Warforged

The warforged were made as the ideal soldiers to serve in the devastating Last War. Although they are constructs, they have much in common with living creatures, including emotions and social bonds, and perhaps even souls.

Warforged traits

There are a few features that all warforged models share.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2.

Age. A warforged is created phisically adult and doesn't age naturally. The species was created only a few decades ago, so their lifespan isn't known yet─if they can even die from natural causes.

Alignment. Warforged tend to be neutral. They were originally created to fight, not to question whether the fight was just. Even though they're perfectly able to forge^H develop independent thought and moral speculation, many choose not to wrestle with ethical ideals.

Size. Warforged are generally broader and heavier than humans, standing between 6 feet and 6 and a half (180-195cm) and weighting as much as 300 pounds (135kg). Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Living Construct. Even though you were constructed, you are a living creature. You are immune to disease. You do not need to eat or breathe, but you can ingest food and drink if you wish. Instead of sleeping, you enter an inactive state for 4 hours each day. You do not dream in this state; you are fully aware of your surroundings and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal.

Warforged Biology. Not being entirely made of living matter, you have advantage on saving throws against poison, and you have resistance against poison damage.

Composite Plating. A warforged's construction incorporates wood and metal and your outer shell offers protection against physical damage. Your base AC becomes 12 + your Dexterity modifier, unless your equipped armour ─or lack thereof─ is better than that.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.

Subrace. Several models of warforged were created to serve for different tasks. Choose one of these subraces.

Steelforged

Steel-class warforged are the bulk of the construct forces that fought in the Last War, designed to fight in the first line of combat.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1.

Integrated Weapon. You are proficient with your unarmed strikes, which deal 1d4 damage on a hit. You may choose the damage type of your unarmed strikes between bludgeoning, piercing or slashing; any weaponsmith can change the damage type at a later time, which would take 1 hour of work and 5gp worth of materials.

Heavy Plating. Your structure is specially reinforced for front-line combat. Your base AC becomes 12 + your Proficiency bonus, unless your equipped armour ─or lack thereof─ is better than that. This trait replaces the Composite Plating trait.

Silverforged

A design specialized for certain support duties, Silver-class warforged are imbued with an innate ability to manipulate magical energies.

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1.

Spellforged. You know one cantrip of your choice that requires a spell attack roll. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Fog Cloud spell once per day as a 2nd-level spell. Once you reach 5th level, you can also cast the Mirror Image spell once per day. Your spellcasting ability for those spells is Intelligence.

Variant subrace: Crystalforged

An experimental model of warforged was designed to be innately imbued with psionic abilities. A Crystal-class warforged is created as a Silverforged above, but replace the Spellforged trait with this:

Psiforged. The psi-crystals embedded in your body grant you innate telekinetic and telepathic abilities. You can cast the mage hand spell, and the hand is invisible. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the catapult spell once per day as a 2nd-level spell. Once you reach 5th level, you can also cast the calm emotions spell once per day. You require no components to use these spells, and your psionic ability for them is Intelligence.

Alternatively, once psionic classes are released, you might want to give them one Discipline and a small amount of PFP to spend only on it.

Tinforged

Designed for scouting and skirmishing duties, Tin-class warforged are small and lightly build─for warforged standards.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.

Size. Some of the smallest Tin-class constructed stand as little as 3 feet 6 tall (105cm) and weighting 60 pounds (27kg), while the largest are built like a slender human ─albeit denser. Choose your size between Small or Medium.

Darkvision. You have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Skill Versatility. You gain proficiency in any one skill of your choice.

Shadowwalker. You can attempt to hide even when you are only lightly obscured by darkness.
