Owlin

Distant kin of giant owls from the Feywild, owlin come in many shapes and sizes, from petite and fluffy to wide-winged and majestic. Owlin have arms and legs like other Humanoids, as well as wings that extend from their back and shoulders.

Like owls, owlin are graced with feathers that make no sound when they move or fly, making it easy for them to sneak up on you in the library.

Your owlin character might be nocturnal. Or perhaps your character is simply prone to rise later, embodying the common nickname of night owl.

Owlin Lineage

The description of this race might suggest various things about the behavior and personality of that people's archetypal adventurers. You break the mould, however. You may ignore those suggestions, whether they're about alignment, moods, or interests. Your character's personality and behavior are entirely yours to determine.

Instead of choosing the previous traits of a stereotypical owlin, you can use the following traits to represent your character's lineage.

Ability Score Increase. One ability score of your choice increases by 2.

Creature Type. You are a humanoid. You resemble a owlin, but you cannot fly even if you have wings.

Size. Owlin stand between 5 to well over 6 feet tall. They have thin, lightweight bodies that weigh between 120 and 180 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Feat. You gain one feat of your choice for which you qualify.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.

Variable Trait. You gain one of the following options of your choice:

  • Skilled. You gain proficiency in one skill of your choice.

Owlin Sourcebooks

This version of the owlin race is official D&D material.
It was taken from Strixhaven: A Cirriculum of Chaos.

The race has been slightly modified due to lack of traits from Strixhaven: A Cirriculum of Chaos. Instead of giving a size option, this version is explicitly Medium—with an accompanying size modifier to determine weight and height. The name options were taken from DND Names.

The Owlin Lineage option was presented in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything. This lineage has had some choices made for you to better reflect an actual owlin. Instead of choosing Small or Medium, you are Small. Instead of choosing 25 or 30 feet speed, your speed is 30 feet.
