Dragonology: A Compendium of Dragon-Type Pokémon

Welcome, Dragon Tamer. Within the contents of this book, you will find the culmination of several decades of studies. Dragons are notoriously one of the most difficult types of Pokémon to train. The goal of this compendium is to empower potential tamers with knowledge not only of how to tame Dragons, but also provide a rich understanding of the Draconic history.

A History of Dragons

Dragons, like all creatures, have evolved so as to best exploit the habitats in which they live. Noble in form and majestic in flight, Dragons have evolved enviable natural abilities. One wonders if mankind, through effort or science, may one day be able to imitate some of them.

Civilizations from regions all over the world have documented studies of their local species of Dragons. From folk tales to fossils, researchers have hypothesized Dragons have existed for a millennia.

While many feared Dragons, some ancient civilizations tamed and used them in battle. The first recorded tribe to attempt such a feat called themselves the Draconids. Though their bloodline has weakened and many of their customs have been lost to time, descendants still exist today.

Dragons As Companions

In modern times, some Dragons have been bred to be smaller and more docile, making them reliable companions.

PART 2 | THE LIFECYCLE OF DRAGONS

The Lifecycle of Dragons

Biology & Physiology

Overview

Most species of Dragons are reptiliant and share many features of this Pokémon type such as egg laying, although they also care for their young. On average, they show a basic understanding of human speech, recognizing short strings of commands. Their affinity for the Draconic Language (see p.30303) allows humans to better communicate with them, but its use in the modern age is almost nonexistent.

Most Dragons have secondary typings that affect their overall biology, but all contain what is called a Draconic Spirit, allowing them access to move pools existing only in the Dragon-type.

The Draconic Spirit

Little is still known about the nuances of the Draconic Spirit. Unlike moves like Water-type or Electric-type, Dragon-type energy is a rare find in the natural world. Studies have shown Dragons have a magical ‘core’ within them that they can tap into to generate special moves, like what we have come to call Dragon Breath, Dragon Tail, etc.

Feeding & Digestion

Digestion is fairly straightforward in Dragons. In general, a Dragon will eat its prey whole when this is practical. If not, the Dragon may rip its food into chunks that are small enough to eat. A Dragon feeds once every few weeks.

Dragons are known to be territorial over their food. They are solitary creatures by nature and have the prowess to hunt on their own and protect their catch. When a brood has hatched, the hierarchy of feeding falls from Mother to Hatchlings to Father. If there is not enough food to go around, the brood will fight amongst themselves and devour the weakest.

Identifying a Dragon

From the smallest Applin to the largest Salamence, Dragon-types tend to share several common denominators useful for identification. Keep in mind that their secondary typing can drastically change their appearance and behavior.

Prominent Features

Most Dragon-types are reptilian in nature. While some are more avian or mammialian than others, all Dragon-types are cold-blooded.

Type Influences

Pure Dragon-Type Pokémon are rare, at only 12 currently documented in existence. The rest share typings across all spectrums. The nature of the secondary typing will affect the diet, temperament, and mating habits of the species.

There is only one documented species of Dragons that has a secondary typing of their own natural weakness: the Baxcalibur line. It is considered one of the most difficult Dragon-types to tame and experts claim it’s because of its conflicted typing.

Lifespan

Widely dependent on the natural habitat and specific species of Dragon, but some are known to be over several centuries old.

Dragon Behaviour

Overview

Unlike most Pokémon, Dragon-types can never be considered domesticated. It is why, when referring to a Dragon-Type specialist, they are colloquially known as Tamers.

Wild Behaviours

Spiral’s Field Guide to Dragon-Watching categorizes each Dragon-Type by their lethality and how to safely observe them in the wild.

Lairs & Hoards

Centuries ago, Dragons were known for amassing great hoards of treasure. Their lairs were carved into the earth with Draconic fire and trespassers were treated as food. Over centuries, the oldest Dragons were hunted to near extinction.

Mating Patterns

Dragon-types observe typical mating patterns akin to other lizardlike and avian species of Pokémon. During mating season, males search out females. The male bites the female on her neck or head and may hold her this way for several days.

Competing Dragon Territories

In areas with dense populations of Dragons, males will scent-mark their territory. Dragon excreta has been shown to contain several different pheromones, from cholesterol and long chain alcohols. These pheromones may even vary between genera. Exposure to these pheromones can elicit aggression in males of some species.

Tamed Behaviours

Tamer Bond

While never truly domesticated, it is possible to earn the loyalty of a Dragon. Tamers claim it is one of the most rewarding parts of their profession. A Dragon loyal-bound to a Tamer will go against its very nature and put itself in harm’s way to protect its master. True loyalty is a rare phenomena and is a double-edged sword. Most Dragons eventually outlive their masters and become inconsolable, and oftentimes destructive, immediately following their Tamer’s death.

Mating Patterns

Tamed Dragons demand a privacy not typically attainable by their Tamers. Complex mating rituals coupled with the need for adequate light, temperature, food, and other envinromental factors can make breeding Dragons in captivity a daunting task.

Raising a Clutch

Egg clutches laid in captivity are statistically smaller than those found in the clutches of wild Dragons’. However, in the care of professionals, the mortality rate among hatched broods is consistently lower.

Dragons age quickly. Most species will emerge with an egg horn. Most breeders follow the general rule of thumb: if the hatchlings’ egg horns begin to fall off, it’s time to separate them.

Even with an overabundance of food, hatchlings will grow increasingly violent towards one another as they grow and territorial instinct begins to take over. Both females and males must be separated and moved to private nests.

After their first moon*, the brood mother and father will leave the hatchlings to their own devices. They will encourage them to leave the nest. As the days go by, their encouragements will turn threatening and they will treat the hatchling as they might any other Dragon encroaching their territory.

On Moons

An out-of-date term still popular among Dragon breeders today. Moon simply means ‘month.’

PART 3 | THE HISTORY OF DRAGONS

Taming

Overview

Taming a Dragon is not for the faint of heart. Before the invention of PokeBalls, taming a Dragon was considered a legendary feat. Modern Dragons, accustomed to living amongst humans, are now easier to tame, but be wary of attempting to capture a fully-evolved species.

The older and more advanced they are, the more difficult it will be to ‘break’ the Dragon’s animalistic nature.

Taming & Breeding Services

Certain families have established their livelihood by maintaining Dragon taming and breeding grounds. Oftentimes, these families will educate, train, and sell Dragons to prospective buyers.

Essential Equipment

Heat-Protective Clothing
Ultra Balls or Luxury Balls
Recommended Field Guides for Ientifying Dragon-Types
Pokedexes have widely taken place of paperback journals
Shiny Lure
Springy Mushroom Cakes
See recipe on pg. 103
Strong Pokémon Partner
Note that Dragon-Types are more likely to become aggressive if they sense Ice, Fairy, or other Dragon-Type Pokémon

Field Procedure

To the experienced eye, it is easy to tell at once when a Dragon’s range has been entered and exactly what Dragon is being encountered.

  • Footprints & tail swishing marks
  • Burned & scorched trees and undergrowth
  • Depletion of local fauna

Concealment is recommended until a sense of trust has been built up with the potential capture. Each species of Dragon should be handled differently; the most important way to arm yourself against a Dragon is with knowledge. Know exactly what you are up against and plan accordingly.

Working With Dragons

An impressive amount of Dragons boast the title of Pseudolegendary. They are regarded as one of the strongest types in our known world.

However, Dragon-types have many applications outside of their combat potential. When trained properly, they can be used to rely on for natural disaster mitigation, search and rescue operations, agricultural assistance, exploration and research, and disaster relief.

The Draconids: Keepers of Wisdom

The Draconids were a sect of people whose very existence was bound to the reverence of Dragon-type Pokémon. These people, often residing in secluded sanctuaries nestled amidst craggy mountains or hidden within primeval forests, assumed the role of caretakers and guardians; the Draconids were known for their deep understanding of Dragon-type Pokémon, drawing from both ancient knowledge and the modern art of Pokémon training.

Draconids exhibited an unbreakable bond with the Dragon-types they cared for, their relationships extending far beyond conventional trainer-Pokémon connections. Their lives were often intertwined with the lives of these majestic creatures, and many Draconids were capable of communing with their Pokémon partners on a profound, almost telepathic level. Such a connection allowed them to harmonize with their Dragon-types and channel their strength with unparalleled synergy.

These rituals have unfortunately been lost to time.

The Origin of Dragon-Types: Myth and Reality

The allure of Dragon-types lies not only in their physical prowess but also in the shroud of mystery surrounding their origins. In ancient texts and fables passed down through generations, it is said that Dragon-type Pokémon possess a connection to primordial forces, embodying the very essence of creation and destruction. Their dual nature of strength and vulnerability reflects the delicate balance of the world itself.

Some Draconid traditions suggest that Dragon-types are celestial beings that once roamed the heavens, descending to the earthly realm to impart their wisdom and power to humanity. This cosmic connection is reflected in their affinity for various elemental forces, allowing them to harness the energy of fire, water, earth, and air.

Guided by ancient teachings, Draconids held ceremonies and rituals to pay homage to Dragon-types and the forces they represent. These rituals ranged from elaborate festivals that celebrated the changing of seasons to solemn ceremonies that honored the spirits of fallen Dragon-types. Through these acts, the Draconids reinforced their connection with the mythical and spiritual aspects of these creatures.

Legacy and Legend

In the eyes of the Pokémon world, Draconids stand as living legends, carrying the legacy of both their ancient traditions and their intimate bonds with Dragon-type Pokémon. Their existence intertwines the realms of myth and reality, offering a glimpse into the profound mysteries that shape the Pokémon universe. As keepers of wisdom and guardians of harmony, the Draconids remind us that the world is more vast, wondrous, and interconnected than we may ever fully comprehend.

6

Bagon

Pure Dragon-Type

Species
The Rock Head Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Aggressive
Abilities
Rock Head, Sheer Force
Lethality Scale

It longs to fly and jumps off cliffs trying to be able to do so. Frustrated at its inability to fly, it leaps off cliffs and smashes its head against large rocks indiscriminately. This process of continually bashing its head causes it to become as hard as steel. Well-developed neck muscles support its hard head. This, combined with its powerful body, allows it to shatter rocks with its head.

Bagon is known to be rather solitary, preferring not to form groups with others of its kind. It has been theorized that Bagon’s habit of head-bashing and pure belief influences the cells needed to help it evolve.

Habitat Rough terrain, usually near the base of cliffs and rocks.

Taming Tips They are non-confrontational. Though it will take some time, the best way to get the better of a Bagon is to tire it out. Its attacks are very predictable and most tamers are skilled enough to dodge out of the way of its head-bashing moves, leaving the Bagon to exhaust itself.

Shelgon

Pure Dragon-Type

Species
The Endurance Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Rock Head, Overcoat
Lethality Scale

Regarded as the pupa stage of its evolution, Shelgon become almost catatonic as they prepare to evolve into their final form. The ‘shell’ around its body is made up entirely of bone, making it as heavy as it is strong.

Habitat Rough terrain. They will hide in caves and gather energy, rarely eating, while preparing to shed their armor for their final evolution.

Taming They are some of the slowest Dragons to exist. Their defense is heightened so much to the point that most will not even recognize they’re being attacked. Poison and leeching moves that can chip away at their endurance are best for capture.

Salamence

Dragon & Flying-Type

Species
The Dragon Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Aggressive
Abilities
Intimidate, Moxie
Lethality Scale

Salamence constantly flies around and releases intense blasts of fire as an expression of its joy. It only stops flying when it gets exhausted and needs to sleep. If enraged, it loses all sense of self and flies into an uncontrollable rampage, destroying everything around it until it tires itself out. It competes with Garchomp midair for food.

Habitat Mountainous regions with vast cave networks. During the mating season, their clutches are lain exclusively at the base of cliffs.

Taming Tips Highly aggressive; approach with caution. After capture, the taming process can take years. They value strength and pride above anything else. Hobbyists are recommended to begin with taming a Bagon or Shelgon, rather than a wild Salamence.

Salamence & The Draconids

Salamence were a hallmark of the Draconids; it was not uncommon for a Salamence partner to pass down several generations in the same bloodline.

7

Dratini

Pure Dragon-Type

Species
The Mirage Pokémon
Diet
Omnivorous
Temperament
Elusive
Abilities
Shed Skin, Marvel Scale
Lethality Scale

Dratini’s life energy is constantly building so it is always growing, and can reach lengths of over six feet. As it grows, it sheds its skin regularly; it hides behind a rapid waterfall during the process to protect itself, since the new skin is soft in texture. The shed skin is coveted for luxury clothing items. Dratini has been referred as the “Mirage Pokémon”, because its existence was originally thought to be nothing more than a myth.

Habitat Near or in bodies of water with a rapid flow, such as the pools at the bottom of waterfalls. It lives a quiet life underwater, eating any food that sinks down to the bottom.

Taming Tips These elusive creatures are difficult to find, but their trust is easy to earn. Take care of making any sudden movements and use highly rewarding treats to encourage sociable behavior.

Dragonair

Pure Dragon-Type

Species
The Divine Pokémon
Diet
Omnivorous
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Shed Skin, Marvel Scale
Lethality Scale

Dragonair emits a gentle aura that gives it a mystical appearance. It can make its wings grow larger in order to fly, but otherwise moves through the air unaided. Research suggests the strength of its Draconic Spirit aids it in flight. Dragonair hosts a large amount of energy within its body, which it can discharge through the crystals on its neck and tail. This causes its body to brighten and give off a different aura that changes the weather in its vicinity. As a result, Dragonair has been referred as a divine Pokémon since ancient times by agricultural peoples.

Habitat Near or in bodies of water with a rapid flow, such as the pools at the bottom of waterfalls. Upon evolving, it surfaces more often and takes a proactive approach to obtaining food.

Taming Tips Though not as skittish as their previous evolution, Dragonair are still known to run away at overtly aggressive behaviours. They’re somewhat haughty and respond positively to praise.

Dragonite

Dragon & Flying-Type

Species
The Sea Dragon Pokémon
Diet
Omnivorous
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Inner Focus, Multi-Scale
Lethality Scale

Despite its bulky build, Dragonite is capable of flying faster than the speed of sound, being able to circle the globe in sixteen hours. A kindhearted Pokémon with human-like intelligence, Dragonite shows signs of altruism: it is said to save humans from drowning and lead lost or foundering ships to safety. However, it will go on an uncontrollable, destructive rampage if its environment is threatened.

Dragonite has been referred to as the “sea guardian” and the “Sea Incarnate”; as such, there are many ships with figureheads decorated with Dragonite’s look. Dragonite’s power is capable of affecting the weather.

Habitat Oftentimes found by the sea, having migrated downstream when still Dragonair. They are known to make their nests in coves or bluffs.

Taming Tips They are curious and highly intelligent and are not so easily swayed to leave whatever territory they’ve made their home. Tamers will have more success in their endeavor if they take time, normally over the course of several months, to foster a bond with the Dragonite and wait for it to initiate a battle for its loyalty.

8

Horsea

Pure Water-Type

Species
The Playful Pokémon
Diet
Insectivorous, Herbivorous
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Swift Swim, Sniper, Damp
Lethality Scale

Highly adept in the water, it uses its dorsal fin to swim in any direction while facing forward. It has a tightly curled tail that it can use as both a balance and an anchor when caught in a strong current. In safer environments, it uses its tail to play with other members of its species.

Habitat Horsea nest in coral reefs and islands throughout oceans with gentle currents. They prefer to stay nearer the surface of the water, as they primarily feed on insects flying above the surface.

Taming Tips Horsea absolutely adore playing. With Seadra around to protect them, they themselves are not very wary of strangers. Befriending them is a surefire way to a successful capture.

They do, however, require a lot of attention and will take extra discipline to push them to learn battle tactics and later, evolve.

Seadra

Pure Water-Type

Species
The Sniper Pokémon
Diet
Insectivorous, herbivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Poison Point, Sniper, Damp
Lethality Scale

Upon evolution, a Seadra’s dorsal fins sharpen into tips that exude venom. Seadra’s venom is toxic enough to induce numbnessx and even fainting in humans, but it is still prized among practitioners of traditional medicine.

Habitat Seadra make their nests by anchoring themselves to branches of coral under the ocean so you’re less likely to find them in open or deep water.

Taming Tips The worst time to attempt to capture a Seadra is during its mating season. It is markedly vicious and will mercilessly attack those who venture near its nest. After a clutch of eggs has been lain, the males’ venom becomes thicker and stronger than usual.

Inherent Draconic Spirit

Researchers have scratched their heads at evolution lines where a Dragon’s predecessors do not share its typing. Studies have shown these Pokémon do in fact have some measure of a Draconic Spirit, but it is dormant.

Kingdra

Water & Dragon-Type

Species
The Piscine Dragon Pokémon
Diet
Insectivorous, herbivorous
Temperament
Aggressive
Abilities
Swift Swim, Sniper, Damp
Lethality Scale

The yawn of a sleeping Kingdra is powerful enough to create undercurrents capable of destroying small ships. Should it decide to emerge from the depths of the ocean, Kingdra’s strength can create large whirlpools and waterspouts on the surface. Because of its immense power, Kingdra often hibernates deep in uninhabited areas of the sea to build up its energy. When a storm arrives, Kingdra is said to awaken and wander about in search of prey. It is known to have fierce battles with Dragonite whenever they meet.

Habitat They’re said to live in waters so deep, other Pokémon cannot live there.

Taming Tips When they surface, they are hungry and they are aggressive. The best time to search for a Kingdra is during a storm…and with plenty of treats on hand to keep them distracted.

Wealth Beyond Measure

Kingdra’s gleaming scales were historically highly coveted and were considered grandeur gifts among royals.

9

Trapinch

Pure Ground-Type

Species
The Ant Pit Pokémon
Diet
Insectivorous
Temperament Docile
Abilities
Hyper Cutter, Arena Trap, Sheer Force
Lethality Scale

Trapinch’s large jaws are powerful enough to crush any boulders that get in its way as it digs through the sand of the arid deserts in which it lives. It can go a week without water. Instead of actively hunting prey, it digs into the sand to build its bowl- or cone-shaped nests, waiting for prey to tumble inside and become trapped. When night falls, Trapinch will dig itself a spot underneath the sand and go to sleep.

Habitat Arid deserts, preferring areas with a high volume of sandstorms.

Taming Tips Trapinch are surprisingly playful creatures. Because of the harsh environment in which they live, untouched by civilization, they are not known to shy away from trainers. They enjoy playing catch with rocks and boulders.

Pitfalls!

Their rating on the lethality scale is largely in part because of the sand pits they dig and their impact on their environment, not because of their aggression.

Vibrava

Ground & Dragon-Type

Species
The Vibration Pokémon
Diet
Insectivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Levitate
Lethality Scale

Vibrava’s wings are not fully developed, so it is unable to fly very far. However, it is able to create vibrations and ultrasonic waves with its wings. Humans get headaches from these waves. After causing their prey to faint, it spits stomach acid to melt its prey before consumption. It continues this eating process every day to help its wings grow.

Habitat Arid deserts, preferring areas with a substantial amount of sunlight. They’re known to preserve their captured prey in the desert’s hot sands.

Taming Tips Vibrava live in large nests under the desert stands. It’s highly recommended to steer clear of any nest and attempt capture against a solitary hunter, rather than confronting a swarm.

Flygon

Ground & Dragon-Type

Species
The Mystic Pokémon (The Desert Spirit)
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Levitate
Lethality Scale

Though its primary typing is Ground rather than Bug, its physiology still shares incredible similarities with the latter. Stridulatory sounds are often produced by the Pokémon as it runs a scraper across a complex of ridges within the cavities of its wings. Its wings then make a ‘singing’ sound when they are flapped, earning Flygon the name The Desert Spirit. It uses this unique ability to attract prey, stranding them before it attacks.

Habitat Arid deserts. They will sometimes share their territory with Krookodile.

Taming Tips Traps are the most effective way of dealing with a Flygon. Their mastery over earth and sand makes them formidable opponents in their own territory. Watch out, though! Flygon are known to hunt with Krookodile.

10

Swablu

Normal & Flying-Type

Species
The Cotton Bird Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Natural Cure, Cloud Nine
Lethality Scale

Swablu does not like dirty surroundings so it cleans things with its connony wings diligently. It uses streams and freshwater springs to wash its wings when they become dirty from polishing. Friendly and largely unafraid of humans, swablu tend to frequent cities and will frequently perch on people’s heads. It can easily camouflage in clouds thanks to its appearance, protecting it when in more hostile territories.

Habitat Commonly found living in flocks in forested habitats, but often flies closer to towns during the spring.

Taming Tips Birdbaths can attract Swablu to your area. Always make sure the water is exceptionally clean and leave out plenty of fruits and berries to entice frequent visitors.

Altaria

Dragon & Flying-Type

Species
The Humming Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Natural Cure, Cloud Nine
Lethality Scale

Altaria uses its wings to catch updrafts and soar across the sky in a calm and graceful manner. It gracefully glides through the clouds, often while singing or humming in a soprano voice. Its voice seems to have special properties that induce a dreamy state for listeners. Altaria can be very affectionate, enveloping people it has bonded with in its cotton-like wings. While normally kind, Altaria can attack foes with shrill cries without mercy if provoked.

Habitat Often found living in forests, though it also inhabits mountain ranges. It is less likely to live in densely populated cities, due to its size.

Taming Tips It still retains its pride over its downy white wings. Moves that can dirty them - Mud Slap, Venoshock, Smokescreen, etc. - can divide the Altaria’s attention long enough to capture it.

Notable Navigators

Researches have discovered that Altaria uses geomagnetic fields to navigate their flight, and any disturbances can affect their sense of direction.

11

Jangmo-o

Pure Dragon-Type

Species
The Scaled Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Bulletproof, Soundproof, Overcoat
Lethality Scale

While Jangmo-o trains diligently and remains humble, it has the pride of a warrior. It employs the scale on its forehead for both attack and defense, so it never shows its back to its foe. Many Trainers take this behavior as proof of this Pokémon’s valiant nature. Jangmo-o lives and trains with others of its kind in harsh areas that are far away from other Pokémon and people. The scales on its body make a metallic sound when struck and are used to express emotion, communicate with others of its kind, and intimidate opponents.

Habitat Harsh environments, far away from other Pokémon and people. It is difficult to find in the wild.

Taming Tips The most straightforward way to catching one is to initiate a fight with it. Overcoming it in battle will earn its respect, though the first few months of taming require patience. It’s recommended to catch Jangmo-o in pairs to reduce environmental shock.

Hakamo-o

Dragon & Fighting-Type

Species
The Plated Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Aggressive
Abilities
Bulletproof, Soundproof, Overcoat
Lethality Scale

This Pokémon leaves its fellows to begin training on its own and can be found wherever there are opponents for it to fight. When it finds an opponent, it dances and clangs its scales together to show its strength. This ferocious dance finishes with a challenging war cry. Because its scales serve as armor, it overwhelms its opponent with attacks without worrying about its own defense. This battle style causes many of its scales are torn off or broken. Hakamo-o considers its broken armor and bare arms as proof of a well-fought battle and wears them with pride. However, the scale begins growing back immediately and harder and sharper than before.

Habitat Rocky terrain near well-traveled pathways.

Taming Tips A Hakamo-o will fight until it’s unconscious. Prepare for a long, arduous battle. Alternatively, employ stealthy tactics or make use of moves like Leech Seed and Toxic.

Fighting Finery

Its scale conduct heat well, so shed ones are often molded into durable pots and pans.

Kommo-o

Dragon & Fighting-Type

Species
The Armored Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Bulletproof, Soundproof, Overcoat
Lethality Scale

Kommo-o, having completed its harsh training, returns to its birthplace to protect Jangmo-o. However, it only watches over them from a distance. The power of this Pokémon’s uppercut is enough to send foes flying, so simply raising its arms can generate enough force to change its surroundings. According to legend, Kommo-o’s glittering scales are meant to drive away a great darkness. The reason it seeks strong opponents is also said to be a quest for power to defeat the darkness.

Its scales function as both offensive weapons and defensive shields. Because it does not wish to fight weak foes, it clangs its scales together when it senses someone approaching. Weak or cowardly opponents will panic at this sound and flee immediately.

Habitat Harsh environments, far away from other Pokémon and people. It is difficult to find in the wild. Wherever a group of Jangmo-o are, a Kommo-o is always nearby.

Taming Tips Kommo-o will fight tooth and nail to protect a Jangmo-o in trouble. Many trainers have attempted to catch the first stage of its evolution and accidentally ended up in combat with one of these beasts instead!

12

Tyrunt

Rock & Dragon-Type

Species
The Royal Heir Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Aggressive
Abilities
Strong Jaw, Sturdy
Lethality Scale

Tyrunt has a selfish, spoiled nature. If it encounters something it dislikes, it will throw a violent tantrum and run wild. Its strong jaws have enough force to shred an automobile, and it tends to unknowingly inflict injuries while playing, even on its Trainer. This Pokémon lived 100 million years ago; theories suggest it might have had a different form then.

Habitat It is considered an invasive species wherever it is. Though there are many of it in existence now, it has only recently been resurrected. It tends to thrive in areas with flat plains.

Taming Tips It’s always best to approach a Tyrunt with caution. Its wild tantrums are devastating and if not handled properly, can cause massive damage. More docile Tyrunt are typically available from breeders.

Tyrantrum

Rock & Dragon-Type

Species
The Despot Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Aggressive
Abilities
Strong Jaw, Rock Head
Lethality Scale

Tyrantrum is known to be vicious but has the presence of a magnificent king. It has powerful jaws, capable of shredding thick metal plates as easily as paper. Its strength allows it to sleep in the wild entirely unguarded without feeling worried. It is theorized that its original form was completely covered with a feather-like coat.

Habitat It thrives in areas with flat plains and tends to stay away from industrialized cities.

Taming Tips Considered the king of the ancient world and once thought invincible, this Dragon is not easily tamed. Hobbyists are recommended to steer clear of this Pokémon. However, taming is possible with a companion that can hold its own in a battle against it.

13

Axew

Pure Dragon-Type

Species
The Tusk Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Rivalry, Mold Breaker, Unnerve
Lethality Scale

Its tusks can regenerate if broken and will regrew if they fall out. This repeated regrowth strengthens them. Its tusks serve numerous purposes, such as making territorial gashes in trees and boulders, engaging in play, or crushing berries for eating. Surprisingly, Axew is skilled at climbing walls and trees, though it lives in nests made in the ground.

Habitat Lush forests near a river, nested in an easily recognizable clearing, as its mother and father would have cleaved tree trunks to settle down.

Taming Tips Though territorial, it is extremely food motivated. Berries it isn’t normally able to eat are tantalizing treats that can lure it away from its clutch and matriarch.

Fraxure

Pure Dragon-Type

Species
The Axe Jaw Pokémon
Diet
Omnivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Rivalry, Mold Breaker, Unnerve
Lethality Scale

Fraxure is very violent and territorial. Fights over turf often break out between it and another Fraxure. After a fight, it sharpens its tusks on river rocks, as they do not regenerate. Fraxure engages in violent confrontations with Bisharp for the locations of sharping stones. Fraxure uses its tusks only when necessary. The reason is once its tusks break, Fraxure will be unable to use it again. Fraxure uses its tusks to cut the prey in two different food portions, one for eating now and the second portion for later.

Habitat Lush forests near a river. Upon evolution, it will have left its egg-nest and gone off on its own to hunt prey and establish its territory.

Taming Tips Its stockier body and reliance on its riverbed habitat make it susceptible to aerial attacks. Pacifist forms of taming are not recommended.

Haxorus

Pure Dragon-Type

Species
The Axeblade Pokémon
Diet
Omnivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Rivalry, Molder Breaker, Unnerve
Lethality Scale

Haxorus takes great pride and joy in its prized, unbreakable tusks, which are used on its enemies and can cut through steel beams with ease. Despite its austere appearance, it is generally friendly. However, Haxorus is known to be very territorial, and it will react violently should anyone touch its tusks. Alongside its diet of berries and meat, it must eat minerals in the dirt to keep its tusks sharp.

Habitat Lush forests, though only during mating season. Haxorus is more commonly known to reside in caves and abandoned mines alongside riverbanks.

Taming Tips Tactics employed to capture Fraxure are applicable with Haxorus as well, though be warned - female Haxorus are more likely to fall prey to a devastating Outrage if it feels its young is threatened.

Lethality Scale

Found in the deep reaches of the underground, Deino has lost the need for eyesight. Though it lacks sight, its other senses are heightened. Deino primarily communicate with an elaborate combination of chirps, the clicking of its jaw, and the grating of its small talons on cave walls. It has an incredible memory and can remember scents and smells for years.

Habitat Rarely seen in the wild as hatchlings, as wild Hydreigon and Zweilous will lay their clutches in deep cave systems. It feasts primarily on cave mushrooms.

Taming Tips It has the vigor and energy to bite constantly, making it dangerous to approach without taking precautions. It often doesn’t come in contact with humans so it typically reacts with cautious curiousity.

Zweilous

Dark & Dragon-Type

Species
The Hostile Pokémon
Diet
Omnivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Hustle
Lethality Scale

It retains the vigor of its previous evolution. One head becomes two and more often than not, they are hostile to one another. Its disposition makes it nearly impossible for Zweilous to live in groups so it is considered a nomadic Pokémon, migrating once it has eaten all the prey in an area. Generally, its migrations will lead it further to the surface of its birth-cave.

Habitat The Zweilous found on the surface is usually battle-scarred from warring with itself. Closer to an abundance of different types of fauna, its heads begin to work together against a ‘common enemy’ and it becomes territorial of its immediate surroundings.

Taming Tips Splitting the attention of its heads is a surefire way to escape a scrap with any angry Zweilous, but despite its species name - The Hostile Pokémon - it is really only hostile to itself.

Hydreigon

Dark & Dragon-Type

Species
The Brutal Pokémon
Diet
Omnivorous
Temperament
Aggressive
Abilities
Levitate
Lethality Scale

It is one of the most intelligent species of Pokémon ever documented, rivaling even some Psychic-Types. Despite its three heads, it is a singular entity; its secondary heads lack brains and do not move or think of their own accord. However, it is an incredibly violent and destructive Pokémon, attacking anything that moves. It is more likely to evolve after living on the surface for some time, regaining its sight in its final, strongest form.

Habitat Dwellings are often found in caves or tunnel systems close to the surface. Being an apex predator, evidence of a Hydreigon can be found by a lack of other predators in the area.

Taming Tips Caution is advised when dealing with Hydreigon, as no matter the approach, it is prone to violence. It’s recommended to battle it during the day, as it still retains its heightened senses of smell and sound from its previous evolutions.

From its large ears, it is capable of emitting any kind of wavelength of sound, including ultrasonic waves of up to 200,000 Hertz. It uses these waves to stun large creatures, communicate with other Noibat, and immobilize prey. It also uses ultrasonic waves to perceive its surroundings, allowing it to fly in the dark. It is very fond of fruits, and uses its sonar to detect its ripeness. It tends to mistake Applin for its food.

Habitat It is often found in pitch black caves near the surface, resting during the day and becoming active at night.

Taming Tips Fruits and nectar will attract any hungry Noibat. Its love for sugary treats oftentimes outweighs its skittishness around humans and are a sure way to easily bond with a potential capture.

Species
The Echolocation Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous
Temperament
Aggressive
Abilities
Frisk, Infiltrator, Telepathy
Lethality Scale

From its ears, Noivern can produce ultrasonic waves strong enough to shatter large boulders. Though it has eyes, it relies heavily on echolocation when navigating the dark. Noivern is also known to be cruel, ruthlessly tormenting enemies that cannot see well at night before using its ultrasonic waves and fangs to finish them off. However, Noivern becomes timid when exposed to the light.

Habitat It nests in colonies, ranging anywhere from 10 - 100 Noibat & Noivern strong. It resides in the dark reaches of caves, coming out only during the day.

Taming Tips Noivern is known for its violent temper, but becomes tame if approached with its favorite ripe fruits. Timing is important when attempting to tame a Noivern, as it becomes skittish at the first sign of dawn.

Skrelp is a poor swimmer, and gets easily washed away by storms. Skrelp rides seaweed as a form of traveling the ocean. It camouflages itself as the seaweed to hide from enemies while storing power for evolution. It also uses this technique to hide from prey, which it sprays with liquid poison when approached. However, its main source of food is rotten seaweed, which it uses to create its poison. Skrelp is known to coexist well with Dhelmise.

Habitat It is largely found in coves and in areas with a lack of strong currents.

Taming Tips Maintaining distance is important when attempt to tame a Skrelp. It’s a master of camouflage and its immediate surroundings can be harmful to humans and non-Poison-Type Pokémon.

Dragalge

Species
The Kelp Dragon Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous
Temperament

Abilities
Poison Point, Poison Touch, Adaptability
Lethality Scale

Dragalge is a territorial Pokémon that will spit poison at whatever trespasses on its territory. Its poison is strong enough to melt the hulls of metal tankers. As a result, it is said that ships sailing through the seas where it lives never return. It hunts by hiding itself in seaweed and then ambushing prey, such as Finizen, with a spray of poisonous liquid. However, it is known to coexist well with Dhelmise. Dragalge can create Draconic energy by absorbing the sunlight through the plume on its head.

Habitat With more defensive measures at its behest, it ventures out into deeper waters, unaffected by stronger currents. it still makes its home in waters where sunlight penetrates the surface.

Taming Tips Because it ambushes its prey, it’s best to wait for an unfortunate wild Pokémon to cross its path first and then ambush the Dragalge yourself!

Goomy

Pure Dragon-Type

Species
The Gooey Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous
Temperament
Elusive
Abilities
Sap Sipper, Hydration, Gooey
Lethality Scale

Goomy is considered the weakest Dragon-type Pokémon. Its body is mostly water and is covered by a germ-laden mucous membrane. This slimy layer causes physical attacks to slide off harmlessly. However, it becomes unable to breathe and will die if its body dries out. Because of this, it stays in damp, shady areas. Goomy’s horns have powerful sensors that allow it to locate any sign of the enemy, allowing it to survive any kind of danger.

Habitat A rare Pokémon found almost exclusively in rainy, humid climates.

Taming Tips Goomy are more difficult to find than it is to catch, given how weak it is. Start a hunt in the early hours of the morning, before the sun has risen, with your best chance of finding one right after a heavy rainfall.

Sliggoo

Pure Dragon-Type

Species
The Slime Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Sap Sipper, Hydration, Gooey
Lethality Scale

Sliggoo excretes and coats its body with sticky mucus that can dissolve anything. Because it lacks teeth, it sprays this liquid onto prey and slurps them up once they are dissolved. Since its slime can melt through anything, predators stay far away from it. Its eyes have devolved, causing it to go blind. This makes it difficult for it to tell allies from prey and it will sometimes attempt to melt its companions. Its four horns act as a radar system and are used to detect sounds and smells. Sliggoo only cares about food and will flee from its enemies whenever possible.

Habitat While its membrane has strengthened after evolution, it stil needs to remain in damp, humid areas.

Taming Tips Caution is advised when dealing with a Sliggoo. While docile, it can attack if provoked and its mucus is extremely dangerous. Special attacks with range are recommended to knock the Sliggoo out before a capture attempt.

Goodra

Pure Dragon-Type

Species
The Ooze Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Sap Sipper, Hydration, Gooey
Lethality Scale

Goodra is very friendly. When it grows close to someone, it will hug them and leave them coated in slime, which might sound frightening! But at the final stage of its evolution, its membrane’s pH has shifted to become a base rather than an acid.

It often appears dazed and bewildered and can struggle to understand instructions. However, it can become uncontrollable once enraged. Its horns are known to hit 100 times harder than the blow of a heavyweight boxer and it is capable of throwing punches with incredible force. Its slimy coating in combination with a layer of fat causes attacks to slide off.

Habitat Goodra lives in plains and mountains, usually during rainy days.

Taming Tips Friendship tames are recommended with Goodra. Its defense and endurance are surprisingly high and if it becomes too enraged, its attacks can become devastating. Coaxing it with sweets and a few spritzes from a water bottle can make fast friends.

Dreepy

Dragon & Ghost-Type

Species
The Lingering Pokémon
Diet
Energy
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Clear Body, Infiltrator, Cursed Body
Lethality Scale

Dreepy are the reborn ghosts of a prehistoric species that once lived in ancient seas. They tend to wander the locations they inhabited while alive. Dreepy are exceptionally weak in combat: children could defeat them. However, they have the potential to become much stronger and evolve if they have the right tools to help them train. In the evening, groups of Dreepy fly at high speeds across the seas, messing with other Pokémon underwater for fun.

Dreepy can often be seen fighting alongside their evolutionary relatives Drakloak and Dragapult. The former takes care of Dreepy until it evolves, while the latter is known to launch Dreepy at Mach speeds, which the Dreepy enjoy.

Habitat Seaside coves, especially nearby to ancient ruins.

Taming Tips Dreepy respond much better to patience and care than it does tough love. It also likes to be trained in groups.

Drakloak

Ghost & Dragon-Type

Species
The Caretaker Pokémon
Diet
Energy
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Clear Body, Infiltrator, Cursed Body
Lethality Scale

Drakloak is capable of flying at speeds greater than 120 mph. It carries a Dreepy on its head, which it takes care of and fights alongside until the Dreepy manages to evolve. If it lacks a Dreepy to care for, it will become uneasy and desperately try to find any Pokémon to serve as a substitute to take care of. Drakloak attacks by firing energy blasts from its lungs. If it is defeated in battle, its Dreepy will wander off.

Habitat Seaside coves, especially nearby to ancient ruins. It is almost always accompanied by a Dreepy.

Taming Tips Training a Drakloak’s Dreepy is actually the most effective way to push the Drakloak itself to new heights. Tamers should remain attentive during battle to ensure the Drakloak’s loss isn’t enough to make its Dreepy abandon it.

Dragapult

Ghost & Dragon-Type

Species
The Stealth Pokémon
Diet
Energy
Temperament
Elusive
Abilities
Clear Body, Infiltrator, Cursed Body
Lethality Scale

Dragapult carries a pair of bonded Dreepy inside its horns, which it will fire at its opponents like supersonic missiles during battle. By focusing its mind, Dragapult can also turn itself, as well as the Dreepy inside its horns, invisible. Much of this Dragon’s behavior remains a mystery, as it is one of the most elusive and skittish Dragons.

Habitat It lives nomadically, but gravitates towards ancient ruins.

Taming Tips It is extremely protective of its Dreepy and the pair that lives in its horns are bonded to it.

19

Druddigon

Pure Dragon-Type

Species
The Cave Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Aggressive
Abilities
Rough Skin, Sheer Force, Mold Breaker
Lethality Scale

Druddigon warms its body by taking in sunlight with its wings; if its body temperature becomes too low, it immobilizes. It is known to be vicious and cunning with savage physical strength. Instead of making its own nest, it lives in caves and tunnels dug out by other Pokémon, such as Diglett, Dugtrio, Onix, and Excadrill.

Habitat It lives primarily in caves and tunnels dug out by other Pokémon, such as Diglett, Onix, and Excadrill, however most of its day is spent out in the sun.

Taming Tips Ice-type Pokémon are a no-brainer for this Dragon, as the genetic makeup of its scales and flesh are extremely susceptible to cold temperatures.

Drampa

Normal & Dragon-Type

Species
The Placid Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Berserker, Sap Sipper, Cloud Nine

Lethality Scale

It loves communicating with people and Pokémon, and is especially gentle with children. It will often appear in areas where children gather and play with them. Despite its gentle nature, it becomes enraged if a child it cares for is hurt, and can go as far as to burn the bully’s house down if able. Despite its appearance, it is capable of flight.

Habitat Drampa lives alone in the mountains 10,000 feet above sea level. The berries it feeds on do not grow at this altitude, so it descends to the base of the mountains daily at dawn.

Taming Tips Friendship tames are the way to this Dragon’s heart. It does well in households with young children and is suited to a more civilian lifestyle than a competitive trainer’s.

Cyclizar

Dragon & Normal-Type

Species
The Mount Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Shed Skin, Regenerator
Lethality Scale

Cyclizar has a mild temperament. It has been kept by humans and used for transport since ancient times, with depictions of this behavior found in murals dating back 10,000 years ago. This relationship appears to be mutualistic since the warmth of Cyclizar’s rider helps it avoid getting cold. When carrying a human, Cyclizar can reach a speed of over 70 mph. Cyclizar maintains its balance and absorbs shock while running by using its hard head and thick tail. Cyclizar is strong enough to carry luggage and equipment used by humans.

Cyclizar has been seen equipped with metal seats and headlights, allowing humans to ride Cyclizar more easily and navigate. In other cases, it has been seen equipped with new augmentations such as jet seats, allowing it to move faster than ever before. This practice, however, is frowned upon by most Dragon Tamers.

Habitat Though it’s an ancient species of Dragon, its look and temperament has changed with the times. It is one of the most docile species of Dragon and is rarely found in the wild.

Taming Tips Cyclizar are avabilable mostly from breeders. Those not raised in captivity are often found as strays in bustling cities.

Frigibax

Dragon & Ice-Type

Species
The Ice Fin Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Thermal Exchange, Ice Body
Lethality Scale

Frigibax has a triangular dorsal fin located atop a large, whitish circular pattern on its back. This fin absorbs heat, which Frigibax converts into ice energy. Frigibax stores the ice energy inside its body and uses it to cool its dwelling. It stores more ice energy the greater its surrounding temperatures are.

Frigibax and its evolutions are the only known Pokémon that can have Thermal Exchange as an Ability.

Habitat Frigibax lives in arctic forests and rough terrains and views for territory against its natural predator: Bergmite.

Taming Tips Its Thermal Exchange ability is not to be taken lightly. Frigibax is a hardy Dragon and too many Fire-type attacks to the face can bulk this Pokémon up enough to spell trouble for even some of the most seasoned Dragon tamers.

Arctibax

Dragon & Ice-Type

Species
The Frigid Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Thermal Exchange, Ice Body
Lethality Scale

Arctibax is capable of freezing its surrounding air, forming an ice mask over its mouth and eyes to protect itself against combatants and its dangerous environment. When threatened, it encases its dorsal fin in sharp ice spikes, forming a blade of ice. Arctibax has strong back and leg muscles, which allow it to do a front flip while airborne and attack opponents with its dorsal fin.

Habitat It carves nests in deep snow mounds in the arctic forests in which it lives; nests can sometimes contain upwards of 10 Arctibax and Frigibax.

Taming Tips Arctibax is in its most agile form at its middle evolution, making it a formidable and deadly acrobatic foe. Pokémon that can keep up with its speed and agility are highly recommended, while still keeping in mind its bolstering ability.

Baxcalibur

Ice & Dragon-Type

Species
The Cryogenic Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Thermal Exchange, Ice Body
Lethality Scale

When in battle, Baxcalibur flips upside-down, using its spine as an axe while supporting itself with its head and forelimbs. It also spews out cryogenic air from its mouth, which is cold enough to freeze lava. To finish opponents off, it launches towards them with the blade on its back.

Habitat It roams frozen forests in search of worthy combatants in order to keep its muscle mass high enough to sustain the bulky axe on its back.

Taming Tips Unlike Arctibax, Baxcalibur is not very limber. It makes up for its loss of mobility with its cryogenic mouth, but quick adversaries can handedly take this cold Dragon down.

Hot n’ Cold Engines

Arctibax and its evolutionary relatives are the only known Pokémon that can have Thermal Exchange as an Ability. Baxcalibur is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Glaive Rush.

21

Gible

Dragon & Ground-Type

Species
The Ground Shark Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Aggressive
Abilities
Sand Veil, Rough Skin
Lethality Scale

Gible is an excellent digger, making deep holes for homes in caverns warmed by geothermal heat. This heated environment allows Gible to survive even in harsh, wintery climates. It’s a social Dragon and nests in large families.

Iron Teeth

Gible has tremendously strong jaws and uses them to capture and drag its prey back to its nest; it’s also capable of eating through most types of metal.

Habitat Gible is typically sighted in rocky areas, such as mountains. While it prefers warmer, arid climates, larger clans of Gible can survive in even the coldest parts of the world.

Taming Tips A Gible’s jaw is incredibly strong, but it’s notably clumsy. A careful, methodical combat approach is recommended.

Gabite

Dragon & Ground-Type

Species
The Cave Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Aggressive
Abilities
Sand Veil, Rough Skin
Lethality Scale

Gabite is a fierce and predatory Pokémon. It has filled in its teeth, so to speak, and is known to move at extreme speeds. The protrusions on Gabite’s head allows it to emit ultrasound waves, which can be used for navigating through pitch-dark caves.

It is also an extreme hoarder. Even though its scales are incredibly valuable, poaching has never been an issue; more often than not, the collected hoard of a Gabite is worth more than its hide.

Habitat It is found in areas rich with minerals and deep caves near gem deposits.

Taming Tips Incredibly territorial, fast, and vicious, Gabite must be approached with extreme caution. When searching for Gabite nests, tamers will always want to keep some sort of precious stone on their person and use them for distractions if absolutely necessary.

Medicinal Molts

Its scales are believed to have medicinal properties and the ability to heal most illnesses, even those thought to be incurable.

Garchomp

Dragon & Ground-Type

Species
The Mach Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Aggressive
Abilities
Sand Veil, Rough Skin
Lethality Scale

Garchomp can fly at incredible speeds; some have been documented flying as fast as a jet. It is able to move in both the air and underground due to its fine scales. It preys primarily on bird Pokémon and is known to eat entire flocks of them whole. For more elusive prey or when hunting underground, it uses its protuberances as sensors.

Habitat Garchomp lives in mountainous regions, both volcanic and boreal, and typically dwells underground. However, it is seldom sighted in the wild.

Taming Tips Novice tamers should not engage with wild Garchomp. Veteran tamers will arm themselves with type-advantage Pokémon and will typically fight in obstacle-ridden terrain. Garchomp’s flight pattern is linear and it has little control or maneuverability when airborne.

Mega Garchomp

When Garchomp Mega Evolves, several of its features become more angular, including its head and shoulders. A row of five tooth-like spikes sprouts from each side of its abdomen and red spikes grow from its knees. The claws and fins on its arms melt from the excessive Mega Evolution energy and morph together to form sharp, red blades. Because Garchomp takes great pride in its winglike fins, it is enraged at the sight of them melting into scythes. Its scythes can slice the ground to pieces, and Mega Garchomp viciously tears up its opponents with them.

Applin

Grass & Dragon-Type

Species
The Apple Core Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous
Temperament
Elusive
Abilities
Ripen, Gluttony, Bulletproof
Lethality Scale

Applin is both the lightest and shortest Dragon-type Pokémon, and also one of the shortest Grass-type Pokémon. As soon as it is born, it burrows into an apple that looks like a Leppa Berry, which serves as a home, food source, and protection against preying bird Pokémon. The apple is prevented from rotting thanks to Applin’s body fluid, which also strengthens the fruit’s rind. The flavor of the apple determines which evolution Applin will evolve into. If Applin runs out of apples to eat or if it is separated from its apple, its body will lose moisture, and it will become dehydrated and weak.

Habitat To no surprise, it lives in verdant areas that have an abundance of fruits. Some Applin spend their entire lives in the orchards they hatch in, taking advantage of the natural camouflage of its birth tree.

Taming Tips The most difficult part about taming an Applin is finding one. It has mastered the art of blending in with its surroundings, using its environment to its advantage.

Flapple

Grass & Dragon-Type

Species
The Apple Wing Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Ripen, Gluttony, Hustle
Lethality Scale

Flapple’s cheeks store acid strong enough to induce chemical burns and corrode metal. It can attack by spitting this acid at its targets. It is also able to disguise itself as an apple by folding its wings. Flapple repairs the apple on its body by using its body fluid. Flapple with clay-colored apples are generally stronger than its peers, and have won many battles.

Flapple is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Grav Apple.

Habitat Its wings allow it to explore further than the orchard it’s birthed in, but Flapple still tend to nest in territories close to its orchard.

Taming Tips Tracking down Flapple is easier than searching for Applin. Though it’s small, its nesting trees will have unique marks on them due to the Flapple’s natural acidity.

That’s a Lot of Flappletuns!

Gigantamax Flapple produces huge amounts of sweet nectar, which overflows from the top of its apple. The nectar’s intense aroma pours out when it stretches its neck, and this aroma is so sweet it can cause other Pokémon to faint. Gigantamax Flapple is the only known Pokémon capable of using the G-Max Move G-Max Tartness.

Appletun

Grass & Dragon-Type

Species
The Apple Nectar Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous & Insectivorous
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Ripen, Gluttony, Thick Fat
Lethality Scale

Appletun’s body is caked in sweet nectar, whose smell attracts Bug-type Pokémon which Appletun preys on. However, Appletun’s primary diet is sweet apples. In order to ward off other Pokémon such as Lechonk from licking the nectar on its back, Appletun can spew a sticky nectar. The skin on its back is said to be tasty, and children used to eat it as a snack.

Appletun is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Apple Acid.

Habitat It evolves into an Appletun to protect the Applin and Flapple in its orchard. It is usually the sole protector of an orchard and works with a flock of Flapple to protect its home. It’s also a prized ‘livestock’ Pokémon to apple farmers.

Taming Tips Removing an Appletun from a wild orchard can put the entire Applin and Flapple ecosystem at risk. Tamers are advised to search for Applin and evolve it into an Appletun instead.

Dipplin

Grass & Dragon-Type

Species
The Candy Apple Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous & Insectivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Supersweet Syrup, Gluttony, Sticky Hold
Lethality Scale

Dipplin evolves from Applin when exposed to a Syrupy Apple. This dragon is actually a pair of wyrms that work together inside their shared apple. They are capable of producing syrup, which they use to coat their apple in layers. This syrup has a fragrant scent that captivates Dipplin’s opponents. They can use the syrup to engulf their opponents and hinder them.

Dipplin and its evolved form, Hydrapple, are the only known Pokemon capable of learning the move Syrup Bomb and the only known Pokemon that can have Supersweet Syrup as an ability.

Habitat If the ecosystem in which they live has an overabundance of Applin, far outweighing the apples accessible for offspring, Applin will begin to evolve into Dipplin, sharing space in syrupy apples, rather than become Appletun or Flapple.

Taming Tips Its syrup is incredibly sticky; wearing protective gloves and/or easily shed clothing is a must when attempting to tame these Dragons.

Hydrapple

Grass & Dragon-Type

Species
The Apple Hydra Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous & Insectivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Supersweet Syrup, Regenerator, Sticky Hold
Lethality Scale

Hydrapple is a Pokémon composed of seven symbiotic partners known as “syrpents” living within an apple made of red syrup. The syrpents that form Hydrapple have inconstant temperaments. On the rare occasion that the syrpents’ moods align, Hydrapple reaches its full potential.

Habitat It is usually found roaming the areas nearest its original orchard. Most of the time, the temperaments of its syrpents make it too destructive and it’s chased off by the orchard’s resident Appletun protector.

Taming Tips Employ similar taming methods to that of the Hydreigon. Distracting multiple heads at once can cause infighting and make combat & capture easier.

Duraludon

Steel & Dragon-Type

Species
The Alloy Pokémon
Diet
Mineralvore
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Light Metal, Heavy Metal, Stalwart
Lethality Scale

Duraludon’s body is made of strong, polished metal. The alloy it’s made of is surprisingly light and allows it to move quickly. Steel-Type moves use up energy from Duraludon’s own body and, in exchange, release vast amounts of power. However, its body can easily rust, so it lives in caves and mountainous areas and avoids rain. It uses its arms to grind down rock surfaces for food.

Habitat In the wild, it lives in dry areas, but is most often found in cityscapes and is widely domesticated.

Taming Tips While it is technically resistant to Water-Type moves, Duraludon is deathly afraid of rusting. It will lose its will to battle in the face of a powerful Water-Type opponent.

Archaludon

Steel & Dragon-Type

Species
The Bridge Pokémon
Diet
Mineralvore
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Stamina, Sturdy, Stalwart
Lethality Scale

When Archaludon faces danger, it will get down on all fours, straighten its body, retract its limbs, and fully extend the spires on its hands and feet, forming a shape that resembles a steel bridge. This position allows for less mobility but offers Archaludon a sturdier center of gravity. In this position, Archaludon is capable of using the static electricity stored in its terminals to fire a tremendously powerful beam of electric energy.

When Archaludon charges up to fire this beam, electrical energy connects the terminals on its head, tail, and limbs, in a similar fashion to bridge suspension cables. During storms and other inclement weather, Archaludon’s terminals can gather static electricity more easily, allowing it to fire off its beam much faster. Archaludon’s defensive capabilities are so strong that it cannot be fazed by a cave-in. Archaludon often digs holes in the mountains while searching for food.

Habitat In the wild, it lives in dry areas, but is most often found in cityscapes and is widely domesticated.

Taming Tips It is largely domesticated and rarely seen in the wild, but it tends to be more active in stormy weather. Proper gear and training makes taming this Dragon a breeze.

Genetic Peculiarities

Most Dragon-Type Pokémon lineages are date back to prehistoric eras, but there is little record of any ancestors preadating Duraludon & its evolution, Archaludon.

Some conspiracy theorists believe the Pokémon was created in a lab, with many of them criticizing its genetic fallacies, human-inspired design, and short lifespan when in the wild.

Regardless, the Steel beast is still an incredible asset to any professional Dragon Tamer’s team, given its anti-Fairy typing.

Tatsugiri

Dragon & Water-Type

Species
The Mimicry Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Commander, Storm Drain
Lethality Scale

Although relatively weak, Tatsugiri is one of the most intelligent dragon Pokémon. It baits prey such as bird Pokémon by playing dead. When its prey approaches, Tatsugiri then commands its partner to attack. Most often Tatsugiri are found in warmer waters with Dodonzo as their partners, but any symbiotic bond they can form with a Pokémon larger than themselves will make due.

Habitat This Pokémon resides in warm, shallow waters and can often be found ‘beached’ ashore.

Taming Tips Though not formidable on their own, always anticipate a double battle when coming upon a Tatsugiri. Odds are the companions they command are not far off.

I Thought I Ordered The Nigiri

Tatsugiri isn’t known as the Mimicry Pokémon for nothing! It comes in three different forms: Curly, Droopy, and Stretchy. It camouflages itself by inflating its throat sac, resembling sushi!

Turtonator

Fire & Dragon-Type

Species
The Blast Turtle Pokémon
Diet
Carnivorous
Temperament
Territorial
Abilities
Shell Armor
Lethality Scale

In addition to hunting, Turtonator also feeds on sulfur and other volcanic materials. This diet rich in explosive material has contributed to a layer of explosive material in its shell. When prey steps onto its shell, it strikes itself with its own tail to cause an explosion. The explosion is ignited by sparks from the spikes on its shell and released through the hole on its chest. This orifice also acts as Turtonator’s weak point. Its explosive capabilities are dampened by the rain, however, so it takes refuge in caves on rainy days. It is also capable of spewing poisonous gas and flames from its nostrils.

Turtonator is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Shell Trap.

Habitat This Pokémon resides on volcanoes, where it camouflages itself among the rocks and waits for prey.

Taming Tips It mostly keeps to itself; its nesting areas are easily found via its scorch marks. Fireproof outerwear is a must when attempting to find and engage with a Turtonator.

Alolan Exeggutor

Grass & Dragon-Type

Species
The Coconut Dragon Pokémon
Diet
Herbivorous
Temperament
Docile
Abilities
Frisk, Harvest
Lethality Scale

Alolan Exeggutor’s neck is thinner and much longer, causing it to more closely resemble a coconut tree or tropical palm tree than its Kantonian counterpart, which resembles the shorter desert palm. It has a long, tapering tail with two leaves and a fourth light green head on the tip.

Habitat Due to the abundance of sunlight in the Alola region, the Exeggutor that live there grows over five times taller than in other regions. Its increased height reduced its need for a psychic defense and has instead awakened its draconic powers, resulting in its psychic powers becoming weaker.

Taming Tips Prompting the Alolan Exeggutor into attacking by continuously swinging with its neck can make it dizzy and vulnerable to attacks.

Draconic Spirit in Mega Evolution

Historical records point to the Draconic People being the first to have harnessed energies for Mega Evolution. Contrary to popular belief, this phenomena is centuries old, but accessories have only recently been created as catalysts for it (mega rings, mega bracelets, mega charms, etc.)

It’s theorized that the Pokémon that can Mega Evolve into the Dragon-Type were once naturally Dragon-Types.

Wishing Stars

Pieces of Eternatus dropped in Hoenn (and Galar) during prehistoric times. These pieces, dubbed Wishing Stars, manipulate the spatial elements of reality around them and have also affected stones/minerals surrounding their impact zones.

Charizard-X

It takes on primitive Draconic aspects - angular wings, rough scales, and wicked spines on its shoulders. The blue fire, made up entirely of Draconic Energy from its overflowing spirit, that billows from its maw, is so intense it causes its entire body to turn black.

Ampharos

Massive amounts of energy intensely simulates Ampharos’ cells, awakening its long-sleeping Dragon’s blood. Wool that resembles flowing clouds emerges from its hide.

According to various texts, Ampharos were once revered as the original Draconic lords of the sky and were said to have controlled the winds and the rains.

Sceptile

Its tail sharpens to a point and poisonous bulbs emerge from its back. Also known as The Forest Pokémon, Mega Sceptile’s lineage can be traced back to Dragons attuned with their forests.

Its Draconic Spirit awakening will cause flora in the immediate area to flourish.
