Arcane Study - Study of Frostfire

While many mages dedicate themselves to either fire or frost in their pursuit of power, the Frostfire mage looks upon the elemental melding that a shaman can perform and seeks to emulate it. Through careful application of the arcane, a frostfire mage can twist the elements together and create a total reversal of their nature while still maintaining stability. This potent combination can prove devastating on the battlefield as the Frostfire mage seems to draw on seemingly limitless magic to burn and freeze their foes.

Elemental Melding

From 2nd level whenever you cast a spell that deals Fire or Cold damage you can choose to have half the damage dealt be Fire and the other half be Cold. When you do so, increase the dice size rolled for damage by one step (eg. d8 becomes d10, d12 becomes 2d6).

Elemental Acclimation

Your experience with both fire and frost magics gives you a trained resistance to extreme temperatures. You are unaffected by natural weather that causes severe heat or cold. In addition, the gold and time you must spend to copy a spell that deals fire or cold damage into your spellbook is halved.

Elemental Engine

Beginning at 6th level, casting frostfire spells comes so easily to you that it expends only a fraction of your spellcasting efforts. When you cast a spell of 2nd level or higher using a spell slot that deals either cold or fire damage, you regain one expended spell slot. The slot you regain must be of a level lower than the spell you cast and can't be higher than half your proficiency bonus.

Advanced Elemental Melding

Your ability to imbue your fire and frost spells with their opposing element is improved. From 10th level when you cast a spell of 1st level or higher that natively deals fire damage you add a chill effect, reducing the speed of any creatures affected by half until the end of your next turn. When you cast a spell of 1st level or higher that deals natively cold damage you add a lingering burn, dealing an additional 1d6 fire damage at the end of the next turn of any creatures affected.

Advanced Elemental Acclimation

From 10th level your familiarity with fire and ice allows you to take your acclimation even further. As a reaction when you take fire or cold damage you can halve the damage taken.

Hot and Cold streak

From 14th level when you use your action to cast a spell that natively deals fire damage, you can use your bonus action to cast a cantrip that natively deals cold damage, and vice versa. These cantrips only deal damage as if you were a level 1 spellcaster, and do not benefit from your higher level.
