Arcane Sentinel

The Anti-magic Fighter Archetype

You have dedicated yourself to mastering the arts of combat and harnessing arcane magic to confront and neutralize the powers of spellcasters. Through a combination of rigorous training and innate abilities, you have become a formidable adversary against mages, wielding your unique techniques to nullify their arcane prowess.

Arcane Academic

When you adopt this archetype at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in Arcana. In addition, you gain the following benefits:

  • You have advantage on Intelligence (Arcana) checks made to identify a spell or magical effect on a creature.
  • You count as a wizard for the purpose of attuning to or using magic items, and your spellcasting ability is intelligence.

Arcane Brands

Beginning at 3rd level, your weapon attacks are infused with powerful antimagic energy. Whenever you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you gain one Arcane Brand, which appears as a magic sigil on your body that glows in blueish light. The maximum number of Arcane Brands you can have at a time equals your level. Your Arcane Brands disappear if you spend 10 minutes without hitting another creature with a weapon attack, or when you expend them.

Invoked Brands. As a bonus action, you can choose a creature within 30 feet of you that you hit with a weapon attack within the last minute, and apply one or more Invoked Brands to it, chosen from the Invoked Brands list. Using an Invoked Brand requires you to expend a specified number of your Arcane Brands. Each Invoked Brand can be used only once per turn.

            Invoked Brands

Torn Vitality (1 Brand): You gain 2 temporary hit points, and you can expend any number of additional Arcane Brands to increase that amount by 2 for each additional Brand expended.

Searing Agony (1 Brand): The next successful attack made against the target until the end of your next turn deals an additional 2 force damage, and you can expend any number of additional Arcane Brands to increase that amount by 2 for each additional Brand expended.

Distracting Itch (1 Brand): If the target is holding concentration, it must succeed on a concentration check with a -2 to the roll or lose concentration, and you can expend any number of additional Arcane Brands to increase that penalty by 2 for each additional Brand expended.

Broken Focus (2 Brands): The next time the target would succeed on an attack roll or ability check until the end of your next turn, it must reroll the d20 and use the lower roll.

Violated Defense (3 Brands): The target’s AC is reduced by 5 until the end of your next turn.

Restricting Muzzle (3 Brands): The target loses its ability to speak and use verbal components for spells until the end of your next turn.

Crippling Shackle (4 Brands): The target's movement speed becomes 0 and it cannot teleport or use planar travel until the end of your next turn.

Ruptured Spell (4 Brands): A random magical effect or spell (excluding curses) affecting the target is dispelled.

Denied Will (4 Brands): The target cannot attack another creature of your choosing until the end of your next turn.

Severed Essence (5 Brands): The target's highest available spell slot is expended as if it had been used in the casting of a spell.

Physical Excellence

At 7th level, the bond between the weave and your physical body increases. As a bonus action, or when you use your Invoked Brands feature as a bonus action, you can use one or more of the options listed below by expending the specified number of Arcane Brands.

Unfettered Steps (4 Brands): Your movement is unaffected by difficult terrain, you don’t provoke opportunity attacks, and you are immune to the grappled and restrained conditions until the end of your next turn.

Impossible Leap (4 Brands): Your movement speed increases by 10 feet, your jump height triples, and you become immune to fall damage until the end of your next turn.

Aligned Psyche (3 Brands): You can end an effect that is causing you to be charmed, you become immune to the charmed condition and resistant to psychic damage until the end of your next turn.

Resolute Stance (3 Brands): Your speed becomes 0, you cannot be moved against your will, and you gain resistance to all damage until the end of your next turn.

Warding Brands

At 10th level, you gain the ability to better perfect your own body as a conduit for your Arcane Brands. When you use your Second Wind feature, you gain a maximum number of Arcane Brands equal to your proficiency bonus. Additionally, whenever you would fail a saving throw against a spell or magical effect, you can expend two Arcane Brands and reroll the d20, choosing the higher roll.

Exploit Weakness

At 15th level, your mastery of arcane offensive techniques reaches its peak. Whenever a creature with within 15 feet of you fails a saving throw or misses an attack, you can use your reaction to invoke the Arcane Brands and target it.

Antimagic Soul

At 18th level, your very presence becomes a disruptive force against magic. While you have a number of Arcane Brands equal to half your level, any spell of 5th level or lower cannot affect you against your will, and you have advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
