Warcraft - Roguish Archetype: Pandaren Wardancer

Pandaren grace is renowned the world over. Despite their size, their agility, balance, and careful fluid motions are the envy of many. While many train in the path of the monk, and others dedicate themselves to the shadows, the path of the wardancer is that of a pandaren on the frontline, weaving a dance of blade and hand in perfect sync. They stand as defenders of their allies, able to fight seemingly a never ending tide of foes, all the while turning the blades of their enemies back against them.

Pandaren wardancers serve as both entertainers and as warriors, training their bodies as art in peacetime and weapons in wartime. The iconic pandaren wardancer wears and wields little - only the lightest armour and their trusted blade. To some, they may appear simple, but that all changes once the whirlwind of blades enters the battlefield.

Wardancer

A pandaren's wardance is the most fundamental aspect of their training. You gain proficiency in the the Performance and Acrobatics skills. If you already had one or both of these, you instead gain proficiency in another Rogue skill in their place.

In addition, as a bonus action on your turn you can make an Acrobatics ability check contested by a creature you're adjacent to, to either move through their square or to swap places with them by tugging them off balance.

Finally, you may treat Longswords as Finesse weapons, so long as you wield them in one hand.

Empty Hand Technique

Wardancers are experts of acting with one hand free - striking with their weapon while using their open hand to throw enemies off balance. While wielding a single one-handed weapon, wearing light or no armour, and not wearing a shield, you have +1 to your AC.

Deflect Blow

Wardancers are proficient at deflecting enemy attacks. When you another creature hits you with a melee attack you can use your reaction to attempt to deflect it. You reduce the damage by 1d10 + your dexterity modifier + your rogue level. If this reduces the damage to 0, you can twist the attack against a creature other than yourself within 5ft of you, and deal the remaining damage to that creature instead of you.

For instance, if an enemy hit you for 10, and you reduced it by 15, you could redirect 5 of the damage to another creature.

Whirl of Blades

From 9th level you become better able to weave attacks around yourself. Whenever you successfully reduce an attack's damage to 0 with Deflect Blow, you gain another reaction that round.

Feather Step

Also from 9th level, a Wardancer learns how to step across water. So long as you move at least 20ft each round you are treated as having Water Walking, allowing you to safely traverse liquid surfaces.

Lockdown

From 13th level you're able to use your wardancing skills to keep enemies close to you. If an enemy creature tries to move while within 5ft of you, you can use your reaction to make an Dexterity (Acrobatics) ability check contested by their Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics). If you succeed, the target is knocked prone, and you immediately can make one melee weapon attack against them. If this attack hits, you regain your use of a reaction.

Lockdown's attack cannot activate Sneak Attack, even if it would otherwise qualify.

Dances of the August

From 17th level, your wardancing dedicates itself to one of the four August Celestials - the Black Ox, the White Tiger, the Jade Serpent, or the Red Crane. You can choose which to dedicate yourself to at the end of a long rest, and each dance imbues you with a special power.

Dance of the Ox. Niuzao's power strengthens your body and soul. After you take damage, you gain temporary hit points equal to half of the damage you took. These last for 1 minute.

Dance of the Tiger. Xuen's energies flash like lightning. Once per turn after an enemy attacks you, they must make a Constitution saving throw (DC8 + your dexterity modifier + your proficiency bonus) or be Blinded until the end of your next turn.

Dance of the Serpent. The jade energies of Yu-Lon strike at your foes. After you take damage, jade lightning strikes your attacker, dealing 5 lightning damage to them.

Dance of the Crane. The Red Crane's wings are at your back. Your gain a Fly Speed equal to your movement speed, so long as you move 20ft each round. If you fail to move for whatever reason, you glide to the ground without taking fall damage.
