Houzi-Wong

Long ago there was a civilization that had a deep connection to nature. One day, one of their prophets predicted their civilziation strangled by vines and overrun by jungles. They prayed to their gods, and in response their gods granted them the ability to survive in such an environment when the time came. They were transformed into men with the feet, tails, and some facial features of apes. With their new abilities, they flourished and rebuilt in the trees.

Clever Tricksters

Houzi-Wong are able to spot what makes someone tick and exploint it for their own gain. Of course, not all are so devious; some merely make use of their keen senses to play pranks on others. Regardless, this wisdom is one of the defining traits of a Houzi-Wong.

Monkey Men

Houzi-Wong have tails, monkey-like feet, and incredible dexterity as a result of the blessing of their gods. They have fur along their arms, necks, and legs as well as bushy sideburns and larger ears with monkey tails and feet. This fur can range from black to brown to blonde and even reddish-orange in rare cases; those born with reddish-orange fur are often seen as future leaders and rulers or destined for greatness in general and are treated as such.

Reverent to Nature

Houzi-Wong are unique among races that have calamity befall them; unlike others, they revere and respect the power and destruction nature can bring. Many are druids as a result, and those that are not tend to be clerics of gods who represent nature and all it contains. They specifically have great respect for trees, seeing them as hardy and strong. It is unwise to damage a tree in the presence of a Houzi-Wong, as they will at best find disdain for you and at worst attack you outright. Houzi-Wong housings are made from wood, vines, and animal hides but they have specific limits on this; you may only use wood from the tree you live in, and if a tree dies it must not be used as housing as this is seen as bad luck.

Dexterous Warriors

Houzi-Wong are known for their incredible skill with wooden quarterstaffs, all of which are given when a Houzi-Wong comes of age and made from the tree which they grew up in. They have the unique ability to imbue magic into their quartersaffs and make them extend to absurd ranges. These are referred to as Tengmu, and to lose your Tengmu is to bring shame upon your house. To have it destroyed and not seek vengance on the one who destroyed it is to condemn yourself to death by execution.
