Argali

A race of humaoids with the legs, head, and fur of a mountain ram. A formerly isolated and nomadic people that live and prosper in the tall mountains of the world.

Argali traits

Your argali character has the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 2.

Age. Argali mature at the same rate of humans, and baring any casualties caused by the perilous places they live, will generally live into the middle of their second century.

Alignment. Most argali are lawful, valuing tradition and the established way of life. The argali is very hospitable people, and no matter how down on their luck they are they will always welcome those in need.

Size. Argali are between 5 and 6 feet tall and weigh between 130 and 200 pounds. Your size is medium.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a climbing speed of 30 feet.

Mountain Born. You're acclimated to high altitude, including elevations above 20,000 feet. You're also naturally adapted to cold climates, as described in chapter 5 of the Dungeon Master's Guide.

Nomad's Experience. You are proficient in your choice of two of the following skills: Animal Handling, Nature, Perception, and Survival.

Ram Charge. In battle, you can make a special charge attack. If you move at least 20 feet straight toward a target and then hit it with a melee attack on the same turn, the target takes an extra 1d4 bludgeoning damage from your horns. If the target is a creature no more than one size category larger than you, it must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the attack hits you can't use this trait again until you have finished a short or long rest.

Sure-Footed. You have advantage on Strength and Dexterity saving throws made against effects that would knock you prone.

Languages. You can speak, read and write Common and Dwarvish.

Subraces. The shift between the old nomadic ways and the modern city settlers has resulted in two main subraces: alorosi and kerasi. Choose one of these subraces.

Alorosi

As an alorosi you are among the argali who chose to settle permanent cities in the mountains. As a result your people have laid down the plow and sickle, in favour of becoming expert craftsmen and trading their crafted goods with nearby dwarven and human settlements.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 1.

Craftsman. Pick an artisan's tools from from pg. 154 of the Player's Handbook. You have proficiency with these tools.

Kerasi

As a kerasi you are descended from the argali who stubbornly stuck to their nomadic ways, and to this day still wander the hills without settling. It is a tough life, but the kerasi take pride in the fortitude it takes to overcome it.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1.

Stubborn. You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
