Primal Path - Path of the Dragonslayer

Many barbarian tribes revere dragons as the ultimate expressions of physical strength, and so conquering dragons must mean that they are stronger still. These strength-testers are the primarily adherents to the Path of the Dragonslayer, but they are not the only ones. Some find the path after being wronged by a dragon, while others take it up seeking glory and riches. Regardless of how they come to follow the path, a Dragonslayer barbarian is a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield, its deep strikes slicing through the enemy defences accompanied by powerful leaps to pin down creatures and prevent them from fleeing, sometimes even turning their abilities back on themselves.

Flaying Strike

A dragon's thick hide is one of its most potent defences, and as a dragonslayer you have learned to pierce through this. From 3rd level when you hit a creature with a weapon attack you can choose to reduce its armour class by an amount equal to half your strength modifier. This reduction does not stack with itself. If used on a dragon type creature, the reduction is increased by a further -1. The target creature regains this lost armour class upon completion of a short or long rest.

Flaying Strike can be used a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, refreshing on a short rest.

Dragonslayer's Knowledge

When you choose this path at 3rd level you learn the Draconic language, if you didn't already have it. You also gain Proficiency in the Survival skill. When using this skill for any purpose relating to dragons - such as knowledge related to their habitats or tracking them - you have advantage on the ability check.

Slayer's Leap

At 6th level, your primal path allows you a counter to dragonflight. In exchange for one attack as part of an attack action you may jump up a number of feet equal to ten times your strength score, without costing any normal movement, so long as you jump to a hostile creature. When you do so you make a free grapple check against the creature. If the creature is flying and would not fall (for example due to the Hover trait), then so long as your grapple is maintained you remain with them and do not fall.

This grapple works even if the creature is two sizes or more larger than you, however in this instance you do not reduce their speed to 0ft, instead clinging onto them. The grappled creature must still use their action to make an opposed check to dislodge you, moving is not sufficient. The movement from Slayer's Leap does not provoke opportunity attacks.

This feature can be used a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, refreshing on a short rest.

Fearstriker

At 10th level you gain immunity to the Frightened condition. In addition, when a creature attempts to impose the Frightened condition on you or your allies you can use your Reaction to try to negate the effect and instead turn it back on the creature itself. The provoking creature must make a wisdom saving throw against DC8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. If they fail this save, the effect of their Frightened is negated and they are instead Frightened of you for 1 minute. They may make a new save at the end of each turn to end the effect early.

Fearstriker's active effect can be used once, refreshing on a short rest.

Hardened body

By 10th level you're used to falling from great heights. Any fall damage you take is reduced by an amount equal to your barbarian level, calculated after any other damage resistances or reductions from falling on other creatures.

Enduring Rage

At 14th level you learn to channel your rage to resist the breath of dragons. When you use your Rage ability, you gain immunity to one damage type of your choice from the following: acid, cold, fire, poison or lightning. This lasts until your rage ends. You can use your bonus action during your rage to channel it to a different damage type.

At 20th level, you can choose two damage types at once to have immunity to.

Sense Dragon

By reaching 14th level your experience with dragons is now so ingrained you can sense them. Once per long rest as an action you can focus your senses. You detect the presence of any dragon type creatures within 1 mile of you. You gain knowledge of their rough location relative to you, their numbers, their colours, and their approximate age category.
