Unseelie Agent Dedication

[Uncommon] , [Archetype] , [Dedication]

Prerequisites: You must worship or serve powerful Fey.

Your patron has deemed you worthy to wield a part of it's power, teaching you how to harness it. You become trained in Deception and Nature; If you were already trained, you become an expert instead. When you select the Unseelie Agent Dedication, you gain the Shadow-Wrought Weapon cantrip. You’re trained in spell attack rolls and spell DCs for primal spells. Your key spellcasting ability for unseelie agent archetype spells is Charisma, and they are primal spells.

Special You cannot select another dedication feat until you have gained two other feats from the Unseelie Agent archetype.

[Uncommon] , [Conjuration]

Cast [1 action]: somatic

Requirements: You have a free hand.

You call forth a weapon made of shadows that is always cold to the touch and often very extravagant. Each time you summon your Shadow-Wrought Weapon, choose a form for it to take from among the weapon types you are proficient with. It uses the statistics appropriate for that weapon type with the exception of using your Charisma Modifier for attack rolls instead of Strength or Dexterity.

You can add potency and striking runes to any weapon made in this way and you can add property runes with the following changes and restrictions. You can apply any property runes that you want to the Shadow-Wrought Weapon, however the weapon you create can only benefit from property runes that the specific type of conjured weapon would benefit from. For clarification, see the Modular weapon trait.

You can create up to two Shadow-Wrought Weapons at any time. If your Shadow-Wrought Weapon is not in your hand at the end of your turn the weapon dissappears. Additionally, you can spend 10-minutes performing a ritual with a specific weapon to assimilate it into your Shadow-Wrought Weapon Collection, allowing you to conjure that specific weapon with it's specific effects. Change Log

First, I would really like to say thank you all for giving this a look over. I am really happy to see any comments or feedback you may have. If you decide to play this and have any feedback at all, please don't hesitate to send me a message on reddit. I would love to hear about how it functions in actual play! Thank you so much!

v1.0

  • This is the first publishing of this Archetype/Dedication and I am mostly using this space to explain my own concerns and what my ideas were.
  • Unseelie Agent Dedication: This is mostly based on the Theme of the same name from 4th Edition D&D, mixed with some of the Hexblade and Pact of the Blade warlock from 5th Edition D&D.
    • Skills: The skills associated with the dedication are based on the nature of Unseelie Fey and nature as a whole.
    • Niche: The Shadow-Wrought Weapon is the main focus in this archetype. It gives you a magic weapon at level 2, when other characters would be able to get potency runes anyway, saving your group the cost of one rune. Then it continues to pay itself off by giving you the equivalent potency level as you would normally gain access to them. The only real balance consideration here is gold since you would otherwise have the weapon runes anyway.
  • Shadow-Wrought Armor: This is a feat added in to allow some flexibility in the playstyle. I didn't want someone to be forced into taking Primal Smite and Fey Barriar to get out of the dedication, so I needed more options.
    • This works exactly as Shadow-Wrought Weapon, with the only difference being that you get access to the +1 and +2 potency runes one level faster than normal due to the way heightening works and the levels you would normally get armor potency runes. I don't see this as a big issue since again they should have access anyway, and the real utility here is the at-will don/doff.
  • Primal Smite: This is based on the Cleric Channel Smite feat, but using the cantrips from the Primal spell list instead of Harm/Heal and being tied to focus points.
    • I chose the 5 primary combative cantrips in the primal list and applied them to this effect. It is supposed to be a way for the character to tap into nature's fury and have flexibility in what effect is used based on the situation. I am really unsure about the balance of this ability, but I don't think it's incredibly far out of tune. Thoughts?
  • Fey Barrier: This ability started out as with me trying to make a version of the shield spell that you can cast on allies or yourself and giving you a special reaction to "shield block" with it, however i ended up typing the word "concealed" in the flavor text and immediately thought "Why not just use that?"

    • So, I changed it to concealed, scrapped the reaction usage and added that you consider enemies as flat-footed since they struggle to anticipate your actions.
  • So far, this is all I have, but i feel it needs more feat choices. If you can think of any, please suggest them!
