\page # The Core Bearer A scruffy pirate is surrounded by monsters. He laughs as he twirls his fingers over a golden compass embedded in his skin. In a swirl of blue spectres, the pirate is replaced by a being of fire and rock blasting billows of flame. The fight is over, charred remains in place of his attackers. Faced with a fearsome dragon, a collared Minotaur roars a battle cry. A flash of emerald light dissipates to reveal a giant monster capable of trading blows with the dragon. Two beings face each other in a standoff. One reacts quickly, conjuring a fireball and hurtling it at the other. The flames dissipate, revealing an arm of dark purple crystal attached to the earth Genasi, absorbing the energy.

### Every Shape and Size As a Core Bearer you can become a tool for any situation. No matter how desperate the situation seems, you always have the skillset required to do what must be done, even if you desired a different form. ### Greatest Weapon in the Universe in Unworthy Hands As a Core Bearer you have access to a weapon so powerful that the universe lies at your mercy. Even the gods tremble at the power you have the potential to wield. Will succumb to temptation, or will your strength of will and noble spirit win out over greed? ### Creating a Core Bearer Creating a Core Bearer requires you to specify the way you came into possession of the Matrix Core you utilise. Is it a relic of an ancient time, long forgotten from fact and bled into legend? Perhaps it is an advanced magical, or technological creation, unstable and stolen by forces unknown. #### Quick Build You can make a Core Bearer quickly by following these suggestions. First, Intelligence should be your highest ability score, followed by Constitution or Charisma. Second, Choose either the Far Traveller or Folk Hero background. ## Class Features As a Core Bearer, you gain the following features. #### Hit Points

**Hit Dice:** 1d6 per Core Bearer level.

**Hit Points At 1st Level:** 6 + your Constitution modifier

**Hit Points At Higher Levels:** 1d6 (or 4) + your Constitution modifier per Core Bearer level after 1st. #### Proficiencies

**Armours:** Light Armour

**Weapons:** Simple Weapons

**Tools:** Tinker's Tools

**Saving Throws:** Intelligence and Constitution

**Skills:** Choose two from Deception, Insight, Investigation, Arcana, Sleight of Hand, Medicine, and History #### Equipment You start with the following equipment, in addition to the equipment granted by your background:

• The Matrix Core, Leather armour, and Tinkerer's Tools

• (a) a light crossbow and 20 bolts or (b) any simple weapon

• (a) a scholar's pack or (b) a dungeoneer’s pack

\page ### The Matrix Core At 1st level you acquire The Matrix Core through means described in your backstory. The Matrix Core grants you a variety of class features, the main star of the show however is to transform into creatures from various parts of the universe. The Matrix Core can take the form of any wearable trinket, such as a gauntlet, watch, ring, necklace, etc. The form your Matrix Core takes is not removable from your body by any conventional or magical means. Only the original creator of the Matrix Core possesses the knowledge to remove it. The Matrix Core is bound to your soul only when your soul is destroyed, lost, or passed on will it leave your body, otherwise the Matrix Core remains innate until your soul is back in your body. Losing the Matrix Core will result in losing all your class features revolving around it. ### The Playlist System Being a Core Bearer is all about choice, but you need to be clever and creative in your choices! Every creature you can transform into is alloted a number of transformation points, assigned either by the DM or the Alien Compendium. The total number of transformation points for aliens in your playlist can never exceed the number of points allowed by your level, listed in the table above. As a rule of thumb you gain 5 points every two levels.

Work together with your DM to create a starting playlist and work towards creating and adding new creatures to your arsenal! You can change the transformations in your active playlist during a long rest, and exchange one transformation for another during a short rest. #### Transformation To transform into a creature, you must roll a d10. On every number between 2-10, you transform into a creature from your playlist you specify. On a roll of 1 you transform into a creature from your playlist chosen by the DM. The following rules are applied upon transformation: - Your character gains the amount of temporary HP depicted in the creature's stat block. When you run out of HP granted this way, you revert back to your base form, retaining all HP you had before transforming. - Your Ability Scores and modifiers are replaced by those of the creature, except you do not gain the benefiets of the 'Evolution' section of the state block. - Unless stated otherwise on the creature’s stat block, you retain your alignment, personality traits, and memories. - Your clothes and equipment merge with your new form, becoming clothing similar in appearance to what you were wearing, but in a style applicable to the creature’s anatomy and culture. - The Matrix Core also appears visible somewhere on your body within a reachable distance of the creature’s limbs. - If you are already transformed at the start of combat, roll your timer dice and later your time out dice as normal. Transformations last for 3d4 rounds while in combat, and 10 minutes outside of combat. Once it ends you enter time out, you are not able to transform again for 2d6 rounds in combat and 15 minutes outside of combat. Transforming in this way is a full turn action. #### DNA Scanning Despite the Condon Stream being the most extensive collection of DNA in the known universe, it is not complete. Some creatures are locked behind a prerequisite that requires the player to visit certain areas of the world or encounter certain monsters and scan them for that prerequisite to be met. The moment scanning mode activates, you enter an involuntary Life form Lock that can only be disabled by scanning the unknown DNA. At the DM’s discretion new creatures from the Appendix can be added to the Matrix Core by scanning appropriate DNA. Scanned transformations do not count against your total transformation slots. The DM cannot give you an amount of additional transformations that exceeds your proficiency bonus. Casting Time: 1 action Range: Touch Components: S Duration: Instantaneous ### Core Secrets Much of the Matrix Core’s function remains unknown. It will take considerable time and effort to discover all the secrets it possesses. At 2nd level, you have discovered a previously unknown function of your Matrix Core, known as a Secret. Available Secrets are detailed at the end of the class description. You gain additional Secrets at 5th, 10th, 14th, and 18th level. One Secret can be exchanged for another from the list when you level up. ### Core Configurations At 3rd level, you choose a Configuration for the Matrix Core in your possession. Choose between the Arsenal Build, the Evolution Build, the Unity Build or the Fusion Build. These Configurations are detailed at the end of the class description. Each Configuration grants you additional features at 3rd, 6th, 11th, and 17th level. ### Ability Score Improvement When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th, and 19th level, you can increase one ability score by 2, or you can increase two Ability Scores by 1. You cannot increase an ability score above 20 using this feature. ### Beginner Control Starting at 7th level, you now roll 3d6 when determining transformation rounds, 20 minutes out of combat, and roll 1d8 to determine time-out rounds, 10 minutes out of combat.

\page ### Life Form Lock Starting at 9th level, you can spend your downtime to set your Matrix Core to Lock Mode, which allows you to stay transformed as a creature for an extended period of time. It takes 10 minutes to activate, at the end of which you must chose a creature to immediately transform into. You cannot use Life Form Lock on a creature with higher transformation points than your proficiency bonus. While transformed this way you do not gain temporary health, cannot transform into another creature, and cannot time out unless you die. Lock Mode takes 10 minutes to deactivate, when deactivated make a Constitution saving throw with a DC of 15, suffering a level of exhaustion on a failure. ### Fail-safe Protocol At 13th level, when an attack would reduce you to 0 HP you can use your reaction to turn into a creature instantly, regardless of time out, as the Matrix Core acts out in its own accord to keep you alive. The DM chooses a creature fitting for the situation to transform you into (for instance an amphibious or aquatic creature if drowning, or a flying creature if falling.) This feature is usable once per long rest, and twice per long rest at level 16. ### Intermediate Control You now roll 3d10 to determine transformation rounds, and one hour out of Combat, and your time out is 1d4 rounds, 5 minutes out of combat. ### Master Control Starting at 20th level you have unlocked the full power of the Matrix Core. You can now remain transformed for as long as you desire. You no longer roll time out dice. You can no longer mistransform.

\page ## Core Configurations Just as every creature represented in the Codon Stream is different and unique, every Matrix Core Configuration is distinct in its function, incomparable in behaviour and design. One Core bearer could be dedicated to using every single creature to their maximum potential, while another could evolve them into something more than can naturally be accomplished. ### The Arsenal Build You’ve decided to dedicate yourself to understanding the different creatures of the universe, from their strengths and abilities to their nuances and weaknesses. The Arsenal Build is the most stable and refined of the Core Configurations and is rumoured to have been the original design for the Matrix Core. #### Quick Change At 3rd level you can transform from one alien to the next as a bonus action. Doing so increases your transformation time by 1d4 rounds, though your temporary HP remains unchanged. You gain Quick Change charges equal to your proficiency bonus and get half your charges back on a long rest.

``` ``` #### Better Transformations At 6th level you have become more proficient with your transformations. You now roll +your proficiency bonus (double if the attack already adds proficiency) to hit and damage.

#### DNA Control At 11th level you get the ability to exchange 2 creatures in your active playlist for 2 new ones in the Appendix on a long rest. You cannot swap out creatures given to you by the DM as a part of a DNA scan. You also get the ability to repair damaged DNA. As an action, you can touch a target and the following effects take place: - You cast Greater Restoration at 5th level on the target. - You also heal the target for half your max HP + 10. - Any physical damage healed in this way, such as a severed arm, is patched up with the DNA from the creatures in your current playlist. At the DM’s discretion, the restored area could physically resemble the anatomy of the creature used to restore it. This ability is can be used once per long rest. #### Slimy, Creepy, Fast and Strong A 17th level, the Matrix core knows you better than you know yourself. You can transform at a thought, as a free action on your turn, transformed or in base form, or as a reaction. Once per engagement, when you would detransform, change instead to a different transformation.

\page ### The Evolution Build You have seen the power of your Matrix Core and wish to push its potential beyond the rules of nature. The Evolution Build was designed with the intention of evolving your transformations to an even more powerful state, arguably the ultimate potential of the species. #### Artificial Evolution At 3rd level, you have modified your Matrix Core to artificially evolve your transformations by simulating their species’ evolution over a million years in a war-like environment, and now they have reached their ultimate potential. Whilst transformed you can evolve your transformation as a free action, by touching your Matrix Core. Doing so grants you the benefits of the evolution section of the creature’s stat block. You can do this a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus and regain half of your charges on a long rest. You cannot use this feature while in Life-form lock without the appropriate secret. #### Eldritch Awareness At 6th level, your insight into the natural evolution of the universe has given you the knowledge that some things are not meant to be understood and do not abide by the conventional rules of the universe. In order to combat these creatures you have modified your Matrix Core to warn, and protect, you from these aberrations and eldritch beings. You are considered as having true sight when looking at aberrations and creatures with a magical connection to eldritch beings, these creatures are also highlighted by your true sight, allowing you to pick them out of a crowd with greater ease. Your Matrix Core also grants you immunity to suffering any form of madness. ``` ``` #### Ultimate Evolution At 11th level, your bond with your Matrix Core has increased the ability, power and durability of your Evolutions. When Evolving, along with the previous benefits, your evolutions now gain an additional +1 to AC, +2 to all stats and 30 additional temporary hitpoints. Additionally, your attacks also gain an additional +2 to hit, when evolved.

\page ### The Unity Build You’ve realised that the universe is connected by its building blocks and decided to modify your Matrix Core to become one with the universe and, ultimately, have the universe be one with you. The Unity Core was built with the intention to absorb matter, energy and DNA into yourself, enhancing your DNA and granting you new abilities. #### the Matter at Hand At 3rd level you’ve modified your Matrix Core to absorb matter to alter your physical state. As a bonus action you can absorb an objects material that is not wielded by somebody, altering your skin to resemble the source material as a protective coating that Increases your fortitude and increases the impact of your blows. These benefits last until combat ends, you transform using the matrix core, or an hour has passed out of combat. You can only use this feature in base form. #### Symbiosis At 6th level, you can manifest a part of a transformation in base form. As a bonus action you gain one of that creature’s traits, movement speeds, resistances, immunities, or condition immunities that lasts for your normal transformation time. This feature can only manifest one aspect at a time and is dismissed if you transform. You can use this features a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier.

Credit: Man Of Action #### I Am the Core At 11th level, you can manifest any ability of a transformation you have unlocked at any time, including whilst transformed. When transforming your Symbiosis carries over to the transformation. Additionally you can now empower your attacks with Symbiosis, dealing 1d6 elemental damage if applicable. #### DNA Overload At 17th level, you have mastered the ability of symbiosis. You can spend a full turn action to undergo a powerful transformation into a n amalgamation of all your unlocked creatures. When you gain this feature, work with your DM to make a possible fusion combining the aspects of all the creatures you have access to. This transformation comprises a, trait, action, or reaction from each of your transformations. The appearance of this transformation incorporates part of anatomy from every transformation your Matrix Core can access into Frankenstein-like amalgamation. You must fill out your ability scores with ability scores from six different species. While transformed in this way you gain the following traits: - an AC of 18 - gain temporary hit points equal to you Hit Point Maximum - a vulnerability to Physic damage - a large size - an additional 2d6 to all your damage rolls However, you enter a frenzy and must attack the creature nearest to you each turn. This transformation lasts 2d6 rounds and after transforming back to your base form, you suffer the normal time out rules. You can use this feature once per long rest. You can use Life Form Lock with this transformation but must succeed an intelligence save with a DC 25 every hour or go into a frenzy for an hour.

\page ### The Fusion Build Your knowledge of synergies between your transformations inspired you to blend them together to create entirely new combinations and powersets. You’ve split your Matrix Core into two pieces and use both to transform yourself into powerful fusions #### DNA Fusion At 3rd level, you have created a secondary Matrix Core that works in tandem with your original. The secondary Core is used to fuse two creatures together into entirely new beings. You can create a number of fusions equal to half your available transformation slots rounded up. ##### The fused creature has the following characteristics: - It is always considered the largest size of both selected creatures. - Its HP is half the sum of both creatures HP. - Its AC is half the sum of both creatures AC. - Its speed is half the sum of both creatures' speeds rounded up in increments of 5 feet. If one creature is capable of a type of movement the other doesn’t possess that creature is considered as having 5 feet of movement in that speed for calculation. - It has all the condition immunities from both creatures. - Its ability scores are half the sum of both creatures ability scores. - It shares the highest skills and senses from both creatures. - It possesses all the languages the base creatures have. - It gains no immunities, resistances, or vulnerabilities from either creature. - It gains one trait from both creatures that doesn’t fall under the evolution section. - It gains one action from both creatures, if the action is a part of a multiattack you gain the multiattack as well. - It gains one reaction from both creatures, if applicable.
When you transform using a creature that forms part of a prepared fusion, you can use your free action to make a DC 12 intelligence saving throw (using base stats) to transform into that fusion. On a failure you do not fuse and can attempt to fuse on a subsequent turn as an action. ``` ```

A resistance and weakness to the same type cancel each other out, while an immunity and weakness becomes a resistance. #### Supreme Combination Starting at 11th level your combinations now use the highest stats and highest movement speed from the base transformations. At 13th level your fusions gain access to all the actions and abilities from both base creatures. #### Combination X At 17th level, you have reached the pinnacle of fusion and have found a way to combine Celestial X with your creatures. When fusing Celestial X with a creature you apply the following benefits: - The fusion gains a +10 to all the base creature's ability scores. - The fusion gains a natural AC of 20. - You gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed. - You can teleport as a reaction up to 120 feet to a spot you can see. - Your gain hit points equal to double your max base HP You can only use this fusion once per long rest. You can not use life form lock with this feature.

\page ## Secrets ***Advanced DNA Scanner.*** Your DNA scanning spell is altered to the following state: Casting Time: free action Range: 60ft Components: S Duration: Instantaneous Your Matrix Core will also glow yellow when in a 300 ft. of a new creature and give basic directions towards it. The Advanced DNA Scanner allows you to disable the involuntary lifeform lock that activates when scanning mode is initiated.

***Advanced Life Form Lock*** ***Prerequisite:*** Life Form Lock You can now activate Life Form Lock on a short rest and the deactivation time is reduced to one minute.

***Albedo’s Curse*** Tampering with your Matrix Core has irreparably damaged your DNA. You are treated as if you suffered the effects of the reincarnate spell but can’t become the same race you currently are, in exchange you gain 4 ability score improvement points to improve your attributes as you wish. You cannot remove this Secret once acquired.

***Core A.I.*** Your interactions with your Matrix Core has caused it to develop an artificial intelligence capable of independent thought and action. Your Matrix Core has an intelligence of 17 and can communicate with you. Its alignment is true neutral. This A.I. can provide additional information about the Matrix Core’s functions, purpose, and it also gives advantage on History checks.

***Dexterous Limbs*** Your fat, clumsy fingers have developed the necessary dexterity to better operate the delicate mechanism of your Matrix Core. The transformation lasts an additional 3 minutes outside of battle and an additional 1d4 when in combat.

***Flexible DNA*** ***Prerequisite:*** Unity Build. You have augmented your DNA to resemble another playable race. When you unlock this secret, choose a race and you can get one feature of this race that is not an ability score. You can take this secret more than once choosing a different playable race.

***Hidden Core*** You have discovered a cloaking method for your Matrix Core. As an interaction you can hide it from view. Your Matrix Core conceals itself by blending into your current form or turning invisible. Making it almost undetectable, however you do instinctively know its location on your body.

***Controlled Fusion*** **Prerequisite:** Fusion Build When transforming into a fusion, you can decide between the size of either original creature when determining the size of the fusion, instead of always being the largest.

***Indomitable Evolution*** **Prerequisite:** Evolution build You are the ultimate fighting machine. You will destroy your enemies, no matter what it takes. Once per long rest when you evolve a transformation, you gain 50 temporary hitpoints, and can sacrifice 10THP to gain an aditional d10 on any damage roll. You can do this multiple times, 30HP for 3d10 damage and so on. You cannot sacrifice more THP than you gained using this secret.

***Map generator*** As you move across the world your Core charts the places you’ve been in great detail. Your Core charts any area in a 15 feet radius around you as a 3D hologram. You can bring up this map any time as an action and dismiss it as a free action. The map can display any place you’ve traveled to since unclocking this Secret. However your Core doesn’t update your maps until you retread the same area.

***Randomizer Function*** Tampering with your Omnitrix has had an unexpected result. When transforming, you can roll an additional transformation dice when transforming, but you roll 1d100 to select your transformation instead of choosing a specific transformation. Use the Randomizer table in The Alien Compendium for this function. If the alien you land on is not in your activated playlist, you transform into it as if it was with the same restrictions and abilities.

***Shape Changer*** ***Prerequisite:*** Unity Build, Symbiosis You can cast Alter Self on yourself once per short rest.

***Shape Matter*** ***Prerequisite:*** Unity Model, Matter of the World After absorbing matter from an item, you can shape a 5ft square cube of the same material into any kind of shape or form. You can also turn you hand into any simple melee weapon made from that material.

**Shape-Shift Protection** Your Matrix Core protects you from any ability that changes you into another creature against your will, such as Polymorph or True Polymorph.

***Surge mode*** **Prerequisite:** Evolution build You’ve learned to push your evolutions to their full power. When using the Ultimate Evolution feature you can state that you activate surge mode. During surge mode you roll a d8 and subtract it from your to hit roll, but deal the maximum damage value for your attack. Surge mode doesn’t work for actions with saving throws. You can use this once per long rest.

***Ultimate Life Form Lock*** **Prerequisite:** Evolution Build and Life Form Lock You can now engage Life Form Lock as an evolved transformation. Doing so expends all your evolution charges and you cannot regain any until you end Life Form Lock.

\page ***Combined skillset*** ***Universal Translator*** You gain the ability to understand any language spoken to you as a passive trait as long as your Matrix Core is in your possession.

**Prerequisite:** Fusion Build, level 5 Your experience with fusing a varitey of creatures has granted you clarity to their biological functions. Once per fusion transformation after you used an attack or ability, you can use an attack or ability from the other half of the fusion as a free action.

***Stable Transformations*** ***Prerequisite:*** Level 5 You automatically succeed your save when transforming into your selected creature and can no longer transform into the wrong creature. You also automatically succeed Fusion saves.

***Topography and Genetic Mapping tool*** **Prerequisite:** Level 5, Map Generator, Advanced DNA Scanner You've combined some of the the features of yout Matrix Core into a more powerful configuration. Your map generator now has a radius of 30ft for creating maps, and now displays the location of unknown DNA samples as yellow dots on the map display. If the DNA sample is in a location unmapped by your Map Generator, it is displayed at the nearest edge of the generated map.

***Welded Anatomy*** **Prerequisite:** Fusion Build, Level 5 Once per short rest you can choose to stay transformed as a fusion for a number of additional rounds equal to the number of fusions you have unlocked.

***Evo Ex Machina*** **Prerequisite:** Level 7, Evolution Build Once per long rest When you would time out as a base transformation, gain 2+1d6 rounds as an evolution instead.

***Factory Reset.*** ***Prerequisite:*** Unity Build, level 7 As a full turn action you can interact with, and reboot your Matrix Core, doing so causes you to be trapped inside the Matrix Core in a 1 by 1 foot cylinder that represents it. Whilst inside you do not age and are unconscious until someone uses their action to reactive the Matrix Core. Doing so causes you to reappear in the nearest unoccupied space, fully restores your health and removes any conditions, illness, or injuries you’ve suffered beforehand, as your body has been reconstructed from the group up. Due to how taxing this is on your Matrix Core you can only do so once a week.

***From one Freakshow to the Next*** **Prerequisite:** Fusion build, Level 7 As an action you can switch from one fusion to another without going back to base form. This doesn’t affect transformation time, but you cannot make any reactions or take any bonus actions this turn.

***Hoverboard*** **Prerequisite**: Omni build, Level 7 Using schematics generated by your Matrix Core, you discovered how to create a Hoverboard. While using the Hoverboard you have 20 ft flying speed. Be careful, however, as the Hoverboard is fragile, and treated as having 5 hit points and an AC of 10. You can spend a long rest while having acces to tinkerer's tools to repair it. It is only usable by beings the size of your base form or smaller.

***Ultimate Bearer*** **Prerequisite**: Evolution build, level 10 You’ve learned to manipulate your base form to draw forth its full potential. As a free action you can spend one of your evolution charges to give your base form a +4 in all ability scores for the duration of a standard transformation. For the duration of this transformation, ability scores can exceed 20.

***Holding Cell*** ***Prerequisite:*** Arsenal Build, level 15 Your Matrix Core can now function as a holding cell for 3 beings. To contain a being inside they must either be willing, unconscious or in near death state. Make a DC 15 Int check. If you succeed the target is transported to the cell. If they are willing you get advantage on the check. The target is either transported to a 20 by 20 room with rations and a bed, or exists in the Matrix Core in a petrified state until released. The period of time a being can remain undamaged in the Matrix Core is several days.

***Ascalon*** **Prerequisite:** Level 15 You have been deemed worthy to wield the creator of the Matrix Core's previous creation, the infamous sword, Ascalon. You can manifest the sword as a bonus action. Ascalon has the following properties: - melee weapon (martial, sword) - Category: Magical Item - Damage: 5d8 - Damage Type: Magical - Item Rarity: Standard - Properties: Versatile - No creature, entity, deity or being is immune to damage from the blade of Ascalon. As an action while wielding Ascalon, you can manifest the mythical Armour of Ascalon across your body. The armour increases your AC by 2 (to a minimum of 16) and protects you from the effects of any curse, or aging, while worn. You can manifest both sword and armour while transformed, and the sword and armour both scale to your current size.

***Potis Altiare.*** **Prerequisite:** Level 18. You have built an add-on for your Matrix Core based off a powerful device known as the Potis Altiare. All your transformations gain +10 to all stats.
