# Conclave of the Erupting Arrow ### Conclave Spells Starting at 3rd level, you learn additional spells when you reach certain levels in this class, as shown in the Erupting Arrow Conclave Spells table. The spells count as ranger spells for you, but do not count against the number of ranger spells you know. Spells marked with an * are detailed at the end of this document. ##### Erupting Arrow Conclave Spells | Ranger Level | Conclave Spells | |:----:|:---------| | 3rd | Create or Destroy Water | | 5rd | Continual Flame | | 9th | Thunder Step | | 13th | Lightning Whip\* | | 17th | Elemental Surge\* | : ### Ways of the Hunt : ##### Cantrips At 3rd level, you learn two of the following cantrips: *Control Flame*, *Gust*, *Mold Earth*, *Shape Water*. They count as ranger spells for you, and Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for them. You gain an additional cantrip from this list at 7th level, and another at 11th level. ##### Crafts At 3rd level, you can channel natural and elemental magic into your ranged attacks and body. You learn how to ready special magical arts called Crafts, which are detailed below. Crafts are divided into Shots, Hikes, and Techniques. You learn three Crafts of your choice. You learn two additional Crafts of your choice at 7th, 11th, and 15th level. Each time you gain a level in this class, you can also replace a Craft you know with a different one. Each Craft requires you to expend a spell slot to use. You can expend a higher-level spell slot to gain additional benefits. Some Crafts require your target to make a saving throw to resist the Craft's effect. When you use such an effect from this class, the DC equals your ranger spell save DC. ### Elemental Echo At 7th level, you've learned how to best redirect the energy from elemental attacks. When you take acid, cold, fire, lightning, or thunder damage, you can use your reaction to gain resistance to the triggering damage type until the start of your next turn. Also, the first time you hit with a melee or ranged attack on your next turn, the target takes an extra 1d6 damage of the triggering type. : You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. ### Nova Arrow At 11th level, you can now amp your Crafts with alternative methods. You gain four Nova Charges. When you expend a spell slot to use a Craft, you can also choose to expend one or more Nova Charges to boost the power of the Craft. For each Nova Charge expended, you can treat the Craft as being used with a spell slot one level higher than the slot expended. All other requirements of the craft still apply. You regain all expended Nova Charges when you finish a long rest. ### Elemental Eruption At 15th level, you can call forth a burst of elemental energy when it is needed most. Once per long rest, you can cast one of the following spells at 5th level as a ranger spell without expending a spell slot: *Cone of Cold*, *Fireball*, *Lightning Bolt*, *Seismic Railgun*.\* Also, you gain an two additional Nova Charges. :::::: ## Crafts ### Shots The following Crafts are focused on decimating enemies with magic focused through ammunition. When you hit a target with a ranged weapon attack, you can use a bonus action and expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher to force the projectile to explode, applying the Shot's damage and effect to the attack, in addition to the weapon's damage. Using a shot destroys the projectile. : **Booming Shot.** You deal an additional 1d6 thunder damage to the target for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d6 for every spell slot higher than 1st (to a maximum of 4d6 thunder damage). Additionally, the target must make a Strength saving throw or be pushed 10 feet away from you on a failed saved, plus an additonal 10 feet for every spell slot higher than 1st (to a maximum of 40 feet). A creature immune to thunder damage automatically succeeds on this saving throw. \page

: **Ever-Caustic Shot.** You can afflict the target with a slow-acting acid. After this Craft is used, the target takes 3d4 acid damage at the start of each of its turns. After it takes damage from this Craft a number of times equal to the level of the slot used (to a maximum of 12d4 acid damage), or after 1 minute, the effect ends. A target can only be affected by one Ever-Caustic Shot at a time. If a new instance is applied, the older Craft immediately ends. : **Fireburst Shot.** You force the target, as well as all creatures within 5 feet of it, to make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 2d10 fire damage, or half as much damage on a successful one, for a 1st level spell slot. For each spell slot higher than 1st, this damage increases by 1d10 and the area of effect increases by 5 feet (to a maximum of 5d10 fire damage and affecting all creatures within 20 feet of the target). The fire spreads around corners. It ignites flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried. : **Fortifying Shot.** *Prerequisite 7th level* When you activate this shot, you gain 1d8 temporary hit points for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d8 for every spell slot higher than 1st (to a maximum of 4d8 temporary hit points). : **Frozen Shot.** You deal an additional 1d6 cold damage to the target for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d6 for every spell slot higher than 1st (to a maximum of 4d6 cold damage). Additionally, the target's speed is halved and it can't take reactions for a number of rounds equal to the level of the slot used (to a maximum of 4 rounds). A creature immune to cold damage is unaffected by this Craft. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make a Constitution saving throw. On a success, the effect ends. : **Fury Shot.** *Prerequisite 7th level* You deal an additional 2d8 force damage to the target for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d8 for every spell slot higher than 1st (to a maximum of 5d8 force damage). : **Infection Shot.** You deal an additional 1d6 poison damage to the target for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d6 for every spell slot higher than 1st (to a maximum of 4d6 poison damage). Additionally, the target's can't regain hit points for a number of rounds equal to the level of the slot used (to a maximum of 4 rounds). A creature immune to poison damage is unaffected by this Craft. : **Jolt Shot.** You deal an additional 1d6 lightning damage to the target for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d6 for every spell slot higher than 1st (to a maximum of 4d6 lightning damage). Additionally, the target must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, it drops one item of your choice it is holding, and the item is pushed 10 feet directly away from you. A creature immune to lightning damage is unaffected by this Craft. : **Sundown Shot.** *Prerequisite 7th level* You deal an additional 1d6 necrotic damage to the target for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d6 for every spell slot higher than 1st (to a maximum of 4d6 necrotic damage). Additionally, whenever the target makes an attack roll or a saving throw, they must roll a d4 and subtract it from the roll. After a number of rounds equal the level of the spell slot used (to a maximum of 4 rounds), the effect ends. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make a Charisma saving throw. On a success, the effect ends. : **Sunrise Shot.** *Prerequisite 7th level* You deal an additional 1d6 radiant damage to the target for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d6 for every spell slot higher than 1st (to a maximum of 4d6 radiant damage). Additionally, whenever a creature makes an attack roll against the affected target, they can roll a d4 and add it to their attack roll. After a number of rounds equal the level of the spell slot used (to a maximum of 4 rounds), the effect ends. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make a Charisma saving throw. On a success, the effect ends. : **Whisper Shot.** You deal an additional 1d6 psychic damage to the target for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d6 for every spell slot higher than 1st (to a maximum of 4d6 psychic damage). Additionally, the target is frightened of you for a number of rounds equal to the level of the slot used (to a maximum of 4 rounds). A creature immune to psychic damage is unaffected by this Craft. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make a Wisdom saving throw. On a success, the effect ends. \page

### Hikes The following Crafts are focused on enhancing your speed and agility, allowing you to quickly traverse terrain, get into advantageous positions, and evade your enemies. You can only be under the effect of one Hike at a time. If you activate a new Hike while already under the effects of one, or are reduced to 0 hit points, the previous Hike immediately ends. : **Free Step.** *Prerequisite 7th level* At the start of your turn, you can expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher (no action required) to gain the following effects, as well as all lower level effects, for one minute: 1st: You can stand up without requiring any movement if you are prone 2nd: You can immediately end the grappled condition on yourself, and become immune to the grappled condition. 3rd: You can immediately end the restrained condition on yourself, and become immune to the restrained condition. 4th: You can immediately end the stunned condition on yourself, and become immune to the stunned condition. : **Phase Walk.** *Prerequisite 7th level* As a bonus action, you can expend a spell slot of 2nd level or higher to gain the following effects per level of spell slot used for one minute: 2nd: You can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. You take 4d8 force damage if you end your turn inside a creature or an object. 3rd: You can move through other creatures and objects. Opportunity attacks made against you are made with disadvantage. If you move through a creature's space it takes 1d8 force damage. A creature can only take this damage once per round. You take 3d8 force damage if you end your turn inside a creature or an object. 4th: Your movement speed is increased by 10 feet, and you can move through other creatures and objects. Opportunity attacks made against you automatically miss. If you move through a creature's space it takes 2d8 force damage. A creature can only take this damage once per round. You take 2d8 force damage if you end your turn inside a creature or an object. When this Craft ends, if you are inside a creature or an object, you are immediately shunted to the nearest unoccupied space that you can occupy and take 2d8 force damage for every 5 feet traveled. : **Quick Stroll.** As a bonus action, you can expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher to gain the following effects, as well as all lower level effects, for one minute: 1st: Your speed is increased by 10 feet. Additionally, opportunity attacks against you are made with disadvantage. 2nd: Your speed is increased by 10 feet (for a total of 20 feet). Additionally, you can move across any liquid surface—such as water, acid, mud, snow, quicksand, or lava—as if it were harmless solid ground (creatures crossing molten lava can still take damage from the heat). 3rd: Your speed is increased by 10 feet (for a total of 30 feet). Additionally, you gain a climbing speed equal to your walking speed, and you gain the ability to move up, down, and across vertical surfaces and upside down along ceilings, while leaving your hands free. 4th: Your speed is increased by 10 feet (for a total of 40 feet). Additionally, as a bonus action, you can teleport to an unoccupied location you can see within your movement speed. You can use this bonus action only if you haven’t moved during this turn, and after you use this bonus action, your speed is 0 until the end of the current turn. : #### Techniques Techniques are various Crafts that use magic to enhance your body, mind, and draw, giving you a helpful boon when you need it most. : **Bola Bullet.** As an action, you can expend a 1st level spell slot or higher to slam a target with incorporeal chains. When you are wielding a ranged weapon you’re proficient with, make a ranged spell attack within the normal range of your weapon. On a hit, the target takes 2d10 bludgeoning damage for a 1st-level spell slot, plus 1d10 for every spell slot higher than 1st (to a maximum of 5d10 bludgeoning damage). Additionally, the target must make a Strength saving throw or be restrained until the end of your next turn. A Huge or larger creature automatically succeeds on this saving throw. Attacks with this Craft do not use ammunition. : **Duplication.** *Prerequisite 7th level* You can magically conjure ammunition to barrage opponents with. When you are wielding a ranged weapon you're proficient with, you can use a bonus action and expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher to make a number of ranged spell attacks equal to the level of spell slot used (up to 4 attacks). You can direct the attacks at the same target or different ones, as long as they are within the normal range of your weapon. Each spell attack deals piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Wisdom modifier. Attacks with this Craft do not use ammunition. \page

**Expanded Senses.** As an action, you can expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher to gain the following effects for 1 hour, as well as all lower level effects: 1st: You can see normally in nonmagical darkness to a distance of 60 feet. 2nd: You gain tremorsense to a distance of 60 feet. 3rd: You gain blindsight to a distance of 60 feet. 4th: You gain truesight to a distance of 60 feet. : **Magic's Third Law.** When you make a ranged weapon attack, you can use a bonus action and expend a spell slot of 1st level or higher to launch yourself away from the target you attacked. You are pushed 10 feet away, plus an additonal 10 feet for every spell slot higher than 1st (to a maximum of 40 feet). This movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity. You can use this Craft regardless of whether you successfully hit the target or not. : **Second Chance.** *Prerequisite 7th level* As a reaction to making an attack roll, saving throw, or an ability check, you can expend a 1st level spell slot or higher to gain the following effects, as well as all lower level effects. You can choose to use this Craft after you roll the die, but before the outcome is determined. 1st: You gain an additional +2 bonus to the attack roll, ability check, or saving throw. 2nd: You gain an additional +3 bonus to the attack roll, ability check, or saving throw (for a total of +5). 3rd: You can roll an additional d20, and choose which of the d20s is used for the attack roll, ability check, or saving throw. : **Spectre Cutter.** As an action when you are wielding a ranged weapon you are proficient with, you can expend a 1st level spell slot or higher to loose an incorporeal sawblade that passes harmlessly through objects and ignores all cover. Each creature in a line 40 feet long and 5 feet wide in a direction you choose must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 2d10 slashing damage. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage. For each spell slot higher than 1st, the damage increases by 1d10 and the length of the line increases by 10 feet, to a maximum of 5d10 damage and a 70 foot line. Using this Craft does not use ammunition. \page

## Additional Spells : #### Seismic Railgun *3rd-level transmutation (Druid, Ranger)* **Casting Time:** 1 action **Range:** 120 feet **Components:** V, M (a coin) **Duration:** Instantaneous Choose a point you can see within range. You launch a projectile charged with thunderous energy, which speeds to the point and detonates. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, a creature is knocked prone and takes 3d12 thunder damage. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and is not knocked prone. Any creature within 5 feet of the impact point takes an additional 1d12 thunder damage. ***At Higher Levels:*** When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage is increased by 1d12 for each slot above level 3. : #### Lightning Whip *4th-level conjuration (Druid, Ranger, Sorcerer, Wizard)* **Casting Time:** 1 reaction, which you take when you see a creature within 60 feet of you take damage, be forcibly moved, or fall **Range:** 60 feet **Components:** V, S, M (a small length of charred rawhide) **Duration:** Instantaneous You can conjure a long strand of electricity to pull allies to safety. When a creature you can see within 60 feet of you takes damage, is forcibly moved, or fall, you can use your reaction to crack a whip of lightning and, if the creature is willing, pull them to an unoccupied space within 10 feet of you. This movement doesn't provoke attacks of opportunity. If the triggering effect was from an attack made by a creature within 5 feet of the target, that creature must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, sparks fly from the whip and shock it for 3d6 lightning damage. : #### Wild Power *5th-level evocation (Ranger)* **Casting Time:** 1 bonus action **Range:** Touch **Components:** V, S **Duration:** Concentration, up to 1 hour You imbue a weapon you touch with elemental power. Until the spell ends, weapon attacks made with the chosen weapon deal an extra 2d8 damage of either acid, cold, fire, lightning, or poison. The attacker can choose a different element for each attack. If the weapon isn't already a magic weapon, it becomes one for the duration. As a bonus action on your turn, you can dismiss this spell and cause the weapon to emit a burst of energy. Each creature of your choice within 30 feet of the weapon must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a creature takes 6d6 damage of the attacker's choice, and it is pushed 10 feet directly away from you and knocked prone. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and isn't moved or knocked prone. \page

## Notes : ##### Conclave Spells The Conclave spell list is mostly based on elemental effects with varied applications. *Create/Destroy Water* is useful out of combat, *Continual Flame* is nice flavor, *Thunder Step* is mobility in and out of combat, *Lightning Whip* is group support, and *Wild Power* is the big concentration self-buff. The first three are intentionally more niche, to counter the power/variety from the Crafts. ##### Ways of the Hunt Crafts I go into more detail below. Bonus cantrips for ribbons. ##### Elemental Echo Free *Absorb Elements*, but spelled out to avoid having players look it up, and me having to attach an additional rider saying the bonus damage can be used on ranged attacks as well. ##### Nova Arrow Originally it provided spell-slot free level 1 Crafts prof mod per day, but since a lot of Crafts had an effect at 1st level, with slot scaling to do more damage, it became easy to abuse Nova Arrow to do lots of repeat lockdowns for free. Changed to artifically boost spell levels. ##### Elemental Eruption Once-a-day large burst skill with various ranges/sizes. ##### Crafts Crafts, as a whole, are an additional way to burn your limited spell slots for either extra damage or utility. Overall, I like the concept of exploding elemental arrows, but I'm not 100% sure on overall balance. I've put limits on a number of things to prevent it from being too strong, but not sure yet. ##### Shots Designed as Smite-esque effects, but at range. There's the old arguement of OP-ness of allowing smites at range and whatnot, with the damage vs range safety and everything. Going by what Mike Mearls says [here](https://twitter.com/mikemearls/status/904496324598304768 "Twitter link"), I felt it was safe, but dropped the damage and added elemental effects per Shot. Compared to a paladin, this subclass has less burst and less overall damage, but more utility. While I kept the "only use the spell slot on a hit" feature to prevent slot-wastage, Shots do less damage, and most importantly require a bonus action to activate. Originally, it was "only 1 shot per turn," but forcing a bonus action use provides a more strict 1-per-turn limitation, and uses up your action economy (and dissuades hand-crossbow-expert-sharpshooter OP-ness.) Secondary effects last rounds equal to slot used to provide some effect scaling, as opposed to always upping the damage by a larger amount. *Ever Caustic* does good damage, but it can never crit and acts over several rounds, so you might burn a high level slot on a creature that dies quickly. *Fireburst Shot*, at 4th level works out to about the same AoE damage as 3rd level *Fireball*, and has the requirement of actually hitting an enemy first. Additionally, *Fireball* can be placed anywhere, strategically avoiding allies sometimes, while *Fireburst Shot* will always be centered on an enemy. *Frozen/Sundown/Sunrise Shot* are group utility Shots. *Sundown/Sunrise* are essentially single target *Bane/Bless*, respectively, but more limited in duration and saving throws to end them early. *Fury Shot* is straight damage with a level requirment to prevent early-campaign burst. *Jolt Shot* is a disarm. *Booming* is a simple knockback. *Infectious* is similar to *Chill Touch*, but can last more than 1 round if you want to burn the slots. *Fortifying* concerns me, in that it might provide too much temp HP. ##### Hikes Hikes are movement based utility. For limitations, all of them only last 1 minute and you can only have 1 active at a time. *Phase Walk* and *Free Step* have level requirements to prevent multiclass dips. *Quick Stroll* doesn't, since I wanted at least one Hike to be available at level 3, and this seemed the safest. *Phase Walk* allows traversal through objects, with more benefits as you expend better slots. Since usage of *Phase Walk* is limited solely by spell slots, I greatly increased the damage you would take for ending your turn inside an object to prevent hiding inside walls all the time during fights. *Free Step* is similar to *Freedom of Movement*. It only lasts between 1 minute (compared to 60 minutes), and can only be cast on yourself (compared to anyone). However, it can be used reactively (as opposed to requiring foresight) and also provides stun immunity. *Quick Stroll* is a pure movement buff. 2nd level is ripped from *Water Walkling*, 3rd from *Spider Climb*. The 4th level is comparable to *Far Step*. While that is 5th level with concentration, it's a teleport + whatever movement speed you have, while this is just teleport in place of movement. \page

##### Techniques Techniques are classified as 'misc'. *Second Chance* is a little bonus at 1st and 2nd level, and *Lucky* at 3rd, with a level prerequisite since this can be multiclass-abused. *Expanded Senses* can provide darkvision to races without it at 1st level, with more senses for more spell slots. *Spectre Cutter* provides a cover-ignoring line attack. *Duplication* allows lots of attacks in a short time, but they are specifically spell attacks to avoid Sharpshooter shenanigans. *Bola* is a single target burst attack with a restrain attached. *Magic's Third Law* is a self pushback. ## Spells *Seismic Railgun* is pretty straightfoward. *Lightning Whip* is a friendly-focused spell. I like the concept of the bonus damage, and definately the no OA rider, but it might be too strong. *Wild Power* drops the light from *Holy Weapon* to add changing elemental damage (once again dropping thunder to prevent it from being the go-to choice). The burst effect switches from a no-concentration blind with 30ft range to a 10ft knockback/prone, just to swap it up a bit. :::::::::::::::::: ## Notes Summary : ##### Conclave draws: Ranged damage bonus/effects from Shots, and the utility from Hikes/Techniques. ##### Conclave drawbacks: More convoluted action economy due to Shots needing a bonus action; very easy to burn through your spell slots; more MAD due to a higher demand for Wisdom for more uses of subclass abilities, and to increase your spell save DC for Shots to be effective ##### Possible changes: - Damage/mechanical changes for all Crafts :::::: ### Change Log ##### 1.0 -> 1.3 - Tweaked spell list. - Added multiple Crafts - Changed Nova Arrow from free Crafts per long rest to additional power per long rest.
