## Canii Fierce, loyal, and cunning, Canis hail from the distant and secluded areas of the world, believed to be the youngest of humanoid races. Late to the world scene, individual Canii strive to prove their worth amongst themselves and the outside world, and learn from the great empires and rich cultures around them. Canis empires and clans are built to last, ever adapting to their envirornments and taking in what ideas they see can improve themselves. Canis can be found amongst their tribes and families, rarely breaking away to join adventuruing parties or guilds where they develop close bonds with others. Many may first mistake a Canii as a werewolf or magical beast, only to find a loyal and longlasting companion. A Canii will aim to avoid dissapointing those they respect above all else. ### Distinct & Diverse With a penchant for migration and conquest similar to humans, Canis appear to have been molded by their envirornments, providing more physical diversity than other humanoid races. While they commonly share one of several lineages, none are a common link amongst themselves. Their fur can range from short and fine, to long and coarse, having one or two layers. This fur can range from greyscale colors, to hues of brown, yellow, and red. A Canii stands in at slightly under 5 feet to over 6 feet tall, weighing anywhere from 110 to 280 pounds. Canis mature similarly to humans, reaching adulthood in their early teens and can live up to over a century. ``` ```

### Variety in Collectives Despite their similar adaptability to humans, Canis strongly link their ambitions to their clan or community, developing varying morals and customs as a standard to uphold. Canis owe their devotion and respect to their clan, each conducting themselves and serving the clan however possible to bring success and honor. Each Canii's conduct reflects on their individual honor, with the dishonorable amongst their clan resulting in expulsion and exile. Canis continually drive for self-improvement and the success of their clans, valuing skill and excellence in all they do. They hate to fail or dissapoint, pushing themselves to find success in some aspect. Other races who share strong commitments to skill and groups will find success in earning the respect of a Canii and their tribe, seeking help if necessary. A Canii will either live a nomadic lifestyle or settle down with their tribe, staying put if they do settle. They avoid creating cities, rather building villages and towns that last for as long as required. An individual Canii may have a short lifespan, but their clans and families preserve their cultures and traditions far beyond the reach of any single Canii's memory. They look the the future and live in the present, striving to maintain thier collective legacy.

\page ### Canii Traits The following options allow you to create a Canii based on their lineage and envirornment. **Ability Score Increase.** Increase an ability score of your choice by 1. You cannot increase the same ability score given by your selected subrace. **Age.** Canii have lifespans equivalent to humans. **Alignment.** Canis tend towards lawful and neuteral alignments, as they let loyalty and morality guide thier decisions. **Size.** Canis are on average taller or on par with humans. Your size is Medium. **Speed.** Your base walking speed is 30 ft. **Bite.** Your fanged maw is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. **Darkvision** You have a canine's keen senses, especially in the dark. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray. **Languages.** You can speak, read and write Common and one other language of your choice. **Subraces.** Canis are divided amongst the lineages they belong to: Wulfrun, Jalareus, Coyoskii, and Venkai. #### Wulfrun Wulfrun originate from a warrior culture of conquering and hard labor. Thier dominant nature results in thriving presence amongst forested coastlines, mountains, inland wetlands, and tundras of the world, emulating the lives of their gods through their crafts and battles. Brave wulfrun go abroad to do battle against percieved chaotic and dangerous forces, striking down their foes with their strenght and agilitly. **Ability Score Increase.** Your Strength score increases by 2. **Adept Warriors.** You gain proficiency with two of the following skills of your choice: Athletics, Perception, Stealth, and Survival. **Agile Hunters.** Your reflexes and agility allow you to move with a burst of speed. When you move on your turn in combat, you can double your speed until the end of the turn. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you move 0 feet on one of your turns. **Wulfrun Names.** (Male) Eerikki, Garth, Halvor, Loki, Raoul, Sten, Ulf; (Female) Asta, Brenna, Eira, Freyja, Runa, Ylva; (Surnames) Arnesen, Feldt, Kjeldsen, Lundgren, Ostergard, Rundstrom, Strond; #### Jalareus Jalareus come from a long-standing desert cultures of preists, mages, and craftsmen/workers. They are commonly seen as clerics and desert-based druids, fending off the undead and tending to their surroundings. These talents allow them to thrive where most races cannot, making small kingdoms and monuments amongst the dunes. Jalareus commonly tie themselves to their homelands and gladly share their knowledge with others, being seen as fierce defenders, keen allies, and teachers. ```

**Ability Score Increase.** Your Wisdom score increases by 2. **Detect Undead.** As an action, you can detect if there are undead within 30 feet of you, as well as where the creature is located. Similarly, you know if there is a place or object within 30 feet of you that has been magically consecrated or desecrated by necromancy magic. This sense can penetrate most barriers, but it is blocked by 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest. **Wise Sages.** You have proficiency in the Arcana and History skills. **Jalareus Weapon Training.** You have proficiency with the khopesh (treat as a longsword), spear, and javelin. **Jalareus Names.** (Male) Ammon, Kamuzu, Masud, Osiris, Pilis, Sef, Rameses; (Female) Chione, Edrice, Feme, Jomana, Nefret, Nephthys, Tiye; (Surnames) Ashraf, Elmahdy, Gamal, Nimr, Salib, Tammam, Zaher;

##### Variant: Khenra If you wish to play a Jarareus that is less wisdom focused or less opposed to necromancy and undeath, the Khenra race from Plane Shift: Amonkhet serves as an excellent substitute. **Source:** DnD 5e - Plane Shift: Amonkhet

\page #### Coyoskii Coyoskii come from a wild and mixed culture of tricksters, cunning spellcasters, and craftsmen. They are an incredibly adaptable lineage, often settling in places of agricultural and animal husbandry potential. Coyoskii are the most self-sufficient of these lineages, preferring to toy with their enemies and guests rather then integrate, even to disuade other races from their territories. **Ability Score Increase.** Your Charisma score increases by 2. **Adaptable Tricksters.** You know the Prestidigitation cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Disguise Self spell once as a 2nd-level spell. Once you reach 5th level, you can also cast the Alter Self spell once. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells again with this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells. **Coyoskii Names.** (Male) Ashkii, Bidziil, Citali, Cochise, Malik, Shikoba, Yolotl; (Female) Ayelen, Iara, Jacira, Naria, Nita, Rayen, Saqui; (Surnames) Bitsuie, Cly, Hatathli, Lightfoot, Maskwa, Tsosie, Yupanqui; ``` ``` #### Venkai Venkai come from an mostly unknown culture, being known as tricksters, troublemakers, and inventors. Venkai can be be mischevious or malevolent depending on their motives and value, but prefer to live closely with other humanoid races rather then live in seclusion. They often take on humanoid forms to better integrate or blend in, willing to seduce and confuse others, sometimes even attempting humiliating the prideful. Despite their trickster nature, venkai are willing to form close bonds, developing faithful relationships as guardians, lovers, and friends to most races. **Ability Score Increase.** Your Intelligence score increases by 2. **Wise Illusionists.** You know the Minor Illusions cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Disguise Self spell once as a 2nd-level spell. Once you reach 5th level, you can also cast the Invisibility spell once. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells again with this trait. Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for these spells. **Venkai Names.** (Male) Akira, Haruki, Katashi, Kei, Masaru, Rikuto, Shin; (Female) Airi, Etsuko, Jun, Kaori, Mari, Rin, Yui; (Surnames) Arima, Hayashi, Inoue, Katou, Moto, Okamoto, Yoshida;

Stories tell of men and women afflicted with the curse of Lycanthropy. Accursed beings who would lose themselves in twisted amalgamations of humanoids and the great beasts of the world. Many succumbed to the feral madness these forms introduced to their minds, while those lucky enough would seek a cure. However, there were some who sought to embrace this curse, harness its potential. Many believe this is what lead to the creation of Canidfolk, but these are mere myths and legends to explain their strange occurance in our world.

## Rare Canii While most, if not all Canis are considered very uncommon or rare to find outside of their secluded native lands, there are some that would be considered myths or legends until one sees them in their presence. These Canis are few and far between amongst their kinds, too small in number to make their own kingdoms, or hail from the distant beyonds of the outer planes. Unlike regular Canis, these variants show lineages of monstourous beasts, inlcuding the Dire Wolf, Winter Wolf, and Hellhounds. These Canis have significantly different reactions from the public and their kind, and can behave quite differently in culture, values, and alighnment.

\page #### Dire Wulfrun While rare, some wulfrun inherit the lineage of a dire wolf. These gifted few stand tall, hulking in comparison to other Wulfrun. They are not always seen as higher status compared to other wulfrun, but are considered to be a great gift or boon to the clan, earning great status from their feats and skills. This supposed gift comes at a cost though, as others quickly judge a dire's faults, leaving stricter and harsher expectations and punishments if they fail. This is likely also because dire wulfrun are capable of replacing two or more wulfrun for the same task. **Ability Score Increase.** Your Constitution score increases by 2. **Powerful Build.** You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift. **The Bigger They Are.** When you score a critical hit with a melee weapon attack, you can roll one of the weapon's damage dice one additional time and add it to the extra damage of the critical hit. **Dire Wulfrun Names.** Direfolk share common names with Wolfkin, but have been known to recieve unuique names of legend. ``` ``` #### Helfrun Helfrun come from the infernal planes of the outer realms, often knwon for their unwavering faith and loyalty of infernal lords or other gods with commanding presence. Helfrun culture is tied to maintaining fierce loyalty to the pack and clan, as well as complete submission under their leader or god. Almost all Helfrun are lawful ordered, and are aclimated to unbearably hot, dessolate, and/or unhospitable regions. In order to sustain living in these envirornments though, they are not shy of raiding and pillaging resources from others. **Ability Score Increase.** Your Strength score increases by 2. **Breath Weapon.** You can use your action to exhale hellish fury on your foes. It deals damage in a 15' cone, and all creatures in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw with a DC equal to 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 fire damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increase to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th, and 5d6 at 16th level. After using your breath weapon, you cannot use it again until you complete a short or long rest. **Scorching Bite.** Your bite attacks deal fire damage instead of piercing. **Hellish Resistance.** You have resistance to fire damage. **Helfrun Names.** (Male) Damakos, Kairon, Melech, Mordai, Zarek; (Female) Ea, Kallista, Makaria, Orianna, Tiae; (Virtues) Bane, Blessing, Glory, Faith, Torment; #### Winter Wulfrun Similar to their Wulfrun brethren, Winter Wulfren originate from a warrior culture of conquering and hard labor. However, their smaller numbers means they stay in the brutally cold regions that regular Wulfrun would rather avoid. Winter Wulfrun rely on their wits and raw strength to overpower and outdo their foes, striking down their percieved foes (or prey) without hesitation. They are known to be extremely territorial, and anyone lucky enough to speak on nonhostile terms often learn just how unforgiving and strict their kind are. Unlike Helfren, they tend to avoid actively pillaging and raiding others, but instead aim for complete self reliance and seclusion from most other beings. **Ability Score Increase.** Your Strength score increases by 2. **Breath Weapon.** You can use your action to exhale freezing wind at your foes. It deals damage in a 15' cone, and all creatures in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw with a DC equal to 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 cold damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increase to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th, and 5d6 at 16th level. After using your breath weapon, you cannot use it again until you complete a short or long rest. **Snow Camouflage.** You have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide in snowy terrain. **Winter Resiliance.** You have resistance to cold damage. **Helfrun Names.** (Male) Damakos, Kairon, Melech, Mordai, Zarek; (Female) Ea, Kallista, Makaria, Orianna, Tiae; (Virtues) Bane, Blessing, Glory, Faith, Torment;
