# Praetor

A female dhampir, confronted by two paladins draws her halberd and, as she does, profane sigils illuminate in the air around the weapon. She dodges one of the paladin’s impatient attacks and punishes them with a strike of her own, their wound erupting into a blasphemous flame, sending the paladin sprawling to the ground screaming. The second paladin becomes less enthusiastic about the fight after noticing black ichor bleed from the corner of her mouth and eyes filled with *wrath*. An elven royal in ornate armor strides calmly through a forest glade, smirking with *pride* as he subtly grips his sheathed blade. He closes his eyes as brigands leap from the surrounding brush. Before they can even shout their demands, the man snaps his fingers, and a wave of mist passes through his attackers. Each brigand in unison drops to one knee, motionless, eyes wide in panic. With a smile, the elven man slowly unsheathes his blade, relishing the anticipation of the impending slaughter. The Queen Regent sits back in her plush seat as she enjoys the *lust*-filled dance of a gorgeous tiefling woman. Words of passions pass between the two as the dance comes to a finish. Within moments, they embrace fiercely. Hands upon hands, skin upon skin, the two intertwine. As they share a passionate kiss, the tiefling dancer smiles and strikes her quarry. A knife to the head, killing the Queen Regent instantly. The dancer stands above her prey, breathing in dark magic. Her lungs and body are filled with power and its taint coating her soul. She breathes out and sickly black flames envelope the dead body. ### Dark Channelers Known by many names throughout the multiverse, those who've taken it upon themselves to harbor the darker side of life and magic are called Praetors. These forsaken knights dedicate their lives and very existence to harnessing profane abilities and wicked sorcery. Though they may never glimpse paradise and are tragically altered in the process, Praetors gain both martial and magical mastery in return. Imbuing their weapons, spells, and selves with foulness, they willingly carve their way towards perdition. ### Avatars of Sin As they draw corruption from a tainted magical source, their sins and vices manifest and amplify. For example, a hint of pride can transform a creature into an overwhelming tyrant, while a simple penny pincher becomes a greedy monster. A vicious cycle emerges as their personalities and thoughts are slowly eroded by corruption, making their sins increasingly dominant. This, in turn, destroys any inhibitions and drives these poor souls to channel even greater amounts of foul magic. \page

``` ``` ### Accursed Knights Praetors are rare and shunned, requiring a unique talent to master their arts without losing themselves. Adventurers are already uncommon, but Praetors are rarer still, as few survive the process and live to tell the tale. Like an explosion, they are bright, beautiful, and terrible for a single moment, bringing profound and dreadful change to those around them. Not all Praetors are alike, and few would dare consider another an ally. By their very nature, they are the damned and harbingers of calamity. As consumers of corruption, they inevitably bring out the worst in themselves and humanity. ### Foul Magic Praetors are always prepared to draw in corruption for their survival. Some may revel in the depravity as they absorb corruption, while others may despise it, viewing it as their ultimate duty to the multiverse. Regardless of the source of their conviction and corruption, they are never the same once they embark on this path. #### Source of Corruption All praetors draw their powers and corruption from an outside source. Certain origins empower certain sins in an individual as well giving them a source to curse and hate with all their might. ##### Sources of Corruption | d6 | Origin | |:---:|:---------| | 1 | You come from a people of profane origin. Forever shackled for stealing and channeling a deity's unfiltered divine power. | | 2 | Wild magic needs to be periodically cleansed of corruption, you were willingly (or unwillingly) tasked to be its next cleanser. | | 3 | A long dead deity is your source of power, the threads of their magic are decaying. | | 4 | A mad patron bestowed magic upon you but it's fragmented source brought out the worst in you.| | 5 | Through research you've found a way to make a connection with an unfathomable being and can now channel a portion of its soul altering magic. | | 6 | You channel the inherant magic of the Abyss or Nine Hells. | ### Creating a Praetor Those who pursue life as a Praetor often give up everything in the name of a goal. What motivates your Praetor? Have you always had an unquenchable thirst for dark knowledge and skill, and taken upon yourself to harness forgotten dead magic? Was one of your loved ones slain by an evil magic, setting you on a path of revenge? Or, do you simply desire to gain skill no matter the cost on one's soul? Moreover, consider why your Praetor has chosen to pursue a life of adventure. Have you been charged by an order to achieve a specific goal? Do you desire to test your spells and martial skills against those who see themselves as masters of magic? Or, have you been pressed into an adventure out of a sense of duty? \page

### Quick Build You can make a praetor quickly by following these suggestions. First, make Strength or Dexterity your highest ability score, following with Wisdom. Second, take the Inheritor background. ## Class Features As a Praetor, you gain the following class features. #### Hit Points ___ - **Hit Dice:** 1d10 per praetor level - **Hit Points at 1st Level:** 10 + your Constitution modifier - **Hit Points at Higher Levels:** 1d10 (or 6) + your Constitution modifier per praetor level after 1st #### Proficiencies ___ - **Armor:** All armor, shields - **Weapons:** Simple weapons, martial weapons - **Languages:** Choose one from Abyssal, Deep Speech, Celestial, and Infernal - **Saving Throws:** Strength, Wisdom - **Skills:** Choose two from Acrobatics, Arcana, Athletics, History, Insight, Investigation, Religion, and Perception #### Equipment You start with the following equipment, in addition to the equipment granted by your background: - (a) martial weapon and shield or (b) two martial weapons - (a) scale mail or (b) leather armor - (a) a light crossbow and 20 bolts or (b) five javelins - (a) a dungeoneer’s pack or (b) a priest's pack - A conduit strand representing the source of your corrupted magic Alternatively, you can ignore the equipment here and in your background, and buy 5d4 × 10gp worth of equipment from Chapter 5 of the Player's Handbook. ### Cardinal Sin Starting at 1st level, you choose a Cardinal Sin that has been your burden to bear and a source of strength: Lust, Gluttony, Wrath, Despair, Envy, Sloth, Greed, Pride. Your choice grants you features at 1st level and again at 3rd, 7th, and 15th level. Your choice also determines your spell list and forbids a school of magic to be cast. \page

#### Sin Spells Each Cardinal Sin has a list of Cardinal Spells that you learn at the Praetor levels noted in your Cardinal Sin's description. These Cardinal Spells count as Praetor spells for you, but they do not count against your total number of Praetor Spells Prepared. #### Sin Difficulty Checks Some Sin Feature effects require saving throws. When you use such an effect from this class, the DC equals your Praetor spell save DC. #### Favored School of Magic Each Cardinal Sin excels at a school of magic to be cast. Certain features give additional benefits when a spell from the Sin's favored school of magic is cast. #### Forbidden School of Magic Each Cardinal Sin forbids a school of magic to be cast or prepared. Whenever you cast a forbidden school of magic, roll on the Short-Term Madness table *(pg.259 in the DMG)*. ### Vice & Virtue At 1st level, your sins take on a physical form of your choosing. These manifestations are shards of potent power and intense emotions. You innately start with two such slivers: the *Sliver of Apostasy* and a sliver determined by your Cardinal Sin. During a long rest, choose a vice and virtue from any innate or attuned slivers. They do not need to be from the same sliver. You gain the chosen vice and virtue effects alongside a compulsion to express that emotion. ***Additional Slivers.*** During your travels you may come across other slivers. So long as you are attuned to the additional sliver, you may choose its vice or virtue during a long rest. #### Sliver of Apostasy The sliver of unrestrained freedom and thought has given you the following benefits. ***Vice.*** When chosen, whenever you damage a creature that is concentrating on a spell, that creature has disadvantage on the saving throw it makes to maintain its concentration. ***Virtue.*** When chosen, you have advantage on concentration checks. ``` ```

### Spellcasting Starting at 2nd level, you gain the ability to cast 1st level spells and higher. See chapter 10 of the Player’s Handbook for the general rules of spellcasting. #### Cantrips At 2nd level, you know one additional cantrip of your choice from the praetor spell list. You learn additional praetor cantrips of your choice at higher levels, as shown in the Cantrips Known column of the Praetor table. #### Preparing and Casting Spells The Praetor table shows how many spell slots you have to cast your praetor spells. To cast one of your praetor spells of 1st-level or higher, you must expend a slot of the spell's level or higher. You regain all expended spell slots when you finish a long rest. You prepare the list of praetor spells that are available for you to cast, choosing from the praetor spell list. When you do so, choose a number of praetor spells equal to your Wisdom modifier + half your praetor's level, rounded down (minimum of one spell). The spells must be of a level for which you have spell slots. For example, if you are a 5th-level praetor, you have four 1st-level and two 2nd-level spell slots. With a Wisdom of 14, your list of prepared spells can include four spells of 1st or 2nd level, in any combination. If you prepare the 1st-level spell Command, you can cast it using a 1st-level or a 2nd-level slot. Casting the spell doesn't remove it from your list of prepared spells. You can change your list of prepared spells when you finish a long rest. Preparing a new list of praetor spells requires time spent channeling and meditation: at least 1 minute per spell level for each spell on your list. #### Spellcasting Ability As you channel your spells from a tainted source, Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for your Praetor spells. You use your Wisdom when a spell refers to your spellcasting ability, when you set a saving throw DC, or when you make a spell attack roll.

#### Bladecasting Focus
You can use a conduit strand, or any magical weapon with which you are proficient, as a Spellcasting Focus for your Praetor spells. Also, you can perform the somatic components of spells even while you hold a weapon or shield in both hands

### Corruption Addtionally at 2nd level, your source of magic holds great power and befouled corruption. You've learned how to endure and embrace the filth. Whenever you expend a spell slot to cast a 1st-level spell or higher, you gain a corruption charge. Moreover, you gain a number of charges equal to half your class level (rounded down) at the end of a long rest and any charges above that amount are lost at the start of a long rest. Finally, any corruption charges gained can not be used on the spell it was created from. You may expend these charges for any of the following abilities below. #### Infliction You can expend any number of charges up to your Wisdom modifier when you successfully hit with a weapon attack to deal an extra 2d4 necrotic damage per charge expended. #### Blasphemy As a bonus action, you can expend any number of charges up to your Wisdom modifier to gain 2d4 temporary hit points per charge expended. #### Sacrosight As an action, expend a corruption charge to corrupt your vision. You can now see normally in darkness, both magical and nonmagical, to a distance of 120ft. for 10 minutes. #### Perversion You may expend one corruption charge to add your Wisdom modifier to a Strength or Dexterity ability check. #### Excommunication As a bonus action, you may expend a corruption charge to teleport up to an amount of feet equal to your Wisdom modifier x 5. It must be an unoccupied space you can see. ### Extra Attack Beginning at 5th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn. ### Martial Incarnum Starting at 6th level, before you make an attack with a weapon that you are proficient with, you can choose to take a -5 penalty to the attack roll. If the attack hits, the next spell you cast that requires an action now only requires a bonus action to cast. This benefit lasts until the end of your turn. ``` ``` ### Profane Body At 9th level, the corruption that has permeated your body inflicted unimaginable damage, yet you now possess the resilience to withstand it and other forms of darker magic. You are now immune to curses, such as the *hex* and *bestow curse* spells. Additionally, your hitpoint maximum can no longer be reduced, you are immune to being possessed against your will, and when you touch or attune to a cursed object, its curse does not affect you. ### Impulse At 10th level, your corruption has begun to embolden your mind and body, urging you to draw strength past your limits. Whenever you miss an attack, fail a saving throw, or are hit by an attack, as a reaction, you may expend a hit dice to add your Wisdom modifier to your failed roll or AC, potentially changing the outcome in your favor. This benefit lasts until the start of your next turn. ### Fell Strike Beginning at 11th level, you now gain advantage on attack rolls against creatures suffering from a condition. ### Dark Salvation Starting at 14th level, when your mind and body falters, your corruption will take its place, staving off oblivion. You can no longer be knocked unconscious when at 0 hit points. You must still make death saving throws but no longer suffer the normal effects of taking damage while at 0 hit points. Upon three successes you regain one hitpoint and upon three failures your body is reduced to ash. ### Final Judgement Upon reaching 18th level, your sins have ultimately led you towards eternal damnation or righteous absolution. Choose either benefit from below: ***Damnation***: Choose one 6th level spell from any spell list of your choice. You can cast this spell once without expending a spell slot once per long rest. At 20th level, choose one 7th level spell from any spell list of your choice. You can cast this spell once without expending a spell slot once per long rest. ***Absolution***: At 18th level, the number of attacks you can make when you use the Attack action is now three. At 20th level, whenever you roll initiative and have no hit dice remaining, you regain three hit dice.

## The Cardinal Sins Choose one of the following Cardinal Sins to represent your wickedness made manifest or one that you've decided to harbor for the good of all: Lust, Gluttony, Wrath, Despair, Envy, Sloth, Greed, or Pride. ### Lust Few sins are as destructive as lust. Men, women, and those that lie betwixt have started wars and caused untold death for the favor of one or the other. Those who've only known loneliness and desire a companion or friend are breeding grounds for this sin. It is when those innocent desires are corrupted is when Lust is born. Praetors of Lust, wield other's hearts, either for good or ill. #### Lust Spells You learn cardinal sin spells at the Praetor level listed in the Lust Spells table. - ***Favored School of Magic***: Enchantment - ***Forbidden School of Magic***: Necromancy #### Temptation When lust becomes too much to bear at 1st level, you learn the *Mind Sliver* cantrip. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this cantrip.

#### Sliver of Lust Also at 1st level, you gain a sliver and its possible benefits: ***Vice.*** When chosen, whenever you make a successful weapon attack, the target can not benefit from advantage against being charmed until the start of your next turn. ***Virtue.*** When chosen, you may add your Wisdom modifier when making any Charisma ability checks. #### Heartbreaker Starting at 3rd level, the sin of lust has intermingled with your magic. Whenever you deal damage with a spell, it no longer breaks the charm condition on a creature. #### Desire Also at 3rd level, whenever you cast an enchantment spell, you may expend a corruption charge to corrupt it and ignore the verbal or somatic components (but not both.) The remaining component should be a flirtatious gesture, such as a kiss or flattering words. #### Paramour At 7th level, as a reaction, whenever you and a charmed creature can see each other and it begins to make an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you can give them advantage or disadvantage on that roll. #### Everlasting Desire Upon reaching 15th level, whenever a creature successfully saves against a spell that was corrupted by the *Desire* Feature, it must make that spell's saving throw again at the start of its next turn with advantage to fully resist your lingering magic and temptations. On a failure, it is effected by the spell again and its effects normally, as if you had casted it again, regaining its duration and concentration if required. When a creature makes this saving throw it becomes immune to this feature for the next 24 hours regardless of success or failure.

### Gluttony A deep desire to experience the multiverse and everything it has to offer can be warped into something unrecogniziable. The insitable desire to consume life comes in the form of Gluttony. Praetors of this particular Sin, have pushed past the want of life into the domain of death, where their ever increasing hunger waits for their next and newest fancy. #### Gluttony Spells You learn cardinal sin spells at the Praetor level listed in the Gluttony Spells table. See the Cardinal Sin class feature for how sin spells work.

- ***Favored School of Magic***: Necromancy - ***Forbidden School of Magic***: Enchantment #### Craving When gluttony becomes too much to bear at 1st level, you learn the *Ravenous Maw* cantrip. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this cantrip. #### Sliver of Gluttony Also at 1st level, you gain a sliver and its possible benefits: ***Vice.*** When chosen, whenever you make a successful weapon attack, the target can’t regain hit points until the start of your next turn. ***Virtue.*** When chosen, whenever you regain any hitpoints, you gain advantage on the next roll you make (your choice) before the end of your next turn. #### Feast At 3rd level, whenever a hostile creature within 30ft. of you is reduced to 0 hit points, you gain a number of temporary hitpoints equal to 1d6 plus your proficiency bonus. #### Famine At 3rd level, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of the attacks with a use of this feature. You envelope the area around you with gluttonous corruption, siphoning all life energy. Creatures of your choice within 10ft. of you must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or take necrotic damage equal to 2d6 + your praetor class level. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage. Once you have used this feature once, you regain the ability to use this feature if a hostile creature is reduced to 0 hit points within 30ft. of you, or upon completing a long rest. ``` ``` #### Starvation At 7th level, your insatiable appetite knows no limits, eager to consume every fragment of existence within reach. Whenever you cast a necromancy spell or use your *Feast* ability, you may expend a corruption charge to corrupt it and double the range of that spell or ability. If a spell has a range of touch, it is now 30ft. instead. #### Devour Starting at 15th level, whenever you deal damage with a spell or ability that has been corrupted by *Starvation* and a creature would be brought to an amount of hitpoints equal to your praetor level or lower, they are now instantly slain.

### Wrath A want of power and protection can be found in all things lesser. To protect oneself and those around can be twisted into an unfathomable beast of destruction. Praetors of Wrath, focus their raw destructive power of magic and delight in channeling those destructive forces in awesome displays with little regard to others or themselves. #### Wrath Spells You learn cardinal sin spells at the Praetor level listed in the Wrath Spells table. - ***Favored School of Magic***: Evocation - ***Forbidden School of Magic***: Abjuration ``` ``` #### Spark of Anger When wrath becomes too much to bear at 1st level, you learn the *Fire Bolt* cantrip. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this cantrip. #### Sliver of Wrath Also at 1st level, you gain a sliver and its possible benefits: ***Vice.*** When chosen, whenever you roll a 1 on a damage die for an attack you make with a weapon, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll. ***Virtue.*** When chosen, you deal double damage against objects and structures. #### Cascade At 3rd level, whenever you are about to roll damage, choose from: fire, cold, acid, thunder, or lightning. If you roll the maximum amount on a damage die, you now add an additional 1d4 of the chosen damage type. This ability can trigger multiple times up to your Wisdom modifier per turn. Any additional damage die gained from this ability can also trigger Cascade. Cascade's damage dice is increased to 2d4 at 15th level. #### Maelstrom At 7th level, whenever you trigger *Cascade*, you may forgo the damage die you'd gain to instead inflict an effect based on the damage type you chose. The additional benefits are shown in the table below. Once chosen, the target may only be affected by the chosen effect, lasting until the start of your next turn.

#### Calamity Upon reaching 15th level, whenever you cast an evocation spell, you may expend four corruption charges to corrupt it. The corrupted spell's now ignores any resistances or immunities to the damage types dealt. Moreover, creatures damaged by this spell, can no longer benefit from its immunities or resistances against that damage type until the start of your next turn. >##### Shocked Condition While Shocked, a creature experiences the following effect: ***Limited Activity***. You can Move or take one Action on your turn, not both. You also can’t take a Bonus Action or a Reaction.

They have glimpsed a terrible end that has or will bring themselves and others great misery. At 15th level, the range of Ambition is increased to 30ft.

#### Resentment At 7th level, whenever you attack a creature, object, or area that has a spell that would be effected by *dispel magic*, you may expend an amount of corruption charges equal to two plus one per spell level higher than 1st level to dispel it. #### Obsession Upon reaching 15th level, whenever a creature you can see casts a spell, you can use your reaction to expend the required spell slot to copy that spell and cast it. The copied spell uses your spellcasting ability, and acts as if you had cast it normally. Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

The chosen creatures now roll their initiatives with disadvantage. #### Lull At 7th level, you learn the *catnap* spell and can cast it without expending a spell slot once per short or long rest. Morever, whenever you are targeted by this spell, you regain any expended usages of the Atrophy feature. #### Stagnation Finally at 15th level, creatures effected by Drowsy, must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failure, they are now under the effects of the *slow* spell until the end of their first turn.

Once the target has seen you, the spell ends. #### Skyfire Barrage *5th-level evocation* ___ - **Casting Time:** 1 action - **Range:** Self - **Components:** V, S - **Duration:** Concentration, up to 1 minute You ascend into the sky on a trail of fire and gain a flying speed of 60 ft for the duration of the spell which also allows you to hover. You also gain 5 orbs of fire that float around you for the duration of the spell. On your turn, you can use a bonus to launch one of these orbs at a point within 120ft. Each creature within 10ft. of the point must make a dexterity saving throw or take 4d8 fire damage or half as much on a successful save. The spell ends at the end of your next turn after you have fired your last orb ***At Higher Levels:*** When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, you increase the damage of each orb by 1d8 per slot level above 5th. You also gain an additional orb when you cast this spell at 7th level, and another when you cast it at 9th. #### Vorpal Blade *5th-level transmutation* ___ - **Casting Time:** 1 action - **Range:** Touch - **Components:** V, S, M (the finger bone of a necromancer) - **Duration:** Instantaneous You conjure a blade of pure negative energy in your empty hand and make a melee spell attack against a creature within your reach, attempting to behead it. On hit, the creature takes slashing damage equal to 6d8 + your spellcasting modifier. If this damage reduces the creature to 50 hit points or fewer, you instantly cut off one of its heads of your choice The creature instantly dies if it cannot survive without the lost head. The creature's head is not removed if it is immune to slashing damage, or if it doesn't have or need a head. ``` ``` #### Wings of Night *5th-level Illusion* ___ - **Casting Time:** 1 action - **Range:** Self - **Components:** V, S, - **Duration:** Concentration, up to 1 hour You call forth large wings of mist, smoke, and shadow that attach to your back and heed your commands, granting you a flying speed of 60ft. and lightly obscuring you. As an action while you have these wings, you can choose to unleash the power trapped within them, ending the spell and releasing a wave of nightmarish energy. Creatures within 30 ft. of you must make a Charisma saving throw. If they fail, they take 6d10 psychic damage and become frightened of you until the end of your next turn. If they succeed, they take half as much damage and are not frightened.

>##### Conduit Strand Type: Conduit Strand Cost: -- Weight: -- - A conduit strand is a special item - a fraying thread of the Weave, a fractured crystal, a broken focus, desecrated religious symbol, tainted catalyst - designed or manifested to channel the power of a corrupted source of divine and arcane magic. A praetor can use such an object as a spellcasting focus. #### Infested Cultist’s Skull *Wondrous item, uncommon* This humanoid skull is infested by a parasitic purple plant from an unknown plane. The longer you stare, the more you could swear that the petals sway in response to an unseen wind. The skull contains 7 petals. While holding it, you can use an action to pluck a petal to cast the guiding bolt spell (+5 to hit), dealing necrotic damage instead of radiant. The skull regrows 1d4 plucked petals daily at dawn. If you pluck the last petal, the skull crumbles to dust and is destroyed. ***Curse.*** This skull is cursed, and plucking 3 or more petals in a day extends this curse to you. Until the curse is broken with remove curse or similar magic, you are unwilling to part with the skull, keeping it within reach at all times. While cursed, whenever you finish a long rest, a black petal grows on your head. These black petals cannot be removed physically, and any attempt to do so causes you to take 2d6 necrotic damage. If you travel to a different plane while cursed, you grow a further 1d4 black petals. When the seventh petal has grown on your skull, you die and your body turns to dust, except your skull which becomes a new infested cultist skull. If the curse is removed, the petals on your head and the infested cultist skull are destroyed and crumble to dust.

#### Duskblade *Weapon (longsword, shortsword), very rare (requires attunement)* This ancient slender blade has been lost from the annals of history for many centuries, yet still retains a razor-sharp edge within the sheath. It cannot be drawn in the daylight, but under the cover of darkness one can see silver runes etched on the black blade. Duskblade cannot be drawn while in any source of bright light. While in bright light, it has a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls, dealing bludgeoning damage instead of its normal weapon damage when used. Whilst in dim light or darkness, you are able to draw the blade for it’s intended purpose. The damage bonus increases to +2 and you deal an additional 2d8 necrotic damage on a hit. Additionally the weapon gains the *reach* property as it strikes smear blackness across reality. When you attack from more than 5 ft. away with this weapon, this weapon's damage becomes necrotic only. Finally, you are granted darkvision out to 60ft. If you already have darkvision, it instead allows you to see through magical darkness. ***Curse.*** Duskblade is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. If you are exposed to bright light while the blade is out, you must roll a DC 12 Constitution saving throw. Every time you succeed, the DC increases by 2. On a failure, you take a level of exhaustion as the blade saps your vitality and the DC resets to 12. You can choose to succeed by expending a corruption charge, however the DC will still increase.

# Slivers - Items ## Preface Slivers are pure raw emotion imbued into an item, magical item, or more often than not, crystalized shards of corruption. Manifesting only when a creature ruled by its strongest emotion, vice, or ideals meets its death. In the following pages will include a sample of slivers based on the Cardinal Sins, lesser known sins, the Heavenly Virtues, and the Cosmic Ideals Slivers are limitless in potential and variety, so if there is a particular sliver of emotion you'd like to embody one day, work with your DM to craft one that is of similar power to the ones below. ##### Optional: Accursed Magical Items Another possibility for a sliver to manifest is in an already existing magical item. While it is not recommend, it is one avenue a DM may choose to streamline the process of acquiring slivers and to further develop the original bearer. ##### Restrictions Slivers are powerful and cursed, and can only be attuned to one at a time. If a creature were to attune to another while attuned to a sliver already, both slivers would shatter violently, destroying them in the process. ### Sliver of Lust *Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw emotion of lust. When attuned, the creature is cursed and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you make a successful weapon attack, the target can not benefit from advantage against being charmed until the start of your next turn. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you may add your spellcasting modifier or your Constitution modifier (your choice) when making any Charisma ability checks. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Lust is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. You now have disadvantage against all spell schools except the Enchantment school. ### Sliver of Gluttony *Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw emotion of gluttony. When attuned, the creature is cursed and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you make a successful weapon attack, the target can’t regain hit points until the start of your next turn. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, whenever you regain any hitpoints, you gain advantage on the next saving throw you make before the end of your next turn. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Gluttony is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. You now have disadvantage against all spell schools except the Necromancy school. ``` ```

> ##### Optional: Behavioral Curses Another option a DM/Player may wish to employ is the behavioral effects of having been cursed by a specific sin. It could be a simple as ***"Whenever you roll a 1 on an ability check, your behavior changes for a moment to act on your sin"*** or as involved as a complete personality shift while cursed. Remember to work with the other players/DM for a suitable behavior for your table. ### Sliver of Wrath *Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw emotion of Wrath. When attuned, the creature is cursed and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you roll a 1 on a damage die for an attack you make with a weapon, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you deal double damage against objects and structures. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Wrath is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. You now have disadvantage against all spell schools except the Evocation school. ### Sliver of Despair *Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw emotion of Despair. When attuned, the creature is cursed and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you make a successful weapon attack, the target has disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you can reduce any damage you take by an amount equal to half your proficiency bonus rounded down. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Despair is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. You now have disadvantage against all spell schools except the Divination school.

### Sliver of Envy *Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw emotion of Envy. When attuned, the creature is cursed and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you make a successful weapon attack, the target has disadvantage on the next ability check it makes before the start of your next turn. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you can add half your proficiency bonus, rounded down, to any ability check you make that doesn't already include your proficiency bonus. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Envy is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. You now have disadvantage against all spell schools except the Abjuration school. ### Sliver of Sloth *Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw emotion of Sloth. When attuned, the creature is cursed and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you make a successful weapon attack, the target's speed is reduced by 10ft. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, as a bonus action, choose a creature within 30ft. of you. The chosen creature gains the effects of the dash action until the end of their next turn. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Sloth is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. You now have disadvantage against all spell schools except the Conjuration school. ### Sliver of Greed *Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw emotion of Greed. When attuned, the creature is cursed and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you deal damage to a creature of size Small or larger with a weapon, its wound produces an amount of gp equal to double your proficiency bonus. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you can now use the Search or Use an Object action as a bonus action. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Greed is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. You now have disadvantage against all spell schools except the Transmutation school. ### Sliver of Pride *Wondrous item, uncommon (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw emotion of Pride. When attuned, the creature is cursed and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you make a successful weapon attack, you gain advantage on the next ability check you make before the start of your next turn. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you are now immune to any effects or spells that would determine if you are lying. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Pride is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. You now have disadvantage against all spell schools except the Illusion school. ``` ```
### Sliver of Cowardice *Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw emotion of Cowardice. When attuned, the creature is cursed and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you deal damage to a creature, that creature can no longer make oppurtunity attacks. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, whenever you are dealt damage, you can use your reaction to turn invsible until you take an action or reaction. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Cowardice is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. Whenever you are dealt a critical hit or fail a saving throw by 5 or more, you become frightened by the creature that targeted you. This effect ends when the creature is slain, dealt a critical hit, or fails a saving roll by 5 or more. ### Sliver of Treachery *Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw emotion of Treachery. When attuned, the creature is cursed and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you score a critical hit, you may have the target make a Charisma saving throw. On a failure, it must expend its reaction to attack a creature of your choice within reach. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you are immune to all damage from friendly creatures. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Treachery is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. Whenever you are dealt a critical hit or fail a saving throw by 5 or more, you must use your reaction to attack the nearest creature with either a weapon or a cantrip (DM's Choice). ### Sliver of Heresy *Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw emotion of Heresy. When attuned, the creature is corrupted and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you attack with advantage and hit, the target suffers the effects of the *bane* spell until the start of your next turn ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you can’t be targeted by any divination magic or perceived through magical scrying sensors. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Heresy is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. Whenever you are dealt a critical hit or fail a saving throw by 5 or more, you must roll on the Short-Term Madness table. This effect lasts until the end of your next turn.

>##### Heavenly Virtues Sins are much plentiful than their counterparts, the Virtues. As the ability to manifest from a creature takes nothing short of a saint. But even in their inherent goodness, these slivers are no less cursed and terrible. As all good intentions pave the way towards damnation. ### Sliver of Purity *Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw virtue of Purity. When attuned, the creature is corrupted and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you hit a creature with advantage, it can no longer benefit from any damage resistances until the start of your next turn. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you have resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Purity is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. Whenever you cast a non-Evocation spell or fail a saving throw by 5 or more. You must expend a hit dice or you die. ### Sliver of Temperance *Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw virtue of Temperance. When attuned, the creature is corrupted and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you score a critical hit on a creature, it is restrained until the start of your next turn. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you gain the benefits of the *freedom of movement* spell. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Temperance is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. Whenever you cast a non-Abjuration spell or fail a saving throw by 5 or more. You must expend a hit dice or you die. ### Sliver of Patience *Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw virtue of Patience. When attuned, the creature is corrupted and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you score a critical hit on a creature, it suffers the effects of the *slow* spell until the start of you next turn. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, whenever a creature misses you with an attack, you can use your reaction to make a weapon attack or cast a cantrip. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Patience is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. Whenever you cast a non-Enchantment spell or fail a saving throw by 5 or more. You must expend a hit dice or you die. ``` ```

### Sliver of Hope *Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw virtue of Hope. When attuned, the creature is corrupted and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you roll with advantage and succeed, you may grant the same type of advantage to a creature within 30ft. of you as part of that roll ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you can no longer suffer disadvantage so long as your are not frightened, incapcitated, or unconcious. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Hope is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. Whenever you cast a non-Illusion spell or fail a saving throw by 5 or more. You must expend a hit dice or you die. ### Sliver of Kindness *Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw virtue of Kindness. When attuned, the creature is corrupted and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you hit a hostile creature with advantage, you regain a number of hitpoints equal to your profiency bonus. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, whenever you regain hitpoints, you may instead grant any amount of the hitpoints you would have gained to a creature within 60ft. of you. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Kindness is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. Whenever you cast a non-Necromancy spell or fail a saving throw by 5 or more. You must expend a hit dice or you die. ### Sliver of Diligence *Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw virtue of Diligence. When attuned, the creature is corrupted and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you score a critical hit against a creature, choose either bonus action or reaction. It can no longer use the chosen option until the start of your next turn. You gain the chosen option until the start of your next turn. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, so long as you have no more remaining actions, bonus actions or reactions, you gain the effects of the dodge action until the start of your next turn. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Diligence is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. Whenever you cast a non-Transmutation spell or fail a saving throw by 5 or more. You must expend a hit dice or you die.

Whenever you cast a non-Conjuration spell or fail a saving throw by 5 or more. You must expend a hit dice or you die. ### Sliver of Humility *Wondrous item, very rare (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw virtue of Humility. When attuned, the creature is corrupted and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, you can add your profienecy bonus to your damage rolls. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you can reduce any damage you take by an amount equal to your proficiency bonus. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Humility is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. Whenever you cast a non-Divination spell or fail a saving throw by 5 or more. You must expend a hit dice or you die. ``` ``` ### Sliver of Order *Wondrous item, legendary (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw ideal of Order. When attuned, the creature is corrupted and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you hit a creature with advantage, it is effected by the *dispel magic* spell. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, creatures within 15ft. of you are now under the effects of the *silence* spell for the purposes of casting a spell. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Order is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. Whenever you roll a 1 or a 20, you automatically fail a death saving throw, regardless if you are below 0 hitpoints. Upon three failures, you die. ### Sliver of Harmony *Wondrous item, legendary (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw ideal of Harmony. When attuned, the creature is corrupted and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you attack a creature with advantage, it suffers disadvantage on all rolls until the start of your next turn. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you are now immune to all conditions. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Harmony is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. Whenever you are dealt damage by every damage type, you now die and your body is turned to stone as if petrified. ### Sliver of Chaos *Wondrous item, legendary (requires attunement)* This sliver is imbued with the raw ideal of chaos. When attuned, the creature is corrupted and gains this sliver's vice and virtue effect alongside an urge to indulge in this emotion. ***Vice.*** When attuned, whenever you cast a spell or make a weapon attack, you can alter the damage type to any other damage type. ***Virtue.*** When attuned, you have resistance to all damage types. ***Curse.*** Sliver of Chaos is cursed, and becoming attuned to it extends the curse to you. You must now only roll with advantage or disadvantage. Whenever you fail to do so, you must expend a hitdice or you die and your body is reduced to ash. >##### Cosmic Ideals While sins and virtues exist and manifest on the mortal/material plane, Cosmic Ideals are held in the other planes of the multiverse where alignments are static and absolute. These slivers are born from those who exemplify and are paragons of their respective planes. Acquiring a Sliver of Ideal is not only a boost of terrible power but a boost in attention throughout the multiverse.

When you multiclass into praetor, you gain proficiency in light armor, medium armor, shields, simple weapons, and martial weapons.
