Paladin Oath of the Storm
Oath of the Storm
Paladins swearing the Oath of the Storm tend to be well in tune with the natural world around them. They share many of the ideals of their brethren in the Oath of the Ancients, but while those paladins focus their efforts of defense and protecting nature, Storm Paladins venture out and use the power of nature to proactively defeat those who would defile the world.
Though often thunderous and impulsive, paladins swearing this Oath are also some of the staunchest in their beliefs. Their connection to the storm allows them to stand as a beacon within the gale, protecting their charges and defeating their enemies alike.
Tenets of the Storm
The tenets of the storm are sacred among these paladins. Though they share similarities, each individual paladin's Oath is different.
Weather the Storm. Nature's fury impacts us all. It is not our place to stop the storm, only to withstand it.
Ambassador of Storms. Some people do not understand the nature of the Storm. Be a good ambassador and show them the good a storm can bring.
Become the Storm. Seek out those who would defile the natural world. Bathe them in righteous lightning.
You gain Oath spells at the Paladin levels listed.
Oath of the Storm Spells
|3rd||fog cloud, thunderwave|
|5th||gust of wind, shatter|
|9th||thunder step, lightning bolt|
|13th||elemental bane, storm sphere|
|17th||control winds, destructive wave|
Upon choosing this Oath at 3rd level, the power of the storm infuses your soul. When you deal damage with an unarmed strike, paladin spell, or paladin feature, you may choose to deal Lightning or Thunder damage instead of the normal damage type.
When you take this Oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options
Destructive Wrath. You can use your Channel Divinity to wield the power of the storm with unchecked ferocity. When you roll lightning or thunder damage, you can use your Channel Divinity to deal maximum damage, instead of rolling.
Thunderous Shockwave. As an action, you may slam the ground around you with the force of thunder, creating a thunderclap audible out to 300 feet. All enemy creatures within 30 feet must make a Constitution saving throw or take thunder damage equal to twice your paladin level and be knocked prone. On a successful save, creatures take half damage and are not knocked prone.
Beginning at 7th level, lightning constantly cackles around you, jumping about in seemingly random patterns. You and allies within 10 feet of you deal extra lightning damage equal to your Charisma modifier when they hit with a successful melee weapon attack.
The range of this aura increases to 30 feet at 18th level.
Upon reaching 15th level, your connection to the primordial powers of the tempest give you complete control over it. You gain a number of Storm Points equal to your Charisma modifier, and may expend Storm Points to cast spells on your Oath Spell List without using a spell slot. The number of points you must spend is equal to the level of the spell cast. You regain expended Storm Points when you complete a long rest.
At 20th level, your connection to the
power of the storm is unbreakable. You gain
a flying speed of 60 feet and immunity to lightning and thunder damage.
Additionally, as an action you may invoke the power of the storm within you. Once invoked, for the next minute you gain the following benefits:
- Enemy creatures within 30 feet of you take 10 lightning damage at the beginning of each of your turns.
- Your Divine Smite always deals Lightning damage, ignores resistance and immunity to Lightning damage, and its damage die becomes a d12.
Once you use this feature, you must complete a long rest before you may use it again.
