# Plague Doctor

Plague doctors are the hardy and the helpful who choose to risk their life to help the masses in times of need. When divinity and magic has failed, the plague doctors come in. Doing all that they can with their knowledge and science to soothe, heal and help the sickly and dying. Plague doctors, being subject to the disease and danger they hope to solve, often wear complex and fantastical outfits in the hopes of protecting themselves to serve another day. Plague doctors often gain places of respect or honor in the community due to their selfless acts of help. Once the magicians come back in they generally lose their place. Those who are adept or especially hardy sometimes turn to adventuring to train their skills or find a place to help. **Role**: Plague Doctors are helpers through and through. They serve to protect and buff their allies while manipulating the battlefield and controlling where and what the enemies do. ### Class Features The following are class features of the Plague Doctor. #### **Weapon and Armor Proficiency** Plague Doctors are proficient with all simple weapons and with light armor but not with shields. ``` ``` #### **Concoction (Ex)** A plague doctor has learned how to create concoctions to help soothe pain and heal people of sickness and disease. These concoctions are held in reusable glass vials and administered through syringe. These concoctions are made through non-magical means but some people say they extract the inherent magic out of the materiels they are made of. \page Concoctions are used by injected them into a willing subject through the use of a syringe. The plague doctor can use his concoctions on himself in the same way. Because of this all concoctions that mimic spells change the spells range to touch. When a concoction is used the subject of its use regains 1d8 hit points plus a number of hit points equal to the plague doctor's wisdom modifier. A plague doctor prepares his Concoctions at the beginning of the day over the course of one hour. A Plague Doctor may have a number of concoctions equal to his level + his wisdom modifier. Using a concoction is a standard action that does not provoke an attack of oppuritunity. In adition to the healing effect a concotion may have one other effect. At first level a Plague doctor gains two extra possible effects. At second level and every 2 levels thereafter he gains another two possible effects. What effect a concoction has must be determined at the beginning of the day when they are prepared. Each concoction prepared may have a different effect. Any concoction effect that mimics a spell effect has its target or area changed to target subject. Upon reaching 4th level, and at every four plague doctor levels after that (8th, 12th, and so on), a plague doctor can choose to learn a new concoction effect in place of one he already knows. In effect, the plague doctor loses the old concoction effect in exchange for the new one. A plague doctor may swap only a single concoction effect at any given level. For Concotion effects that mimic spell effects, for the purpose of modifiers, count the Plague doctors level as half rounded down (minimum 1). Possible Concoction effects - +2 to all saving throws for 6 rounds - Subject gets another save to resist a condition or effect they are currently effected by - +2 to all to hit rolls for 6 rounds - Fast healing 1 for a number of rounds equal to the plague doctor's level - Mimicked spells that can be chosen: Aid, Ant Haul, Cure Light Wounds, Delay Disease, Delay Pain, Delay Poison, Divine Favor, Endure elements, remove fear, Remove sickness, Surmount Affliction

At 6th level the healing provided by concoctions increases to 2d8 + the plague doctor's wisdom modifier and these effects are added to the possible effects to choose from: - +4 to all saving throws for 5 rounds - +4 to all to hit rolls for 5 rounds - Fast healing 2 for a number of rounds equal to the plague doctor's level - Mimicked spells that can be chosen: Bear's Endurance, Bull's Strength, cure moderate wounds, Eagle's Splendor, Owl's Wisdom, Remove Paralysis, Remove Blindness/Deafness, Remove Curse, Remove Disease, Resist Energy, Lesser Restoration #### **Healer's Code (Ex)** Plague doctors gains a competence bonus equal to his class level on a heal check when it is used to provide first aid, provide long-term care, treat deadly wounds, treat poison or treat disease. #### **Disease Sense (Ex)** A plague doctor may mimic the effects of the spells "detect poison" or "diagnose disease" from the cleric spell list through a scientific process that takes 1 minute. #### **Trusty Syringe (Ex)** A plague doctor begins play with a masterwork syringe at no cost. This syringe is used to administer concoctions. This syringe can be concealed on the plague doctor's body as a free action. If a syringe is damaged it is restored to full health the next time a plague doctor prepares concoctions. If a syringe is lost or broken it can be replaced with one day of work that costs 200gp. #### **Limited Brew (Ex)** A plague doctor can create potions of any spell his concoctions can mimic as if he had the spell, had the brew potion feat and was a caster of appropriate level to cast the spell. #### **Patch (Ex)** As a standard action a plague doctor can apply bandages and patches to an adjacent willing creature. These patches stop any bleed affects and give an amount of temporary HP equal to the plague doctors level for 10 minutes or until the hp is lost. While a character is under the effect of patch it can not be used on them again. A plague doctor can do this a number of times per day equal to his wisdom modifier. #### **Poison Resistance (Ex)** At 3rd level, a plague doctor gains a +2 bonus on all saving throws against poison. This bonus increases to +4 at 6th level, and then again to +6 at 9th level. At 12th level, a plague doctor becomes completely immune to poison. #### **Purification (Ex)** A Plague doctor can sacrifice one concoction to remove all poison and disease effects from an amount of food and water equal to 5 cu. ft. #### **Reverse engineering (Ex)** A plague doctor learns how to make their concoctions into disuptive or damaging tinctures instead of helping ones. Starting at 4th level a plague doctor can create damaging concoctions instead of healing ones at the beginning of the day. These concotions can be used theough the syringe as a touch attack and deal 1d8 + wis modifier damage plus any effect they have in them. Concoctions used in this way can be used as part of a full round attack action but only one may be used per turn. If a spell mimicking concoction says in the spell description that you must make a touch attack to use it, the touch attack to use the concoction counts as that touch attack. A plague doctor also adds these effects to possible effects they can learn: - -2 to all saving throws for 5 rounds - -2 to all attack rolls for 5 rounds - Mimicked spells that can be chosen: Bane, Doom, Inflict light wounds, Diminish Resistance, Hold Person, Touch of Gracelessness, Touch of Mercy \page #### **Controlled Disease (Ex)** At 5th level, plague doctors learn how to manipulate the diseases and poisons they help cure people of. Plague doctors can turn any inhaled or contact poison into an unstable chalk ball or potion contained fluid in a process that takes 1 hour and comsumes the poison. These items can be fired through a sling or thrown with a maximum range of 20ft. Upon impact they create a 10ft square of gaseous poison. This cloud lasts for 3d4 minutes and anyone who enters it or starts their turn in it is affected by the poison the gas was made out of. In addition the Plague doctor may substitute his heal skill for any craft(alchemy) check required to create, extract or preserve poison, milk venom and craft antivenom. #### **Poison Use (Ex)** Plague doctors become more and more accompanied with care around disease and the use of medicines and poisons. Starting at 5th level a plague doctor can not accidently poison themselves when applying poison to a weapon or surface. #### **Alms for the Sickly (Ex)** When using the heal skill to treat disease or treat poison instead of gaining a +4 modifier the subject may instead use the plague doctor's save in place of their own. #### **Poison Extraction (Ex)** Starting at seventh level plague doctors gain the ability to harvest disease. They can treat any disease a creature could inflict as a poison for the purpose of extracting it. They can then turn these diseases into items usable with the controlled disease ability. In addition a plague doctor attempting to milk venom adds a +5 to any handle animal roll they make for it. #### **Combined Concoctions (Ex)** Starting at 9th level The plague doctor can add one extra concoction effect to every concoction he makes. Meaning a concoction can be made with 2 different effects, both of which take place when the concoction is used. This increases to two extra effects per concoction at 18th level, meaning a concoction can be made with 3 different effects, all of which take place when the concoction is used. This ability can be used for reverse engineered concoctions as well. #### **Effective Disease (Ex)** Through years of training and knowledge of drug combinations the plague doctor has found ways to make things more deadly. Starting at 8th level any disease or poison made by the plague doctor increases its save by 3. At 14th level the save is increased by 6. Any poisons or diseases not made by the plague doctor can have their effectiveness increased by him over the course of 4 hours of work and an amount of gp equal to 1/4th its price. #### **Masterful Concotions (Ex)** Starting at level 10 a plague doctor becomes more adept at the use and creation of concotions. Concoctions now heal 3d8 points of damage plus an amount equal to the plague doctor's wisdom modifier or deal damage equal to 2d8 plus his wisdom modifier depending on how they are made. In addition when the plague doctor makes a concoction he may choose an extra concoction effect they could use and append it to the concoction. When the concoction is used you may substitute one of the effects it was set up with for the extra one selected. - For example a tenth level plague doctor could pick "remove sickness" and "cure light wounds" as the concoctions main effects and then pick remove paralysis as an extra effect then laater in the day their ally may be paralyzed and damaged but not diseased so the plague doctor could use that concotion on them substituting remove sickness with remove paralysis. Remove paralysis would be used on them and remove sickness's effect would be lost. Every concoction made may have a different extra concoction effect. A plague doctor also adds these effects to possible effects they can learn: - +6 to all saving throws for 4 rounds - +6 to all to hit rolls for 4 rounds - -4 to all saving throws for 4 rounds - -4 to all attack rolls for 4 rounds - Fast healing 3 for a number of rounds equal to the plague doctor's level - Mimicked spells that can be chosen: Blindness/Deafness, Greater Celestial healing, Contagion, Cure Serious Wounds, Dispel Magic, Fleshworm infestation, Freedom of Movement, Howling Agony, Inflict Serious Wounds, Ironskin, Mighty Strength, Nap Stack, Nuetralize Poison, Poison, Protection from Energy, Restoration, Ride the Waves, Rigor Mortis, Spellcrash At 14th level the healing provided by concoctions increases to 4d8 + the plague doctor's wisdom modifier or deal damage equal to 3d8 plus his wisdom modifier depending on how they are made. and these effects are added to the possible effects to choose from: - +8 to all saving throws for 3 rounds - +8 to all to hit rolls for 3 rounds - -6 to all saving throws for 3 rounds - -6 to all attack rolls for 3 rounds - Fast healing equal to the plague doctor's wisdom modifier for a number of rounds equal to the plague doctor's level -3 - Mimicked spells that can be chosen: Confusion, Cure Critical Wounds, Inflict Critical Wounds, Slough, Greater Spellcrash, Harm, Haste, Heal, True Seeing - The following are mimicked spells that can be chosen but use the plague doctor's full level for modifiers rather than half: Caustic Blood, Spell resistance #### **Penetrating disease (Ex)** A plague doctor has seen the most devious and dangerous diseases and poisons and knows how they work. All poisons and diseases made or extracted by the plague doctor bypass poison and disease resistances or immunities except those offered by construct traits. \page #### **Improved Patch (Ex)** The amount of temporary hp given by the patch ability increases to the plague doctors level + an amount of d6 equal to the plague doctors wisdom modifier. In addition the plague doctor may now use this ability an extra 3 times per day. #### **Megacoction Minor(Ex)** Starting at 13th level a Plague doctor can amass all his knowledge to create an extremely powerful Megacoction. This megacoction is used through the syringe just like a concoction but it does not have access to the effects of the concoctions nor the healing or damaging abilities. Only one Megacoction can be made per day and it is made at the beginning of the day when the plague doctor's concoctions are prepared. A megacoction can be prepared with any two of the following effects, when it is used the plague doctor must pick one of the effects and that effect is the only one that will be activated, the other effect being lost for the day. The effects that can be chosen from are: - Mimicry of the spell Breath of Life except the instead of having to be used on a creature that has died within one round it can be used on any creature that has died in the last 6 rounds - Give target an amount of temporary hp equal to half their maximum hp for 1 minute. - Mimicry of the spell power word stun except with a range of touch - Mimicry of the spell transformation - Mimicry of the spell Deadly Juggernaut but it has a target of touched #### **The People's Doctor (Ex)** Plague doctors have become so used to hospice work that they can manage whole triage tents on their own. Starting at 15th level the plague doctor may use the heal skill on all creatures within 30ft of him simultaneously. Each creature may recieve different or similar care - for example if the plague doctor had both a diseased barbarian and a wounded sorcerer within 30ft of him looking for care he could use the heal skill to remove disease on the barbarian and provide long term care on the sorcerer simultaneously. Alternatively he could use the heal skill to provide long term care on his entire party at the same time. Using the heal skill this way is still subject to the limitations of the actions taken. #### **Perfected Disease (Ex)** Whenever anyone or anything makes a save to resist a poison or disease made or extracted by the plague doctor they roll two saves and take the lower result. #### **Perfected concoction (Ex)** Starting at 18th level a plague doctor becomes perfect at the use and creation of concotions. Concoctions now heal 5d8 points of damage plus an amount equal to the plague doctor's wisdom modifier or deal damage equal to 4d8 plus his wisdom modifier depending on how they are made. When the plague doctor makes a concoction he may now choose 2 extra concoction effects they could use instead of one and append them to the concoction. When the concoction is used you may substitute up to two of the effects it was set up with for any extra one selected. Every concoction made may have different extra concoction effects. In addition for Concotion effects that mimic spell effects now use the plague doctors level for the purpose of modifiers, rather than half of his level. A plague doctor also adds these effects to possible effects they can learn: - +10 to all saving throws for 3 rounds - +10 to all to hit rolls for 3 rounds - -8 to all saving throws for 3 rounds - -8 to all attack rolls for 3 rounds #### **Megacoction Major (Ex)** Starting at 19th level the plague doctor has amassed even more knowledge for his megacoction. The following effects are added to the list of effects to choose from for megacoctions: - Give target an amount of temporary hp equal to their maximum hp for 1 minute - Mimicry of the following spells but with a range of touch: Destruction, Greater Restoration, Power Word Kill or Time Stop - Mimicry of the spell Breath of Life except the instead of having to be used on a creature that has died within one round it can be used on any creature that has died in the last 10 minutes, it also heals 10d8 instead of 5d8.
