# Cyberpunk to 5e Adaptation \page # Let's Get Some Things Straight Adapting any aspect of the Sci-Fi or Cyberpunk genres to a gaming system with an emphasis on the fantastic whimsical magic of modern takes on ancient eras is incredibly difficult as in almost every case these systems just can't accomodate the technologies or other resources that many players would assume a world set in the future would have. *That* is the point of this section. The following is a description of the *Hack* Action and several examples of its uses, and of Cyberware and its application. Some items and abilities described in this section refer to items described in the *Modern Magic* Unearthed Arcana published by Wizards of the Coast in 2014. ## Hacking As an Action, a creature can attempt to hack a creature or an object. The Dungeon Master determines what can and cannot be hacked, a creature can only Hack something if it can be hacked. In order to hack something a creature must be within 5 ft. of or otherwise be able to see and touch the creature or object that they are trying to hack unless they benefit from a feature or trait that allows them to attempt to hack objects at a greater range in which case they must only be able to see the creature or object. When a creature attempts to hack an object they must make an Intelligence Check of a DC determined by the Dungeon Master. If the creature attempting to hack the object is within 5 ft. of it or otherwise capable of touching it then they may be able to utilize *Hacker's Tools*, potentially allowing them to add their proficiency bonus, or more, to the check. Upon a success the creature hacks the object. When a creature attempts to hack another creature the targeted creature makes an Intelligence Saving Throw against the hacking creature's Hack Save DC. Every creature's Hack save DC equals 8 + their Intelligence Modifier. Some features and traits allow certain creatures to add other modifiers to their Hack Save DC as well. When a creature attempts to Hack an object that they own or a creature that is willing to be Hacked the Hack automatically succeeds without need for any check. This section includes several examples of technologies that can be hacked and the benefits they offer when they are. Many of these benefits resolve the instant a creature hacks an object. The Dungeon Master determines whether or not an additional *Hack* Action and the ensuing ability check is necessary for a creature to benefit from hacking the technology multiple times after a single successful hack. ### Camera Normally, cameras stream whatever it is that they are recording to a monitor or monitors. In some cases this is nothing more than a live display, but in most cases these monitors are accompanied by computers or consoles to which the footage captured by the camera or cameras connected to the monitors is saved. The instant a creature hacks a Camera it can choose to activate or to deactivate it. Alternatively, if the creature performing the hack has access to a monitor, it can choose to stream the camera's perspective and display it onto such a monitor. The instant a creature hacks a monitor connected to a camera it can choose to sever the connection between that monitor and any number of cameras that it is connected to. Alternatively, a creature can cause the monitor to display something else. This can be a photo or video of the creature's choice so long as the Dungeon Master approves of the existence of such a photo or video and agrees that the creature would have access to such a photo or video and would be capable of uploading it onto the monitor. ### Cyberware People installed with Cyberware can be hacked. The instant a creature hacks a creature installed with Cyberware they can choose to short-circuit the hacked creature's installed Cyberware. The hacked creature must make an Intelligence Saving Throw against the hacker's Hack Save DC. Upon a failure the target takes 1d6 lightning damage for every piece of Cyberware they have installed on their body. They then temporarily lose the benefits of every piece of Cyberware installed on their body, regaining them at the end of their next turn. If this Cyberware replaces any limb or crucial body part such as an arm or eyes the creature temporarily loses the use of these body parts as well, potentially causing them to suffer such conditions as Blinded or even Paralyzed in some extreme cases. ### Data Data includes any electronically-stored information such as digital text files, photos, videos, etc. Data can be hacked by a creature that has access to the device in which the data is stored. The instant a creature hacks a piece of data they can choose to encrypt it, rendering it unintelligible to anyone other than itself and any number of creatures that it designates when it successfully performs the hack. Alternatively, when a creature hacks a piece of data that is already encrypted they can choose to decrypt it. When a creature attempts to decrypt a piece of encrypted data they make a Hacking check against the Hack Save DC of the creature responsible for the data's encryption. Upon a success the targeted data is no longer encrypted. ### Door Doors that operate with the aid of electronics such as automatic doors can be hacked. The instant that a creature hacks an electronic door it can cause it to open or close. If the door was locked by nonmagical means when it was hacked the creature can choose to unlock it before opening it or just to unlock it. Similarly, if the door was unlocked when it was hacked the creature can choose to lock it once it is shut or just to lock it. \page ### Explosive An explosive that operates with the aid of electronics can be hacked. The Dungeon Master determines what exactly this includes but examples can include anything from a tank of propane digitally displaying its capacity to a smartphone. The instant a creature hacks an explosive it can cause it to explode. The ensuing effect is determined by the Dungeon Master but examples include the following: The propane tank explodes. Every creature within 20 ft. of the propane tank must make a DC 13 Dexterity Saving Throw, taking 3d6 fire damage upon a failure or half as much upon a success. The smartphone erupts with static electricity. The creature carrying the smartphone must make a DC 10 Constitution Saving Throw, upon a failure the creature suffers 1d4 lightning damage and is stunned until the end of their next turn. ### Gun Guns that operate with the aid of electronics such as guns that feature a live display of their ammunition can be hacked. The instant a creature hacks a gun they can choose to jam it. Once a gun is has been jammed it remains jammed until a creature within 5 ft. of the gun that can both see and touch it uses an Action to clear the jam, at which point the gun is no longer jammed. While a gun is jammed it cannot fire. ### Light Electronic sources of light (excluding candles, torches, the sun, etc.) can be hacked. The instant a creature hacks a light it can choose to activate or to deactivate it. Alternatively, the creature can cause the color of the light to change so long as the Dungeon Master agrees that the light would be capable of changing color such as an LED, a digital light, or otherwise. The light remains this color until it is deactivated or until 24 hours pass. ### Monitor Normally, monitors display something, be it the activity on a computer to which it is attached, the live feed of a nearby camera, an advertisement, or a movie being streamed from an online service. The instant a creature hacks a monitor it can choose to activate or to deactivate it. Simultaneously, it can choose to sever the connection between that monitor and any number of devices that it is connected to. Alternatively, a creature can cause the monitor to display something else. This can be a piece of data of the creature's choice so long as the Dungeon Master approves of the existence of such a photo or video and agrees that the creature would have access to such a photo or video and would be capable of uploading it onto the monitor. ``` ``` ### Turrets Semi-autonomous robot-mounted weapons such as stationary automatic turrets or combat drones can be hacked. Note that this does not include robots or other machines with free will such as the Androids of Veaux. The instant a creature hacks a turret it can cause it to activate or to deactivate. Alternatively, it can designate new targets for the turret. The new target can be incredibly specific such as "humans wearing red shirts" or it can be very general such as "the gang we're fighting". From that point forward the turret will target those designated until it is deactivated or until its targets are designated once again. ### Vehicle Vehicles that maneuver with the aid of electronics can be hacked. This excludes vehicles such as horse-drawn carriages, sailboats, or completely analogue cars, though such things may be rare in a Sci-Fi setting. The instant a creature hacks a Vehicle it can cause it to activate or to deactivate. If the vehicle were a car this would mean that the car's engine would either start or stop. Simultaneously, the creature can cause any number of doors throughout the vehicle to either lock or unlock. In some cases a Dungeon Master might consider a car an explosive, especially if it is fuelled by gasoline. Some explosives can be hacked, this is described on the previous page. ### Wallet A wallet that operates with the aid of electronics can be hacked. This includes bank accounts embedded in smart phones, digital credit/debit cards, or the "Coin Purse" of my own setting. The instant a creature hacks a digital wallet it can draw an amount of money from the wallet and deposit it into another that it has access to. Typically this would be the creature's own digital wallet, but some charitable hackers may choose to donate some or all of what they steal. A creature can only deposit money stolen as part of this action into a wallet belonging to another creature if they have access to that digital wallet by any means or if the recieving creature is or would be willing to recieve that money. The Dungeon Master determines whether or not this is the case. \page ## Cyberware "Cyberware" refers to biological technology, devices intended for integration into the bodies of humanoid creatures. Typically these devices offer those into whom they are integrated some utility, abilities, or uses in combat. The process of integrating Cyberware into a creature's body is referred to as installation. Once Cyberware has been installed into a creature, that creature benefits from the Cyberware's traits. Some backgrounds, features, and classes described in this document allow characters to begin with Cyberware already installed. This is far from the only way that a creature can have Cyberware installed, however. Every Cyberware included in this document is associated with a rarity and a price, much like any magic item in Fifth Edition D&D. Though Cyberware is not usually magical Dungeon Masters are encouraged to regard Cyberware as they would magical items in other settings. Adventurers can discover Cyberware, either on the freshly slain corpses of their foes, or for sale in shops across the setting. More powerful Cyberware is usually very rare or very expensive, while mundane Cyberware that provides little utility is usually very common and affordable. In order to install a new piece of Cyberware a creature must spend a short rest being attended to by another creature that the Dungeon Master agrees is capable of and willing to install the Cyberware. A creature that is willing but not necessarily capable of installing Cyberware can still attempt to, however at the end of the short rest they must succeed on either an Intelligence (Medicine) or a Dexterity (Medicine) check of a DC either determined by the Dungeon Master or corresponding with the table below. Upon a success the Cyberware is successfully installed. Upon a failure the attempted recipient of the Cyberware suffers 4 (1d6) slashing damage as well as 11 (3d6) psychic damage and the Cyberware remains uninstalled. ##### Installation DC | Cyberware Rarity | DC | |:----:|:-------------| | Common | 5 | | Uncommon | 10 | | Rare | 15 | | Very Rare | 20 | | Legendary or Rarer | 25 | A creature can choose to have any Cyberware installed on its body removed. The process is identical to having Cyberware installed but instead upon a success the chosen Cyberware is uninstalled and upon a failure the Cyberware remains Installed. Once a piece of Cyberware has been uninstalled from a creature's body they no longer benefit from the Cyberware's traits. A creature cannot have two of the same Cyberware installed in their body at once, nor can it have multiple pieces of Cyberware installed simultaneously that specify that they replace the same specific body part. Some pieces of Cyberware replace an area of the body rather than a specific body part, a creature can have multiple pieces of Cyberware installed in the same general area of the body given there is enough room in the area to accomodate the Cyberware. The following are some examples of Cyberware, their rarities, their costs, and their uses. Note that costs are listed in D&D's gp, as many Sci-Fi settings will not use the same currency: #### Amphibious Body *Cyberware, Rare, 5,000 gp*

The Amphibious Body is a number of modifications made to your body during its installation including a set of synthetic lungs which replace yours, a set of mechanical gills which are embedded into your neck, and a set of retractable mechanical fins which are embedded in/adhered to each of your major limbs. With the Amphibious Body installed you can breathe underwater, and you have a swimming speed of 60 ft. #### Body-Mounted Grenades *Cyberware, Very Rare, 50,000 gp*

The Body-Mounted Grenades is a rack of rocket-powered grenades that can either be embedded into a creature's torso or attached to either of their shoulders during installation. The Body-Mounted Grenades grant whoever they are integrated into the following benefits: - Whenever you make an attack on your turn you can choose to fire a rocket-powered grenade from the Body-Mounted Grenades. If the Body-Mounted Grenades are embedded into your torso they first emerge from within your body before firing. When you fire a rocket-powered grenade from the Body-Mounted Grenades, select a point that you can see within 500 ft. of you. The rocket-powered grenade instantly flies to that point from its place on your body. When it reaches that point, it explodes. Every creature within 20 ft. of a roket-powered grenade when it explodes must make a DC 18 Dexterity Saving Throw. Upon a failure they take 6d6 fire damage, or half as much upon a success. The Body-Mounted Grenades carry 4 rocket-powered grenades. Every time you fire a rocket-powered grenade you spend 1. You regain spent rocket-powered grenades when you finish a long rest. #### Chrome Tail *Cyberware, Rare, 5,000 gp*

The Chrome Tail is a glittering silver limb which protrudes from a creature's tailbone. The limb is incredibly flexible and grants whoever it is integrated into the following benefits: - The Chrome Tail functions like an additional arm and hand. As an example, with the Chrome Tail a creature could hold a single object that they could normally hold in one hand and still have two hands free. - The Chrome Tail aids in its user's balance and freedom of movement in the midst of efforts of acrobatics. As a Reaction whenever you make a Dexterity (Acrobatics) check you can grant yourself advantage on the check. \page - You can use the Chrome Tail as a melee weapon. The Chrome Tail does not require you to wield it in any hand so long as it is installed in your body. You are proficient with the Chrome Tail, it has the Finesse property, it has the Reach property, and when it hits a creature it deals 2d6 slashing damage. #### Cuerpo Jet *Cyberware, Very Rare, 50,000 gp*

The Cuerpo Jet is an engine which is embedded into your body during its installation and an exhaust or exhausts that jut out of your body either permanently or while you are using them to fly. With the Cuerpo Jet installed you have a flying speed of 60 ft. #### Cybernetic Immune System *Cyberware, Rare, 5,000 gp*

The Cybernetic Immune System is a coat of metallic silver that covers the veins, the lungs, and the guts of anyone into which it is installed. A creature installed with the Cybernetic Immune System is immune to disease and to poison damage. #### Drag Wings *Cyberware, Rare, 5,000 gp*

The Drag Wings are a set of metallic fins that are embedded into a creature's back between their shoulder blades during their installation. The Drag Wings grant whoever they are integrated into the following benefits: - The Drag Wings are always concealed, folded up beneath the skin of your back and between your shoulder blades. In this state the Drag Wings are invisible, detectable only by means of perception which would penetrate your skin. - Whenever you begin to fall or while you are falling as a Reaction you can cause the Drag Wings to deploy. When the Drag Wings deploy the skin of your back retracts to allow the metal blades within to emerge and unfold. While the Drag Wings are deployed you descend at a rate of 10 ft. per round. While you descend at this rate you can glide. You can move up to 10 ft. horizontally for every 5 ft. you descend. If you land or otherwise stop falling while falling at this rate you take no falling damage and can land on your feet. Immediately after you land the Drag Wings retract into your back, returning to their concealed state. #### Embedded Speakers *Cyberware, Common, 50 gp*

Embedded Speakers are a set of speakers are embedded into an area or areas of your body of your choice during their installation. Whenever you speak you can choose to speak through the Embedded Speakers. When you do, your voice booms up to three times as loud as normal. You can also play the sound of music or video aloud via the Embedded Speakers so long as the Dungeon Master approves of the existence of such a song or video and agrees that you would have access to it. Additionally, as an Action, you can emit a piercing sound from the Embedded Speakers. When you do, every creature within 5 ft. of you that can hear you must make a DC 11 Constitution Saving Throw. Upon a failure a creature becomes Deafened for 1 minute. A creature can retry this Saving Throw at the end of each of its turns that it spends deafened as a result of this ability, ending the effect early upon a success. #### Gorilla Arms *Cyberware, Very Rare, 50,000 gp*

The Gorilla Arms are a pair of synthetic, muscular arms which replace those of the creature to which they are installed. The Arms grant whoever they are integrated into the following benefits: - Your strength score becomes 20 if it is not already 20 or greater. - Whenever you hit a creature with an unarmed strike you deal an additional 3d6 bludgeoning damage. - While the Gorilla Arms are installed in your body you are proficient in Athletics. #### Hand Cannon *Cyberware, Rare, 5,000 gp*

The Hand Cannon is the golden metallic barrel of a gun which is embedded into either one of a creature's wrists during its installation. The Hand Cannon grants whoever it is integrated into the following benefits: - The Hand Cannon is always in either one of two states, concealed or drawn. As a Bonus Action you can cause the Hand Cannon to switch between its two states, either going from concealed to drawn or from drawn to concealed. - Normally the Hand Cannon is in its concealed state, hidden beneath the skin of your wrist. In this state the Hand Cannon is invisible, detectable only by means of perception which would penetrate your skin. - When the Hand Cannon is drawn your hand and the skin of your wrist retracts to allow the barrel to emerge. While the Hand Cannon is drawn you can use it as a ranged weapon wielded in the corresponding hand. You are proficient with the Hand Cannon, it has a range of 50/150, and when you successfully hit a creature it deals 2d6 fire damage. #### Homing Visor *Cyberware, Very Rare, 50,000 gp*

The Homing Visor is a wide visor which replaces the eyes of the creature into which it is installed. The Homing Visor grants whoever it is integrated into the following benefits: - Attacking at long range doesn't impose disadvantage on your ranged weapon attack rolls. - Your ranged weapon attacks ignore half and three-quarters cover. \page - On your turn, before you use any of your movement, as a Bonus Action you can use all of your movement at once to make it so that you can see every single creature within 60 ft. of you, including those totally obscured from your normal vision by walls or other obstacles. You retain this vision of every single creature within 60 ft. of you until the end of your turn. Once you have activated this ability you cannot use any of your movement speeds to move until the end of your turn. #### Interface *Cyberware, Uncommon, 500 gp*

The Interface consists of a pair of USB port outputs embedded in a creature's neck behind one of their ears during their installation and one USB cable input embedded into one of the creature's wrists. The Interface grants whoever they are integrated into the following benefits: - Output: The USB ports embedded in your neck are connected to your brain and to every piece of Cyberware in your body. You can download data and interface with certain machines by inputting compatible pieces of technology into your output. Different items have different effects when inputted directly into an output in this way. - Input: The USB cable embedded in your wrist is mostly concealed, wound up underneath the skin of your forearm, but you can unwind and extend the cable at any time to plug the output into any compatible input. You can upload data and interface with certain machines by attaching your output to a compatible input. You have advantage on Hacking checks made against creatures or objects which you are connected to via your input. - You can perform the *Hack* Action at a distance of 10 ft. from the target of your hack so long as your target is a creature or object that you can see. #### Finite Liberty Lenses *Cyberware, Common, 50 gp*

The Finite Liberty Lenses are a pair of synthetic irises and pupils which replace those of the eyes of the creature to which they are integrated. The Finite Liberty Lenses grant whoever they are integrated into the following benefits: - The Liberty Lenses constantly display relevant information about what you're looking at, including the names of nearby streets, the routes of passing buses, trains, and taxis, the names and hours of nearby businesses, notable facts about surrounding areas, if any, and more. - The Liberty Lenses allow you to access and navigate the internet without any tactile or verbal input. Through sight and thought alone one can navigate the internet as it is displayed before them upon the Finite Liberty Lenses. - The Liberty Lenses allow you to make both audio and video calls at will (no Action required). You can attempt to call a creature with which you are familiar. When you call a creature they instantly realize that they are being called and the identity of the creature that is calling them. They can then either accept or deny the call. Once accepted the reciever can hear anything you say and, if you are willing, see either your face as you speak or a live feed of your vision. This lasts until either participant ends the call (no Action required). You can also attempt to call a creature with which you are not familiar so long as you have their phone number or another method of reaching them. In such a case the creature instantly realizes that they are being called but does not realize the identity of the creature that is calling them. Otherwise the call functions normally. - The Liberty Lenses allow you to send text messages at will (no Action required). Select a creature with which you are familiar. They instantly recieve a message from you that is no longer than 25 words. Only the recipient is aware of this message and they recieve it silently. - The Liberty Lenses constantly display advertisements for local events, nearby businesses, city services, and Finite products, using their connection to your brain to ensure that you percieve these advertisements as much louder than the rest of the world around them. When you finish a long rest you can choose to pay 50 gp to suppress these advertisements for one week. - The Liberty Lenses double as a monitor that you have constant access to. #### Mantis Blades *Cyberware, Very Rare, 50,000 gp*

The Mantis Blades are a pair of long swords, each with a flexible joint that allows to fold and retract into their user's forearms. The Mantis Blades grant whoever they are integrated into the following benefits: - The Mantis Blades are always in either one of two states, concealed or drawn. As a Bonus Action you can cause both or either of the Mantis Blades to switch between their two states, either going from concealed to drawn or from drawn to concealed. - Normally the Mantis Blades are in their concealed state, hidden beneath the skin of your forearms. In this state the Mantis Blades are invisible, detectable only by means of perception which would penetrate your skin. - When a Mantis Blade is drawn your hands and the skin of your forearms retract to allow the blade to emerge. While a Mantis Blade is drawn you can use it as a melee weapon wielded in the corresponding hand. You are proficient with the Mantis Blades, they have the Finesse property, and when they hit a creature they deal 3d6 slashing damage. \page #### Monowire *Cyberware, Very Rare, 50,000 gp (Prerequisite: Interface already installed)*

The Monowire is an enhancement made to the the Interface which causes the Output USB cable to glow red-hot when withdrawn from its concealed state, allowing its user to use it as a weapon. A creature installed with the Monowire retains all of the benefits of the Interface and gains the following: - The Monowire is always concealed, wound up beneath the skin of one of your forearms. In this state the Monowire is invisible, detectable only by means of perception which would penetrate your skin. - You can use the Monowire as a melee weapon. You are proficient with the Monowire, it has the Finesse property, it has the Reach property, and when it hits a creature it deals 2d6 slashing damage and 3d6 Fire Damage. Additionally, whenever you hit a creature with the Monowire, as a Reaction you can attempt to Hack them as though performing the *Hack* Action. #### Net Lenses *Cyberware, Rare, 5,000 gp*

The Net Lenses are a pair of synthetic eyes which replace those of the creature into which they are installed. The Net Lenses grant whoever they are integrated into the following benefits: - The Net Lenses double as a monitor that you have constant access to and control of. Refer to the section describing the *Hack* Action for information on monitors. - You can perform the *Hack* Action at a distance of 120 ft. from the target of your hack so long as your target is a creature or object that you can see. - Whenever you hack an object or creature you can choose to learn more about it (no Action required). If your target was an object you learn what it is called and its primary use (if any). If it was a person you learn their name and some commonly known facts about them (if any). You also learn their creature type as well as the name and location of every piece of Cyberware installed on their body. #### Night Sights *Cyberware, Common, 50 gp*

The Night Sights are a pair of synthetic eyes which replace those of the creature into which they are installed. While you have the Night Sights installed you have Darkvision out to a range of 60 ft. The Night Sights double as a monitor that you have constant access to and control of. Refer to the section describing the *Hack* Action for information on monitors. #### Padded Soles *Cyberware, Uncommon, 500 gp*

Padded Soles are a soft synthetic material that replace the soles of your feet during their installation. Your steps make no sound, regardless of the surface you are moving across. You also have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks that rely on moving silently. #### Purchase Paws *Cyberware, Rare, 5,000 gp*

Also known as "Climbing Claws" the Purchase Paws are a set of coarse-textured hooked fingers and toes that replace yours during their installation. You have a climbing speed of 30 ft. You can climb up, down, and across vertical surfaces and upside down along ceilings, while leaving your hands free, all without the need for an ability check to maintain your grip. #### Reinforced Tendons *Cyberware, Uncommon, 500 gp*

The Reinforced Tendons are a set of synthetic muscles which replace those of your lower legs as they are installed. While you have the Reinforced Tendons installed you do not take damage suffered as the result of a fall unless the damage exceeds 28. #### Roller Heels *Cyberware, Rare, 5,000 gp*

The Roller Heels are a pair of slender mechanical boots each equipped with a set of small retractable wheels that permanently replace the feet of the creature to which they are integrated. The Roller Heels grant whoever they are integrated into the following benefits: - The Roller Heels are always in either one of two states, concealed or drawn. As a Bonus Action you can cause the Roller Heels to switch between their two states, either going from concealed to drawn or from drawn to concealed. - Normally the Roller Heels are in their concealed state, hidden beneath the skin of your heels. In this state the Roller Heels are invisible, detectable only by means of perception which would penetrate your skin. - When the Roller Heels are drawn the skin of your heels withdraws to allow the wheels within to emerge. While the Roller Heels are drawn your base movement speed increases by 15 ft. #### Sandevistan *Cyberware, Legendary, 500,000 gp*

The Sandevistan is an operating system which is embedded into your brain during its installation, as well as a mechanical spine which replaces yours. With the Sandesvistan installed as an Action you can cause the Sandevistan to administer you with a boost of hyper-mobility inducing adrenaline. Only a moment passes for other creatures while you take 1d4 + 1 turns in a row, during which you can use actions and move as normal. If any Action you take requires another creature to make an Ability check or Saving Throw they do so with disadvantage. Once you have done so you cannot do so again until you have finished a long rest. \page #### Storage Compartment *Cyberware, Common, 50 gp*

The Storage Compartment is a cavity carved out of an area of your torso of your choice and concealed with synthetic skin. Everything that you could normally carry can be carried within this cavity, up to your carrying capacity in weight. The items contained in this cavity share your space and move with you, concealed under your skin, detectable only by means of perception which would penetrate your skin. As an Action you can retrieve any item from within the Storage Compartment. When you do, the synthetic skin retracts to allow you to retrieve the item from within before shifting back into place, returning to its concealed state. #### Subepidermal Plating *Cyberware, Rare, 5,000 gp*

The Subepidermal Plating is a series of sturdy silicone plates that are placed underneath your skin in its entirety, covering your entire body. While you have the Subepidermal Plating installed your Armor Class can never be lower than 15. #### Surveillance Camouflage *Cyberware, Rare, 5,000 gp*

The Surveillance Camouflage is a simple transmitter embedded in your brain during its installation. With the Surveillance Camouflage installed your visage is distorted to cameras of every kind and your body appears obscured on any monitor displaying the feed of any camera such that your presence is still detected but your identity and any detail of your appearance is rendered completely indiscernible. #### Titanium Skeleton *Cyberware, Legendary, 500,000 gp*

The Titanium Skeleton is a black metallic skeleton which replaces yours during its installation. When the Titanium Skeleton is installed your Strength and Constitution scores increase by 2, as does your maximum for both scores. With the Titanium Skeleton installed you have disadvantage on all Dexterity (Stealth) checks and your Armor Class can never be lower than 18. #### Toggle Torch *Cyberware, Common, 50 gp*

The Toggle Torch is a small LED light which is adhered to the side of a creature's skull during its installation. The Toggle Torch grants whoever it is integrated into the following benefits: - The Toggle Torch is always in either one of two states, on or off. As a Bonus Action you can cause the Toggle Torch to switch between its two states, either going from on to off or from off to on. - While the Toggle Torch is on it casts bright light in front of you in a 30 ft. cone. \page # Items and Properties This section includes and expands much of what is covered in the section of the *Dungeon Master's Guide* detailing, among other things, modern, and futuristic items. The purpose of this section is to consolidate that information and to add enough that a Sci-Fi setting could be properly and appropriately equipped using only modern and futuristic items such as the following: ### Properties Firearms use special ammunition, and some of them have the burst fire, cover penetrating, homing, or reload property. #### Ammunition. The ammunition of a firearm is destroyed upon use. Modern firearms use bullets. Futuristic firearms are powered by a special type of ammunition called energy cells. An energy cell contains enough power for all the shots its firearm can make. #### Burst Fire. A weapon that has the burst fire property can make a normal single-target attack, or it can spray a 10-foot-cube area within normal range with shots. Each creature in the area must succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or take the weapon's normal damage. This action uses ten pieces of ammunition. #### Cover Penetrating Attacks made with this ranged weapon ignore half and three-quarters cover. Additionally, a creature benefitting from total cover does not prevent you from targeting it directly with this weapon if you are aware of the creature's precise position behind cover. Your inability to see the creature still imposes disadvantage on the ensuing Attack Roll unless you are able to circumvent that as well. #### Homing Instead of attacking normally when you make an attack with this ranged weapon you can choose a point within its normal range that you can see. The creature closest to that point out of every creature within 20 ft. of that point that is visible from that point automatically becomes the target of your attack even if they are benefitting from total cover from your position. #### Reload. A limited number of shots can be made with a weapon that has the reload property. A character must then reload it using an action or a bonus action (the character s choice). ``` ``` ### Explosives A Sci-Fi campaign may very well include Modern and Sci-Fi explosives. #### Dynamite As an action, a creature can light a stick of dynamite and throw it at a point up to 60 feet away. Each creature within 5 feet of that point must make a DC 12 Dexterity saving throw, taking 3d6 bludgeoning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. A character can bind sticks of dynamite together so they explode at the same time. Bach additional stick increases the damage by ld6 (to a maximum of 10d6) and the burst radius by 5 feet (to a maximum of 20 feet). Dynamite can be rigged with a longer fuse to explode after a set amount of time, usually 1 to 6 rounds. Roll initiative for the dynamite. After the set number of rounds goes by, the dynamite explodes on that initiative. #### Flammable Fuel Containers In a trend of origins owed to video games, conventional media has come to expect fuel containers such as propane or gasoline tanks to explode when they are shot, set aflame, or otherwise damaged. In some cases and in some campaigns, this expectation may not be so ridiculous. In such cases, the following is true: Normally, the flammable fuel container is stable. When a flammable fuel container takes any amount of fire damage it immediately explodes. When the flammable fuel container takes any damage other than fire, if the damage was equal to or greater than 20 it immediately explodes. If the damage of a type other than fire was less than 20 the fuel container becomes unstable. When an unstable fuel container takes any damage at all it explodes. A casting of *mending* or a similar restorative process can stabilize an unstable fuel container. When a fuel container explodes every creature within 20 ft. of the container must make a DC 15 Dexterity Saving Throw, taking 5d6 fire damage upon a failed save, or half as much upon a successful one. As described earlier in this document, an electronically-aided flammable fuel container may be made to explode via hacking instead of damage. #### Grenades As an action, a character can throw a grenade at a point up to 60 feet away With a grenade launcher, the character can propel the grenade up to 120 feet away. Each creature within 20 feet of an exploding **fragmentation grenade** must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 5d6 piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. One round after a **smoke grenade** lands, it emits a cloud of smoke that creates a heavily obscured area in a 20-foot radius. The following Backgrounds address this: ### Screen Junkie Whether or not it was by choice, in your youth you were familiarized with computers. Perhaps you were an aspiring Netrunner, a particularly passionate gamer, or just fell in with the wrong crowd. Either way, by the time you became what you are you were already familiar with the ways of hackers. **Skill Proficiencies:** History, Investigation **Tool Proficiencies:** *(a)* Two types of Artisan's tools or *(b)* Vehicles (land). Two types of Gaming Sets, Hacker's Tools. **Languages:** Binary and one more of your choice. **Equipment:** *(a)* 2 pieces of Common/Uncommon Cyberware or *(b)* 1 piece of rare Cyberware already installed in your body. A handheld monitor of your own, a set of Hacker's Tools, and a Coinpurse containing 15 gp. **Feature: Former Rookie** You can perform the *Hack* Action at a distance of 60 ft. from the target of your hack so long as your target is a creature or object that you can see. Additionally, your Hack Save DC includes your proficiency bonus in addition to the normal 8 + your Intelligence Modifier. ### Street Racer Whether or not it was by choice, in your youth you were familiarized with land vehicles. Whether you raced through your city's streets to make ends meet, lived behind the wheel of a mobile home, or drove getaway vehicles on crime sprees across the city, you learned how to handle a vehicle and no one does it quite like you. **Skill Proficiencies:** Persuasion, Sleight of Hand **Tool Proficiencies:** *(a)* Two types of Gaming Sets or *(b)* Hacker's Tools. Vehicles (land). **Languages:** One of your choice. **Equipment:** *(a)* 2 pieces of Common/Uncommon Cyberware or *(b)* 1 piece of rare Cyberware already installed in your body. The keys to your first car, and a Coinpurse containing 15 gp. **Feature: Getaway Driver** When you make an ability check that allows you to add your proficiency with land vehicles to the roll, your proficiency bonus is doubled assuming you are not already benefitting from a similar effect that causes your proficiency with land vehicles to double. If your Dungeon Master would rule that actively driving a car would negatively impact your aim with a gun or otherwise effect your ability to multitask, note that you are capable of maneuvering land vehicles to the best of your ability even while you are engaged with no more than 1 other simple task such as typing and sending a text message or aiming and firing a gun. ``` ``` ## Feats Characters adventuring and advancing in Sci-Fi settings are often forced to adapt to the technologies therein. When you make an ability check that allows you to add your proficiency with land vehicles to the roll, your proficiency bonus is doubled assuming you are not already benefitting from a similar effect that causes your proficiency with land vehicles to double. If your Dungeon Master would rule that actively driving a car would negatively impact your aim with a gun or otherwise effect your ability to multitask, note that you are capable of maneuvering land vehicles to the best of your ability even while you are engaged with no more than 1 other simple task such as typing and sending a text message or aiming and firing a gun. ### Ripperdoc When you first take this Feat you become proficient in Medicine and with Medicine Kits. You are considered capable of Installing Cyberware. If a creature wishes to have Cyberware installed or uninstalled you can tend to them, remaining within 10 ft. of them while they do not move for the duration of a short rest. When the short rest ends the Cyberware installation or uninstallation is complete without need of an ability check from you to resolve the process. \page # Races ## Android *"The Solecism robbed us of entire cultures, entire peoples and histories tragically faded into irrecoverability at the tip of a sword. Even today we still bicker, debating whether or not the free will and the feelings Androids demonstrate are genuine things or just another imitation as convincing as their humanoid appearances. Regardless, the line between organic and inorganic has been blurred to the point of transparency and now the Android exists on either side. So ask yourself, Android, do you have free will? ### Android Features and Traits ***Ability Score Increase*** Your Intelligence, Strength, and Dexterity scores increase by 1. ***Age*** In Veaux, thanks to the The Goodness You've Grown program, some Androids do experience some form of aging, but the vast majority of Androids are constructed to resemble a humanoid creature of a certain age and never visually mature beyond that. So long as an Android is maintained it can never die of old age alone. ***Creature Type*** You are both a Humanoid and a Construct. ***Size*** The average Android individual stands somewhere between 5 and 7 feet tall. Your size is Medium. ***Speed*** Your base walking speed is 30 feet. ***Languages*** You can speak, read, and write Common and Binary. ***Mechanical Constitution.*** You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe. You are immune to disease. You don't need to sleep, and magic cannot put you to sleep. ***Nightly Recharge*** When you take a long rest, you must spend at least six hours in an inactive, motionless state, rather than sleeping. In this state, you appear inert, but it doesn’t render you unconscious, and you can see and hear as normal. ``` ``` ## Languages ***Binary*** Binary is the language spoken and understood by computers, a language defined by sequences of 1s and 0s which represent the concept of "yes" and "no" respectively. In either case, your crew needs their ghost in the machine. At 1st level you can perform the *Hack* Action at a distance of 60 ft. from the target of your hack so long as your target is a creature or object that you can see. Additionally, you can attempt to hack a creature or object when all you can see is a live image of them as long as they are within your Hacking range of whatever is capturing that live image. For example, if you can Hack at a distance of 120 ft. and can see a creature equipped with Cyberware on a monitor displaying the live feed from a nearby camera, so long as that creature is within 120 ft. of that camera you can attempt to hack them. With this ability it becomes possible to hack other cameras through live camera feeds, potentially allowing you to jump from one camera to another. \page Additionally, starting at 1st Level as an Action you can select any number of willing creatures within 30 ft. of you, performing an instant hack which renders the technology in their eyes percievable to you. To you the eyes of these creatures function like cameras, allowing you to perform the *Hack* Action on them. Among other things this allows you to stream the vision of your allies to a monitor in your possession, staying with them even at a distance. This effect lasts until an effected creature is no longer willing or until you use this Action again. Finally, your Hack Save DC includes your proficiency bonus in addition to the normal 8 + your Intelligence Modifier. ## Establish Firewall: As a hacker yourself you know that nothing's scarier than a hacker. You've learned to cover your tracks and to set up some firewalls. Starting at 1st Level as an Action you can select any number of willing creatures and/or objects that you can Hack within your Hacking range that you can see and establish a Firewall within them. A creature or an object can only have a single Firewall established within it, of a Firewall already exists within a creature or object, whether it is yours or isn't, you cannot establish a Firewall within it. You can select yourself. A Firewall remains established within a creature or object until it is destroyed, until you dismiss it (no Action required), or until you use this ability again. Once you have used this ability you cannot do so again until you have finished a long rest. When a creature other than you successfully hacks a creature or object in which you have established a Firewall before the result of their Hack can occur they must first make an Intelligence Saving Throw against your Hack Save DC. This is referred to as triggering a Firewall. Whenever a creature triggers one of your Firewalls you immediately know which one was triggered and whether the creature that triggered the Firewall succeeded or failed the ensuing Saving Throw. Upon a success the triggered Firewall is destroyed and the creature can continue with their Hack unimpeded. Upon a failure the creature's successful Hack instead becomes a failure and the Firewall remains. Starting at 7th Level, when a creature fails a Saving Throw triggered by one of your Firewalls you immediately learn of the triggering creature's precise location at the time that the Firewall was triggered. Starting at 13th Level, as a Reaction when a creature fails a Saving Throw triggered by one of your Firewalls you can cause a live display of the triggering creature to appear before you, visible only to you, and attempt to Hack the triggering creature as though performing the *Hack* Action, all as part of the same reaction. ## Tendency: The term "Netrunner" decribes a wide variety of hackers, mercenaries, and gamers. At 2nd Level you choose a Tendency, a style of play that you tend toward. The Tendency you choose grants you features at 2nd, 6th, and 14th Level. ``` ``` ## The Field Hacker Field Hackers put the "runner" in Netrunner. Less of a ghost in the machine, those who tend toward field hacking are more of a beast in an arena, a frighteningly cunning beast utilizing their hacks in tandem with acrobatics and martial arts to navigate combat and cut a path through the field for their crew to follow. As a Field Hacker yourself, you benefit from the following: - Starting at 2nd Level whenever you use the *Hack* Action you can choose to use it as a Bonus Action instead of as an Action. - Starting at 6th level, when you attempt to Hack a creature that is unaware of your location, that creature makes the ensuing Saving Throw with disadvantage. - Starting at 14th level, whenever you successfully Hack a creature, you regain a number of Hit Points equal to the number of Hit Dice the hacked creature has. ## The Chair Jockey Chair Jockeys tend to be reclusive and introverted. Though usually fearful of combat, Chair Jockeys define "ghost in the machine". A Chair Jockey might shut down a factory or empty a gang hideout from the comfort of their room. As a Chair Jockey yourself you benefit from the following: - Starting at 2nd Level you can spend a short rest modifying a nonmagical chair or similar implement of reclination, remaining within 5 ft. of it for the duration of the short rest. If you do so successfully, when the short rest ends the implement is converted into your Home Console. You can only have one Home Console at a time, if you use this ability to create a Home Console while you already have one the modifications made to the previous Home Console vanish and the implement is restored to mundanity. Once you have used this ability you cannot do so again until you have finished a long rest. While you are seated or reclined within your Home Console your Proficiency Bonus is doubled. - Starting at 6th Level, whenever you successfully hack a creature or object you can attempt to hack another creature or object that you can see so long as they are within your hacking range of the creature or object you hacked before them. You cannot hack the same creature or object twice in one turn using this ability, however. - Starting at 14th Level whenever you successfully hack a creature or object and hence can attempt to hack another, while you select the target of that hack you can treat yourself as though you are seeing from the space of the creature or object that you most recently hacked, potentially allowing you to hack a target that you cannot see from your own space but that you would be able to see were you percieving from the space of the creature or object that you most recently hacked. \page ## Surveillance Camouflage At 3rd Level you gain the ability to shield yourself and your allies from surveillance. As an Action you can select a number of willing creatures within your Hacking range that you can see (including live images) up to your Proficiency Bonus. You can select yourself. These creatures become invisible to cameras of every kind, failing to appear on any monitor displaying the feed of any camera. This effect lasts until you finish a long rest. Once you have used this ability you cannot use it again until you have finished a long rest. When a creature that is aware that you or your allies are shielded in this way successfully hacks either you or an ally shielded in this way they can choose to end this effect on that creature early. ## Initial Hack Expansion Starting at 5th Level, whenever a creature within your Hacking range that you can see attempts to hack something, as a Reaction you can attempt to interrupt the hack. When you do, both you and the hacking creature make an Intelligence check. If the results of both rolls are the same you both attempt the check again and so on until one roll is greater than another. If the result of your roll is greater than your opponent's their hack automatically fails. If the result of your opponent's roll is greater than yours they are free to continue attempting their hack unimpeded. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain spent uses of this ability once you have finished a long rest. ## Intermediate Hack Expansion Starting at 11th Level, whenever you successfully hack a creature or object you can Ping it. When you Ping a creature or object you can select up to 8 creatures that you are familiar with and that are willing to recieve the Ping. Of the creatures that you select, those willing to recieve the Ping instantly learn of the precise location of the creature or object that you Pinged as it was at the time that you Pinged it. Additionally, whenever you successfully hack a creature you can choose to Expose it. When you Expose a creature you make it so that the creature has vulnerability to all of the damage of the next attack that hits it. Once the creature has been hit by an attack it is no longer Exposed. You can Expose a creature once. Once you have done so you cannot do so again until you have finished a long rest. ## Final Hack Expansion Starting at 17th Level, whenever you successfully hack a creature, as a Reaction you can attempt to outright kill them. When you do, if the creature has fewer than 100 Hit Points, it dies. Otherwise, this ability has no effect. Once you have used this ability you must finish a long rest before you can use it again. ``` ``` ## Net Mastery Starting at 20th Level whenever you attempt to Hack an object or creature you automatically succeed. If Firewalls exist established within your target you automatically succeed on the ensuing Saving Throw.

While a pilot is inside the Mech's Core they are not visible from outside, making it so that they cannot be targeted by effects that require line of sight. The pilot sees and hears from the Mech via cameras and microphones that relay audio and video into the core. While the Mech is Blinded or Deafened it is not relaying the audio or video respectively. The Mech does not have an Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma score of its own. If the Mech is ever required to use these abilities it uses its Pilot's Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma score instead. The Mech is proficient in the same skills as its Pilot in addition to its own. > > ***Mech Components.*** The Mech is composed of different components including its head, core, right and left arm, and right and left leg. Each component shares the Mech's Armor Class and Damage Threshold, and each has 100 Hit Points. When a piece is reduced to 0 Hit Points it is destroyed. If a weapon or ability is associated with a piece, it can no longer be used once that piece is destroyed. > > ***Component: Head*** The Head gives the Mech its senses. While the head is in tact the Mech can toggle a floodlight on or off at will that, while active, illuminates everything in front of it for 120 ft. in bright light. Additionally, while the head is in tact the Mech has darkvision and, of course, can see. If the head is destroyed, the Mech loses its floodlight and is Blinded until such a time as the head is restored. > > ***Component: Core*** The Core is the place from which the pilot operates the Mech. A pilot can enter or exit the Core as an Action as long as they can move, touch the Core, and the Core has at least 1 Hit Point. While a pilot is inside the Core it cannot be accessed except by force. A creature can attempt to force open the Core if they can move, touch the core, and it has at least 1 Hit Point. If they do, they must make an Athletics Check (DC 19). If they successfully force open the core it makes it so that the pilot can be seen by anyone who can see the core until such a time as the core is restored. If the core is destroyed while a pilot is inside it they can attempt to eject as a reaction, however if they are unsuccessful or cannot take reactions they are subject to the Mech's generator explosion. The pilot must make a Constitution Saving Throw (DC 19), taking 32 (8d6) Fire damage upon a failure, or half as much upon a success. > > ### Actions > > ***Multiattack.*** The Mech uses its Missile Salvo, if available, before making two attacks, choosing between its Wristgun, Laser Scythe, and Laser Lance. > > ***Wristgun, Right Arm, Hand.*** *Ranged Weapon Attack* +11 to hit, range 100/200 ft., one target. Hit: 21 (3d8 + 6) Fire damage. > > ***Laser Scythe, Left Arm, Hand.*** *Melee Weapon Attack* +13 to hit, reach 20 ft., one target. Hit: 23 (3d8 + 8) Slashing damage. If the Mech hits a creature that is Stunned with this attack it is automatically a Critical Hit. > > ***Laser Lance, Left Arm, Shoulder.*** The Mech thrusts forward, propelled by boosters attached to its lance, in a line 100 ft. long and 20 ft. wide. Every creature caught in the line must make a Constitution Saving Throw. Upon a failure they take 16 (4d6) bludgeoning damage and are Stunned until the beginning of their next turn. Upon a success they take half as much damage and are not stunned. > > ***Missile Salvo, Right Arm, Shoulder (Recharge 5-6).*** The Mech launches up to 6 missiles from the salvo on its right shoulder, each of which land at a different point within 300 ft. of the Mech that it can see. Every creature within 15 ft. of any such point must make a Dexterity Saving Throw (DC 19). Upon a failure a creature takes 24 (6d6) Fire damage for every point that they were within 15 ft. of or half as much upon a successful save. > > ***Eject.*** The pilot is launched out of the core to a height 50 ft. above the Mech. If they collide with anything along the way they stop early and take 4 (1d6) bludgeoning damage for every 10 ft. they traveled prior to collision. Once ejected, they begin to float gently downward. At the end of each of their turns they float down 25 ft. until they come to a rest on a surface, the pilot cancels the floating early (no action required), or something knocks them out of the air. > > ### Reactions > > ***Eject.*** If the Mech's Core component is destroyed while the pilot is inside, the pilot can attempt to eject in time. The pilot must make a Dexterity Saving Throw of a DC equal to the amount of damage that reduced the core to 0 Hit Points. Upon a success, they eject *just* before the core is destroyed. > > ### Legendary Actions > The Mech can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The Mech regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn. > > ***Wristgun.*** The Mech uses its Wristgun > > ***Laser Lance.*** The Mech uses its Laser Lance \page Bond forger has an intelligence, wisdom, charisma of 15 +2, 18 +4, and 15 +2 respectively. She is proficicent with survival, history, acrobatics, stealth, all intelligence stuff, and all nature and farming stuff. She's proficient in Wisdom and Intelligence Saving Throws. She's armed with a pistol in her mech as well as augmented to be sturdier and well off in hand to hand combat.
