\page # Chapter 2: Rules of the Trade In **DMC: Slice and Dice** you have two types of players. The first are the players. You need at least one player to play the game. As a player, your choices, actions, and at times, luck change how the game progresses and your character is the protagonist of whatever story your Storyteller has prepared for you and your friends to slice and dice through. Speaking of the Storyteller, the Storyteller is the group member who in response to what you do, tells you the result of what happens, usually dictated by the result of a d6. While you can play without a Storyteller, you will face a lot of difficulties, unfairness and bias. We recommend the Storyteller of any group has a good idea of the rules, of the lore of Devil May Cry #### The Two Golden Rules This book contains quite a few rules, and it’s easy for one to get lost, especially if one isn’t used to role-playing games of this type. In other cases, certain rules might not fit well with the way your group prefers to play. Both of these cases can slow down, or otherwise harm, the gaming experience for a group. To combat this, keep in mind these two golden rules above all others. First, **if a certain rule is slowing play down too much, just stop using it**. Second, **if you want to change something, do it**. While we have done our best to provide a ruleset that should be acceptable, nobody knows what works for your group ### Rolling **DMC: Slice and Dice** uses a d6 Dice Pool System where you get a group of d6s (Six Sided Dice) and see how many successes you get. A success is a result of 4 or higher unless stated otherwise (See Demeanor.) The storyteller might ask you to roll a pool of d6s called a Trial when you want your character to do something that might fail or if it has some sort of problem (E.g Vertically walking a 40 Meter wall, trying to type a message on the phone while being shot by all sides.) Usually a dice pool will be composed of the amount of Ranks you got in a Skill, unless it is for combat (See Combat.) In a Trial, you are trying to meet a specific amount of Successes, called the Target Number. If the amount of successes you got are more or equal as the Target Number then the Trial succeeds, if you have less successes than the Target Number then the Trial fails. If you get more than two 6s and you succeed the Trial, then it is considered a critical success, meaning that whatever you try to do you succeed extremely well at it. If you roll more than two 1s and you fail the Trial, it is considered a Critical Failure and something really bad happens. An example for both of these is like jumping off a building riding a bike and fall with the bike not getting damaged for a Critical Success or You firing a shotgun and the recoil makes you fall prone while also missing the shot. ``` ``` ### Combat At the beginning of combat, you roll two pools, the Action Pool (Swordmaster/ Melle + Gunslinger/ Firearms) and the Defence Pool (Royal Guard/ Parry + Trickster/ Dodge) Each turn, you roll your pools separately. Any die that comes up 4+ (3+ if you're Focused) counts as an point. You spend Action points to do a normal attack with your weapon and use special moves. Defense points are used when it's not your turn to use dodge-style moves. #### Combos Combos When you make a successful action in combat, you start a Combo. The combo continues until you get hit in combat, or miss more than once. When you kill a monster, you get a number of Red Orbs (xp) equal to it's xp value times your Combo level: ***Dull*** (5 hits) = x2 ***Crazy*** (7 hits)= x3 ***Bravo*** (12 hits) = x4 ***Awesome*** (17 hits) = x5 ***Showtime!*** (21+ hits) = x6 Stylish characters combo easier...their combo numbers are 3/5/7/12/17 Also, if you repeat the same move twice, without a different move between them, that move does not count towards the combo. You gotta mix it up to keep going. In addition to that there is Damage Types which is just a cosmetic way of explaining how the weapon damages the Demon. These types are Penetrating, Bruising, Slashing. For example, Rebellion would deal Slashing damage or a weapon like Cerberus would deal Brusing Damage. #### Initiative At the start of combat, the characters each roll a d100 and each Demon Too. Whoever rolled the Highest goes first, then the one wiwth the second Highest goes next. #### Movement Movement is freeform, meaning instead of having a Hex-Grid or a square grid you use a tape measurer, like in some Tabletop Wargames like *Warhammer 40k*. We suggest you use a measurer in Inches for bigger distances but if your county does not use the imperial system, count 1m as two centimeters. In order to move more than once you need to spend 1 AP #### Miscellaneous Actions Other Actions might be done in combat, such as pulling levers, entering vehicles, and other mundane actions. These actions do not use Action Points, even if the Storyteller believe this might require a Trial. Jumping is a common thing in Devil May Cry. You use to to dodge hits, do aerial combos and moves and dodge. In DMC: Slice and Dice Jumping is not as important, mostly used in moves as miscellaneaous stuff. Usually doing stuff like parkour is a trial but normal jumps are not. \page #### Blocking and Dodging When it is the Demon's Turn and they attack you, if you got enough Defence Points (Or DP), you can attemp to block or dodge a hit. If you dont you can try to do a Parry or Dodge Trial with the Target Number being the Amount of damage the hit will do. #### Effects Some attacks by demons can deal different effects on the characters. The effects one can contract are Burning, Poisoned, Frozen, Zapped, Stunned, Prone, Grappled and Unconcious. The first four can be inflicted by different attacks by Demons, Burning means every round you take 1 Point of Damage until you succeed an Agility Trial with a Target of 1. Poisoned means for a set amount of rounds you get dealt a set amount of damage. Frozen means your speed is halved and you get damaged (To a minimum of 1 Meter of Movement and rounded up to the lowest result), and zapped means you get stunned for one round unless you succeed a Brawn Trial with a Targer of 1. The following effects can be dealt to demons. When you get stunned it means your next turned is skipped unless the stun lasts for longer. Prone means you are on the floor, cannot attack or move but still dodge and you get up on your next turn. Grappled means someone is restraining you, meaning you cannot do anything unless you succeed a Brawn or Agility Trial with a Target equal to the Brawn of the one grappling you. #### Moves You can spend Red Orbs to buy moves. The Moves you can buy depend on your Style levels. You can use Swordmaster and Gunslinger moves when it is your turn and Royal Guard and Trickster when it is the Demon's Turn.

##### Combat Example Two Empusas ambush Dante in an alleyway. Dante's Player rolls a d100 and gets a 78 while the Storyteller rolls for the Empusas, rolling a 12 and a 19. Danter rolls for his Action Pool and gets a 3, a 2, two 1's and a 4. Because Dante is Stylish, he gets 2 Action points. He attacks one of the Empusas with Ebony and Ivory, dealing two damage to it. The second Action Points is used to do the Stinger move on the other Empusa shiskebabing it and dealing 4 Damage. Dante's turn ends and it is the Empusa's Turn but before they attack, Dante rolls for his Defense Pool. He gets two 3's and two 1's. The Storyteller attacks dante with the spiky hands of the Empusa but Dante uses his Defense Point to dodge the hit with a dash. The Empusa will attack Dante again but Dante will parry with Royal Guard.. It is again Dabte's turn and he rolls three 4's and a 1. He uses one of his Action Points to do Executioner's Line, hitting both Empusas and he does the same move again. He kills one of the Empusas and then stingers the other one, stabbing it again and killing it. He managed to get 7 hits by the end of combat, meaning his combo rating is Crazy, doubling the red Orbs he gets.

### Death When a character reaches 0 Hit Points, they fall unconcious. This means they cannot move until the end of the fight, which they regain 5 Hit Points. If during this unconcious stage they take any damage, they die. When a character dies, they cannot be played. However, with the use of a Yellow Orb you can revive dead characters and bring people who are unconcious to full Health. ### Move List The following is a list of all the moves you can pick from. As mentioned before, you need to have at least one rank in a style to pick from its move list. #### Swordmaster Moves: ____ Rank One Moves **Stinger** (5000 Orbs, Penetration Weapon Needed) Your Character moves double his movement in a straight line until it hits something, which upon impact deals Penetration damage equal to double the weapon's damage. (1 AP) **Hook Grab** (7500 Orbs) Your Character Grabs nearby demon and throws up in the air, dealing half as much damage but throws the enemy up in the air until the Characters next turn. (1 AP) **Fan Swipe** (7500 Orbs) Your Character spins in a circle, hitting all adjacent enemies within 5 Meters of him, dealing whatever damage the weapon he is wielding does. (1 AP) **Air Hike** (10000 Orbs) Your Character mid jump falls to the ground, pushing adjacent demons 5 Meters back, dealing 1 Point of Bruising Damage and rendering the demons prone but not the character. (1 AP) **Swarm of Fists** (9000 Orbs, Worn Weapon Needed) You unleash a flurry of fists that deal four times as much damage on a singular target which is minced meat by the end of the fight. (1 AP) **Jawbreaker** (5000 Orbs, Worn Weapon Needed) You break a Demon's jaw wide open, dealing quadruple damage. (1 AP) --- Rank Two Moves **Slippery When Wet** (12000 Orbs) Your Character slides in a straight line, hitting any demon adjacent to that line. Any demon successfully hit falls prone and is deal damage equal to the weapon the character is using. (1 AP) **Mirror Ripple** (13000 Orbs) Your Character shoves his weapon in the floor and picks as many areas as up to the amount of Double the Action Points he has at that turn. (2 AP) **Deadly Strike** (12000 Orbs) Your Character spins his weapon in the air before unleashing a devastating strike on the demon's weak spot, dealing normal damage but making it so that until the characters next turn, any hit becomes a Critical Hit. (2 AP) **Hedge of Spikes** (14000 Orbs, Penetrating Weapon Needed) Your Characters weapon dissapears and surrounds him with multiple copies of it, stabbing any demon nearby him for double damage. (2 AP) **Pulverizing Requiem** (14000 Orbs, Bruising Weapon Needed) Your Character strikes demon for an automatic hit that deals four times as much damage. If the demon does not die outright, he instead falls prone and the damage is still dealt. (2 AP) \page --- Rank 2 Moves (Cont.) **Butcher Slit** (13000 Orbs) You make an enemy drop to the ground, then roll a d4. You then get to do that many hits for free and can do as many hits as you want after that by soending an extra 1 AP. (1 AP) **Roulette Spin** Any Demon within your weapons range in a circle --- Rank Three Moves **Atom Bomb** (21000 Orbs, Fire Weapon Needed) Your Character shoves weapon in the ground and a large explosion centered at him that reaches 10 Meters in a circle around him hits everything he wants to be hit. The Character and whatever he does not want to hit take no damage but the demons take 20 Damage and fall prone if not dead. (3 AP) **Quicksilver** (30000 Orbs, Slicing/Penetrating Weapon Needed) Your Character moves five times his speed an can attack up to five demons one time, or five times one demon etc. (3 AP) **Dice 'Em** (20000 Orbs, Slicing Needed) Your Character slices a 5 by 5 Meter square into the air and for a straight line up to 15 Meters long. Any demon in that line is dealt as much damage as the weapon does and is thrown back 15 Meters. (3 AP) **Controlled Throw** (25000 Orbs) Your Character throws the weapon he is wielding and the weapon attacks by itself. It can attack up to the amount of Action points the wielder had when he threw the weapon and the weapon returns when the thrower wants or when the thrower gets damaged. (2 AP) **Let there be Blood** (25000 Orbs) Your Character critically hits a demon with his weapon. If there is a demon within 3 Meters of the hit demon, then he critically hits that demon and this process repeats until there are either no demons alive or he cant reach any demons. (3 AP) #### Gunslinger Moves: Rank One Moves **Double Aim** (2000 Orbs, One Handed Weapon Needed) Your character can shoot two enemies with one hit for normal damage. (1 AP) **Focused Aim** (5000 Orbs) Your character finds the weak spot of a demon, making the hit an automatic critical. (1 AP) **Executioner's Line** (7500 Orbs) Your character draws a straight line up to the gun's range, any demon in that line is hit and takes normal damage. (1 AP) **Overheated Shot** (7500 Orbs) Your character deals four times as much damage with a normal shot. (2 AP) --- Rank Two Moves **Bulletstorm** (12000 Orbs) Your character spins around and releases a barrage of bullets, hitting anything that is around him. (2 AP) **Bouncy Shells** (14000 Orbs) Your character can hit up to three enemies with a single hit. (2 AP) **Full Metal Jacket** (14000 Orbs) Your character's gun's damage is doubled until his next round. (2 AP) **Ricochet** (14000 Orbs) Once you hit a Demon, you can use an extra AP to hit an extra target. (1 AP) ``` ``` --- Rank Three Moves **Bodyboard** (17000 Orbs) The character kicks a demon to the ground dealing one damage. If the demon is not killed outright, the character uses the demon as a board and takes one damage for every meter moved until he is killed. The character can still shoot and be hit and if he is hit he releases the demon. (2 AP) **Deadeye** (18000 Orbs) The character finds the spot for an instant kill, pick a demon and the shot deals six times as much damage and if the demon is not killed outright, the next attack against that demon will deal four times as much damage. (3 AP) #### Royal Guard Moves: Rank One Moves **Block** (Free) You break the attack with a counterpunch, halving the damage dealt. (1 DP) --- Rank Two Moves **Riposte** (6000 Xp) When you get hit by an opponent and you use this move, you get to do a normal attack (2 DP) **Absorb** (5000 Xp) You absorb half damage from the attack, roll a d6. On a 5+ you get healed by half the damage you absorbed to a minimum of 1 Hit Point) (2 DP) --- Rank Three Moves **Royal Release** (12000 Orbs) Write down all the damage you have Blocked, at any point you can release all the damage you have vlocked into a singular, powerful strike. (3 AP) #### Trickster Moves: Rank One Moves **Dash** (Free) You can move twice your speed, this can also be counted as a dodge-roll if you want. (1 DP) --- Rank Two Moves: **Powerdash** (2000 Orbs) You can move up to four times your speed. (1 DP) --- Rank Three Moves: **Transmission** (8000 Orbs) You teleport behind a demon. You need to be able to see where the demon is and he must be within Ten Times your Movement score. (3 DP) **Doppelganger** (10000 Orbs) When a demon attacks you, a spectral visage of you takes the hit and allows you to do a normal attack back at them. (1 AP + 1 DP) ### Making your own moves. If your Storyteller allows it, you can make your own moves and how they work. It is up to the Storyteller to aproove them and their AP or DP and Orb Cost. If during the duration of the game the Storyteller wants to nerf the move, discuss it with the storyteller to see what can be more balanced but suit what the player wants.

\page # Chapter 3: Roleplaying Rules There is a reason this game is a Role-Playing Game. Devil May Cry is not a game which you play as one singular character in a scripted story. In Rolepaying games and hopefully this game, you play as a group of Devil Hunters, sent in different adventures usually with a theme or overarching story, like the Devil May Cry anime adaptation. This game is supposed to be like Call of Cthulhu in a way, wher you play as characters who investigate and fight otherwordly things and dangers, in this case demons. The game is more combat heavy than other ones, which you try to do combos, have moves, can turn into a stronger form and fight hordes and hordes of enemies but can have moments where you can Roleplay or even have a Roleplay Heavy Game too. ### Branches and Locations In the games, Devil May Cry is a sort of organization, with different branches in different locations of the world. In this game you are a Branch of the organization. There are no special rules for playing as a branch of a specific location and stuff but usually the location determines what kind of stuff you have access to. For example, if you play in a rich country you might have access to better equipment like good computers, vehicles and other stuff. If you are in a less rich country you might don't even get to get a computer and vehicles are owned by the 1%. You do not have to play in an existing country or city like London or Brazil for example, all the Devil May Cry games are set in fictional locations in the modern world like Fortuna or Red Grave City. ### Roleplaying Between Players There are not many rules for that nor there should be. They can play as their characters talking and interacting with eachother. However, we suggest for Storytellers to not condone PvP without consent and for Players to not do PvP unless both players consent to it. ### Roleplaying Between NPCs Like the last segment, there are not many rules about Roleplaying. It is up for to the Storyteller and Players to say how the conversation will go. Combat between NPCs and Players is not major thing. However, the act of Murderhoboing, where a player for no reason kills a friendly or even indifferent NPC should not be tolerated. If the storyteller says that the NPC is hostile against them, the Players have motivation and maybe a good reason to attack the NPC. ### Downtime Downtime is the small amount of time your character has to train and do their own things. Things like repairing vehicles to get in peak condition, crafting weapons and training are things you can do in your Downtime. it is the best for everyone in the table to say the Storyteller what they do in their Downtime and it happens instantly, no need for any Roleplaying in between or taking up time from the rest of the session's time. ### Social Encounters Not all encounters are combat, some might be all about Roleplaying. This can be some sort of confrontation like a mugger trying to mug a character or the police questioning the characters as to why they got guns and weapons on them. Some Social encounters can turn into combat, but not all of them should.

##### Social Encounter Example Kain and Sokol go through a shortcut in an alley to chase a Riot. While running they encounter a drunk man who is blocking their way, refusing to allow them to pass. Sokol speaks. S: "Move away mister" DM: "Noooehhhh, I am not allowing YOU to passeeeee-" S: "Sir, move away or we will have to make you move" DM: "YOU WONT TOUCH ME LIQUOR!" K: "He is high as a kite, lets just go the other way." S: "We might lose the demon, we need to go from there." DM: "Daemon? Whazzyal talking bout?" S: I want to push the Drunk Man away. ST: You don't have to roll, the Drunk Man moves away when you approach him. DM: "Havve a gewddd day sirzzz." S: "This was pointless. Lets go Kain!" K: "Lets find that Sonic the Hedgehog cosplayer and shoot him to hell!"

### When to use skills There are not only physical skills, there are also social skills. Sometimes, a guard might be too inquisitive and you really need to enter the storage room cause there is some live Marionettes there that he does not know about, or your might need to seduce your way to the disguised demon's VIP floor. Usualy, you are required to roll when you can't achieve something with only words you utter. Maybe you need to scare, persuade or even lie your way to your goal, which can fail if the one you are trying to talk to is too insightful or you are not so charismatic ### Time Time in Devil May Cry has been an abstract concept of sorts. You can scale the Temen-Ni Gru in just over a day and can take 10 Minutes of walking to enter the Qliphoth. Be realistic with the time though, but not too realistic so the game does not drag on forever. \page ### Scale of a Campaign All games have a general sense of Scale. Basically, how impactful are the events of the story and the choices you make in it. There are 5 Tiers we have made which each campaign fits in and genreally is used as a compass for bothhow strong the characters in the story have to be and the scale of each Campaign. Tier 1: Devils in the Basement. Campaigns of this scale are almost not seen by anyone and do minimal damage to the world around them. Tier 2: Troublemaking Devils. Campaigns of this scale are generally a bit more impactful and mistakes can be dangerous. Tier 3: Threat to the Public. Campaigns of this scale are generally seen by the public and are far more impactful and destructive. Tier 4: Apocalyptic. Campaigns of this scale can impact entire continents or even the world and are extremely important that problem like these are solved as soon as possible. Tier 5: Hell on Earth. Campaigns of this scale affect the entire world and can be worldending, they also must be very difficult. ### Making Missions As the storyteller you are charged with making a series of Missions and challenges for your players to overcome. These stories can be connected or be one-shot jobs with no interconnected plot. Some examples of stories are: - A Group of Empusas have taken over a Campsite and have taken boy scouts captives. - A Ritual to open a Hell Gate is in process somewhere in the city. Reports say that weird people are seen commuting in an abandoned building somewhere in dwontown. - Your Headquarters was set ablazed by a gang of terrorists. One of them died by the fire and appears to have been Quarter Demon and he has a map of the city with some directions to an abandoned church. All Missions have to have some specific elements. These are the following. Firstly, your main base of operations is in a city. Secondly, all problems are demon related. Lastly, great dangers and apocalyptic threats are possible. Things like a Qliphoth tree emerging, the Return of Mundus and an extremely powerful demon and his army trying to take over the world are such apocalyptic events that can happen.

##### Example Mission A Terrified Mother has contacted your Branch about her child being lost in an Amusement park, it appears more cases were reported to the police but she is sure she saw a demon do it. She wants you to go there any find her child, killing every demon there in the process.

``` ``` ### Episodic Missions vs Linear Missions Episodic Missions are Campaigns that each session has its own story until a certain session, which is usually when the real plot kicks in, think of it like a TV series like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or any Anime, some filler at the start and plot at the end. Linear Mission are campaigns that start and end with a plot, these are like D&D Campaigns. We suggest you make something you and your players like and find fun. ### Antagonists, Bosses and Villains In the game, you will face many people who will try to stop you from achieving your goal, these are the Antagonists. Antagonists do not have to be inherently evil but Hostile for sure. An example atagonist can be a Bounty Hunter who is hunting one of the characters cause he did a Crime long ago and he is here to collect the reward. A Boss is a minion or underling of the main villain that is very strong, and may even be stronger than the main villain. They will try to kill the enmies or try to stop them in any way. The Villain is the big bad evil guy of the story. The Villain is usually very strong with a plan, usually opening a big portal to the underwrold or something similar. ### Non Player Characters Through the duration of any session or game, the characters will encounter not only demons and rivals but non-player characters that will most probably be indifferent to the characters or even friendly. It is not very hard to make them. Just think of a normal person and how they would react to the characters. Friendly Non-Player characters are usually people who the characters know or have a shared goal, trait or connection, though they might turn indifferent dependng on a character's actions. Indifferent Non-Player Characters are people who do not know the characters or do not trust them fully. It is important to note that indifferent NPC's can turn into Friendly and Hostile. Hostile NPC's will usually not try to help the characters but does not need to attack or hurt the characters. Rarely will Hostile NPC's change their disposition to the characters. ### Locations The Location of where the Mission will take place is quite imporant. It usually sets up expectations for the characters and creates a theme that the villains and bosses they will fight be like. Some example locations can be an Amusement park, a Prison, an Abandoned Mansion, the Sewers, an Island Castle, a Church etc. \page # Chapter 4: Character Creation In DMC: Slite and Dice you create your own hunter as mentioned before. A Devil Hunter is supposed to be strong but we attempt to play what you find fun. If you try to Min-Max you might not enjoy the character you play and get bored in the game In order to make a “legal” character, you must follow the steps, not in order but follow the steps. ### Step 1.Species You begin by picking a species. Eeach species gives you a unique amount of points to spend on each thing, these "things" being Skills, Styles and Moves.

*Used for buying starting moves #### Hybrids Hybrids are children of Demons and Humand, they are very rare, being only four of them in Devil May Cry, those being Dante, Vergil, Nero and Matier. You can be Half-Demon or Quarter Demon, each with their own perks. #### Half-Demon As a Half-Demon Hybrid, you gain the following features ▪ You get 4 Ranks to split between Styles ▪ You get Devil Trigger ▪ You get 20 Ranks to split between Skills ▪ You start with 30 Hit Points #### Quarter-Demon As a Quarter-Demon Hybrid, you gain the following features ▪ You get 3 Ranks to Split between Styles ▪ You get Devil Trigger ▪ You get 25 Ranks to split between Skills ▪ You start with 25 Hit Points #### Humans Humans are the most common of the bunch. They do not get as many cool abilities as the other races but are very versatile and have more advanced skills. ▪ You get 2 Ranks to split between Styles ▪ You get 30 Ranks to split between Skills ▪ You have 20 Hit Points ### Step 2. Style There are four Styles in the game, each rated from 0-3: **Swordmaster** Represents your skill with melee weapons and how good you are at using them. **Gunslinger** Represents your skills with firearms and how good you are at using them. **Trickster** Represents your dodging skills and also how dexterous you are. **Royal Guard** Represents your parrying skills and your tanking capability. A level of 0 represents little to no ability in that area, 1 is top human ability, 2 is superhuman, and 3 is master. You get 4 to 2 Ranks depending on your species to split between your styles at creation. Additional levels can be bought later. ### Step 3. Attitude and Personality Each character also has a Demeanor, which is a one-word description of the way they act in combat. Each attitude gives a bonus to a certain area. **Stylish**: characters (like Dante) are damn good, and everyone knows it. Their cocky attitude can be a pain, but they get the job done, and look damn good doing it. Stylish characters get a +15% Red Orb bonus from combos. **Broody**: characters (like Virgil) are your moody loner swordsmen types. They tend to bring everyone else down with their depressing attitude. Broody tend to be a little more focused on their training, and can buy moves with a 15% Decrease. **Manic**: characters are just happy to be killing demons and blood of demons and men alike everywhere (This does not mean they will kill people at random). Manic characters get a +2 to damage they deal **Focused**: characters like Lady want to destroy something of someone, and God help anyone who gets in their way. Focused characters get extra actions during combat. ___ Personality is how they behave around people. They do not give bonuses to specific things but gives Storytellers and Players a small description of how they behave. ___ **Leader** is a person that considers himself the man in charge and has potential to be. He is usually Strong, Positive and the Face of the Branch. ___ **Edgelord** is the guy who will do and say the most edgy things possible. He can be compared to the loner although the Edgelord is annoying as hell to everyone but himself or other Edgelords. ___ **Idiot** is the guy who is not very good at doing more advanced stuff but whatever thing that does not require anything more than a Highschool diploma he can do. ___ **Smartass** is the mister "Know-it All". He will act as the smartest in the group (Which can be true) sometimes but will not do much to prove it. ___ **Good Guy/Gal** are people who are just fun to be around. No special thing about them but people are usually having fun when they are with them. ___ **Loner** is the person who prefers to do stuff alone and likes to keep to himself. He isn't edgy but he is a bit introverted. \page ___ **Comedian** is the guy who cracks jokes, well crafted insults and roasts to everyone without being offensive. They, like the Good Guy/ Gal, are fun to be around. ___ **Seducer** is the heartbraker, the man who tries to make everyone fall in love with him. He can be weird at times but if he does the job why not keep him. ___ **Jerk** is the biggest asshole around. He is mean to everyone and he thinks he is hot shit while he is not. ___ **Nerd** the guy who likes things like video games and stuff. He is usually harmless but he can be helpful at times. ### Step 4. Luck, Movement and Health. In addition to all the stuff before, your character has a couple other stuff. First of all, luck. Luck can be used for rerolling failed rolls, any rolls. You get 3 Luck points that you can use any time for the duration of the session. You replenish your Luck points until the next session. Movement is how much you can move. 1 Meter of Movement is considered 2 Centimeters or 1 Inch, depends on what measuring system you use. Your movement is determined by your Trickster Style Times Three. Your Health is determined by your health and can be increased by buying Blue Orbs, which increase your maximum health by 10. ### Step 5. Determining Stats Your stats are different from your Style or Skills. Stats are used in combination with your skills in trials, except if it is some specific skills. These stats are Brawn, Smarts, Agility and Charisma. They start with one rank and can reach up to 3. You get 5 Points to spend on stats and can be increased later on using Orbs. Same for skills, skills can be increased using Orbs. ### Step 6. Skills Every character has Four Stats, those being Brawn, Smarts, Agility and Charisma. These “Parent” stats are the first part of a dice pool used for trials, the other half is skills. Depending on your race, you get different amounts of Ranks to spend on starting skills. The minimum you can have on a skill is One, which is how many ranks a skill starts at, and can reach a maximum of five ranks.

Devil Trigger People with the blood of demons in them can embrace their demonic heritage and temporarily take the form of a demon, becoming stronger and more powerful. This form is called devil trigger and both Half Demons and Quarter Demon get this. Activating devil trigger is simple. For every 10 Damage taken or dealt, you get a **Devil Trigger Point**, you can have a maximum of 10 Devil Trigger Points. When you activate Devil Trigger you spend a Devil Trigger Point and you can stay in Devil Trigger for one round by spending one point, if you do not have any points left you turn human. In addition to that, you cannot get any more devil trigger points while in Devil Trigger. When they activate devil trigger, they gain an ability that they can pick from (Or make if they want), double all damage they deal and max all of their Brawn and Agility skills and stats. You can increase your Maximum Devil Trigger Points by buying Purple Orbs. #### Sin Devil Trigger Sin Devil Trigger is activated by specific actions (Discuss it with your Storyteller how your character can unlock devil trigger). In order to activate Sin Devil Trigger you must do that specific action in order to unlock Sin Devil Trigger. When activate Sin Devil Trigger. you spend 2 Devil Trigger Points per turn while in Sin Devil Trigger. In Sin Devil Trigger, you cannot get dealt damage and your damage quadruples. Your appearance is much more demonic, looking like a Balrog from Lord of the Rings but with more spikes and fire. #### Devil Trigger Abilities In Devil Trigger form, you gain a special ability. Vergil's for example can summon a large amount of spectral swords. We will write down some example abilities that you can take inspiration to make your own abilities. These abilities cost Devil Trigger Points. ##### Inferno Railgun (3 DTP) You release a powerful beam from your eyes that penetrate the hardest and thickest of materials, dealing 20 Damage to the target. ##### Tide of Time (2 DTP) You slow time from your view, allowing you to dodge hits with no need to use a Defence Point. This ability lasts until you exit Devil Trigger. ##### Swordstorm (2 DTP) You summon 6 Swords which fly at your opponent, doing six attacks, each dealing 2 Damage. This is basically Vergil's Mirage Edge ##### Nightmare Burst (2 DTP) This ability allows you to create bursts of dark energy that hit people and targets in a 20 Meter Radius. Anyone in that radius takes 1 Damage but loses all their Action and Defence Points. ``` ``` ##### Blitzkrieg (1 DTP) You move in a straight line four times your maximum movement. Anyone in that line is hit by a melee weapon you have and they are dealt 4 Times as much damage. ##### Heaven Express (2 DTP) You must have a demon within 3 Meters of you. You grab said demon and toss them to any direction for 50 Meters. For evey 5 Meters tossed, they take 1 Damage. ##### Hell's Belles (2 DTP) You call a group of 5 Demons (Tier 1 or Tier 2) as your temporary companions. While in Devil Trigger, they will act on your command. For every turn after you exit Devil Trigger, roll a Persuade Test at Difficulty 2, increasing the difficulty by 1 every turn the Demons follow you. --- If you want to make your own ability, we suggest you discuss it with your Storyteller and he will say if you need to change it or not or if it is Overpowered or not.

#### Devil [Blank] [Blank] A Character, through means discussed with the Storyteller, can unlock a very powerful version of their favorite weapon such as Devil Gaunlet Sokol or Devil Axe Hope for example. The means to obtain such weapon in the games is by stabbing yourself with your weapon but the Storyteller and you mut discuss how you can obtain it. However, the Storyteller must decide in secret on how to obtain a Devil Weapon so the characters do not obtain it five minutes into the first session, same applies for Sin Devil Trigger. \page ### (Optional Step) Vehicles Vehicles in DMC are rarely seen, except Dante's Bike and Nico's Van, or used as weapons (See Cavaliere). While in Devil May Cry exploration and transportation is not really important, in **DMC** where cutscenes and mission screens are non-existent, vehicles are a bit more important. While parkouring on top of rooftops is cool, it can be boring and time consuming. You can also customize a vehicle, strapping weapons on it and whatno if your Storyteller allows it. ### (Optional Step) Animal Companions If your Storyteller allows it, you can have an Animal Companion. The companion is an animal, preferably a normal pet but more strong, with fighting capabilities but not as strong as you. This companion can be commanded by you to do some mundane and more complex things if your Storyteller believes the companion can do. ### Step 8. Starting Equipment In any game you play, you start with a few things. We recommend you start with a ranged weapon and a melee weapon and all the moves, items, traits, vehicles and companions you get. ### Step 9. Personality There are four things you can add to your character that will have a point in Roleplaying. These four are Personality Traits, Goals, Connections and Flaws. Personality traits are small quirks like "Loves Fishfood" or "He eats its his Nails". They are just flavor for your character. Goals are what they want to achieve. Things like "Wants to Achieve power" or "Wants to find his lost Sister" fit in this category. Connections are small bonds or relationships with NPC's. If a character has a wide or crush and it is important to him, better write it down here. Your storyteller can use it for the Story of the campaign you are playing. Flaws are imperfections of your characters personality. Arrogance, Cockyness and being Overly Emotional are usch flaws but you can get creative. All of these things can be used by the Storyteller for various reasons so it is good to write them down. ### Step 10. Backstory To finish making your character, you need to write them a backstory. This can be very easy, just a small description of what they did before joining Devil May Cry. The Backstory can be as small as one sentence for example "Adam was a gun seller who became a Devil May Cry member" to a long multi paragraph story which can help Storytellers create a more interactive and fleshed out story. I can give you an example of a backstory:

##### Backstory Example Cain lived a normal life even though he had demonic power. After the birth of his daughter, his wife was killed by a powerful demon named Armatyle. His rage and grief made him unlock his Devil Trigger and after that event joined Devil May Cry to protect his daughter and slay Armatyle.

### (Optional Step) Themesong Every character in Devil May Cry has their own theme song, so why shouldn't you? We reccommend every battle, either put a pre-selected combat theme or put the theme of whoever has the biggest combo in turn 1.

\page # Chapter 4: Weapons and Equipment Weapons and Items are quintessential in Devil May Cry. Without weapons the game would not be the same and without red, yellow and all the other types of orbs the game would have been much harder but it would not change its fate. In this chapter of the book you will ind rules for the other types of Orbs and some weapons from the series as examples to make your own weapons. ### Orbs There are other types of orbs other than Red Orbs. These are the Yellow Orbs, the Green Orbs, the Blue Orbs and Purple Orbs. Yellow orbs allows for someone who is dead or unconcious to come back from the dead with all his health. Green orbs heal a portion of your health depending on the Green Orb's size. Remember, it is a Tabletop RPG that is not only combat. Exploration, Socialization, Investigation and Inflitration are some of the sistuation the characters might find themselves in and they will need the appropriate items. Follow the same steps you would use if you were making a Devil Arm but ith the limitation of only getting 1 Trait. However, each prosthetic can be upgraded by using Red Orbs, which will increase the amount of traits the weapon can get. ##### Prosthetic Upgrades | Upgrade | Cost | |:----:|:-------------| | Level up (1-3) | 5000 R.Orbs per Level | | Trait| 1000 Orbs | New Prsthetic| 4000 R.Orbs per # of Prosthetics| ### Weapons Weapons in Devil May Cry are a big part of the game. They are used to keep combos going and they are used to create many different and varied playstyles. Weapons themselves have two basic stats; Size & Speed. The larger the Size, the more damage it does. The higher the Speed, the fewer APs it costs to attack. Size: Heavy (4 damage), Medium (3 damage), Light (2 damage) Speed: Slow (3 AP), Medium (2 AP), Fast (1 AP) Each weapon can have up to three Traits. Traits are the things that make weapons stand out from each other. Usually the storyteller should determine its traits, type, speed and damage. At the start of the campaign, the players get to make their own devil arm and ranged weapon and even more if the Storyteller allows them. \page # Chapter 5: Expanded and Optional Rules This chapter revolves on rules that should be more detailed but could not be in their segment cause the creator of this is a monkey who can't format. You will also find some rules that you could use in your game, like character traits or survival hazards and cover etc. All of these rules are entirely optional, except for the ones for the Companions and Vehicle Combat which because as I said before, the creator is a monkey did not write beforehand. ### Companion Rules Expanded Companions act as Guardians, Folowers and Combat Assistants. They will usually play more of a role in combat rather than social encounters or exploration. They will usually act independetly unless commanded by their master. Said companions do not always have to be animals, but can be certain demons. Some of them can be even an avatar of the master's soul or something to that extent. It will cost a certain amount of Red Orbs to get a companions, usually depending on the size of it and also wether they are demonic or not. --- - **Small** (Cat, Dog, Raven etc) 1000 R.Orbs - **Medium** (Puma, Vulture, Wolf etc) 1500 R.Orbs - **Large** (Bear, Horse, ~~your mom~~) 2000 R.Orbs - **Avatar** (Nightmare for example) 1000 R.Orbs + Size - **Demonic** (Shadow, Beelzebub etc) +500 Orbs You can have a maximum of 3 Companions. In combat, companions have your initiative -1 and can have an Action and Defense pool of 2. If a Companion dies during combat, unless they are a Demon, cannot be brought back to life. If they are a demon you can use a Yellow Orb. An Avatar does not truly die unless the character is killed. Outside of Combat, a character's companion can help only in exploration and in intimidation. Example things they can do is scale walls, break down doors, search ruins for survivors etc. The Storyteller gets to roll for the companions unless it is combat and the Storyteller must use the Companion's stat block. ### Avatars Avatars are entities that few have awakened, they represent their infernal part of their soul, this means that only half demons or quarter demons can have an avatar. Summoning an avatar costs 1 Devil Trigger Points per turn. An avatar wiil only and always follow the command of its master, which is the character. An avatar has the same attributes as the character but all physical (Agility and Power) are increased by 2 and all mental attributes (Intellect and Charisma) are decreased by 2 to a minimum of 1. Their HP is also equal to the character's +10. If an Avatar is killed, they don't die, but can only be resummoned after a few hours. Avatars also have their own special abilities. Such abilities can br like these for example. ``` ``` ##### Goliath Smash (1 DTP) The Avatar grabs an enemy and throws them to the ground, dealing 3 damage. ##### Thunderstruck The avatar releases a pulse of lightning, dealing 3 damage to anything nearb in a 10 Meter Radius. ##### Cry of the Ravens A swarm of shadowy ravens comes by, scratching and slashin any enemies nearby. These crows deal 1d4 Damage to every enemy in a 10 Meter Radius. For a character to obtain an Avatar, they would need to get one at character creation, costing 1000 Orbs and adding the cost of the Size. ### Vehicle Combat Most probably, some time in any game you have, you will fight demons, and sometimes, you will be in a vehicle. How it works is simple. If at the end of your turn, your vehicle is next to a demon, the demon may attempt to attack it. If your vehicle loses all its health, it explodes and you take 1d4 Damage. When ramming an enemy with your vehicle by moving to them, you deal 1d4 + the Cehicle's HP's First Digit (1d4+11 for Example). If it has 3 digits, take the first two then. \page # Chapter 6: Bosses and Enemies Devil May Cry would not have been the same without a large variety of enemies and tanky bosses to fight. This chapter is all about those two. This should only be read by Storytellers and people who are preparing for the next session. You can change each enemy's stats if you want but for simplicity and to make sure they will be balanced we recommend you use our monsters. We will also present rules to make your own bosses and enemies and some existing bosses and enemies. ### Bosses In Devil May Cry, bosses are quintessential. In this game, you should use bosses as a final fight in every session and they should have a theme. Like Cerberus with ice, Agni and Rudra with fast attacks and stuff like that. We have made three templates for bosses that you can use to inspire yourself to make original bosses, or use premade bosses.

##### Humanoid Boss Template *Urizen, Agni & Rudra, Cavaliere, Nelo Angelo* This boss looks a bit more human than the others. They have humanoid features and can act human but have strong demonic powers. These bosses usually turn into Devil Arms and use melee weapons, but can use anything. | BRA |AGI| CHA| INT | |:----:|:--:|:---------:|:-: |1-5| 1-5 |1-5| 1-5| --- #### Base Traits - **Hit Points** 30-50, Humanoids have te appearance and features of a human but remember, they are demons so they should be a bit tougher and also they are bosses. - **Action Point** 2-4 Humanoid Bosses should be able to do a lot of attacks or moves. Humanoid Bosses hsould have about 2-4 Action Points - **Orbs** Humanoid Bosses should give the players once deafeated about **5000** to **10000** Orbs. - **Movement** 3-10m, Humanoid Bosses are not that apart from humans and humans are not very fast, although you can make them faster. - **Size** From Small to Large. --- #### Unique Traits The Unique Traits of a boss is up to you to make and stat. Do not be afraid to make them strong, they are bosses after all and bosses are supposed to be hard to beat. --- #### Actions and Moves Same as the Unique Traits, it is up to you to make and figure out. Make their moves deal decent damage, as games usually have multiple characters with their own powerful moves and weapons.

##### Monstrous Boss Template *Goliath, Berial, Beowulf, Gigapede* Monstrous Bosses look purely like a thing from the underworld. Although depending on the animal they are inspired from the Action Points and the Hit Points as well can vat - **Orbs** Humanoid Bosses should give the players once deafeated about **8000** to **18000** Orbs. - **Movement** 2-8m, Monstrous Bosses are slower cause of their large size but at times they can be quite fast, depending on the animal.. - **Size** From Medium to Large to Huge.

##### Nelo Angelo *Black Angel, Humanoid Boss* Nelo Angelo is a demon of Mundus made by enslaving Vergil and entrapping him inside one of the Machiavelli Armors. He has a Devil Trigger like appearance with a purple cloack and blue burning sword. | BRA |AGI| CHA| INT | |:----:|:--:|:---------:|:-: |3| 4 |3| 3| - **Hit Points** 50 Hit Points, Nelo Angelo's strong black armor allows him to tank a few more hits than a normal person. - **Action Point** 3, Nelo Angelo still retains the combat capabilities of Vergil and is quite fast. - **Orbs** 9000, Nelo Angelo is a tough fight but he is fouhgt multiple times in Devil May Cry so his low Orb Drop is justified. - **Movement** 6m, Nelo Angelo is dexterous as hell - **Size** Medium, he is very tall but not as tall as an Elephant. --- #### Unique Traits Nelo Angelo posseses no unique traits. --- #### Actions and Moves **Transmission** Nelo Angelo can teleport anywhere that he can see as long as it is within 20m (2 AP). --- **Zweihander** Nelo Angelo does a slice with his Zeihander, dealing 2 Damage on a hit. (1 AP) --- **Horizon Slash** Nelo ANgelo does a large slice with his sword, creating a cone like 3m streak that damages anyone in it for 3 Damage. (2 AP) --- **Spectral Blades** Nelo Angelo can summon 3 Spectral Blades counting as separate hits. If one hits all of them hit, dealing 1 Damage each. (1 AP)

##### Phantom *Burning Nightmare, Animalistic Boss* Phantom is a spider made of stone and burning magma. It was the servant of Agrosax before Dante killed Phantom. | BRA |AGI| CHA| INT | |:----:|:--:|:---------:|:-: |2| 5 |1| 1| - **Hit Points** 65 Hit Point, Phantom is made of a thick hard shell and lava so it is hard for someone to properly injure Phantom. - **Action Point** 3, Nelo Angelo still retains the combat capabilities of Vergil and is quite fast. - **Orbs** 10000, Phantom is a very tough fight and a proper challenge requires a proper reward. - **Movement** 10m, Phantom is extremery dexterous and because of him being inspired by a Spider very fast and agile. - **Size** Gargantuant, Phantom is extermely large, almost as large as a small block. --- #### Unique Traits **Scorching Path**: Wherever Phantom Moves, the area he moves is caught on fire for one round. --- **Spiderwalk**: Phantom can walk on walls and does not need to roll for it. --- #### Actions and Moves --- **Fire Breath** Phantom can shoot flames from its mouth, dealing 2 Burning Damage in a 5m cone (1 AP) --- **Blazing Maw** Phantom can try to bite someone, causing 1 Piercing and 1 Burning Damage. (2 AP) --- **Stinger** Using his burning stinger, Phantom penetrates a target and throws them 12m away from him. The stinger deals 2 Piercing Damage. (3 AP)

##### Cerberus *Ice Guardian, Animalistic Boss* Cerberus is the Guardian of the entrance of Temen-Ni-Gru. He resembles the mythical creature Ceberus, complete with three heads who have their own actions and hit points. He requires the players to try to expect which moves he will use next. | BRA |AGI| CHA| INT | |:----:|:--:|:---------:|:-: |4| 3 |1| 2| - **Hit Points** 20 Hit points each head. Ceverus is made of three separate and sentient heads, making him have a total of 60 Hit Points. - **Action Point** 2, usually two heads can do an attack per round but every head can do an attack. - **Orbs** 11000, the Cerberus fight is a very difficult one cause of the separate head attacks and that the more heads you kill the more powerful attack they can do. - **Movement** 10m, Ceberus can be very strong, however he is tied to a wall so he can only move within 10m of the wall he is tied to. - **Size** Large, he is very tall but not as tall as an Elephant. --- #### Unique Traits --- **The More the Merrier** Every head you kill adds one AP. --- #### Actions and Moves --- **Howl of Ice** Cerberus howls, releasing a freezing wave that deals 2 Freezing Damage. (2 AP) --- **Frozen Spikes** Cerberus Howls at the ceiling, dropping a barrage of spikes in a 4 by 4m square, dealing 3 Piercing Damage if it hits a character. --- **Charge** Cerberus charges in a straight line, "eating" anyone who the hit manages to hit. Whoever is hit gets dealt 4 Damage but the nedt round Cerberus does not get a turn unless his head is cut the next turn. (2 AP) --- **Ball of Ice** Cerberus shoots a ball of ice that freezes whoever it hits for 2 Freezing Damage. (1 AP)

##### Berial *Conqueror of Fire Hell, Monstrous Boss* Berial resembles a centaur with the features of a lion, but he is on fire. He wields a Zweihander and uses his large physique and flaming body to squish and set enemies ablaze. | BRA |AGI| CHA| INT | |:----:|:--:|:---------:|:-: |4| 3 |2| 3| - **Hit Points** 55, Berial is a strong boss, with a large body and hard to penetrate skin. Although he does not get damaged by a weapon that does Burning or Explosion damage, he sucks the fire and gets healed 5 Hit Points. - **Action Point** 2, despite him having a multitude of attacks, Berial is really slow and his Zweihander is really heavy, making him need to do a strong lift to do a proper attack. - **Orbs** 10000, Berial is a tough fight to fight but him being able to do few attacks at a round and him being slow moving can make the fight a tad more easier. - **Movement** 6m, Berial is slow moving due to his large body size, although he can burn, melt and destroy anything he pases through if it is made out of something weak or flammable. - **Size** Gargantuant, Berial is very large in height but not in wideness. He cannot be lifted or grappled in any way or form. --- #### Unique Traits --- - **One with the Flames** Berial can regain hit points from fire. As mentioned before, if he gets hit by a burning weapon or explosion weapon he sucks the fire out of it and regains 5 Hit Points --- #### Actions and Moves --- - **Zweihander** Berial attacks using his zweihander, any hit he deals will do 2 Slashing Damage but on a crit he deals 2 more burning damage. (2 AP) --- - **Flame Burst** Berial concentrates all his fire and does a mini explosion around him dealing four damage but losing 10 Hit Points doing so. (1 AP) --- - **Fire Breath** Berial can shoot a spurt of fire burning anyone that it hits for 2 Burning Damage. (1 AP)

##### Marionette *Bloody Mary, Tier 1 Demon* The Marionette looks ike a medieval puppet, hanging from ethereal strings and attacking only if commanded t or approached. ##### Shadow *Infernal Feline, Tier 2 Demon* Shadow is a type of feline demon that is basically a shadow in the shape of a cat or any feline.
