Using the Core Z'RPG Syststem, Zenith integrates Roleplay into the core Gameplay Loop and encouraging the players and *The Orator* to create new ideas together within the system. The rules are written with a limitless-balance in mind, so that those who wish to incorporate their homebrew can do so without fear of a broken world. ## Gameplay ### #### The Orator *The Orator* is the person leading the game and table. It is the role of *The Orator* to dictate the events and overarching story of the sessions and campaign. The Z'RPG system is designed for long-term campaigns, with Players exploring many different facets of an Adventure: from Travel & Discovery, Dungeons & Encounters, Crafting & Gathering; The *Orator* will need to prepare for a myriad of scenarios. #### The d20 & d12 The Z'RPG primarily functions using a d20 and a d12. These are used to complete a multitude of actions, such as performing Combat & Professions, completing Character Training, determining *Skill* outcomes, and interacting with NPCs & other characters through Roleplay. #### Exhilaration (d20) When a *Creature* performs an *Attack Roll* or *Save Check* and rolls a 4 or lower upon the Dice, they gain 1 point of *Exhilaration*. A *Creature* may possess a maximum number of *Exhilaration* Points equal to their *Reliability Modifier*. *Creatures* can spend *Exhilaration* to cause the value on any d20 Dice roll to a 9 + relevant *Modifiers*. ___ When spending a point of *Exhilaration* upon a 4 or lower to increase the roll, the *Creature* does not gain a point of *Exhilaration*. ___ Characters can spend 1 point of *Exhilaration* every 3 *Rounds* (30 Seconds) during Combat Encounters; or Once per Section of The Day outside of them (See Resting). #### Determination (d12) When a Character performing a Profession or Character Training rolls a 2 or lower on a d12, they gain 1 point of *Determination*. A *Creature* may possess a maximum number of *Determination* Points equal to their *Reliability Modifier*. *Creatures* can spend *Determination* to cause the value on any d12 Dice roll to a 5 + relevant *Modifiers*; including for *Experience Points* ___ When spending a point of *Exhilaration* upon a 2 or lower to increase the roll, the *Creature* does not gain a point of *Exhilaration*. ___ Characters can spend 1 point of *Determination* per Section of The Day (See Resting). #### Willpower & Weakness (d6) *Willpower* and *Weakness* can be determined by the *Orator* during scenarios (Combat Encounters or Roleplay), or be granted by Abilities, Enchantments, and other Effects. When rolling with *Willpower*, you roll 1d6 and add the total to your roll. When rolling with *Weakness*, the total of the 1d6 is subtracted from your roll. ___ These effects can be applied to both d20 & d12 rolls when performing actions. #### Other Dice Used d4, d8, d10, d100 : Each of the above dice may be used for *Damage Rolls*, decision making on tables, or to apply Bonuses to d20 & d12 rolls such as those described within *Exhilaration* & *Determination*. The purpose and use of dice can be decided by the Orator. d20s, d12s, and d6s can all be used in these scenarios as well. ___ A d100 is often used for Luck or Fate based scenarios, or those involving the deities' decisions. }} \page ### Attributes An *Attribute Check* may be called upon for a raw test of aptitude where a *Skill* may not be relevant. ___ When an *Attribute Check* is called, roll a d20 and add the relevant *Attribute Modifier* to the roll, based on *The Orator's* request. If you are performing an *Attribute Check* with a piece of Equipment which you possess *Reliability* with, you always add your *Reliability Modifier*; such as with *Attack Rolls*. ___ **Persona:** Your personality and wit; **Soul:** Your inner-spirit and worldly connection; **Mind:** Your thoughtfulness and attention; **Agility:** Your deftness and skill; and **Power:** Your physical power and prowess #### Attribute Modifiers An *Attribute* can have a score ranging from 1 - 30. The Conversion Chart below displays a creature's *Attribute Modifier* based on its *Attribute Score*. A Character can have up to 24 in any *Attribute* and up to 26 in one *Attribute* as determined by their Ancestry. Add the relevant *Attribute Modifier* to that skill whenever a *Skill Check* is made. Some *Skills* are assigned to multiple *Attributes*, enabling them to be used in different scenarios. A character considered *Reliable* in *Power, Intimidation* is not also *Reliable* in *Persona, Intimidation*. ___ When a *Skill Check* is called, roll a d20 and add the relevant *Skill Bonus* to the roll, based on the Orator's request. Your *Skill Bonus* is equal to the relevant *Attribute Modifier* + any additional bonuses, adding your *Reliability Modifier* to *Reliable Skill Checks* only. A *Skill Check*, must be equal to or greater than the *Skill Check Total* set by the effect to succeed. #### Skill Points When a Character goes through a *Level Up* they gain 1 *Skill Point*. These can be used in a number of ways to increase Bonuses to *Skills*. For more information, see the *Level Up* section. ##### Skill Reliability When a Character gains *Skill Reliability*, the *Skill* gains a permanent bonus to the all rolls equal to their *Reliability Modifier*. #### Passive Skills Each Character possesses a relevant *Passive Skill Score* for each *Skill*. A *Passive Skill Score* is always equal to 9 + the *Skill Modifier* of the *Skill* in question. ___ Any *Skill Check* performed can be substituted out for a *Creature's* *Passive Skill Score* instead, allow Character's to have meaningful *Skill* investments. ___ The most common *Passive Skill Score* to note is Awareness. Each *Attribute* has its own *Save Modifier*, all of which are used in different situations. Each *Class* is *Reliable* in their *Main Attribute*, meaning their *Reliability Modifier* is added to the roll. : When a *Save* is called, roll a d20 and add the relevant *Save Modifier* to the roll, based on *The Orator's* request. A *Save Check* must be equal to or greater than the *Save Check Total* set by the effect to succeed. #### Reliable Save Checks When a Character possesses *Save Check Reliability*, the *Save Check* gains a permanent Bonus to the all rolls equal to their *Reliability Modifier*. ### Skill & Save Difficulty | Recommended Task Tier | Skill/Completion Check Total | |:------------------|:-----:| | Beginner | 5-10 | | Novice | 11-13 | | Apprentice | 14-16 | | Adept | 17-20 | | Expert | 20-22 | | Master | 23-25 | | Legend | 26+ | #### Progressive Checks These are instances where the party will need to work together, performing a series of *Skill* and/or *Save Checks* in order to perform a task or achieve a goal. ___ As The Orator, you can choose to use Check Totals at any point in the adventure, such as for discovering the Wonders of The Woodland, but they can be especially helpful for describing the tracking of Creatures or a narrative journey through an area. ___ Begin by assessing how difficult you wish for your task to be, whether it be tracking a Monster, working together on a *Profession* project, or piecing together information: Firstly, choose a **Check Threshhold**. Any *Check* performed by a character towards this shared goal must be equal to or above that value to contribute meaningfully towards the journey. Anything less than the Threshold is not added towards the Progressive Check Total accumulated by the party so far. You can even choose to have negative events occur as a result of rolls below the threshold or even subtract the value rolled from the accumulated Check Total. Next, decide upon the **Progressive Check Total** the party must accumulate in order to complete the task. Ultimately, this determines how long the journey will take them, or hard the task is. ___ You can decide how many Skills are relevant to the event you are presenting, allowing Players to choose which rolls their characters make. It is wise to have each member of the Party to perform a check before allowing others to roll again. }} \page {{wide ### Roleplay & Downtime It is the charge of the players to engage with and influence The Realm, as it is presented by *The Orator*. Campaigns set within this world are designed for Orators to have freedom in how the world changes over the course of a story. ___ Downtime activities, such as *Professions* or performing research, can be completed during any form of Rest (See *Resting & Experience*) or during Travel (See *Travelling Rules*). ___ Roleplay affords time for the players to lead the story and make use of periods of respite. This can be initiated through thoughtful questions about recent endeavours, enacting personal plans for your character, or engaging with NPCs met during city exploration. Progressing and completing roleplay can be concluded purely through conversation and character *Major Actions*, or with the use of *Skill* and *Attribute Checks*. #### Quests Each contract, request, or task fulfilled by the Party or a character, that results in a reward (Items, Gold, Knowledge, Story Fulfillment, Favour & Renown), counts as a Quest Completion. Quests can be sort out by Characters through conversation, bounty boards, and through progression of your Campaign. *The Orator* can make Quests known publicly to the group, but is also free to track hidden quests for the purposes of the campaign's story. ___ And, not all Quests need to be the killing of some great *Creature*. Quests are here for both *Adventurer* & *Profession Classes* to enjoy! You'll find more information on Quests and more within the relevant *Level Up* Sections. #### Luck Rolls & Scenarios Luck may be considered a factor when a scenario has a different set of outcomes, or is based purely on chance, often decided upon by *The Orator*. Players can be allowed to perform their own Luck rolls without call from *The Orator*, but your use and intention of this rule should always be declared to them. ___ Any roll performed with a D100 is a Luck Roll. Where an *Ability* or other activity is defined as a Luck Roll, it will often come with its own Rules for determining the modifications that can be made to a roll. ___ Should *The Orator* wish to call for a Luck Roll to resolve a scenario for a Character, they can allow the rolling Character to add or subtract their Soul or Persona *Attribute Score* from the total. ___ *The Orator* also rolls a D100 when calling for a Character to perform a Luck Roll as outlined above, making no modifications to its value; then choosing whether they wish the Character to roll higher or lower than the *The Orator's* value. *The Orator* is free to keep their roll and choice a secret, or share it with the acting Player. #### Favour & Renown Through the adventures that a Party might undertake, their reputation may begin to rise; whether that be within Local Settlements or across the wider regions of the Realm. Favour & Renown perform on a counting-scale ranging from -50 to +50. ###### NPC Favour ***Party or Character Based*** ___ Favour with Villagers, Shopkeepers, Guards, and other kinds of NPCs always starts at 0. The higher an NPCs Favour towards a Character or the Party, the more trustworthy and friendly they consider them to be. ___ If a Character performs a successful *Skill Check* against the NPC in conversation, their Favour may increase with them by 1d4 + their Persona *Attribute Modifier* (Minimum 0). Failed *Skill Checks* can reduce Favour by 1d4 + 2. Consider the importance of each *Skill Check*, and when Favour changes may be applicable. ___ If the Party's or Character's Actions are more impactful upon Favour, such as Stealing or giving a rousing Speach, *The Orator* can increase the Dice Tiers of Favour Losses and Gains up to a maximum of a d10. ###### Settlement & Faction Renown ***Party Based*** ___ As the Party complete Quests and progress through the Campaign, they may provide great benefits or hinderance to settlements through their Actions. All Settlements begin with a Renown of 0 towards the Party. ___ Being caught performing unsavoury Activity by Law Enforcement always reduces Settlement Renown by -1; though more severe Actions can make this loss greater, up to a maximum of -3. A Party with Low Renown will be more likely to be investigated by Law Enforcement, and be looked down upon by Locals should their Actions be made public. ___ The same rules applies for good deeds, heroic actions, and for each Quest completed in service to a Settlement, increases Renown by +1; with greater deeds providng more Renown, up to a maximum of +5. A Party with High renown are more likely to receive tips from friendly Locals, receive higher rewards from Quests, and be afforded discounts by Shopkeepers when Bartering. ___ }} \page {{wide ### Character Training The following system is used to facilitate the training of additional Character Features, both Mundane & Magikal. Character Training can be offered by *The Orator* or it can be initiated by the interest of the Character themselves. ___ Some features such as Enhancements will indicate the Task Tier within their text. For others, a relevant Tier will need to be assigned, in order to represent the difficulty of the Training. ___ Other forms of available Training include: Learning new Skill or Equipment *Reliabilities*, Learning new Roleplay Features, Creating new *Spells*, and Learning new Knowledge over a period of time. #### Knowledge Points & Training The Knowledge Points are set by *The Orator* and determine how difficult the subject is to train. ___ To complete training and receive Knowledge Points, a player must dedicate 4 hours to their chosen pursuit within a 24 hour period (this can be split up across the day) regardless of the activity. Not all training needs to be strenuous, but a character should be focused on their subject nonetheless. ___ Once these hours have been completed, the player may roll for Knowledge Points with a d12. ___ In some cases, such as training with Weapons or Armour, Combat Encounters can serve as a means for progression. So long as a Character uses the Weapon or Armour they are training during the Combat Encounter, they can roll for Knowledge Points directly after the Encounter. ___ You maintain anything you have gained through Character Training regardless of your *Active Class* ###### Adventurer Training If their training relates to a Character's Adventurer Class or their life as an Adventurer, they add their *Reliability Modifier* to any d12 Character Training Roll. ###### Profession Training If their training relates to a Character's Professions, they add their *Crafting* or *Gathering Bonus* to any d12 Character Training Roll. *The Orator* may choose to use *Profession Completion Checks* as a substitute for Knowledge Rolls throughout the process, to represent Crafting projects. ##### Relevant Skills *The Orator* can select any number of relevant *Skills*, that could be of help during the process. Each *Skill* represents a different facet of the training, and serves as a way for *the Orator* to present any challenges you may encounter along the way. ##### Tutor Bonus Whether it is a Personal Mentor or a Guidebook, any instrument of Learning is counted as a Tutor. ___ The cost of Tutors for tasks is optional and is set by *The Orator*. For each Tier of Exhaustion a *Creature* possesses, they suffer a -1d4 Penalty to all *Attribute*, *Skill*, and *Save Checks* ___ * Are below One Quarter of their *Maximum Health* * Have not performed an *Adventurer's Rest* or Greater within the last *Reflection* * Have not had Food or Drink within the last *Reflection* * Travelled Greater than 5 Tiers of Travel during the last 2 *Reflections* ___ Players travelling in a Vehicle, Vessel or that are mounted apply any relevant Exhaustion Tiers to Beasts of Burden if they are present. ___ Some *Abilities*, *Spells* The Party may also apply Exhaustion Tiers to Targets, which can greatly hinder The Party. #### The Party Guide One Character must guide the Party each day if not being guided by NPCs. This leading Character rolls *Attribute* & *Skill Checks* checks relating to keeping the Party on the right path and keeping watch on upcoming surroundings. ### Resting #### **Wanderers Respite:** For every 20 minutes of rest - including care for Equipment - where time for recovery is taken by a Party or Party Member, they can Sacrifice a *Soul Dice* to perform a Respite Action: ___ **Heal:** The Character Rolls their Sacrficed *Soul Dice* + their Soul *Attribute Modifier* and Heals for an amount equal to the total ___ **Restore:** The Character sends their *Soul Dice* to the Aether, restoring *Mana* equal to 1d4 + their *Spellcasting Attribute Modifier* #### **Adventurers Rest:** Met after 6 hours of rest (allowing for watches) when making camp whilst exploring. Characters restore Half of their *Soul Dice* pool & receive Healing equal to Half of their Maximum Health; Characters with *Spellcasting* restore Half of their *Maximum Mana*. ___ **Rest Stops** places regularly camped by travellers or that have been made more comfortable by The Party. all Characters receive additional Healing equal to their Soul *Attribute Modifier* (Minimum 1) * Adventurer Tier; whilst *Spellcasters* also restore *Mana* equal to their *Spellcasting Attribute Modifier* (Minimum 1) * Adventurer Tier (Where Common = 1) ___ Characters can gain the benefits of an Adventurer's Rest once per *Reflection* (Limit Shared with Complete Rests). #### **Complete Rest:** Can only be achieved with a Settlement or with *Spells* & Enchanted Items and is met after 12 Hours of Rest, but can also last for *Reflections* within a city. This Heals Characters to their *Maximum Health* and fully restores their *Soul Dice* Pool & *Mana*. ___ Characters can gain the benefits of a Complete Rest once every 3 *Reflections*. }} \page {{wide ### The Wilderness Whilst not within a Settlement (See next section), The Party are considered to be within The Wilderness; regardless of whether the area is strictly mapped or under particular control. ___ The Wilderness is home to all manner of People: Travellers, Merchants, and other Adventurer's; but the group may also find themselves stumbling upon Thieves & Brigands. ___ In Additional, myriad *Creatures* beyond those of Humanoids lurk between trees, in rivers, and over vast mountains. ___ Characters will need to travel well prepares, making use of their *Professions*, acquired Treasures, and their *Classes* in order to survive on their Journey. #### Planning Encounters **Daily Encounters:** The Realm is inhabited by a great many *Creatures*, and not all of them - especially wild Beasts - will know the strength of the Party at first glance. Characters should expect to handle around 3 Daily Encounters with each passing *Reflection* that they travel in wilder lands. Daily Encounters should always use groups of Common - Rare Rank *Creatures*, depending on the strength of the Party you are preparing an Encounter for. ___ A Daily Encounter can be expected to take up to 3 *Rounds* (30 Seconds) of Combat. ___ **Memorable Encounters:** As the Party take on Quests and delve into darker places, they will be likely to encounter far stronger creatures. Sometimes, these will be those who have made Dens by lone Monsters of great Strength, or it may be Tribes of Creatures in service to a Leader. A Memorable Encounter should always include at least 1 Creature of Equal Tier, who are then supported by a small amount of *Creatures* of a lower Tier; or a larger amount of *Creatures* considered Easy. ___ A Memorable Encounter can be expected to take up to 6 *Rounds* (1 Minute) of Combat. ___ **Storied Encounters:** These will have the Party facing offer against Great Foes, often at the end of a Storyline or Dungeon. These will always include at least 1 *Creature* of Higher Tier than the Party, and may even be supported by a couple of Challenging Creatures as well. Any further *Creatures* beyond this should be considered Equal or Easy for the Party. ___ A Storied Encounter can be expected to take upwards of 9 *Rounds* (1 Minute & 30 Seconds) of Combat. ___ **Mighty Battles:** These include Scenarios where the Party will be involved in a major Battle, War or other Conflict. This will pit them against large groups of enemies or even multiple Encounters as described above, which can be performed on classic grid-style maps or broken into story-centric segmenets using the Turn-Based System. ___ These Encounters can take long-lengths of Combat Time, so prepare accordingly. ___ **For more information on *Creatures*** look ahead to The Bestiary where you can find Creature Blocks and advice on building your own. #### Hazards (& Death) ###### Suffocation & Drowning A *Creature* can hold its breath for 6 *Rounds* (1 Minute). If it is *Reliable* in the Swimming *Skill*, it can hold its breath for a number of *Rounds* equal to its Swimming. A Suffocating or Drowning creature falls Unconscious, and begins losing *Health* Equal to 2d12 - their *Reliability Modifier*. ___ ###### Falling A *Creature* suffers 1d12 Bludeoning Damage for every 5ft it falls above 20ft. For falls of 10 - 20ft, a *Skill Check* can be applied to determine whether the creature takes 1d6 Bludgeoning Damage from a poor landing. ___ ###### Deadly Environs Lava and other deadly liquids or substances deal 1/4 of a Characters *Maximum Health* as Damage each *Round*. Extreme Weather without the appropriate protection or fortitude applies 1 Exhaustion Tier per *Reflection* upon a failed Soul *Save Check* (*Orator Determined*). ___ ###### Light & Darkness Different types of light can be present within different scenarios, some of which can also be created Magikally: ___ **(*Magikal*) Light:** An area is well-lit, leaving vision unimpaired. ___ **Dim-Light:** An area is lit with candle-like light, casting shadows and leaving vision somewhat obscured. Whilst Reactions can be performed at any point during a Round, Major & Quick Actions must be performed during a Creature's Turn. To creature your Awareness Order for a Scenario, follow this Step-by-Step: ___ - All Players roll 1 Awarness Skill Check for their Characters (Also considered Creatures) - The Orator performs Awareness Skill Checks for all Enemy Creature - Insert the Locale Action, which acts as a Divider. This Action always occurs with an Awarness of 20 - Compare the Orator's Roll Highest to The Highest Awarness Skill Check made by a Character. The Highest roll determines who will act first between Allies & Enemies, regardless of all other rolls. Both Allies & Enemies have their own Summoned *Creature* Hexes. ___ **Enemies:** Create one *Hex* in the centre, considered to be on both the *Front Row* and *Back Row*. This is known as the central Hex. Add a 2-Hex *Front Row* and *Back Row* to each side of the Central *Hex*. ___ **Attacking Creatures:** Melee Attacks must always be performed from the Front Row. If a *Creature* on the *Back Row* has an enemy on the *Front Row* *Hex* directly in front of it, it is considered Protected and cannot be targeted by Melee Attacks. ___ Ranged Attacks can strike any *Creature* in *Any Hex*. ___ Where an Ability, *Spell* or Effect lists the *Front Row* or *Back Row*, the other can be selected if no *Creatures* are present upon the required row. ___ **The Central Hex:** Plays host to the boss creature, or most powerful *Creature* of the encounter. This *Creature* gains additional *Health* equal to its Soul *Attribute Score*. This *Creature* cannot be moved from this *Hex*, nor can other *Creatures* move into it; but they can move through it to access other *Hexes* on their side of the board (counted as 1 Hex). For the purposes of Area of Effect *Spells*, the Central *Hex* counts as being in both the Front and Back Row. ___ **Moving Hexes:** A *Creature* can move 1 Hex per 10ft of Movement it possesses. Moving into the space of another *Creature*, therefore swapping your positions, requires either *Creature* to spend a *Reaction*. Only 1 Creature can occupy a *Hex* at a time. ___ **Using the Scene:** The area in which a Turn-Based Encounter occurs is known as the scene. Enemies & Characters can still interact with and manipulate the environments around them. How large the Scene is and what can be reached by *Creatures* is at *The Orator's* discretion. #### Creature Sizes ___ **Small:** 3ft or shorter in height/width. Occupies a 5ft area or 1 *Hex* during combat. During *Map-Based Combat*, is able to move through all Large - Immense creatures. *Creatures* below 1ft can move through Medium creatures. ___ **Medium:** 4-8ft in height/width. Occupies a 5ft area or 1 *Hex* during both combat types. During *Map-Based Combat*, is able to move through all Giant - Immense creatures. ___ **Large:** 9-13ft in height/width. Occupies a 10-15ft area or 3 *Hexes* during *Map-Based Combat*. During *Turn-Based Combat*, it occupies 2 (Column) - 4 (Full Side) *Hexes*. During *Map-Based Combat*, is able to move through all Colossus - Immense creatures. ___ **Giant:** 14-18ft in height/width. Occupies a 15-20ft area or 7 *Hexes* during *Map-Based Combat*. During *Turn-Based Combat*, it occupies a 4 *Hex* area (Full Side). During *Map-Based Combat*, is able to move through all Immense creatures. ___ **Colossus:** 19-23ft or larger in height/width. While Unconscious, you can be Healed with a *Spell*, *Potion*, or other effect, which restores you to Consciousness. ___ If you are attacked whilst Unconscious at 0 *Health* by a *Creature* of Equal or Higher Tier to your own Adventurer Tier, you are considered Slain (Dead). They are considered Prone and can only regain consciousness as specified by the method by which they fell Unconscious. \page {{wide ### Movement Effects **Burrowing:** *Creatures* with Burrowing can dig underground as a *Free Action*, increasing their *Physical Defence* by an amount equal to their *Reliability Modifier* if they remain upon the Surface. Moving further underground renders the *Creature* Hidden, requiring Survival *Skill Checks* (or Passives) with a *Check Total* of 11 + *Creature Reliability* in order to determine the *Creatures* location as they move through the earth. : **Difficult Terrain:** All movement through Difficult Terrain is Halved. Where Difficult Terrain would be created in Turn-Based Combat, *Creatures* in those Hexes cannot move out of them, and *Creatures* outside of them cannot move into them. Soul Dice & Health The Maximum Amount and Tier of *Soul Die* for a Character is determined by the Active *Adventurer Class*. ___ A Character's *Maximum Health* is equal to: ((Maximum *Active Class* *Soul Dice* Value * Tier) * 2) + (Soul *Attribute Modifier* * Class Level). ___ A Common Tier is equal to a Modifier of 1, +1 per Tier above Common. While you are accompanying an Ally who is performing a *Gathering Profession Skill Check*, you can add your *Reliability Modifier* to their rolls. You cannot affect more than 1 Ally at a time with this Ability. ##### Primal Mana I ___ ***Level 4*** ___ You gain access to **Spirit-Bound** Spellcasting, receiving 8 *Spell Points* and accumulating more as you *Level Up* as a Shaman as per the normal Spellcasting Rules; and either the Air, Earth, Fire or Water *Spell List*. You may only unlock and use these 4 *Spell Lists* whilst embodying the power of a Shaman Berserker; unless you possess the Mage or Sage *Class*. Your *Spellcasting Attribute* as a Shaman is Persona. ___ When you suffer an Empowered Strike or suffer Damage from the Bleeding *Condition*, you gain 1 *Mana* Charge. A *Mana* Charge can be spent as a *Quick Action* to restore 3 *Mana* to yourself or an Ally within 10ft or 1 *Hex* ##### Mighty Guard ___ ***Level 9*** ___ As a *Major Action* You spend 3 *Mana* per Ally you can see within 15ft of you or 2 *Hexes*, granting each of those you choose to effect Mighty Guard for 3 *Rounds* (30 Seconds). ___ All affected Allies reduce all Damage they take by an amount equal to the roll of 1 of their *Soul Dice*. *Soul Dice* used in this way are not lost. ##### Primal Cleave ___ ***Level 13*** ___ When you perform your Cleaving Strike *Ability*, you can instead choose the additional Damage you deal to change type to another contained within a chosen Shaman *Spell List*. ___ When you do so, you can choose to Sacrifice a *Soul Dice* and increase all Damage with *Spells* you deal of the same Damage Type to be increased by 1d6 for 3 *Rounds* (30 Seconds). ##### Primal Mana II ___ ***Level 17*** ___ When you prepare to perform your Mighty Strike Ability, you can spend 6 *Mana* and enter into a Primus state for 3 *Rounds* (30 Seconds). Your Melee Attacks as part of your Mighty Blow *Ability* instead deal purely Magikal Damage (rolling against *Magikal Defence*), relevant to a chosen *Spell List* (See Primal Cleave Damage Type options), and the Vulnerability you apply is also relevant to this Damage Type. ___ For the duration of Primus, your *Melee Attacks* deal additional Magikal Damage based of your choice from those contained within a Shaman *Spell List*, equal to your *Spellcasting Attribute Modifier*. When the effects of Primus end, you restore 1d4 *Mana* for each successful strike you performed that dealt Damage relevant to your chosen *Spell List* }} \page {{wide #### Survivalist ##### Primal Instincts ***Level 4*** ___ You gain *Skill Reliability* with a Survival *Skill* of your choice. Whilst you are leading the Party during travel, you gain a 1d4 Bonus to Creature, Nature, and Survival *Skill Checks*. ##### Primal Lucidity I ***Level 4*** ___ Whilst you are under the effects of the Rage *Condition*, you land a *Critical Strike* when a value on a D20 equal to 20 - your *Reliability Modifier*. ___ When you deal a *Critical Strike* or *Vulnerable* Damage, your target must succeed on a Soul *Save Check* (*Save Check Total* equal to 9 + your Power *Attribute Modifier* + your *Reliability Modifier*) or become Dazed for 3 *Rounds* (30 Seconds), suffering 1d6 additional Weapon Damage. Once a creature has been Dazed in this way, it cannot be Dazed by this *Ability* again for 3 *Rounds* (30 Seconds). ##### Adept Awareness ***Level 9*** ___ When an Ally within 15ft or 2 *Hexes* is struck by a *Melee Attack*, peform an Agility, Awareness *Skill Check* (*Skill Check Total* equal to Damage dealt) as a *Reaction*. On a success, you move within 5ft or 1 *Hex* of your Ally, causing them to suffer Half Damage from the strike, and allowing you to perform a Quick Strike against the *Creature* attacking them. You also suffer half the Damage from the strike. ___ You can use this *Ability* a number of times equal to your Adventurer Tier (Where Common = 1) per Combat Encounter. ##### Primal Lucidity II ***Level 13*** ___ While you are under the effects of the Rage *Condition*, and you or an Ally within 10ft or 1 *Hex* of you are forced to Perform a *Save Check* against a *Spell* or Magikal *Ability*, you can reduce the amount of *Rounds* remaining on your active Rage *Condition* by 1 and gain/grant *Willpower* on the roll. ##### Execute ***Level 17*** ___ When you strike a *Creature* with a Damage type it is *Vulnerable* to, you can use a *Quick Action* to force them to roll a Soul *Save Check* (*Save Check Total* equal to the Damage of the strike). ___ On a failure, the target suffers the strike as if it were a *Critical Strike*. Professions

\page {{wide ### Level Up When a character attains enough *Experience Points* in a *Profession* to *Level Up*, they can follow their *Class Table* to track what they attain at each Level. Performing a *Level Up* requires a Complete Rest ___ In addition, Professions offer new bonuses & *Abilities* at each Level up to Level 10. For more information on Bonuses after Level 10, see the Beyond Level 10 Section #### Gaining Experience ___ **Gathering:** When successfully Procuring Materials within the world, you gain a number of *Experience Points* equal to: 1d12 + your *Gathering Bonus* + (1d4 * Quality Tier of the Procurement, where Rare = 1). ___ The Taming Profession instead rolls 1d4 * *Reliability Modifier* of the Target *Creature*. ___ **Crafting:** When successfully Crafting items, you gain a number of *Experience Points* equal to: 2d12 + your *Crafting Bonus* + (1d8 * Quality Tier of the Craft, where Rare = 1) ___ The Cooking Profession determines the Quality Tier of a dish by the highest Quality Tier Material present. ___ **Skill Checks:** When you successfully perform a *Profession Skill Check*, which also surpasses your *Passive Skill* total, you gain 1d6 + your *Profession Bonus* Experience Points. This also applies when Tamed Creatures succeed their own Skill Checks. ___ **Creating Basic Materials:** When creating basic materials such as Metal Bars, Leather, Cloth, Lumber & Stone, Flour & other Ingredients or another material required as a base for your crafting, you gain 1d4 Experience Points. ___ **Find Work:** For every 4 Hours you spend offering your *Profession's* services to Local Merchants & Business Owners, you gain 3d12 + your *Profession Bonus* *Experience Points*. You are unable to increase your *Gathering* or *Crafting Bonus* with any outside source unless you pursue the *Profession* you are utilising. ### Using Profession Tables Each Profession comes complete with tables, indicating specific items that each of them can create or obtain. *The Orator* can use these tables as a guide to create new Materials available for Harvest, new Crafts, and to impose *Profession Completion* & *Skill Checks* for custom player requests & interactions (see below). ___ The tables you find also act as a means for *The Orator* to create their own items and materials which can be harvested and crafted. Consider the items & materials you find throughout this section as a guide for creating new downtime experiences for the adventure. #### Profession Completion & Skill Checks ___ ***Your Gathering/Crafting Bonus is seperate for each Profession you are trained in, and they do not stack with each other*** ___ A *Profession Completion Check* is a roll which is performed to complete a Gathering or Crafting attempt. This is done by rolling a d12 + your *Gathering* or *Crafting Bonus* (Based on the *Profession* Discipline) + any additional *Modifiers*. These are also performed in the same way by those who only possess *Reliability*, and not a full Profession. ___ Each Profession may call its *Completion Check* something different; such as a *Procurement Check* for Gathering, or a *Creation Check* for Crafting. ___ A *Class* can attempt to Procure or Craft an Item of Higher Quality Tier than their own, however the requirement to obtain that Item increases by +3 per Tier (See *Profession* Tiers). ___ In some Scenarios or to be able to use your *Profession Abilities*, *The Orator* may impose or require *Profession Skill Checks*. To perform a *Profession Skill Check* you roll 1d20 + your *Gathering* or *Crafting Bonus* + any additional *Modifiers* (including Skill Points through *Adventurer Class* Levelling) ___ All *Profession Skill Checks* a Character might perform must be performed based on the available *Professional Skills* listed within the *Professions* Skill Set. ___ *The Orator* sets a *Check Total* for each *Profession Skill* or *Completion Check* where none is provided. A table of recommended *Skill Check Totals* is below. If the *Skill Check Total* is met or surpassed, the task is considered a success. The Assisting Character can choose 1 option from the following: * **A:** Add their relevant *Gathering* or *Crafting Bonus* to a d12 action. This Option can be performed once per section of a travelling day. Assisting Characters gain half of the *Experience Points* gained by the acting character. * **B:** Expend 1 point of Durability from a relevant Tool and Perform a relevant *Profession Skill Check* determined by *The Orator*. On a success, the acting character is granted *Willpower* on their d12 roll. Assisting Characters gain the same *Experience Points* gained by the acting character. ### Professions Equipment For information on Purchasing Gathering & Crafting Equipment, consult the Equipment & Enchantments, Gathering & Crafting Table. ___ All Tools purchased directly from the Equipment tables in the Equipment & Enchantments are created using Common Materials. It is up for *The Orator* to decide if better Equipment is available for purchase, using the Quality Costs table for guidance. ___ Each Kit, Set of Tools, or similar, always includes Common Equipment. This may be a Hammer & Pickaxe for a Miner, a Hammer for a Blacksmith, or a Pestle & Mortar for an Alchemist. 1 Durability is lost each time the Equipment is used in a *Profession Completion Check*. ___ When Durability reaches 0, *Profession* Equipment becomes unusable until repaired. #### Creating & Repairing Tools The Creation of Gathering & Crafting Equipment requires 3 Sets of Metal Bars of the same type, 3 Pieces of Small Lumber Material, 4 hours of time, and an appropriate workstation such as a forge or woodworking bench. All *Professions* are trained in the crafting of their own Equipment as part of their Level 1 Mentor Training. This process requires a *Profession Completion Check* of 6 + 2 * Quality Tier (where Common = 1) of the Equipment being crafted. ___ Repairing the Durability of a piece of Gathering or Crafting Equipment requires 1 Set of Metal Bars, 1 Piece of Small Lumber or a Reel of Cloth (Depending on the Tool) and 2 hours of time, restoring 5 Durability Points to the item. ___ Tools of Rare+ Quality Tier cannot be repaired solely with Lumber, requiring at least 1 Set of Metal Bars of the corresponding Type or Quality Tier. ### Material Pricing Recommended costs are as follows, per individual material, and are recommended to fluctuate based on supply and demand within settlements. When you successfully perform a *Profession Skill Check* within your chosen *Skill*, you gain 1 point of *Determination* }} \page #### Procuring Herbs and Lumber **Profession Completion Check** ___ When searching for Trees, you need only be in a place where they can grow. *The Orator* decides which size trees are available within the area, and the colouring of any wood you find. ___ Small trees provide 1 Bundle of Lumber; Medium 2 Bundles; and Large 3 Bundles. You require a Land Vehicle to be able to transport lumber. 1 Bundle of Lumber takes 1 hour to acquire, and you can dedicate up to 4 hours per day to Forestry, but you then cannot go lumbering again for 24 hours. : To locate Herb Patches in an area, you spend 1 hour and perform a Nature *Profession Skill Check* - known as a *Location Check* - allowing you to survey the area and discover a number of Havestable Patches up to your *Gathering Bonus* + 1. *the Orator* decides which Herbs are available within an area based on Locales and your *Location Check* total. ___ You can attempt to gather from a number of Herb Patches per Section of the Day equal to your *Gathering Bonus* + 1 . To attempt to gather from a Herb Patch, you perform a *Profession Completion Check* - known as a *Procurement Check* - against the Minimum Procurement Roll. If you succeed, you gain a number of those Herbs equal to your *Gathering Bonus*. For every +3 you roll above the *Completion Check Total* you receive 1 additional Herb and a 1d6 Experience Point Bonus (Maximum 1d6). ___ If you fail, you can perform 1 additional attempt before the Patch becomes Unharvestable, which does not count towards your total *Procurement Checks* for this Section of The Day. Creations with flat numerical Bonuses that can have their quality increased, increase all relevant values by +1 when being upgraded during the creation process, unless stated otherwise. ___ Example: A Bright-Eye Brew has a Creation Check of 7. To make a Rare Bright-Eye Brew, you need a creation roll of 10; an Epic Bright-Eye Brew would therefore require a 13. ___ Where an Item requires non-specific materials, such as 1 Bundle of Common Herbs for a Common Item, you can exchange these for a higher quality to guarentee a Quality Increase, without increasing the required *Creation Check*. : You require the ability to craft items of a certain Quality Tier to be able to successfully perform Quality Upgrades. If attained from outside of an *Adventuring Class*, there will be seperate rules for obtaining or using *Spell Lists*. ### Preparing Spells **Lesser Spell Preparation:** All *Spell* Casters can Prepare up to 3 *Lesser Spells* at a time, regardless of your *Mana* Source. Characters can change their Prepared *Lesser Spells* whilst undertaking an Adventurer's Rest or Greater. ___ **Greater Spell Preparation:** All Sepllcasting Characters can prepare a number of Greater *Spells* equal to their *Reliability Modifier* + their *Spellcasting Attribute Modifier* (Soul, if none present). This can also be performed a number of times equal to your *Reliability Modifier*. ### Spell Attack Roll Bonus Your *Spell Attack Bonus*, used for Melee and Ranged *Spell Attack Rolls*, is equal to your *Spellcasting Attribute Modifier* + your *Reliability Modifier*. ___ Where your *Primary Attribute* for Spellcasting is not defined or you are given the choice, you can choose which *Attribute* to use for your *Spellcasting Attribute Modifier* going forward from Mind, Soul or Persona. Once this selection is made, it cannot be altered, and also applies to your *Save Check Total* ### Save Check Total Your *Save Check Total*, used for *Spells* requring a *Saving Check*, is equal to 9 + your *Spellcasting Attribute Modifier* + your *Reliability Modifier*. ___ Where a *Save Check* is mentioned in a *Spell* or *Ability* you use, always use this number to determine a *Creature's* failure or success. ### Spell Tags ##### Concentration *Spells* that require Concentration to maintain force you to make a Concentration *Skill Check* to maintain the *Spell* when you are struck by an attack. The total of your roll must be equal to or higher than the Total Damage dealt to you. ___ You can maintain Concentration on one Effect or *Spell* at a time unles stated otherwise by an *Ability*. ##### Illusions *Illusion Spells* cause spectral images to appear or alter terrain. To discern *Illusions*, Characters can attempt the Insight or Magiks *Skills* with a *Skill Check Total* equal to 9 + *Mana Spend* (Maximum 30, as per Difficulty Tiers). *Creatures* can only control 1 *Illusion* (regardless of Concentration) at a time, unless stated otherwise. ##### Rituals *Ritual Spells* require you to spend your *Mana* as per the normal casting of a *Spell*, but you must remain stationary and in total Concentration during the casting process. This means you cannot perform other tasks whilst doing so. Only 1 *Ritual* may be performed at a time. ##### Summons These spells often conjure *Creatures* or Objects that perform there own actions, or can be called upon to perform new Actions. A *Creature* can control multiple *Summon* *Spells*, whilst also abiding by the standard Concentration rules. ##### Materials Some *Spells* require Materials (Marked as M). A *Creature* can attempt to force their way through the Portal by performing a contested Magiks *Skill Check* against you. ___ The creation of a Portal Stone requires a Cut Gemstone worth 200 Gold Pieces, and a 1 Day *Ritual*, in which the stone is solidified in a location of your choosing. Enhancements

\page {{wide ### Progression Beyond Classes Enhancements offer Characters a unique way to gain access to new Abilities & Upgrades without pursuing new *Classes*. Some Enhancements are tailored towards *Adventurers*, providing new tactics to use within Combat Encounters, whilst others are focused upon improving Gathering & Crafting through the use of *Professions*. ___ There is no limit to the number of Enhancements a Character can possess. #### Acquiring new Enhancements Characters can gain access to new Enhancements in two different ways: ___ **Self Fulfillment** requires a Character to witness or undergo an event which enlightens them to a Enhancement; allowing them to then begin pursuing their training. ___ **Tutelage** require a Character to learn of an Enhancement through interacting with a Teacher. Tutelage will require the Character to be in the presence of their teacher in order to pursue training, unless they are asked to complete tasks or training seperately. Tutelage may also come in the form of Tomes of Knowledge (see Enchanted Equipment). ___ Regardless of a Character's method of acquisition, all Enhancements follow a set of requirements: ##### Tier Requirement The relevant *Adventurer* or *Profession Tier* which must be possessed by the Character in order for them to begin their training. Cosmology

\page {{wide ### The Crystal The Cosmology of the Z'RPG exists within a Grand Crystal, adrift within the Cosmos of Stars. This last bastion of Light within the universe is pursued by an ever-encroaching Darkness, which threatens to engulf The Crystal should it fall to weakness. ___ All those who live within the Realms fuel the Soul of The Crystal through their deeds & actions, eventually returning their Blood & Spirit to The Echostream - The spiritual center of The Crystal - when they pass on. This cycle prevents The Darkness from completing its goal, but it is a fine balance which must be kept, for the forces of this evil lurk amongst all the Realms. ___ ##### **Creation of The Realms** ___ Long before the creation of the gods, a great war was waged between The Crystal and the forces of The Darkness which sought to claim her. Whilst this conquest ultimately failed, it led to the shattering of The Crystal, turning it into many shards which now house various differing environments; known to the common-folk as Realms. ___ Each Realm represents a different characteristic of The Crystal, with The Realm being The Core - the place in which all these aspects meet and become one as part of a delicate harmony. shared between them all, however, are The Sun & Moon; Great Celestials which shine their Reflections in all the shards of The Crystal. ___ ##### **Traversing Realms** ___ Across The Realm (The Core Realm), there are many Gates which are known to exist, and other which are yet to be discovered. Gates can come in myriad forms as well: Portals, Places of Natural Power, Magikal Tomes; wherever there is a strong connection of another Realm, its magik will surely latch onto something. Gates must be utilised by Characters in order to traverse the Realms, sometimes requiring them to hop through many Realms before arriving at their desired destination. ___ **Attunement** is another path Characters can take towards enabling transportation between Realms. In order for a Character to transport themselves to another Realm without the use of a Gate, they will require Attunement; a blessing which has been gifted to them by a being who has undergone an Awakening (See Understanding The Gods). ### The Ley-Lines Known as an Essence Realm, The Ley-Lines was created during the shattering when the power of The Crystal was released into the Cosmos when it shattered, filling the spaces between the Shards and once more binding The Crystal together through the use of powerful tethers. ___ ##### **The Home of Magik** ___ The energy kept within The Ley-Lines is known as Aether - or Aetherial Energy - which draws elements and power from the Realms in order to fuel the Tethers that bind them. This energy can be called upon Souls which have developed ties to the natural Aether of the Realms, enabling the casting of effects known as Magiks. ___ ##### **The Limits of Souls** ___ All aspects of an adventure call upon the Aether of the Ley-Lines to nurture Characters in different ways. Some Sacrifice Aetherial power to benefit from greater strength, attunement to the wilds, and other aspects of The Crystal and its many Realms. Cultivating a Soul to grow into unique aspects is challenging, leading to the creation of Class-Guilds across The Realm. These institutions guide Adventurers on certain paths, enabling them to become beings worthy of carrying great power. There are some who pursue the paths of many Guilds, developing skills which enable them to Attune thier Soul to differing aspects; in some cases changing their skill sets entirely. ### Understanding The Gods ___ ##### **Godly Origins** ___ The origins of a Deity define their place within the Pantheon of Yh'lerios. Each of them holds a set of duties in accordance with their rise to godhood, reflecting the life they led or were destined to lead. ___ There were some who rose when our Crystal was shattered, tearing apart the essence of the primal beings who existed during the age of wisdom. These beings existed during The Age of Creation, forming the world around them as they ushered in a new future for the forsaken lands that were beset by The Crystal. ___ ##### **Awakenings** ___ There are others, however, who have emerged over the course of recorded history, undergoing the process of an Awakening of the Soul; binding them to the powers of The Crystal. ___ The memories & actions imparted upon the Soul determine the course of an Awakening, granting these creatures access to knowledge of The Realms and their traversal, but also imparts upon them a sacred duty. Even those beings who are considered Evil have their part to play. ___ }} \page {{wide **Lesser Awakenings** refer to the binding of a Soul to a Realm, rather than to the Crystal themself. These Awakenings can exist within both People & Beasts, granting access to great boons that exist to protect the many shards of The Crystal ___ **Greater Awakenings** are when a being ascends to attain insight towards all the Realms, granting them a greater purpose to fulfill in service to an aspect of The Crystal. Beings of Darkness usurp this power for themselves, bending it to their will with knowledge passed down by the origins of The Umbral Throne. ##### **Affinities** ___ The Affinity of a Deity determines their primary connection to The Crystal. Affinities are granted upon attainment of an Awakening, but they are often pre-determined. ___ Those who have Awakened with the power of *Light* are drawn to good-natured ideals, acting in service to the will of The Crystal and being the most involved in the protection of Mortals. These are beings who have ascended after lives of hardship that have remained true of heart; those who have valued the light in all things when only darkness would greet them. ___ Deities bound to *Nature* follow a path guided by the will of Creation. In the face of Right & Wrong, they place the will of Mortals that walk the lands over their own and their fellow Gods true intent. They see the life within each Realm as its own voice - one part of a greater whole - that must be cared for and nurtured. Some of those bound to nature find themselves enraptured by its fantastical power, causing their emotions to sway drastical and with extremity when not properly controlled. ___ Those bound to *Darkness* - the usurpers - follow a will of their own, acting only in their own intent and interest. Only some beings of Darkness exist with good intention; The Corrupted Dead was once one such being, before the fall of The Cursed Soul. ### Faiths Through the performance of their duties, Those who have received Greater Awakenings have also developed ties to certain values which represent their destinies. ___ As beings who have been given the gift of The Crystal, it is their charge also watch over the Souls of her Children, guiding their steps towards brighter futures. Within these developing Faiths, created by the Temples & Churches in their service, The Gods recognise the virtues of their followers, blessing them with the strength to learn & grow or even succeed in great challenges to come ___ ##### **Virtues** ___ These ideals exist as a way for the People of The Crystal to interpret the will of The Gods, lighting their way in pursuit of divine service towards the will of The Crystal or The Deities themselves. As mortals demonstrate these values, The Gods reward their completed duties with blessings when next they should offer themselves for Prayer. ___ ##### **Prayers & Offerings** ___ Praying comes in a myriad of styles: Soliders may perform rites with their Weaponry as they beseech The Champion; Priests of El'sarios may mediate upon the banks of a serene river; Sages may commune with the natural energies around them. These are all considered Prayers, and can be utilisted within your story through the use of Luck Rolls, *Skill Checks*, or Narrative Placement. The Completion of Quests is common example of a Character fulfilling a particular Vitue, which was likely demonstrated as part of their task. ___ Gatherers and Crafters may wish to present Offerings to their chosen Patrons. The best offerings are those that represent a Deity, which may be found within the tables provided within each Profession. In other cases, Characters may wish to create their own unique offerings using creativity and the materials they have available. ___ ##### **Applying Faith Bonuses** ___ As *The Orator*, when a Character performs what is considered to be a Prayer or Offering to a Deity, you can consult the Faiths table for that entity and award a Prayer & Offering Bonus should you feel they have fulfilled a Virtue. This action is especially important for Players wishing to Roleplay Invokers & Priests, who possess direct ties to the many Realms of Yh'lerios. ___ You may choose to award these Prayer Bonues without a roll should a Virtue have been met, but Prayer can also be performed at will without the need for Virtue fulfillment. In these cases, Character may beseech a God for help directly, calling on their previous services to obtain these boons. In these cases, you can ask the Player to perform a Luck Roll, and determine the success of their Prayer from their result. ___ Bonuses from the same Vitues do not stack. ___ ##### **Scaling Bonuses** ___ Each time a Character fulfills a virtue and receives a Prayer & Offering Bonus it should become more difficult to receive again - requiring completion of a Greater Task or Quest - but the rewards can increase as *The Orator* sees fit. ___ When Adventurer & Profession Tiers are Mentioned, Common is always considered to be equal to 1. }} \page {{wide
