# Tarkir Clan Backgrounds

##### Five new clan-specific backgrounds based on the Plane of Tarkir.

## Atarka Characters **Suggested Races:** Ainok, efreet, goblin, human

**Suggested Classes:** Barbarian, cleric, druid, fighter, ranger

## Atarka Hunter **Skill Proficiencies:** Athletics, Survival

**Tool Proficiencies:** Herbalism kit

**Lanugagues:** Chooses one of Ainok, Goblin, or Ignan

**Equipment:** A staff, a hunting trap, an herbalism kit, a beast-hide cloak, a trophy from an animal you killed, a set of traveler's clothes, and a belt pouch containing 10 gp

### Feature: Wanderer You have an excellent memory for maps and geography, and you can always recall the general layout of terrain, settlements, and other features around you. In addition, you can find food and fresh water for yourself and up to five other people each day, provided that the land offers berries, small game, water, and so forth.

Your clan's magic draws more heavily from earth and to some extent fire than opposed to water or ice. As a result, your magic is often accompanied by firey effects such as dancing embers or smoldering flames.

\page # Clan Dromoka >*Dromoka has regard for the humans who serve under her. In return for her protection, they obey with steadfast loyalty, acting as weapons for her and her scalelords against the other clans. *

## Dromoka Characters **Suggested Races:** Ainok, aven, human

**Suggested Classes:** Bard, cleric, fighter, palandin, wizard

## Dromoka Scaleguard **Skill Proficiencies:** Athletics, Intimidation

**Tool Proficiencies:** One type of gaming set

**Lanugagues:** Chooses one of Ainok, Aven, or Draconic

**Equipment:** A Dromoka clan insignia, a scale from a dragon, a tattered piece of a Dromoka banner (a souvenir from a famous battle), a set of common clothes, and a belt pouch containing 2 gp.

### Feature: Scaleguard Station You have place in the ranks of the Scaleguard. You can requisition simple equipment for temporary use, and you can gain access to any Dromoka garrison on Tarkir, where you can rest in safety and receive the attention of medics. However, Clan Dromoka is a family, and family gives as well as takes. As such, the DM may decide that your fellow brothers and sisters in the Scaleguard require you pay back their assistance with coin or favors.

Dromoka magic focuses on fortifying and protecting members of the clan—hardening their armor, sharpening and guiding their weapons, and bolstering their morale.

\page # Clan Kolaghan > *Kolaghan archers are trained in Dakla, the way of the bow. They utilize their dragonlord’s lightning to strike their target, no matter how small, how fast, or how far away.*

## Kolaghan Raider **Skill Proficiencies:** Intimidation, Survival

**Tool Proficiencies:** one type of artisan's tools

**Lanugagues:** Choose one of Giant, Goblin, or Orc

**Equipment:** A worn blanket, a set of artisan's tools, a trophy taken from a fallen enemy (a dagger, broken blade, or piece of a banner), a bone dice set or playing card set, a set of traveler's clothes, and a belt pouch containing 2 gp.

### Feature: Bad Reputation No matter where you go, people are afraid of you due to your reputation. When you are in a civilized settlement, you can get away with minor criminal offenses, such as refusing to pay for food at a tavern or breaking down doors at a local shop, since most people will not report your activity to the authorities.

### Clan Kolaghan Spells *Prerequisite: Spellcasting or Pact Magic class feature*

For you, the spells on the Clan Kolaghan Spells table are added to the spell list of your spellcasting class. The Kolaghan have a head-on philosophy of battle, dealing with obstacles by smashing directly into them. Their clan magics express this by channeling the the raw power of lightning and thunder into their enemies. Thunderbolts can be observed woven into their archer's arrows, greatly increasing their speed and transforming them into veritable, often explosive projectiles.

## Ojutai Student **Skill Proficiencies:** Acrobatics, Religion

**Tool Proficiencies:** one type of artisan's tools

**Lanugagues:** Choose one of Aven, Draconic, or Primordial

**Equipment:** A bottle of black ink, an ink pen, a prayer book or prayer wheel, 5 sticks of incense, vestments, a set of common clothes, and a belt pouch containing 15 gp

### Feature: Researcher When you attempt to learn or recall a piece of lore, if you do not know that information, you often know where and from whom you can obtain it. Usually, this information comes from a library, scriptorium, university, or a sage or other learned person or creature. Your DM might rule that the knowledge you seek is secreted away in an almost inaccessible place, or that it simply cannot be found. Unearthing the deepest secrets of the multiverse can require an adventure or even a whole campaign.

For the Ojutai, magic and martial arts are deeply intertwined. Ojutai mages sometimes weave their spells using a series of martial forms, and Ojutai martial artists draw power from the magic around them. Ojutai mages call on their martial arts training to unleash devastating combination attacks.

## Silumgar Acolyte **Skill Proficiencies:** Intimidation, Religion

**Tool Proficiencies:** Poisoner's kit

**Lanugagues:** One of your choice

**Equipment:** A scroll case stuffed full of notes from your studies or prayers, a poisoner's kit, a set of fine clothes, and a pouch containing 25 gp

### Feature: Leverage You can exert leverage over one or more individuals below you in the clan's hierarchy and demand their help as needs warrant. For example, you can have a message carried across town, procure a short carriage ride without paying, or have others clean up a bloody mess you left in an alley. The DM decides if your demands are reasonable and if there are subordinates available to fulfill them. As your status in the clan improves, you gain influence over more people, including ones in greater positions of power.
