\page # The World of The Witcher Welcome, player, to the Continent. A land of monsters, magic and corrupted fairytales. Whether you're here to explore and find riches, solve mysteries, make alliances, slay vile beasts or forge your legacy, the Continent has room for all. Provided, of course, that you can survive it. ## Introduction to The Continent The Witcher dark fantasy setting is the creation of Andrzej Sapkowski in his The Witcher series and given further life in The Witcher video games by CD Projekt RED. Perhaps the most defining feature of the setting is how many of the stories subvert traditional fairy tales in darkly humorous ways. ___ 2,500 years ago, the Continent of the known world was settled by elves, who came from overseas, meeting the gnomes and the dwarves already living there. These Elder Races created the world’s first kingdoms and civilizations. After a period of elven-dwarven wars, the dwarves and gnomes retreated to the mountains and the elves settled in plains and forests. The magical cataclysm known as the Conjunction of the Spheres changed everything. For a time, it shattered the boundaries between worlds, allowing new beings and phenomena to cross over. Though 1,500 years have passed since the Conjunction, traces of that event can still be found in the world. It was then that magic entered the world, along with monsters that plague it to this day. The Conjunction also brought the first humans to the world, their arrival marking the dawn of a new era. At first, humans were nothing more than refugees and intruders, completely lost in their new and harsh environment. Faced with unknown dangers, they had to fight every day for their very survival. The last five hundred years, however, have seen a rapid expansion of that young, ambitious race. Slowly but surely, humans transformed from refugees to conquerors, seizing most of the known lands from the Elder Races with fire, steel and spells. ___ Today's world is inhabited by multiple races and cultures, but for the last five centuries, humans have formed an absolute majority. In the North, their lands were divided among numerous proud warlike kingdoms, which fought incessantly amongst each other and against their larger southern neighbour, the powerful Nilfgaardian Empire. Post the Third Northern War, Nilfgaard has successfully defeated the Northern Realms, imposing its black and gold banner on almost all of the Continent. ____ The time of the other races has passed. Elves, dwarves, and other species have been forced to coexist with humans in a human-dominated world. Before the Third War, that meant racial discrimination, ostracism and hatred. Under Nilfgaardian law, non-humans are to be treated more fairly, giving these races some respite. However, people are not so quick to mend their old ways, especially if they provide a means of blaming someone else for all their problems and forgetting the darkness within themselves. ___ And of course: the monsters. People have built fortifications and large settlements to deter monster attacks. To some extent, they fulfil their purpose, but they aren't foolproof as seen in The Night of Long Fangs at Toussaint; intelligent monsters can infiltrate them without much trouble and every settlement has its blindspots. Remote settlements like villages face wild monsters such as Drowners, Ghouls and Kikimores. Basilisks and Griffins prowl the skies, Sirens surf the waves, Leshy stalk ancient forests. And of course, the distinction between monster and man is a conundrum for even the Continent's most enlightened moral authorities... ___ As a defence against these creatures, humanity created a group of warriors, granted extreme physical capabilities (and ostensibly stripped of emotions) through mutations, armed with weapons training and magic. As long as there are things that go 'bump' in the dark... a Witcher will 'bump' back. For years, witchers have roamed the land as professional monster hunters, taking money in exchange for exterminating dangerous creatures that threaten society. However, the prejudice and wild rumours surrounding this trade have also made witchers the target of persecution and outright hatred. At various times, they have been hunted down or lynched by frenzied mobs, and their schools plundered and burnt to the ground. Although the time of open hostility has ended, witchers are still widely distrusted and ostracized. Despite all this, and though they are now few, the last of the witchers still ply their trade, striving to remain neutral in the face of the conflicts and discord ravaging the world. ___ As if the forces of destiny wanted to play another cruel trick on this world, a Second Conjunction has occurred, unleashing more magical energy, species and monsters into the world. Civilization is battered, but holding on. For how long it can do so, only time and *you* will tell. As you embark on your journey across The Continent, be prepared for a world fraught with conflicts, where the line between good and evil is often blurred. Will you take up the sword as a Witcher, fight for the independence of the Northern Realms, or unearth magical revelations in this ever-changing landscape? The choices you make will shape the destiny of this realm and your own legacy. ___ Between politics, religion, magic, and the beasts that roam the wild, one thing's for certain: There will always be another monster.

\page # Class Options For simplicity, you may consult the 5e Sourcebooks for familiar class options. This section contains only new homebrew content for the setting. Read on for guidelines and flavour for pre-existing options (pages 2-4), and the new Witcher class (page 5). ## Artificer Artificers are skilled in manipulating magical energies and enchantments, as well as repairing and modifying intricate machinery and devices. Artificers are new to the Continent, but with a useful, in-demand skill set sought after even by reclusive Witchers. ## Barbarian Barbarians are commonly found in Skellige, a group of islands known for its fierce warriors, but are present all across The Continent. They are skilled in close combat, relying on their raw strength, endurance, and sheer ferocity to overpower their enemies. Some Barbarians may possess shamanistic abilities, having learned to harness the spirits and energies of the natural world or the full potential of their inner beast. ## Bard Bards of the Northern Kingdoms often receive education at the University of Oxenfurt where studies range a whole gamut of subjects - alchemy, trouvereship and poetry, medicine and herbology, natural history, philosophy, technology, and spying. Bards of Nilfgaard often trace their education to the Imperial Academy where they study humanities, science, and linguistics. Although initially not inherently magical, the Second Conjunction has brought an arcane power to art that dedicated bards can access and channel through their work. ## Cleric There are various religions in the world of The Witcher, and the folk of the Northern Kingdoms are generally pagan and liberal in choice of religion. Many priests lack any special abilities whatsoever. While clerics claim to receive their powers from their deity, they use magic that is recognizable to arcane spellcasters. Whether their powers truly come from their god or if they are actually minor “sources” is a matter for debate. Moreover, the boundary between what constitutes a god and what constitutes a spirit or fiend (of the sort a warlock would make a pact with) can be very grey indeed in the setting. > ##### Limit of Death > Although the Second Conjunction has brought much magic to the setting, death remains an ever-present, nigh-irreversible threat that even the hardiest of adventurers fear. > _Revivify_, _raise dead_, _resurrection_, and _true resurrection_ exist but have certain procedures and costs associated, determined by the DM. ____ ### Coram Agh Tera Clerics of the Death domain (DMG) may worship Coram Agh Tera. Also known as the Lionheaded Spider or the Great Weaver, he is worshipped in secret throughout the Northern Kingdoms, with the strongest cell of worshippers in Temeria. Adherents believe the Great Weaver weaves the fates of all mortals, inevitably guiding them toward death; they are drawn from those who lived through a tragedy, have constant contact with death, or who love to inflict pain and suffering. Bloody sacrifices and long-lasting curses are common elements of worship. In some kingdoms, worship of Coram Agh Tera is forbidden. ### Cult of Kreve Male clerics of the Tempest and War domains may worship Kreve. Also known as the Forefather, he is widely worshipped in Kaedwen. A god of sky and thunder in the Nordling pantheon, Kreve is popular among seafaring merchants, monarchs, soldiers, and knights. Kreve commands his followers to fight evil, both within one’s own heart and against external forces. His clergy are skilled exorcists and often enemies of mages and pagan cults, especially Coram Agh Tera - the Cult of the Lionheaded Spider. ### Cult of Melitele Female clerics of the Life and Nature domains may worship Melitele. The goddess has three forms - virgin, mother, and crone - and her worship was once widespread but now is restricted to small cults. The most important temple is located in Ellander, where the high priestess Nenneke governs the cult’s affairs. ### Dana Méabdh Elven (and rarely dwarven) clerics of the Life and Nature domains may worship Dana Méabdh, known to the elves as the Queen of the Fields and to the dwarves as Bloemenmagde. She makes appearances to her followers in the summertime Feast of the Scythe (Lammas) as a golden-haired lady decorated with garlands whose feet don’t touch the earth.

\page ### The Eternal Fire Male clerics of the Light domain may worship the Eternal Fire, though they are very rare. Worship of the Eternal Fire is centred in Novigrad, having spread throughout Redania and Temeria. Its adherents believe they have the one true religion and fight against all abnormal beings such as non-humans, witches, and monsters. They are opposed by druids, followers of Melitele, and non-humans. ### Freya Female clerics of the Life and War (DMG) domains may worship Freya. Freya is worshipped mainly on the Skellige islands and nearby coastal areas like Bremervoord and Cintra. ### Prophet Lebioda Clerics of the Knowledge domain may worship the Prophet Lebioda, a saviour-like figure revered in Toussaint, Kovir and Poviss, and the Hengfors League. Lebioda was a saint known for his wisdom and philosophical musings embodied in the Good Book of the Prophet Lebioda’s Wisdom. ### Veyopatis Clerics of the Nature domain may worship Veyopatis, a nearly forgotten guardian god of the Pontar Valley. A guardian god associated with rivers, he protects people from the dangers that lurk in the woods. ## Druid Druids are usually hermits seeking to understand nature. Their sacred groves are grown around a Tree of Life, a sanctuary where bloodshed is forbidden. Leaders of druid circles are known as hierophants (male) or flaminicas (female). Druid circles are known to inhabit the Skellige Isles, Caed Dhu, a forest in Angren where druids once lived but were forced to flee south, and Caed Myrkvid, a mist-shrouded forest in Toussaint where the druids fled to. ## Fighter Fighters are veterans of the recent wars and often belong(ed) to one of the world’s armed forces. A few possibilities include: ___ - **Black Infantry:** Nilfgaardian covert/special operations group - **Blue Stripes:** Temerian special forces made up of ruthless and utterly patriotic humans. - **Dun Banner:** A Kaedweni light cavalry regiment that was devastated beyond resurrection. - **Free Company:** An elite mercenary unit (condottieri) financed by Kovir. - **Free Slopes:** Irregulars waving a guerrilla war against Nilfgaard, seeking Sodden’s liberation. - **Landsknechts:** Finest Redanian armoured division wielding halberds, pikes, and greatswords. - **Mahakam Volunteer Army:** A dwarven infantry sent on suicide missions. - **Poor Fucking Infantry:** Conscripts and volunteers who joined the Temerian army. ## Monk No examples of monks in the setting come to mind, but one might come from distant Zerrikania, Haakland or Ofir. ## Paladin Paladins with an Oath of Devotion or Oath of Vengeance may belong to one of two knightly religious orders: The Order of the Flaming Rose is affiliated with the Eternal Fire, and the Order of the White Rose is affiliated with the Cult of Kreve. Whether their powers truly come from their god or if they are actually minor “sources” (see below) is a matter for debate. A paladin with an Oath the Ancients would most likely be a warden of one of the Nature-based religions like Melitele or Dana Méabdh. ## Ranger If you want to play a PHB ranger, then your character would best fit in druid society as a special guardian who has been initiated into druidic magic, or as a character raised among the dryads of Brokilon forest who learned the secrets of the dryads. ## Rogue Rogues are plentiful in the war-torn Northern Realms, with thieves and assassins alike finding numerous targets among the wealthy and powerful. ## Sorceror In the world of The Witcher, a D&D Sorceror is known as a “source”, a person born with innate magical abilities that are difficult to control. Stressful situations usually work as the trigger for these abilities. Without proper training, most sorcerors are driven mad by the power they wield, though some manage to find peace with their inner turmoil. ## Warlock Warlocks are heavily persecuted in the setting and are favoured quarries of the Redanian witch-hunters. Archfey pacts might be made with Baba Yaga, the Ladies of the Wood, or the Wild Hunt. Fiend pacts might be made with Kotschie the Deathless or the Lionheaded Spider Coram Agh Tera. Great Old One pacts might be made with Dagon or the Water Lords. ## Wizard Wizards (or mages) are born with the gift for magic, like sources/sorcerors, but they receive training to control their powers. **Confusingly for D&D, female wizards are called "sorceresses" and male wizards are "sorcerors" in the setting. For purposes of clarity, we will stick to the D&D terminology: these will be called "wizardesses" or "wizards" and "sources" will be called "sorcerors".**

\page ___ Females are trained at institutions like Aretuza on the Isle of Thanedd, while males are trained at colleges like Ban Ard in Kaedwen. Training in these schools of wizardry takes many years, acquiring knowledge and mastering magical skills. Wizards often are proficient in History and with a megascope (see Equipment). Their powers cause wizards to age at half the rate normal for their race. Owing to their extensive scientific and political knowledge, mages are coveted as advisors by monarchs. ___ Wizards often belong to one of two factions: the Conclave of Mages or the Lodge of Wizardesses. The Conclave was once the preeminent ruling body governing mages of the Northern Kingdoms, ensuring that wizards and sources receive proper training, and regulating the standards and rules of magic such as the ban on necromancy and magic used in army-to-army combat. However, in recent years after the death of many members during the Thanedd Rebellion and persecution by the Temple of the Eternal Fire, the Conclave is barely hanging on by a thread. The Lodge of Wizardesses rose to prominence with the Conclave’s decline as a secret organization of exclusively female mages. Their secret goal to create a nation ruled by mages was exposed at Loc Muinne and led to many wizardesses being killed or imprisoned; only a handful of the powerful founding members remain.

\page ## Witcher ___ *"I carry two swords. One of silver for creatures that roam the wild. One of steel for humans in their cities of stone. They’re both for monsters."* - Geralt of Rivia, legendary Witcher of the School of the Wolf. ___ A human stalks the night, eyes shining through the pitch-black forest. He is surrounded by silence, broken only by the intermittent tapping of a medallion, shaped like a cat's head, against his chest. He stands still for a moment, tilts his head, then leaps to his left, narrowly avoiding the vicious maw of a Werewolf. A Chort comes to rest in its cave, horns bloodied after gouging the life out of some unfortunate creature. Its massive foot rests on a well-disguised pressure plate. Almost instantly, a flash of light and a loud explosion meet its face, clouding its gargantuan frame in noxious green gas. The half-elf watching in the alcove allows herself a small smile. Her silver sword is drawn and her free hand sparks with flame, ready to finish the job. Hearing the sound of wings, a human opens his eyes from a meditative trance and spots the Wyvern he hunts, closing in on him at 200 metres. He opens a vial and drinks from it. His face becomes veined, his eyes turn black, his muscles pulse with immense power and his blades glisten with oil as he prepares to greet his screeching quarry. ___ Witchers are professional monster slayers. Once belonging to an ancient Order, modern Witchers are trained at Witcher Schools that work independently of each other, established throughout the Continent. ### Becoming a Witcher The Witchers recruit human children into their ranks by adopting orphans, receiving unwanted children, and through an old practice known as The Law of Surprise, in which a Witcher collects on a life debt sworn by a hapless soul. As per the Law of Surprise, the reward could be the first thing that greets the person upon their arrival or something at home which they don't expect to find. It could be anything from a dog to a child, however, thanks to their uncanny senses, Witchers may have an idea of how it will turn out. In rare cases, unscrupulous or desperate Witchers kidnap children. ___ Upon joining the Witchers, a child faces three trials which mutate their body and mind. First, during The Choice they consume a diet of mushrooms, mosses, and herbs and must endure gruelling physical training - this is cleansing for the mutations to come. They also begin their study of monsters, herbalism, and sword-fighting at this time. Those who fail this trial (and don’t die from organ failure) usually leave the Witchers with some form of madness, such as excessively aggressive tendencies. Second, the young would-be Witchers are subjected to the infamous Trial of the Grasses involving the consumption of alchemical compounds that alter the nervous system and boost reflexes. It is an excruciating process that usually only 3 out of 10 children survive. The rest die in agony. One of the effects of this trial is to remove memories of the child’s life before becoming a Witcher. Third, the Trial of Dreams involves mutation of the eyes (allowing for night-vision), bone marrow, and hormones, though it also results in infertility. Supposedly this trial finishes removing the prospective Witcher’s emotion, though that remains debatable. In rare cases when a child’s mutation seems incomplete, a fourth trial is given, the Trial of the Mountains, a sort of vision quest which serves primarily to test whether the new Witcher’s memories have truly been removed. When the apprentice completes these trials they become a full-fledged Witcher and set forth from the stronghold of the school onto The Path, roaming the continent in search of monster contracts. ### Killing Monsters *"There will always be another monster."* - Vesemir, fencing instructor and legendary Witcher of the School of the Wolf. Given the Trials and training detailed above, suffice it to say that not just anyone who has slain a Nekker or two is a Witcher. Witchers undergo intense, backbreaking training in fighting, tracking, alchemy and Sign magic, and mutations that change their body, transforming them to the point that they are almost a separate species from what they once were. Benefits aside from payment include: - Accelerated magic healing and bolstered immunity to diseases - More magic potential than the average human, the ability to cast Signs - Superhuman strength, speed, reflexes and endurance - Extremely acute senses, night vision - Sterility (whether this is a benefit depends on individual interpretation) - Proficiency in swords, crossbows (dependent on School), Signs (basic magic), alchemy and tracking - Incredibly long lifespan (at minimum, a few centuries) ___ Although primarily monster hunters, a Witcher's diverse skill set enables them to fulfil the following niches as required: - Hunter or tracker - Investigator - Bodyguard or fighter - Consultant on monsters or weaponry ___ Witchers almost always take payment for their work. They are code-bound to do so. It is equally rare and profound for a Witcher to refuse payment for a job: either the Witcher truly feels that the coin will serve the issuer of the contract better or feels so offended that they cannot accept payment. While peasants often claim a Witcher’s only code is gold, some mages and monarchs believe all Witchers obey an ancient code of honour, obligating them to take any monster contract that comes their way. Fact is, there is no single code that unites all Witchers, and often there is tension between their schools over the philosophical tenets of being a Witcher.

\page Whether an individual Witcher strives to follow a code of personal honour and professional conduct is up to the player. Precepts of a Witcher’s personal code might include: - The Contract: Witchers do not work for free. Upon taking a contract to hunt a monster, the Witcher should make a good faith effort to rid the land of the monster. If the Witcher fails, the payment received should be returned to their patron. Likewise, the Witcher should observe professional courtesy and never poach a fellow Witcher’s contract. - Free of Emotion: The Witcher should strive to remain free of emotion and to keep an open mind; often the most obvious answer is the least true. - Knowing Man From Monster: The line between monsters and men can be thin indeed, and as the link between both worlds, the Witcher must discern what separates the two. - Law of Surprise: Witchers reserve the right to invoke this law in payment for a life debt. - Neutrality: Witchers try not to get too involved in politics; it usually ends badly and complicates their monster-hunting. - No Dragons: Witchers don’t normally hunt dragons out of respect for - and perhaps healthy fear of - this sentient Elder Race. In ages past, dragons were hunted to near-extinction. - Sanctity of Life: Humans, elves, dwarves, and sometimes even trolls are not the enemy, and the Witcher should avoid taking a sentient life in all but extreme situations. Likewise, the best way to deal with a monster may not lie in sword or spell. ### Creating a Witcher According to the canon setting, only humans and half-elves have the physical requirements to become a Witcher. If you have another race in mind, consult your DM. When creating your Witcher, consider how you were inducted into this life. Were you claimed through the Law of Surprise? Were you voluntarily given away by your family due to a lack of resources to sustain you? Did you run out on your own, seeking adventure or coin? This will help you shape your character's views of their profession and humanity/society as a whole. ___ Consider your Witcher's emotions (or lack thereof). How do you react to being an outcast (and consequently, about others being treated the same way)? Are your emotions truly stunted because of the Trials? Or do you only believe that and use it as an excuse to run from yourself or others? Is any flicker of humanity within you long extinguished by the horrors you have seen, or perchance committed, on The Path? Or, despite everything you have seen, do you still try to act by your values because, ultimately, life must move forward and so must you? ___ Think about how you view your life and profession based on your circumstance of induction, training and the events you experienced on The Path (if any). Your chosen Witcher School will probably have a significant bearing on this (refer to 'Witcher Schools' below). Do you view the life of a Witcher as a blessing or a curse? How do you think you fit into the larger scheme of society? How do you view monsters: as evil waiting to be vanquished or feral beasts that may not have the capacity to judge good from evil? Where, if at all, do you draw a line on slaying them? The last paragraph (about your personal code) in the previous section can inspire you. ___ How do you normally ply your trade? Are you confident in your sheer strength, speed or physical attributes alone to get the job done? Are you a planner who prefers to research the behaviour of your prey beforehand, preparing equipment and setting traps accordingly, waiting for the right moment to pounce? A little bit of both? Your Witcher School will likely influence these answers, or vice versa if you already have answers in mind. #### Quick Build You can quickly make a Witcher by following these suggestions: first, make Dexterity your highest ability score, followed by Wisdom (you may adjust your scores depending on your Witcher School: for example, you might want to have higher Strength and Constitution than Dexterity and Wisdom if you choose the School of the Bear). Next, choose the Outlander background. ## Class Features As a Witcher, you gain the following class features: #### Hit Points ___ - **Hit Dice:** 1d10 per Witcher level - **Hit Points at 1st Level:** 10 + your Constitution modifier - **Hit Points at Higher Levels:** 1d10 (or 6) + your Constitution modifier per Witcher level after 1st #### Proficiencies ___ - **Armor:** Light armour, Medium armour - **Weapons:** Simple weapons, martial weapons - **Tools:** Herbalism kit ___ - **Saving Throws:** Dexterity or Constitution (your choice), Intelligence ___ - **Skills:** Choose two from Acrobatics, Arcana, Athletics, Insight, Intimidation, Investigation, Nature, Perception, Stealth, Survival #### Equipment You start with the following equipment, in addition to the equipment granted by your background: - *(a)* scale mail, *(b)* chain shirt or *(c)* studded leather - *(a)* a martial weapon and a shield or *(b)* two martial weapons - a silver weapon of your choice - *(a)* dungeoneer's pack or *(b)* explorer's pack - *(a)* two level 1+ witcher potions of your choice

### Mutant Due to your altered metabolism after undergoing the trials, you are immune to human diseases, gain darkvision out to 60 feet, have an extended lifespan (a few centuries), and your body can process witcher potions which would be toxic to ordinary humans. However, as a side effect of this mutation you are rendered infertile, have a freakish appearance (e.g. predator eyes, strange coloured veins, sharp canine teeth, albinism), and may be the subject of prejudice. ### Medallion Upon completing your training as a Witcher, you are given a silver medallion fashioned in the likeness of your school’s creature symbol. When worn, this medallion grants you the ability to sense the presence of monsters within 30 feet, though you cannot pinpoint their location. In addition, it grants you the ability to use an action to sense the presence of magic within 30 feet, though you cannot identify the type of magic. However, some shapeshifting monsters can mask their presence from Witcher medallions, and armour or jewellery made from dimeritium masks the presence of magic for anyone wearing it. ``` ``` ### Witcher Alchemy You can craft potions unique to Witchers using a herbalism kit. Your Witcher potions use the following guidelines: - The maximum number of potions you can have prepared at any time is equal to your proficiency bonus. - To craft a Witcher potion you must spend 1 hour and use ingredients harvested worth the listed amount of gp or XP. For example, after killing a troll (worth 1,800 XP) you’d have sufficient components to craft 3 swallow potions. - You begin knowing the uncommon potion recipes listed for level 1+, and you learn rare recipes at 5th level and very rare recipes at 11th level. - You may consume up to your Constitution modifier (minimum 1) worth of Witcher potions safely before needing to take a short rest; if you consume more than this you become poisoned for 10 minutes and you must roll on the potions miscibility table (DMG) to determine the effect(s). The number of Witcher potions you’ve consumed is referred to as your Toxicity. After a short rest, your Toxicity reduces to 0. - As long as a potion is active, you have advantage on Charisma (Intimidation) checks.

\page ___ Specific Witcher Potions and their effects are listed under the 'Equipment' section later. ### Witcher School At 1st level, you choose a Witcher school that you were trained in, reflecting your fighting style and approach to monster hunting. Choose from these schools: Bear, Cat, Griffin, Leshen, Manticore, Owl, Viper, or Wolf. To begin with, your school provides no mechanical benefit; it is simply part of your story. Your school grants you features at 3rd level and again at 7th, 10th, and 15th levels. It also provides you with a list of special manoeuvres you can choose from. ### Witcher Signs Witchers wield a unique form of magic developed for monster-hunting called Signs. There are six known signs based on the classical alchemical elements: Aard, Axii, Heliotrope, Igni, Quen, and Yrden. Casting a Sign is a bonus action that requires a free hand, requiring only a somatic gesture. Each Sign has three uses: an at-will effect, a combat application, and an empowered effect which becomes available at 7th level. There is a stamina cost associated with the combat or empowered application of a Sign, represented by Sign Points. - Firstly, there is no limit to how often you can use the at-will effect of a Sign. - Secondly, when you use a Sign for combat, you expend 1 Sign Point. You cannot cast a Sign for combat when out of Sign Points. - Thirdly, once you reach 7th level you may empower the Sign you’re currently casting by spending an additional Sign Point. You cannot cast an Empowered Sign when out of Sign Points. - You regain all your Sign Points after finishing a long rest, and Sign Points up to half your proficiency bonus (rounded down) after finishing a short rest. - Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for casting Signs since you rely on instinct and focus to create magical effects. You use your Wisdom when setting the saving throw DC for a Sign you cast and when making an attack roll with one. - Concentrating on a Sign requires you to not only focus on channeling the Sign's effect, but also maintain the gesture of the Sign. Thus, while concentrating on a Sign, you cannot cast another Sign. If you do, you must end the Sign you were concentrating on. Taking damage provokes concentration checks as it does for spells. ___ - **Sign Save DC =** 8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your Wisdom Modifier - **Sign attack modifier =** your Proficiency Bonus + your Wisdom Modifier ___ #### Aard Aard harnesses the power of elemental air into a blast of psychokinetic force emanating from your outstretched hand. ___ - **At-Will Effect:** You conjure a minor breeze which might rustle some bushes or lift a small untended object into the air for a moment. Maintaining the breeze requires concentration. Or, you snuff a candle, torch, or small campfire within 30 feet. - **Combat Effect:** Each creature in a 15-foot cone originating from you or all creatures within 5 feet of you (your choice) must make a Strength saving throw. If they succeed, they are all pushed 5 feet away from you. If they fail, they are pushed 15 feet away from you and land prone. In addition, unsecured objects that weigh less than 50 pounds are also pushed away and unsecured fragile objects or crumbling walls may be broken. - **Empowered Effect:** In addition, each creature in the region is buffetted by the gale, taking 2d10 force damage on a failed save or none if they succeed. The damage increases by 1d10 when you reach 11th level (3d10), and 17th level (4d10). Medium or smaller creatures that fail their saving throw are also knocked prone and are incapacitated until the end of their next turn. ___ #### Axii Axii draws on elemental water and its mutable nature to influence the mind of a weak-willed being. ___ - **At-Will Effect:** You make yourself appear more menacing than usual in the minds of your onlookers (e.g. your eyes flash, your teeth sharpen, your face is draped in shadow), granting you advantage on Charisma (Intimidation) checks for as long as you maintain concentration. - **Combat Effect:** Choose a living humanoid within 30 feet of you. The humanoid must make a Wisdom saving throw. If you or your companions are currently fighting the humanoid, it has advantage. If it fails, it is charmed as long as you maintain concentration. If you or your companions do anything harmful to it or it succeeds on a Wisdom save at the end of its turn, the effect is broken. If it succeeds, it is not charmed, but it is briefly befuddled and has disadvantage on its next attack roll or ability check. - **Empowered Effect:** Upon a failed save, the charmed creature is either charmed or stunned (your choice), does not get successive saves unless you or your allies harm it, does not remember being affected, and casual onlookers cannot detect the effect. ___ #### Heliotrope Heliotrope is a simple ward against attacks, magic and spells based on the absence of elements. ___ - **At-Will Effect:** As a reaction when a physical force, spell or magical effect would force you to move, you reduce the forced movement by 10 feet. - **Combat Effect:** As a reaction when a spell or magical effect targets you, either the attack roll is disadvantaged or your saving throw is advantaged. - **Empowered Effect:** In addition, you gain resistance to any damage caused by the magic or spell for that turn. ___ #### Igni Igni channels elemental fire into a blast of searing heat. ___ - **At-Will Effect:** You light a candle, torch, or small campfire within 30 feet. - **Combat Effect:** All creatures in a 15-foot cone from you must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 2d10 fire damage or half as much damage on a successful save. Igni’s damage increases by 1d10 when you reach 5th level (3d10), 11th level (4d10), and 17th level (5d10). In addition, the fire ignites any flammable objects in the area that are not worn or carried.

\page ___ - **Empowered Effect:** This takes your concentration and your movement speed is halved. You focus intensely and conjure the flames more densely in a line that is 15 feet long and 5 feet wide. Creatures that start their turn in or pass through the line during their turn must make Dexterity saving throws, taking 3d6 fire damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful save, in addition to the damage from Igni's combat effect. ___ #### Quen Quen is the expression of elemental earth, grounding your life force to the earth and erecting a magical barrier around you. ___ - **At-Will Effect:** You perform a dowsing with a natural object (e.g. stick) to determine a cardinal direction you name or a general terrain feature (e.g. stream) you name within 120 feet. - **Combat Effect:** As a bonus action, you surround yourself with a shimmering force barrier that grants you 1d6 + your CON modifier temporary hit points. If you choose to concentrate, the temporary hit points are replenished at the start of your next turn. - **Empowered Effect:** The temporary hit points increase to 3d6 + your CON mod. In addition, when the barrier breaks or you choose to end it, all creatures within 5 feet of you must make a Strength saving throw or are pushed back 5 feet and take thunder damage equal to the remaining amount of temporary hit points. ___ #### Yrden Yrden draws power from the element of aether, creating a magical trap on the ground to ensnare your enemies. ___ - **At-Will Effect:** Choose an object within 10 feet of you. You can decipher a discrete magical inscription on that object that would otherwise be unintelligible, including a spell, a line of mystical runes, the name of a specific glyph or symbol, etc. Deciphering this writing does not invoke the magic contained in it. Alternatively, you may choose to magically block a closed door or similarly closed entrance from monsters as long as you concentrate.___ - **Combat Effect:** You place a fixed magical ward in a 15-foot radius circle around you that is invisible to normal senses and lasts for as long as you concentrate on it, up to 1 minute. Hostile creatures treat the area within the ward as difficult terrain. Invisible creatures in this circle are rendered visible. There are two versions of this ward that you may place: - _Radiant Ward:_ Each creature hostile to you that enters the area or starts its turn there triggers the ward, and must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 1d8 radiant damage and is restrained until the end of its next turn. An affected creature can use an action to make a Constitution check to end the effect. - _Magic Ward:_ Monsters normally resistant to nonmagical weapons can be affected normally within the area of the ward. - **Empowered Effect:** The radiant ward on a failed save deals 3d8 radiant damage instead and the creature is restrained and incapacitated. The magic ward also applies to monsters normally immune to nonmagical weapons, hostile creatures cannot take bonus actions or reactions within the ward, and projectiles fired into or through the warded area are destroyed. ___ ### Combat Superiority At 3rd level, you learn manoeuvres that are fueled by special dice called superiority dice. ___ - **Manoeuvres:** You learn 2 manoeuvres of your choice, which are chosen from the list of manoeuvres available to your Witcher School (also see the Battle Master Fighter archetype in the PHB). Many manoeuvres enhance an attack in some way. You can use only one manoeuvre per attack. You learn one additional manoeuvre of your choice at 5th, 9th, 13th, and 17th levels. Each time you learn a new manoeuvre, you can also replace all known manoeuvers. - **Superiority Dice:** You have four superiority dice, which are d8s. A superiority die is expended when you use it. You regain all of your expended superiority dice when you finish a short or long rest. You gain another superiority die at 9th level and one more at 17th level. - **Saving Throws:** Some of your manoeuvres require your target to make a saving throw to resist the manoeuvre’s effects. The saving throw DC is calculated as follows: ___ **Manoeuvre save DC =** 8 + your proficiency bonus + Strength or Dexterity modifier (your choice) ___ ### Ability Score Improvement When you reach 4th level, and again at 8th, 12th, 16th, and 19th level, you can increase one ability score of your choice by 2, or you can increase two ability scores of your choice by 1. As normal, you can’t increase an ability score above 20 using this feature. ### Extra Attack Beginning at 5th level, you can attack twice, instead of once, when you take the Attack action on your turn. The number of attacks increases to three when you reach 11th level in this class. ### Advanced Mutation While conventional teachings hold that the transformation into a Witcher is an over and done event, experienced Witchers learn that mutation is an ongoing process. Some would even say it is an accelerated evolutionary process. Choose one of the following mutations at 6th level, and again at 9th, 13th, and 18th levels.

\page #### Accelerated Healing You heal lethal wounds seemingly overnight but you must consume twice as much food as normal. Whenever you spend hit dice to regain hit points, you regain an additional number of hit points equal to your proficiency bonus per hit die spent. _Note: If you’re playing with Slow Natural Healing, a witcher with Accelerated Healing regains all hit points and half their Hit Dice after a long rest._ #### Alchemical Blood Increase your Witcher potion toxicity threshold by one. Even when you’re poisoned due to toxicity, the potions you imbibe still have an effect. However, when you suffer toxicity, and for every potion you drink while poisoned due to toxicity, you must roll on the Potions Miscibility table in the DMG. #### Bear's Endurance You have advantage on ability checks and Constitution saving throws you make to stave off exhaustion. #### Bloodhound Scent You’ve developed an acute sense of smell which grants you advantage on ability checks involving picking up odours. You can detect the presence of familiar creatures within 30 feet by sense of smell, though not their precise location. #### Cat's Reflexes You are quick to spring to action, gaining a bonus to initiative equal to your proficiency bonus. #### Griffin's Eyes You can see twice as far as a human outdoors and you don’t suffer disadvantage to your Wisdom (Perception) checks in a lightly obscured area. #### Leshen's Spirit You gain advantage on Wisdom (Animal Handling) and Intelligence (Nature) checks. You can also target a Beast when using Axii. #### Manticore's Senses Bombs that you craft (see 'Equipment') gain an attack bonus equal to your proficiency bonus. #### Metabolism Control Potions you consume last twice as long. In addition, by meditating for 1 minute you can control your metabolism in one of the following ways: - Purge poisons and toxicity from your bloodstream, removing the poisoned condition and any poison effects, as well as clearing the effects (and any toxicity of) all potions in your system. - Slow your breathing, allowing you to hold your breath for a number of minutes equal to your Constitution score. - Suppress all your life signs, allowing yourself to feign death. However for each minute you sustain this, you suffer 1d6 damage which cannot be resisted or negated in any way. ``` ``` #### Nerves of Steel You cannot be frightened, and you have advantage on Wisdom saving throws against fear-based spells and effects. #### Owl's Eyes Your darkvision increases to 120 feet, and you have advantage on ability checks to visually appraise or inspect anything small or highly detailed. #### Trance You no longer need to sleep. Instead, you meditate deeply for 4 hours a day. While meditating, you can dream after a fashion and don’t suffer the sleep penalty to Wisdom checks to perceive your surroundings. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit a human does from 8 hours of sleep. #### Viper's Tongue You gain the ability to sense nearby heat signatures, granting you a form of blindsight up to 30 feet. You can also detect poisons by taste and have resistance to poison damage. #### Wolf's Ears You’ve developed keen hearing which grants you advantage on ability checks involving hearing. Additionally, when an invisible creature you can hear makes an attack, it gives away its precise location to you until the beginning of your turn. ### Master Witcher At 20th level, you gain an extra attack. When you take a short rest, you replenish all expended Sign Points. If you roll for Initiative with less than half of your Sign Points and less than the maximum number of your superiority dice, you regain up to half your maximum Sign Points and all of your superiority die. All Intelligence checks you make to recall lore about monsters have advantage. ## Witcher Schools The Witcher schools are but a passing shadow of their former glory, and each has suffered grave setbacks over the years. Eight schools have emerged from the ashes: the schools of the Bear, Cat, Griffin, Leshen, Manticore, Owl, Viper, and Wolf. ### School of the Bear Amidst the howling winds of the icy Amell Mountains stands Haern Caduch or Bear Keep: the prior home of the School of the Bear for centuries. The School of the Bear was created when a witcher named Arnaghad splintered off from the Order of Witchers with some others, seeking autonomy. The Witchers of the school are known for a brutal fighting style relying on heavy armour, two-handed weapons and outlasting one’s enemy. They use it well against monsters with thick armour or ones in difficult terrain. The Bears follow a policy of autonomy and may be hostile to another witcher eyeing the same contract, even if it's a fellow Bear. They prize strength, endurance and decisive action. They often travel to Skellige, where most of the population and culture is like-minded.

\page ___ Most of the school was forced to leave the keep when folk riots grew to new heights, although a handful of witchers stayed behind and hid, waiting for tensions to die down or a moment where folk would need the witchers again. The Second Conjunction has provided them with this opportunity, and the Bears who left are slowly, steadily trickling back as the number of contracts in the region grows. #### Bonus Proficiency At 3rd level, you gain heavy armour proficiency and proficiency with an armouring kit which allows you to repair armour in the field and to don and doff armour in half the time as if you had help. Once on each of your turns when you make a weapon attack, you can make another attack with the same weapon against a different creature that is within 5 feet of the original target and within range of your weapon. #### Bear School Technique At 7th level, while you wear medium or heavy armour you gain 5 temporary hit points; these temporary hit points return after you spend a short rest tending to your armour. Additionally, you gain the benefits of the Great Weapon Master feat. #### Indomitable At 10th level, you can reroll a saving throw that you fail. If you do so, you must use the new roll, and you can’t use this feature again until you finish a long rest. #### Battle Trance At 15th level, after three rounds of combat, you enter a Battle Trance (known as Riastradh in Skellige). While in Battle Trance you gain the following benefits: - You have advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws. - When you make a melee attack using Strength, you deal 5 extra damage. - You gain 5 temporary hit points at the start of each of your turns. These are not cumulative. ___ You can cast Signs while in Battle Trance. However, if you can cast spells, you cannot cast them in Battle Trance. Your Battle Trance lasts for a number of rounds equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum 1). It ends early if you are knocked unconscious or if your turn ends and you haven’t attacked a hostile creature or taken damage since your last turn. You can also end your Battle Trance on your turn as a bonus action. Once your Battle Trance ends, you must wait for another three rounds of combat to pass before you can enter it again. #### Bear School Manoeuvres ___ - **Suggested PHB Manoeuvres:** Lunging Attack, Menacing Attack, Precision Attack, Pushing Attack, Sweeping Attack - **Bear Stance:** You can expend a superiority die to enter bear stance. Bear stance reduces the effect of any forced movement used against you by a number of feet equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. However, while in Bear Stance your speed is halved. Maintaining Bear Stance requires concentration. - **Great Fortitude:** When you make a Constitution saving throw, you can spend a superiority die as a reaction to gain a bonus on your save equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Rend:** When you hit a creature with a two-handed weapon, you can spend a superiority die to deal extra damage equal to the number rolled plus your Strength modifier. However, performing this mighty blow breaks your concentration and grants the next creature to attack you before the start of your next turn advantage on their attack roll. - **Weapon Bind:** When you hit a creature with a two-handed weapon, you can spend a superiority die to make a grapple check against that creature using your weapon. While grappled, each time the creature makes an attack or fails an escape check, it suffers damage (of the type dealt by your weapon) equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Withstand the Storm (requires Bear's Endurance mutation):** You can expend a superiority die to endure extremes of altitude or cold, or to extend a forced march, for a number of hours equal to the number rolled without any ill effect. ___ ### School of the Cat Based in the Dyn Marv caravan that travels the Continent discreetly and stealthily, the School of the Cat has a bad reputation for being the only school whose witchers accept contracts on humans and nonhumans. For this reason and for betraying the School of the Wolf during the Witcher Tournament, they are often subject to ire from even other schools. The school was created when some witchers decided to leave the Order of Witchers to create a better group, stealing resources and supplies. What Cat Witchers lack in reputation, they more than make up for in agility, swordplay and cunning. Cat Witchers are known for their duplicity and their fighting style reflects this; feints, lures, and dirty tricks are a regular part of their repertoire. They are adept at tackling monsters that could not be faced head-on, such as cursed ones sheltered by noble families or cunning monsters which require infiltration to defeat. Cat Witchers tend to work alone, but have no qualms in teaming up when there is practical value in it. Although the Cat School was left with no central point of operations when soldiers took the caravan, its Witchers remain independently active. Rumours suggest that they plan to reunite and retake the caravan. #### Bonus Proficiency At 3rd level, you gain proficiency in one of the following: disguise kit, forgery kit, or thieves’ tools. #### Cat School Technique At 7th level, when you wear light armour or no armour, add your proficiency bonus to your initiative checks and increase your speed by 10 feet. #### Deadly Critical At 10th level, your weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20, and your critical hits with weapons deal an additional damage die of the weapon’s type.

\page #### Cripple At 15th level, after three rounds of combat, you can take the special Cripple action. Make three attacks. A creature hit by one of these attacks suffers a level of exhaustion. Exhaustion is cumulative. Once you use Cripple, you must wait for another three rounds of combat to pass before you can use it again. #### Cat School Manoeuvres ___ - **Suggested PHB Manoeuvres:** Distracting Strike, Evasive Footwork, Feinting Attack, Precision Attack, Goading Attack - **Danger Sense (requires Cat's Reflexes mutation):** When you roll initiative, you can spend a superiority die, gaining a bonus to your initiative equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. In addition, you are not surprised. - **Dirt in the Eyes:** When an enemy you can see within 5 feet of you makes an attack roll, as a reaction you can spend a superiority die and impose a penalty on their attack roll equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Feign Death (requires Metabolism Control mutation):** When an enemy hits you, you can spend a superiority die as a reaction to fall prone and feign death. You can maintain your ruse for a number of rounds equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Lightning Reflexes:** When you make a Dexterity saving throw, you can spend a superiority die as a reaction to gain a bonus on your save equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Vitals Strike:** When you hit a bloodied enemy (at half or fewer hit points) or score a critical hit, you can spend a superiority die to deal extra damage equal to the number rolled. In addition, this opens a bleeding wound. The target suffers from the bleeding condition and takes the same extra damage at the end of their turn unless they succeed a Constitution saving throw. The target continues taking this damage until it succeeds the save or receives medical attention or healing magic. ### School of the Griffin Perched in the western Dragon Mountains of Kovir and Poviss, overlooking the sea from the mountainside is Kaer Seren, home to the School of the Griffin. The school was created when a group of witchers amicably departed from the Order and wished to keep some of its values. At the height of their power, the Griffin witchers enjoyed great respect, with the school's grandmaster even being summoned to the courts of rulers to give advice. Like the school of the Bear and Wolf, the Griffins maintained strict neutrality. The school used to possess important magic books in its library. Throughout the ages, the other Schools respected the Griffins for their study of magic and fighting style that emphasized fighting multiple opponents. Griffin witchers follow "knightly" values that show in the way they carry out their trade. This School is the only witcher School that has no self-imposed restrictions against killing dragons. It places a greater emphasis on Signs than other schools and greatly values knowledge. Like the School of the Wolf, its members' fighting style focuses on preparedness and flexibility. Also like the Wolf School, they encourage cooperation and teamwork. ___ The School lost its home in the 12th Century when mages caused an avalanche that ruined Kaer Seren. Surviving Griffins now roam the Continent. #### Bonus Proficiency At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with shields. You can cast Signs while wielding a shield and a weapon. #### Griffin School Technique At 7th level, your total number of Sign Points increases by your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1). #### Shield Sacrifice At 10th level, when you are wielding a shield, as a reaction you may sacrifice your shield to turn a hit against you into a miss or reduce a critical hit against you into a regular hit. After this, your shield is sundered and useless until repaired. #### Edge of the Shield At 15th level, after three rounds of combat while you’re wielding a shield, as an action you may make a special Edge of the Shield attack combined with the Dodge action. You lash out with your shield at the target’s face, then spin your shield to intercept all incoming blows. If you hit the target they take 1d8 + your Strength modifier damage and they are blinded and stunned until the end of their next turn. Once you use Edge of the Shield, you must wait for another three rounds of combat to pass before you can use it again. #### Griffin School Manoeuvres ___ - **Suggested PHB Manoeuvres:** Commander’s Strike, Manoeuvering Attack, Precision Attack, Pushing Attack, Rally - **Griffon’s Honor:** When an enemy attacks you or an ally, as a reaction you can spend a superiority die, granting yourself and allies who can see and hear you a bonus to an ability check of your choice equal to the number rolled until the start of your next turn. - **Risky Footwork:** When you trigger a hazard or trap, you can spend a superiority die. Add the number rolled to your AC or saving throw against the hazard/trap, or to an ability check to avoid the hazard/trap. - **Shield Swipe:** When you hit a target while wielding a shield, you can spend a superiority die to deal extra damage equal to the number rolled. In addition, your AC increases by an amount equal to the number rolled against only the target you just attacked until the start of your next turn. - **Shielded Resurgence:** When an attack roll that also requires a saving throw is made against you while you’re wielding a shield, you can spend a superiority die. Add the number rolled to your saving throw. - **Sign Strike:** When a creature takes damage from your Signs, you can spend a superiority die to deal extra damage of the corresponding type (force for Aard, psychic for Axii, fire for Igni, thunder for Quen and radiant for Yrden) equal to the number rolled on your superiority die + your Wisdom modifier. ___

\page ### School of the Leshen The School of the Leshen resides in a cave located in the Kestrel Mountains of Kaedwen. Much of this school is shrouded in mystery and they are reclusive even for witchers, to the point where other witcher schools may not even know of its existence. According to rumour, the first Leshen Witchers were from the Griffin school, departing after the fall of Kaer Seren. The leader of the school, a witcher named George (named after George of Kagen from the Griffin school) and his companions held respect for the creatures that they hunted, viewing them as part of the new natural order. As such, the Leshen School takes a more naturalistic approach to monsters; they refuse to hunt those monsters who are simply protecting their territory and would not otherwise attack. The Leshen School, taking a much different approach than other Schools, focuses on archery instead of swordplay (although they may still carry swords). Their fighting style emphasizes stealth, agility and setting traps. ___ For their nature-concerned approach, Leshen witchers are allowed safe passage through Brokilon Forest by its dryads. #### Bonus Proficiency At 3rd level, you gain proficiency in a trapper's kit and the Nature skill (expertise if you're already proficient). When you craft a Witcher trap, you add your intelligence modifier to its save and detection DC. #### Leshen School Technique At 7th level, while you wear light armour, you can use a bonus action to become invisible until you cast a spell or sign, or make an attack, or use a bonus action to become visible again, and terrain composed of plants, undergrowth, or similar natural obstacles do not count as difficult terrain for you. #### Entangled Bullseye At 10th level, when a creature triggers a trap you've set within visual range, you may attack that creature once as a reaction. You have advantage on this attack, and a hit is considered a critical hit. #### Arrow Storm At 15th level, you can use your action to make a ranged attack against any number of creatures within 10 feet of a point you can see within your weapon’s range, making a separate attack roll for each target. Once you use Arrow Storm, you must wait 3 rounds of combat before you can use it again. #### Leshen school Manoeuvres ___ - **Suggested PHB Manoeuvres:** Ambush, Disarming Attack, Precision Attack, Evasive Footwork, Trip Attack - **Aiding shot:** When an ally of your choice is engaged in melee with an enemy that you are attacking, you may expend a superiority die to impose a penalty on the next attack roll against that ally by that enemy, equal to the number rolled on the superiority die. - **Call for Beast (requires Leshen's Spirit mutation):** You summon a spectral Beast to aid you in combat with CR equal to half the number rolled on your superiority die. If the result is equal to or higher than your current level, you can summon a Beast of CR up to your level as an ally. If it survives, the Beast vanishes at the end of the combat. - **Lightning Reflexes:** When you make a Dexterity saving throw, you can spend a superiority die as a reaction to gain a bonus on your save equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Study Foe:** When you have a chance to size up an enemy, you can spend a superiority die and make an Intelligence or Wisdom check to recall or observe something about that enemy. You gain a bonus on this check equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Trap Boost:** When a creature is within 5 feet of the radius of a trap, you can attack them to force them into the trap by a number of feet equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. ___ ### School of the Manticore Somewhere in distant Zerrikania lies the School of the Manticore. Not much is known about the school even in rumour for it is not native to the Continent. Nevertheless, some of their armour diagrams and notes by their witchers have been found in the Continent, suggesting they were, or are, active here. Judging by their armour and weapon diagrams, the school has a focus on bombs. #### Bonus Proficiency At 3rd level, you gain proficiency in a demolitions kit, and when using it to craft bombs with Witcher Alchemy, you halve the cost of XP or GP. You can craft a number of bombs equal to your proficiency bonus and throw them as a bonus action instead of an action. #### Manticore School Technique At 7th level, your expertise in bomb-making has grown significantly. You gain the following benefits: - When you craft Witcher bombs, you can choose to increase their potency. When you throw a bomb that requires a saving throw, add your intelligence modifier (minimum of +1) to the bomb save DC. - You can now craft an additional number of bombs during a short rest equal to half your Witcher level (rounded down). #### Controlled Detonation At 10th level, you've honed your ability to control explosions and minimize collateral damage. When you throw a Witcher bomb, you can choose to affect only specific creatures within the blast radius. You can designate any number of creatures within the bomb's area of effect to automatically succeed on the saving throw, taking no damage or suffering no adverse effects from the bomb's explosion.

\page #### Precision Demolition At 15th level, you've honed your throwing skills to the highest level. You can now choose a specific target within the blast radius of your Witcher bombs. When you throw a Witcher bomb, you can select one creature or object in the area to fail the first saving throw of the bomb. After using Precision Demolition, you must wait for 3 rounds before you can use it again. #### Manticore School Manoeuvres ___ - **Suggested PHB Manoeuvres:** Brace, Disarming Attack, Evasive Footwork, Precision Attack, Quick Toss - **Lightning Reflexes:** When you make a Dexterity saving throw, you can spend a superiority die as a reaction to gain a bonus on your save equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Long-range Bombardment (requires Manticore's Senses mutation):** You may throw a bomb up to its long-range limit (100 ft) without disadvantage. - **Manticore Blood:** When you make a constitution saving throw against poison, you can spend a superiority die as a reaction to add a bonus to your save equal to the number rolled on the die. - **Storage Pouches:** When you brew potions while wearing medium armour, you may choose to spend a superiority die to increase the number of potions you can brew and carry by the number rolled on the die. - **Study Foe:** When you have a chance to size up an enemy, you can spend a superiority die and make an Intelligence or Wisdom check to recall or observe something about that enemy. You gain a bonus on this check equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. ___ ### School of the Owl At the edge of the Northern Kingdoms, Kaer Dylluan serves as the Owl School’s stronghold, nestled in a valley of the Dragon Mountains in lonely vigil over Creyden. Most Owl Witchers are female. It was formed when a few witchers decided to leave the School of The Griffin when Kaer Seren fell. As such, they managed to carry with them a lot of books and knowledge about magic. The School of the Owl was founded to be a repository of monsters and lore. Its witchers specialize in hunting monsters that can blend in with humans or cast spells. They are also knowledgeable of curses. ___ Kaer Dylluan was ravaged during the “night of knives and torches” by superstitious peasants. Several Witchers died in the violence, but Elowen, the ageing matron of the school, has devoted herself to restoring the keep. Rumour is that Elowyn even seeks to create new witchers. #### Bonus Proficiency At 3rd level, you gain proficiency in the Arcana skill (expertise if you're already proficient), and you learn the Mage Hand cantrip if you don't already know it. Additionally, you can cast the Detect Magic spell using your medallion, and you can also see invisible creatures for 1 minute and detect the presence of curses and other magical afflictions with this ability. ``` ``` #### Owl School Technique Starting at 7th level, your Witcher training allows you to channel magical energy into your strikes. When you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack, you can expend one Sign Point to curse the target temporarily. The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against your sign save DC or suffer the effects of a curse you choose. You can choose from the following curses: - Curse of Weakness: The target has disadvantage on Strength-based ability checks and saving throws for 1 minute. - Curse of Frailty: The target's speed is reduced by half, and it takes 1d4 extra necrotic damage on all weapon attacks for 1 minute. - Curse of Misfortune: The target has disadvantage on attack rolls, saving throws, and ability checks for 1 minute. ___ The target can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the curse on a success. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once) before needing a long rest to regain expended uses. #### Arcane Adaptation Starting at 10th level, you gain advantage on saving throws and resistance to damage from spells and other magical effects. #### Cursebreaker's Mastery At 15th level, you have mastered the art of curses and their manipulation. You gain the following benefits: - You can cast the _Remove Curse_ spell once per short or long rest, using Wisdom as your spellcasting ability. - When you use your Cursed Strike feature, the duration of the curse is extended to 1 hour, and the target cannot repeat the saving throw to end the curse. - You can cast _Counterspell_ and _Dispel Magic_ at their base level by expending 3 Sign Points, using Wisdom as your spellcasting ability. #### Owl School Manoeuvres ___ - **Suggested PHB Manoeuvres:** Disarming Strike, Parry, Precise Strike, Sweeping Attack, Trip Attack - **Block Missiles:** When you are hit by a ranged attack, you can use your reaction to spend a superiority die. Reduce the attack’s damage against you by an amount equal to the number rolled. If the damage drops to 0, the attack becomes a miss. - **Moon Sight (requires Owl Eyes mutation):** While within moonlight, you can spend a superiority die as a bonus action to see all hidden, invisible, or ethereal creatures within 60 feet for a number of rounds equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Perspicacity:** You can spend a superiority die to examine a creature you interact with as a bonus action. You gain a bonus on Wisdom (Insight) checks to gauge that creature’s motives and identity equal to the number rolled on your superiority die.

The creature’s true shape becomes briefly visible, and for a number of rounds equal to the number rolled the creature cannot change shape, phase, or turn ethereal. - **Study Foe:** When you have a chance to size up an enemy, you can spend a superiority die and make an Intelligence or Wisdom check to recall or observe something about that enemy. You gain a bonus on this check equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. ___ ### School of the Viper Situated in the mountains overlooking the Alba River in Vicovaro, the School of the Viper splintered off from the Bear School, dedicated to tracking the Wild Hunt. Their fighting style emphasizes dual-weapon fighting and close-quarters combat, swift evasion, rapid assault, and seamlessly blending offence and defence. ___ A calamity befell the school when their former stronghold was destroyed by Nilfgaard. From the ashes, Letho the Kingslayer allied with the Nilfgaardian Emperor to rebuild the School of the Viper in exchange for assassinating the northern kings. With Letho and his assassins dead or missing, however, the Emperor reneged on his agreement and the few remaining Vipers live as outcasts scattered across Nilfgaard and beyond. #### Bonus Proficiency At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with a poisoner’s kit and can craft poisons using the same guidelines as Witcher Alchemy. See the DMG for a list of poisons. Due to advanced Witcher training, your poisons bypass poison resistance and treat immunity as resistance instead. Your poisons can even bypass immunity for a creature if you research the creature's weaknesses (INT check). #### Viper School Technique At 7th level, when wearing armour that doesn’t impose disadvantage on Stealth checks, when you take the Ready action you can take your full turn as a reaction instead of just one action. This allows you to make a movement and a bonus action along with your readied action (provided you didn’t already on your turn). #### Evasion At 10th level, you can nimbly dodge out of the way of certain area effects, such as a red dragon’s fiery breath or an ice storm spell. When you are subjected to an effect that allows you to make a Dexterity saving throw to take only half damage, you instead take no damage if you succeed on the saving throw, and only half damage if you fail. #### Whirlwind At 15th level, after three rounds of combat, while you’re wielding two weapons, you can take a special Whirlwind action; you make a melee attack against every creature within 5 feet of you, alternating between your main and offhand weapons as you wish. Once you use Whirlwind, you must wait for another three rounds of combat to pass before you can use it again. #### Viper School Manoeuvres ___ - **Suggested PHB Manoeuvres:** Distracting Strike, Evasive Footwork, Precision Attack, Menacing Attack, Riposte - **Anchoring Strike:** When you hit a creature that can teleport or plane shift, you can spend a superiority die to deal extra damage equal to the number rolled. For a number of rounds equal to the number rolled, the creature cannot teleport or plane shift. - **Close the Gap:** When an enemy moves away from you, as a reaction you can spend a superiority die, moving a number of feet toward the enemy equal to the number rolled, and making an opportunity attack. If the opportunity attack hits you deal extra damage equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Lightning Reflexes:** When you make a Dexterity saving throw, you can spend a superiority die as a reaction to gain a bonus on your save equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Offhand Swipe:** While you are wielding two weapons, when you miss with an opportunity attack you can spend a superiority die and make an attack against the same target with your offhand weapon. If the attack hits you deal extra damage equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Viper’s Escape (requires Viper’s Tongue mutation):** The flick of your tongue provides you with a limited form of tremorsense. When an enemy moves within 5 feet of you, as a reaction you can spend a superiority die and move away from it a number of feet equal to the number rolled on your superiority die plus your Dexterity modifier. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks from that enemy. ___ ### School of the Wolf Based in Kaer Morhen in the mountains of Kaedwen, the School of The Wolf is a Witcher school created when the last witchers left the Order and set up their headquarters at Kaer Morhen. In its glory days, the Wolf School was one of the most recognized and trusted Witcher schools. Witchers of the school practice a defensive fighting style based on focusing on weak points, knowing their enemy, moving to their enemy’s outside position, and synchronized pack tactics when taking on especially fearsome monsters. Wolf witchers, like Griffin witchers, place a high emphasis on teamwork and camaraderie among fellow Witchers. This extends to other Schools as well, provided both parties are willing to work together. After all, a pack of Wolves can bring down prey that a lone Wolf cannot. ___ Kaer Morhen was overrun by human fanatics, leading to many witcher deaths and marking the beginning of the school's demise. The school was then betrayed by the School of the Cat at the Witcher Tournament, resulting in loss of life on both sides. Most recently, Kaer Morhen was attacked by the Wild Hunt and a fierce battle ensued, further damaging the already ruined keep. Today, only a handful of Wolves roam the Continent.

\page #### Bonus Proficiency At 3rd level you gain proficiency with a blade oil kit, allowing you to craft blade oils (see the Equipment chapter) using the same guidelines as Witcher Alchemy. #### Wolf School Technique At 7th level, when wearing armour that doesn’t impose disadvantage on Stealth checks, you have resistance to damage from opportunity attacks and increase your speed by 5 feet. #### Expert Tracking At 10th level, when you track a monster you learn one of the following pieces of information about it for each clue you find: - The monster’s name and what category Witchers classify it as. - The monster’s preferred terrain. - The monster’s general state of health (e.g. bleeding, disoriented, encumbered). - Whether the monster ate recently and what it ate. - Whether the monster is nocturnal, diurnal (active during the day), or crepuscular (active during the twilight hours at dusk and dawn). #### Deadly Cascade At 15th level, after three rounds of combat, you can take the Deadly Cascade action. This grants you three attacks. If you hit the same creature with two or three of these attacks, the hits become critical hits. Additional damage dice from sources like Sneak Attack or Smite do not benefit from Deadly Cascade. Once you use Deadly Cascade, you must wait for another three rounds of combat to pass before you can use it again. #### Wolf School Manoeuvres ___ - **Suggested PHB Manoeuvres:** Menacing Attack, Parry, Precision Attack, Riposte, Trip Attack - **Aural Acuity (requires Wolf Ears mutation):** You can spend a superiority die to determine how fast a creature’s pulse is pounding (a potential indicator of lying or impending violence) provided they are within 30 feet of you. Additionally, creatures within 30 feet that you cannot see don’t have advantage to attack you. These effects last for a number of rounds equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Deflect Arrows:** When you are hit by a ranged weapon attack while wielding a martial weapon, you can use your reaction to spend a superiority die. Reduce the attack’s damage against you by an amount equal to the number rolled. If the damage drops to 0, the attack becomes a miss, and if it would drop below 0 then you reflect the attack at the attacker if they are within 30 feet, dealing damage equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Pack Attack:** When you hit an enemy while one of your allies is within 5 feet of it, you can spend a superiority die, dealing extra damage equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. The next ally who hits that enemy with a melee attack before the start of your next turn deals extra damage equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Spring Attack:** When you take the Dash or Disengage action, you can spend a superiority die to make a melee or ranged attack as part of that action. On a hit, you deal extra damage equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - **Study Foe:** When you have a chance to size up an enemy, you can spend a superiority die and make an Intelligence or Wisdom check to recall or observe something about that enemy. You gain a bonus on this check equal to the number rolled on your superiority die. - > ##### Designer's Notes On Class Complexity The Witcher Class is a means to live the fantasy of being a Witcher from various Witcher media and tries to capture the same feeling through various class features like Signs, maneouvres and alchemy. The end product is a class with many decision points, from subclasses to potion crafting and maneouvres to mutations, which can create complexity (especially compared to other martial classes, and perhaps even some spellcasters!). Nevertheless, as someone who started TTRPGs with a Wizard (arguably one of the most complex classes in D&D 5e), I think that even if you're a first-time player and you like this class, you should go for it! The following principles aim to provide helpful tips to resolve this complexity, especially for first-time Witcher players. - **Start with a concept:** What part about being a Witcher do you find the most exciting? Do you like their supernatural perception and investigation skills? Do you like the pure martial and physical prowess they display on the battlefield? Do you like the thematic line they walk between human and monster? Do you like preparing for any foe using potions and alchemy à la Batman? Do you like the combination of swordplay and Signs? Using this as a guiding principle for your choices will resolve many of the options and choices for your character and allow you to live the fantasy you want. - **Communication is key:** Talk to your DM and fellow party members about what kind of character you might make at the start of the campaign, and consult them at decision points about your character to see how certain choices synergize with those of your comrades. If you made a choice you didn't like, check with your DM if they're okay with retconning it. D&D is a team game and you win when everyone else at the table is having fun, and speaking of that... - **Have fun:** The best choice for your character is the one that's most fun for you and your group! If you don't like to think about your character mechanics so deeply, then why not let the dice decide? Better yet, why not ask a fellow player who is comfortable with helping you and may be more enthusiastic about the complexity? At the end of the day, if your whole group is having fun at the table, you made the right choice.

\page # Equipment The world of the Witcher contains many new, interesting devices and contraptions. Wizards are known to use megascopes, Witchers for their silver weapons, blade oils, bombs and traps, and Witch Hunters for dimeritium weapons and tools. ## New Tools ___ - **Armoring Kit (20 gp, 8 lbs):** Proficiency with an armouring kit allows you to perform field repairs of armour over a period of 15 minutes, and also allows you to don or doff armour in half the time as if you had help. - **Blade Oil Kit (25 GP, 8 lbs):** A blade oil kit includes whetstones, rags, vials of various substances, mixing beakers, and reagents necessary to craft blade oils. Creating blade oils follows the guidelines of Witcher Alchemy. - **Demolitions Kit (50 GP, 8 lbs):** This collection of fuses, explosive powders, and other bomb-making components allows you to craft bombs. Proficiency with this kit lets you add your proficiency bonus to any ability checks you make to craft or use bombs. Creating bombs follows the guidelines of Witcher Alchemy, though very few monsters can be harvested for parts to aid bomb-making. - **Megascope (1,000 gp, 25 lbs):** A telescope-like device requiring an expensive crystal lens, a megascope can be used by spellcasters to assist in magical communication, teleportation, and scrying. When using a megascope you are proficient with, you gain the following benefits with these spells: - _Scrying:_ When scrying using a megascope, there is no limit to how long you may sustain the spell so long as you concentrate, and the megascope is treated as a likeness or picture of the target for its saving throw modifier. - _Sending:_ When contacting another spellcaster with a megascope, you may hold a conversation of any length. - _Teleport:_ When teleporting using a megascope, the d100 roll to determine whether you arrive successfully has advantage. - _Teleportation Circle:_ Every megascope acts as a teleportation circle with its unique sigils. - **Trapper’s Kit (25 gp, 8 lbs):** A collection of tripwires, snares, springs, blades, and other components for trap-making, this kit allows you to craft traps if you are proficient with it, following Witcher Alchemy guidelines. ___ ## Blade Oils **Fool's Oil of Sharpness:** Applying this oil to a weapon applies a -5 penalty to attack and damage rolls with it. It is used in some tournaments and training routines to blunt blows. ``` ``` #### Levels 1+ Blade Oils (Uncommon; 200 GP/XP) ___ - **Argentia:** A steel blade coated in Argentia bypasses the damage resistance of monsters susceptible to silver for 1 minute. - **Brown Oil:** Brown oil accelerates bleeding, requiring a creature hit by a blade coated in Brown oil to make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or suffer 3 (1d6) damage at the end of their turn from blood loss until they bind their wound, receive magical healing, or one minute passes. Creatures lacking a circulatory system are immune to the oil’s effects. - **Crinfrid Oil:** Crinfrid oil causes terrible pain to a creature wounded by it. When a creature not at maximum hit points is hit by a blade coast in Crinfrid oil, they must make a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or be unable to take bonus actions or reactions, and only able to move at half speed. The creature may repeat this saving throw at the end of each of its turns. - **Falka’s Blood:** Falka’s blood carries a curse, and any creature struck by a blade coated with Falka’s Blood reduces its maximum hit points by an amount equal to the damage dealt. After a short or long rest, the creature’s maximum hit points return to normal. ___ - **Mindbane Elixir:** Until you take a short rest, the weapon coated with this oil has a +5 to attack and damage rolls only against Aberrations, and a fool's oil of sharpness against creatures of other classifications. - **Savage Spoor:** Until you take a short rest, the weapon coated with this oil has a +5 to attack and damage rolls only against Beasts, and a fool's oil of sharpness against creatures of other classifications. - **Angel's Bane:** Until you take a short rest, the weapon coated with this oil has a +5 to attack and damage rolls only against Celestials, and a fool's oil of sharpness against creatures of other classifications. - **Ironheart Solution:** Until you take a short rest, the weapon coated with this oil has a +5 to attack and damage rolls only against Constructs, and a fool's oil of sharpness against creatures of other classifications. - **Wyrmfire Extract:** Until you take a short rest, the weapon coated with this oil has a +5 to attack and damage rolls only against Dragons, and a fool's oil of sharpness against creatures of other classifications. - **Storm's Fury:** Until you take a short rest, the weapon coated with this oil has a +5 to attack and damage rolls only against Elementals, and a fool's oil of sharpness against creatures of other classifications. - **Dryad's Curse:** Until you take a short rest, the weapon coated with this oil has a +5 to attack and damage rolls only against Fey, and a fool's oil of sharpness against creatures of other classifications. - **Hellfire Tincture:** Until you take a short rest, the weapon coated with this oil has a +5 to attack and damage rolls only against Fiends, and a fool's oil of sharpness against creatures of other classifications.

For a normal bomb, each creature within 5 feet of that point must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 12) or take 3d6 fire damage. More specific kinds of bombs, especially those that Witchers can use, are listed below: ___ - **Dancing Star (50 gp):** Each creature within 15 feet must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 10 (3d6) fire damage on a failed save and no damage on a successful save. Can be used to destroy monster nests if detonation occurs inside. - **Devil's Puffball (75 gp):** Each creature within 15 feet of the bomb's detonation must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, the creature takes 17 (5d6) poison damage and is poisoned for 1 minute. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn’t poisoned. - **Dimeritium Bomb (100 gp):** Each creature within 10 feet must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 17 (5d6) piercing damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. Each creature that takes any of this damage must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 minute. While poisoned in this way, the creature can't maintain concentration on a spell or any other effect that requires concentration. The poisoned creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. - **Dragon's Dream (75 gp):** Creates a cloud of flammable gas within a 5-foot radius of where it lands that lasts for 1d6 rounds of combat. When fire is introduced to the gas, it explodes, dealing 20 (6d6) fire damage to everything in the area, burning up the gas in the process. Creatures in the area must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking full damage on a failed save and half damage on a successful save. - **Grapeshot (50 gp):** Each creature within 10 feet must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 7 (2d6) piercing damage and 3 (1d6) fire damage on a fail and no damage on a success. Can be used to destroy monster nests if detonation occurs inside. - **Moon Dust (75 gp):** Creatures within 15 feet must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw. If they fail, the creature’s true shape becomes briefly visible, and for a number of rounds equal to the difference between the result of the save and the DC, the creature cannot change shape, phase, or turn ethereal. - **Northern Wind (100 gp):** Each creature within 15 feet must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw. On a failure, the creature takes 22 (4d10) cold damage and is petrified in ice until the end of the thrower's next turn. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn’t restrained. - **Samum (100 gp):** Each creature within 15 feet must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw. On a failure, the creature takes 18 (4d8) fire damage and is blinded until the end of the thrower’s next turn. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and isn’t blinded. Can be used to destroy monster nests if detonation occurs inside. ___ ## Traps Traps can be crafted during a short rest using a Trapper's Kit. Traps occupy a space of 5 feet and have a 5-foot radius. They can be deployed with an action (placed where the trapper is standing) and are triggered by the first creature to enter their radius. Traps are made to be well-camouflaged and in combat, a creature must use an action to notice them, making a Perception check with DC of the trap's saving throw. ___ - **Biter (75 gp):** When triggered, the trap explodes and affects a 10-foot radius. Creatures in this area must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 22 (4d10) shrapnel damage on a failed save and none on a success. The creature triggering the trap has disadvantage on its save and takes half damage on a success. - **Clawer (75 gp):** When triggered, the trap wounds the enemy with sharp pincers. The creature triggering the trap must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 22 (4d10) piercing damage and bleeding on a failed save, and half damage and no bleeding on a successful save. - **Conflagration (100 gp):** When triggered, enemies within a 10-foot radius of the trap must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 22 (4d10) fire damage and being set ablaze, taking 1d6 fire damage at the start of each turn until an action is used to put the fire out(if the target takes this action, they end up prone), on a failure. On a success, they take half the fire damage and are not set ablaze. When triggered, this trap triggers other traps within its radius. - **Fury (75 gp):** When triggered, the triggering creature must make a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or attack the nearest visible creature. They must repeat the saving throw at the end of their turn and cannot take any other action except attacking their newfound target (except the Dash action if they are farther than their normal movement speed from the target).

\page ___ - **Hunting Trap (75 gp):** When triggered, the triggering creature must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 22 (4d10) piercing damage and being restrained on a failure. On a success, the creature takes half damage and isn't restrained. A restrained creature can use its action to make a DC 15 Strength check against the trap to break free. - **Talgar Winter (100 gp):** When triggered, each creature within a 10-foot radius of the trap must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw, taking 22 (4d10) cold damage and being reduced to half their movement speed for a number of rounds equal to the number by which they failed the save. On a success, the creature takes half damage and is not slowed. - **Eclipse (150 gp)**: When triggered, it creates an area of magical darkness, as the Darkness spell, centered on the trap for 1 minute. You can see through this darkness as if it weren't there. - **Ethereal Pitfall (200gp):** When triggered, creatures in a 10-foot radius must make a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or fall into the Ethereal Plane for 1 minute. They can attempt another saving throw at the end of each of their turns to return to the Material Plane. If they don't return by the end of the 1-minute duration, they reappear in the same location they disappeared from. ## Witcher Potions Do note that a non-Witcher drinking any of the following potions suffers severe negative effects. They must make a DC 20 Constitution saving throw, failing which they take 6d6 (21) poison damage, gain two levels of exhaustion, and are incapacitated for 8 hours, while experiencing severe pain and hallucinations. On a success, all the effects are halved. #### Levels 1+ Witcher Potions (Uncommon; 100 GP/XP) ___ - **Bindweed:** You gain resistance to acid damage for 1 hour. - **Cat:** For 1 hour, your darkvision extends to 120 feet, and you can still see up to your default range of darkvision in magical darkness that would normally block darkvision (such as the Darkness spell). You are blinded by bright light or daylight. - **Golden Oriole:** Acts as anti-venom (PHB) and you gain resistance to poison damage for 1 hour. - **Kiss:** Negate any ongoing untyped damage from bleeding and you are immune to ongoing untyped damage from bleeding for 1 hour. - **Thunderbolt:** You have advantage on Strength checks and saving throws, your melee weapon attacks deal an additional 1d6 lightning damage (additional 1d6 while raining), and you gain resistance to lightning damage. - **White Honey:** Negate the effects of any potions currently in your system (including negating inebriation), and reset your Toxicity to 0. - **White Rafford’s Decoction I:** Identical to a potion of healing (DMG). ___ ``` ``` #### Levels 5+ Witcher Potions (Rare; 500 GP/XP) ___ - **Black Blood:** Your blood becomes poisonous for 1 hour. A creature biting you must make a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned for 1 minute. If that creature sucks blood (e.g. vampire or stirge), on a failed save it also takes 7 (2d6) poison damage that bypasses its resistances and immunities. - **Full Moon:** Identical to a potion of heroism (DMG). - **Swallow:** You gain regeneration for 1 hour. At the start of your turn (every 6 seconds), you regain 5 hit points. If you are reduced to 0 hit points, the regeneration ceases to function. - **Tawny Owl:** For 1 hour, you have advantage on Concentration checks involving Signs and temporarily gain Sign Points equal to your Proficiency Bonus. - **White Rafford’s Decoction II**: Identical to a potion of greater healing (DMG). - **Willow:** For 1 hour you have advantage on saving throws to resist effects that would stun or knock you prone. - **Wolf:** For 1 hour your critical hits become more dangerous. On a critical hit with a weapon, you deal an additional damage die. When you cast Igni, you light the target on fire; they suffer 1d6 fire damage at the start of their turn until someone takes an action to extinguish them. When you cast Aard, you knock the target prone. ___ #### Levels 11+ Witcher Potions (Very Rare; 5,000 GP/XP) ___ - **Blizzard:** Identical to a potion of speed (DMG). - **DeVries’ Extract:** For 1 hour you can see invisible and ethereal creatures. - **Maribor Forest:** Identical to a potion of vitality (DMG). - **Petri’s Philter:** For 1 hour, saving throws against your Signs are disadvantaged. - **White Rafford’s Decoction III:** Identical to a potion of superior healing (DMG). - **Wolverine:** For 1 hour, when you are at half or less of your maximum hit points, your weapon attacks deal +5 damage. ___ ### Decoctions (Optional Rule) A decoction is a special kind of Witcher potion brewed from parts of a monster that allow Witchers to emulate a semblance of that monster's abilities. Using this rule, players keep track of the types of monsters they have killed, how many of each type and the XP of that monster. This XP can then be converted to Witcher Alchemy but not vice versa, representing the conversion of specific monster parts into more general alchemical mutagens and compounds. If they have enough XP points of a specific type of monster, they can craft a decoction based on that monster. Once consumed, a decoction adds to the character's Toxicity and lasts for 24 hours, or until it is used (depending on the decoction's description). ___ - **Phase Spider's Decoction (700 XP):** Once consumed, a character can use their reaction to momentarily "blink" into another plane, causing one attack that hit them while the decoction is active to miss, before reappearing again. This uses up the decoction.

While disguised in this way, if the character attacks a creature surprised by them, they deal an additional 3d6 damage on a hit.
