# Forgotten Magic of the Old World ___

## Druidism Druidic Magic focuses on the power of the wild, the unyielding forces of nature, the primal strength of beasts, and the raw vitality of the forest. It is not a rigid craft nor a teaching, but a communion, only mastered by those who fully commit themself to nature. Druids mainly draw upon a mixture of the Winds of Ghur and Ghyran. : The origins of Druidic Magic are cloaked in mystery. Some claim the first druids were Wood Elves who shared their magic with humankind. Others hold that Taal, Lord of Beasts and Father of the Wild, was the first druid. Whatever the truth, the druids stand apart from society seldom seen within cities, dwelling in groves, stone circles, and woodland shrines. Their groves are seen as sacred by the faithful of Taal, though druids themselves may not serve the cult directly. What unites them is their devotion to nature and their role as wardens of the wild. Because of this, druids enjoy a unique acceptance of their magic, especially in Talabec. : The Wood Elves of Athel Loren practice magic similar to druidism. Their Spellsingers weave their art with the forest, spending whole lifetimes in communion with nature. You are a Level 1 Wizard (page 81), and begin play having memorised three spells from your Magic Lore (Druidism). You gain +1d when interacting with any animal or beast through non-violent means. ::::: \column ## Spells : ### Wild Growth **Casting Value:** :: 1 **Target:** :: Zone **Range:** :: Long **Duration:** :: Battle **Effect:** Grasping weeds and roots sprout from the earth, entangling anyone in their path. The target Zone is now Difficult Terrain. The summoned plants remain after the spell’s duration, but they are no longer animated. They provide little benefit, except if your goal is to create a thick hedge as a barrier. You can use extra Potency to extend the effect of the spell. 2 Potency: Choose a Deadly Plant, affecting anyone in the Zone. 3 Potency: Your plants grow to huge proportions, crushing anyone in the Zone. The tree becomes a Wildwood Spirit that cannot move but strikes at any foes within its zone. **Attack:** :: Roots and Branches (Short, 5d/4, Damage 4) **Protection:** :: Defence 4d/4 **Resilience:** :: 5 and 3 Wounds \page ### Beast Form (Any) **Casting Value:** :: Varies **Target:** :: You **Range:** :: Close **Duration:** :: Battle **Effect:** After a sacred ritual known only to Druids, you gain the ability to transform your body into that of a chosen creature. Each Beast Form is a separate spell. For example, Beast Form (Eagle) is a sperate spell from Beast Form (Bear). Work with your GM to decide on the creature, then determine its size and the traits the transformation provides. : **Size & Casting Value (CV):** Small Creature (CV 1): Bird, rat, or a small but vicious dog. You suffer +1D on the Wounds Table when you suffer a Wound. Medium Creature (CV 2): Wolf, boar, or giant spider. Huge Creature (CV 3): Bear, great stag, or white wolf. You suffer –1D (minimum 1) on the Wounds Table when you suffer a Wound. If you make a creature Huge, increase its Characteristics appropriately. : Adjustments: CV +1 for each trait (e.g. Fly, Fast, Enhanced Sense, Wall Climbing). : **While in Beast Form:** * You gain all traits of the chosen creature. * Replace your Strength, Toughness, Agility, and Initiative with those of the creature. * You may appear as a normal version of the creature or have distinctive markings (such as patterns resembling your original hair). * While in Beast Form you cannot speak and therefore cannot cast spells. * You may choose to end your Beast Form at any time. * If you suffer the Critically Injured condition, you immediately revert to your true form. : ### Grasping Vine **Casting Value:** :: 2 **Target:** :: Creature **Range:** :: Long **Duration:** :: Potency Turns **Effect:** Grasping vines sprout forth from the earth, entangling a creature and forcing it to the ground. The target must score as many successes on an Athletics Test as the spell’s Potency or suffer the Prone condition. To remove this condition, the prone target must win an Opposed Test against the caster’s Willpower using Athletics. :::: \column ### Amber Claws **Casting Value:** :: 2 **Target:** :: You **Range:** :: Close **Duration:** :: Battle **Effect:** You infuse your hands with the wild power of a beast, and your fingers become sharp Amber claws. For the duration of the spell, you wield two Amber Claws as weapons. These count as magical weapons and use Reason instead of Strength to determine Damage. They do not affect your Spellcasting ability : **Amber Claws:** Range Close; Damage R; Hands 1H Traits: –1D to Defence +2 Damage if you have the Talent Mighty Blow to use both claws effectively. : ### Bestial Tongue **Casting Value:** :: 1 **Target:** :: You **Range:** :: Close **Duration:** :: Battle **Effect:** The Shaman clogs their throat with the power of the Wild, causing their words to come out as the growls, hisses, or roars of any animal or bestial creature that they attempt to speak to. Just as with Humans, there is no guarantee that the animal will obey, respond, or even listen, but most beasts will be curious enough to pay attention and are more receptive to those using the spell. They are still animals and can therefore only communicate in a limited fashion. It is rare, for example, that a mouse understands the political intricacies behind an assassination and can tell you the name of the murderer, but it could tell you the direction in which it saw a man carrying a bloody knife was walking. : ### Fury of the Wild **Casting Value:** :: 2 **Target:** :: Zone **Range:** :: Medium **Duration:** :: Potency Turns **Effect:** You chant a furious litany that descends into bestial growling. You and a number of creatures up to the spell’s Potency in the target zone fall into a bestial frenzy. The next attack made by an ally during the spell’s duration is Glorious, and Charges gain +1D. \page ### Lifebloom **Casting Value:** :: Varies **Target:** :: Zone **Range:** :: Extreme **Duration:** :: Permanent **Effect:** The wild power of nature surges forth, overwhelming all signs of desolation and decay. Blighted ground bursts into greenery, barren soil becomes fertile, and withered trees unfurl with fresh leaves. A dry river may flow again, a polluted well clears into pure water, fields and orchards ripen quickly, and sick or barren animals are restored to health and vigor. This spell can only awaken what is already present and cannot create life from nothing. Discuss with your GM how much impact Lifebloom will have in the area; the GM determines a CV, similar to an Improvised Spell, but with Formalised Spell CV. : ### Earthblood **Casting Value:** :: 2 **Target:** :: Creature **Range:** :: Close **Duration:** :: Immediate You touch a willing creature and infuse it with the healing power of nature. Treat one Wound and remove a Condition on the target. The target may attempt an Endurance Test to determine if a recently severed limb reattaches. ## Improvised Druidic Magic : Druids try to mirror nature itself, guiding and influencing the wilderness around them. They live in harmony with nature and craft spells by listening to the wind or heeding the calls of animals. Druids are guided by whispers of the spirits and the land itself.
