# Locations and Map Key # Fablehaven ## 1. Muriel Taggert's Shack A dilapidated structure, overgrown by thick ivy and constructed around a large tree stump, functions as Muriel Taggert's prison at Fablehaven. Muriel Taggert is chained to the tree stump by a rope holding two knots, if the knots are blown on and removed, Muriel will make her way to the Forgotten Chapel and work towards freeing Bahamut. ## 2. Hidden Pond A couple of hundred yards across, with a small, verdant island at the center. A shrine to the Fairy Queen is situated on the island. Elaborate gazebos, interconnected by a whitewashed boardwalk, surround the pond. Flowering vines windd along the lattice work of the impressive promenade and has beautiful espaliers covered with delicious fruit such as nectarines. Elegant swans glide on the water. Butterflies and hummingbirds weave and dart among the blossoms. On the far side of the pond, peacocks strut and preen. The lawn is lush and neatly mown. The gazebos surrounding the pond are white and have smooth wood railing. Although unshielded from the elements, all the woodwork appeared to be in flawless condition: no peeling paint, no cracks, with no splinters. The gazebo is furnished with white wicker love seats and chairs. In some places the ubiquitous vines have been woven into living wreaths and other fanciful patterns. Parrots, monkeys, and goats can also be found there. Each of the twelve pavilions there are unique. One has a small white quay projecting into the pond. The little pier is connected to a floating shed that is actually a boathouse. The medium sized boathouse is locked on the outside.

## 3. Main House A large, victorian-esque house with gables and a turret. It is constructed out of dark wood and stone, and is old but in good repair. The windows are made of bubbly glass and birds nest hang under the eaves. The house is magically protected from the creatures that does not have access from the Register. ### The Dungeon: - Contains many vile creatures, creatures who have done things and broke the treaty severely enough to deserve a lifetime jail sentence. The main door to the dungeon is located down some stairs off the kitchen, the brownies use a smaller door through the dungeon to enter at night and do repairs as well as cook desserts. - There is a whisper hound on guard in the dungeon, an enchantment designed to hunt and kill any prisoner that escapes their cell. - Lesser goblins, Voorsh and Slaggo, fix and serve food to the beings in the dungeon that require food, though many do not. - Inside the dungeon is another door, blood red wood carved with intricate designs. These beings do not feed, and the door is hardly ever opened. - At the far side of the dungeon is what is called an oubliette, a pit in the floor covered by a metal hatch, this is a special cell designed for Djinn. This cell requires three keys and a word to open, at least one living person must know the word that opens the hatch or the spell is broken and the prisoner freed. If any of the keys are destroyed, the same happens. ### The Barn - Just behind the house. It is five stories tall, and has a weather vane. It holds the Milch Cow Viola. ### Backyard - Paths of white stones wind through flower beds, hedgerows, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and flowering plants, where they end at the pool. Suspened lattices hold tangled grapevines. The pool in the backyard has a black bottom, and is decorated with rocks to give it the appearance of a pond. Next to the pool lies a small, waterless fountain with a frog on top and an empty birdbath. ### Secret Attic - A secret room accessable through the bathroom, it holds many rare items and other magical accessories. The turret on the house is reachable from the attic, it holds a secret message from Patton Burgess. ### Study Room - A huge desk cluttered with papers is the first thing noticed. The massive head of a hairy boar with jutting tusks hangs mounted on the wall. A collection of grotesque wooden masks rests on a shelf. Plaques decorate the wood-paneled walls, along with a framed display of military medals and ribbons. There is a black-and-white picture of a much younger Caretaker Sorenson showing off an enormous marlin. On the desk, inside a crystal sphere with a flat bottom, is an eerie replica of a human skull no bigger than a thumb, which is probably that of a fairy's. In front of the desk are two high-backed leather armchairs, and behind contains another chair. A grandfather clock stands near a wall. ### Tree House - Stands in the corner of the yard opposite to the barn. The back side of thick tree holds up a light blue playhouse. Its position makes it hard to be found from most of the yard. The paint is peeling a little, but the littlehouse had shingles on the roof and curtains in the window. Boards have been nailed into the tree to form a ladder. The rungs lead up to a trapdoor, that when pushed open, reveals a big room. There is a little table with four chairs, and a jigsaw puzzle. \page

## 4. Eastern Hayfields Primary residence of Hugo the Golem ## 5. Greenhouse Can be reached after following a faint trail through the woods. Half of the greenhouse has been covered with all sorts of pumpkins the night before Midsummer's Eve. Besides plants, the glass structure contains a generator to power the lights and climate control. ## 6. Ogress' Home First encounter there will be a well on top of the hill with a bucket, if the bucket is lowered then raised up there will be hot stew waiting for them. Ogress has a passive 19 perception for hearing things. ## 7. Nero's Ravine Home to a Cliff Troll named Nero, he is very greedy, and one of his greatest pleasures is gaining more gold. He uses his seeing stone as a way to gain more riches, through trade with people who need information. Nero is devious, and forces his visitors to go through a test of worthiness before they can negotiate a deal. He fears, and therefore serves, the demon Graulus, and can help train new Shadow Charmers. Nero is a humanoid reptile. He has black scales and yellow-green stripes along his back, and across his arms and legs. He also has yellow reptilian eyes. ## 8. Valley of the Four Hills A large, open valley with a rounded hill at each corner. Tall brush covers the ground, mingling with prickly weeds. A dark stand of trees looms at the far end of the valley between the largest hills. There is almost no undergrowth in the grove, just rank upon rank of gray pillars supporting its leafy canopy. The grove in the Valley of the Four Hills is one of the most dreaded. ### Revenant's Grove - One of the most cursed lands of Fablehaven, a revenant resides there, with a magical nail in it's throat. The nail gives it extreme powers, such as radiating fear. A sinister feeling hangs over the area. The grove itself consists of leafless trees, and some wooden pillars supporting some leafs and branches. There is almost no undergrowth. ### Inverted Tower - a structure that serves as a vault for the hidden artifact at Fablehaven. Located in the Revenant's Grove, the entrance to the tower lies in the middle of a clearing where stands a sizable, raised platform of reddish stone flecked with black and gold. At the center of this spacious platform is a round socket surrounded by multiple circular grooves that radiate out like the rings around a bull's eye. To gain access, a key must be inserted into the socket. Once the key is in place, the outer rings drop away one at a time, until a conical stsircase is formed, which leads down to a chamber. - This first chamber of three is not much larger than the widest ring of stone, its floor a single slab of bedrock. There is nothing in the chamber except a pair of doors at opposite ends. One section of the chamber's wall is covered in writings in various languages, including a few repeated messages in English and fairy languages. Behind both doors are false staircases. Along the wall is an invisible entrance with a genuine set of stair leading to the next chamber. - The second chamber is large and circular. White stones set in the domed ceiling provide illumination. Deep, golden sand-some of which is quicksand-covers the floor. Monsters are depicted on the walls of this chamber- a blue woman with six arms and the body of a serpent wielding 6 swords, a Minotaur wielding an axe, a huge Cyclops wielding a great mace, a dark man who appears human from the waist up but has the body and legs of a spider wielding a javelin and a whip, an armored snakelike man wearing an elaborate headdress wielding two axes, and a Dwarf in a hooded cloak. Each figure has a key around its neck. On the far side of the room is a door painted on the wall. When touched, the painting becomes an actual door, but it's locked. One of the monsters' keys will open the door, but all of the monsters also become real when touched. Defeat a monster to obtain a key. Once the correct key is used, the door will open to reveal another stairway that descends to the third chamber. - On the floor is a complex mosaic depicting primates engaged in an enormous battle in tall trees. The mosaic's perspective is from the ground looking up and creates a disorienting effect. The instant the chamber is entered, the primates come to life, frenzied beasts intent on killing. Each ape wields a weapon the characters were carrying that was not the weapons contained in the key. Once the apes are defeated, however, a passageway on the opposite side of the room opens to yet another stairway, which in turn opens to the fourth and final room - a glass, black cat guardian sits atop of a pedestal, a key hanging around the feline's neck. This feline has nine lives, each more fearsome than the last. All nine lives must be defeated in order to obtain the artifact. Once the guardian is defeated, the hidden artifact will be revealed. - The second life is just a larger version of the first incarnation. The third had tufted ears and was as large as a lynx with disproportionately large paws and claws. The fourth life was a larger, beefed up version of the lynx, quicker, nastier. For the fifth life the cat resembled a panther, more patient and deadly. The sixth life was as big as a tiger. During the seventh life things start to get weird. It was as tall as a horse with dagger claws and saber-tooth fangs. It also had four writhing serpents growing out of its shoulders. The eighth life was much larger than a horse, had no snakes, but two heads that spit a sludge like acid. For the ninth and final life, the cat was truly a monster. It was enormous, with large wings, and twelve serpents coming out of its back. It had three tails and three heads, that spit acid like the eighth, but lots more. ## 9. Kurisok's Tar Pit and Ephira's Tree His realm mainly consists of a large tar pit where many valuable items can be found. ## 10. Forgotten Chapel A very old building, one of the original structures along with the cabin and the old manor. It held Bahumat for approximately two centuries. ## 11. Graulas' Cave Stinks of rotten fruit and decay, there are rotting and shattered bits of furniture around the walls of the cave. The demon Graulas resides there, slumped along the back wall of the cave. He radiates fear so if a character that does not have immunity to said fear enters his domain, they will be paralyzed. ## 12. Warren's House Warren will assist the players if asked/if told about a dire circumstance, after assisting once he will tell the players he is venturing out into unexplored realms of Fablehaven and will show back up at the main house after three-five days, albino and catatonic. ## 13. Great Marsh A mysterious, large expanse of soupy terrain that's one of the most perilous, least explored areas of the Fablehaven preserve. An abundance of moss and vines burden the trees, and shreds of mist swirl near the ground. The warm air reeks of decay. Fuzzy mushrooms and slimy rocks decorate half-drowned islands. Various paths run through the marsh, some real, some counterfeit. Explorers must beware of the Swamp Hag, who uses fake trails to lure travelers to their demise. ## 14. Grunhold a ring of stones that is the home of the centaurs of Fablehaven. Grunhold is kept alive by the soul of Grunhold, which is Bracken's first unicorn horn. The soul of Grunhold repels darkness, thus, it is a safe haven for light creatures at times of turmoil. ### Tauran Maze - holds the Soul of Grunhold deep inside a hill topped by warding stones. The Tauran Maze's protective, invisible walls are laced with fatal spells. Any intruder who touches them will be instantly struck down. Such contact also raises an alarm. At the heart of the almost unsolvable maze awaits Udnar the Mountain Troll as a final obstacle. - The entrance to the maze lies beneath the southernmost warding stone, which is too large to move and is bound in place by a spell. However, each night, two hours before dawn, the warding stones march for an hour, trading places. For that hour of the night, while the stones are marching, the entrance to the maze lies uncovered. - The walls of the maze are not invisible to shadow charmers ## 15. Abandoned Manor Once the main house and center of the Fablehaven community, this impressive manor, surprisingly intact compared to the road and the other dwellings that surround it, is three stories tall, with four large pillars in the front and a circular driveway. Flowering vines twist around the pillars and climb the gray walls. Weeds and young trees grow up from the flagstone road leading to the manor. Off to the side of this path are the decaying remnants of a humble cabin and a few smaller shelters. \page

# Plot Hooks ## Help Caretaker of Fablehaven contacts players asking for assistance transporting a prisoner/doing work on the preserve/knows one of the players. ## Traitor! Tanugatoa Dufu, Vanessa Santoro, and Coulter Dixon are enlisted by the Caretaker of Fablehaven to help search for the Inverted Tower. - Vanessa will bite the players during the night, Caretaker will believe there is a traitor in their midst and choas will ensue until the party solves the mystery. - Entering the Inverted Tower. - When the nail is removed from the Revenant's neck, the nail will burrow into the ground. Sphinx will come to put Vanessa into the Quiet Box and remove the current prisoner, who will go and summon the nail and plant it in Ephira's tree. ## Shadow Plague ## Faerie Queen Player recieves a good feeling about going to the Faerie Queen's shrine at the Hidden Pond, becomes a handmaiden of the Queen. ## Knights Caretaker enlists players into The Knights of the Dawn ## Solstice Night \page

# NPCs ## Coulter Dixon A short, stocky older man with a balding head. Collector of magical relics Carries an enchanted glove in his possession, the glove, if put on the left hand, can render the wearer invisible, so long as they do not move. Talking and breathing will not render the wearer visible. It does not mask smell. Will gift a Pixie Cocoon obtained from a Norwegian pixie. - This small, greenish pod is used by Norwegian pixies during winter hibernation. Once it has been properly treated and prepared, the pod can become an impervious shelter. To activate this item, place it in the mouth and bite down. The cocoon includes everything needed to survive for up to thirty days - even underwater. Its moist inner walls are able to filter both oxygen and carbon dioxide and are edible. The cocoon provides sustenance in the form of mildly flavored water, a gooey, peanut-butter-like matter that tastes somewhat like eggnog, and a tasteless, chewy pulp. Although the exterior casing of the cocoon is impenetrable from the outside, one may exit by simply pushing through its walls from the inside. Coulter also carries a silver sphere enchanted with a distractor spell. The enchantment requires a DC25 intelligence roll to push through, otherwise the individual can roll a DC10 intelligence check to focus on something near the object, then quickly scoop it up into their hand. If you focus on the ball it will distract you, so you focus on something near the ball. Once in their possession, the enchantment is rendered useless. Coulter will give the players a mission to teach and train Hugo for at least an hour a day, teaching him language, simple tasks he can do on his own, or fighting skills. It is up to the players, but Hugo is willing to join them in travelling the Preserve if he has finished all of his chores for the day. ## Tanguatoa Dufu A large, Samoan man with kind eyes and dark hair. Potions master- his specialty is bottled emotions, on his person he carries a medium sized potions bag containing: - Courage, calm, confidence, joy, fear, rage, embarrassment, and sorrow potions. - Small leaves - Beige paste - Various sizes of empty jars and vials. If asked, he will mix emotion potions for the players, depending on the type of emotion. He will also warn the players that using bottled-up emotions can be dangerous when used improperly. Too many good emotions can cause depression and too many bad emotions can cause the mind to linger on the bad things. Using them only in dire circumstances and only from a trained potion master is the smartest idea. Tanu has the knowledge and materials to create potions to: cure illnesses, induce sleep, awaken lost memories, induce love, provide courage, energize, enlarge, reduce, provide Dragon Insurance (comes in small plastic cylinders topped with cork stoppers. The user of this potion becomes fire resistant. Aso provides some protection from electricity and includes a jolt of courage to help combat Dragon terror.), provide fleetness, induce gaseous-state, and cause mental pain. - Tanu’s goals are to 1) protect the integrity of Fablehaven, keep the preserve safe from any dangers without or within. That includes protecting the people who live on the preserve, this is the topmost priority. 2) Find the missing relic, find the relic without putting Fablehaven or ourselves at risk. 3) Without jeopardizing the other missions, find a cure for Warren. ## Vanessa Santoro A tall, graceful woman, hispanic in nature, with somewhat of an accent. Collector of magical creatures Keeps a cage of drumants in her rooms at all times, contains twelve drumants of a non-venomous variety. They resemble tarantulas with tails like a scorpion. Vanessa uses a blowgun as her primary weapon, she keeps 20x darts dipped in the excrement of a magical salamander to put foes to sleep. ## The Sphinx Dark Skinned and extremely tall, dreadlocks. A member of the Knights of the Dawn, a society intent on keeping the Society of the Evening Star at bay. # Lore ## Magic items according to the lore of the world, can run out of magical energy. Many magical items exist that have powerful enchantments on them yet have run out of energy and are useless. Others remain functional but can only be used a limited number of times. Others seem to draw from an endless store of power. ## Becoming fairykind means that the Fairy Queen's and her fairies have infused a person with their magic. Ordinarily, a mortal must drink magical milk to perceive magic, though the effects wear off after a nights rest. After becoming fairykind, or a handmaiden of the Fairy Queen, a person will exhibit these magical properties indefinitely. Once fairykind, a person is immune to magical forms of mind control such as distractor spells, can see even in total darkness, can understand the Silvian language and others related to it (such as Gnomish and Goblush). A portion of the magical energy that naturally dwells in fairies now dwells within the person, and he or she can recharge magical objects and transfer some of that energy to fairies via physical touch. This person can also command fairies in the name of the queen to offer help or divulge information. Being fairykind is a rare occurrence, even more so than being "fairystruck", to the point where it's all but unheard of. ## True Golems were once actual, living creatures made out of stone, mud, or sand, but all except Hugo have long since passed out of Human knowledge. Manufactured Golems, also of ,stone, mud, or sand, were fashioned after the original Golem but are mindless puppets who exist only to carry out orders. \page

# Magical Items ## Adamant A rare, light and strong magical metal used to create armor and weaponry and it is known that wars have been fought over pieces of it. The material is virtually impenetrable ## Adamant Breastplate A smoky-gray breastplate that's considered a priceless, supernaturally durable piece of armor. It is made from adamant, the lightest yet strongest spell-forged metal alloy, which means it can't be bent or broken, and is impenetrable. It will stop any blade, turn any arrow, and can even hold up to the force of a sledgehammer. The breastplate is a coveted item wealthy lords have been known to empty their treasuries to acquire it. - One can be looted from the tar pit that is Kurisok’s Domain. ## Adamant Sword The sword is described to be tempered adamant, possibly even stronger than regular adamant. The scabbard is encrusted with jewels and was crafted by the Nipsies. One can be looted from the tar pit that is Kurisok’s Domain. ## Anti-Eavesdropping Candles Magical items that allows a private conversation to remain confidential. As this fat white candle burns, it prevents outsiders from overhearing sensitive information. Extra candles can be found in the wooden cabinet in the Hidden Attic. ## The Banishment Rod can send any object far away if pointed against a certain target and the words "Begone" are spoken out loud. ## The Beaded Sword was found inside of the Painted Mesa at Lost Mesa by Warren Burgess. He took it mainly as a souvenir but, in the Grip of the Shadow Plague, Patton Burgess found use of the powerful sword and used it in the fight against Kurisock. ## The Bow of Plenty is one of the magical objects kept by Grippa at Blackwell Keep. It is a bow that, when the bowstring is pulled back without knocking an arrow, will make an arrow appear, ready to fire, up to 300 a day. Once the arrow appears, name any number of arrows remaining for the day, and that many will simultaneously fire. The arrows, if more are fired at once, spread out and tend to seek targets.

## The Cloak of Innocence is a magical object kept at Blackwell Keep. If somebody is new to a preserve, has caused no harm, and intends no harm, the cloak creates a powerful shield around them and any traveling with them. Even if the companions are scoundrels. It was crafted by the wizards who first designed the preserves to provide complete protection to neutral visitors. It draws on the power of the treaty that founded the preserve, thus if the entire sanctuary fell so too would the power of the cloak. If anyone under the protection of the cloak harms a creature or steals something, the protection is forfeited for all. The cloak adjusts to the size of the wearer and changes from silvery white to black if the protection it can offer is revoked. The cloak will not work for someone who has previously done wrong. ## The Copper Rods are two magical items that the Sphinx has Kendra recharge for him. When two people are holding them, they can switch the two people's position. ## A Courage Potion is a fiery-hot liquid that leaves the eyes watering and the tongue feeling like it's licked hot iron. The initial sensation gradually fades into a warmth that spreads throughout the chest accompanied by an infusion of courage. This potion is best used when combined with a little fear and calm; otherwise; its user may become reckless and foolhardy. ## Covenant Knives are used by the Singing Sisters to bind their negotiators to their vows. If the vow is broken, a magical knife will hunt them down and kill them. ## Dragon Tears are a highly coveted, potent ingredient for making potions, they are extremely difficult to come by because dragons only weep when they are in the deepest of mourning or if they have committed a terrible betrayal. Dragon tears can not be faked or forced, and so cruel people have been known to capture a young dragon and murder its family just to collect its tears. ## Dragonsbane is the only poison that works on dragons. It is able to kill almost any dragon and its smell can not be perceived by them. It is derived from a plant called Daughter-of-Despair. \page

## Dullions are a cruder form of their cousin the Golem and are also capable of releasing great strength. They can be made of hay, tar, or other similar matter and they do not have their own free will and only to be instructed by its master. The only known ones is in the hands of the Society of the Evening Star and of the Somber Knight. In the series it was said that there was a Warlock that knows the extinct art of making Dullions. Note that their creation is an art. ## Energizing Potions will increase your energy and alertness when you are tired or exhausted. Can awake someone from magical sleep. ## Enlarger Potions enables its user to double his or her height and size. The necessary ingredients are extremely hard to obtain. ## The Register is a book that controls access to Fablehaven. When a visitor’s name is written in the Register, the magic protecting Fablehaven from intruders will no longer bother the person. Without recording a name in the Register, access to Fablehaven becomes nearly impossible. ## The Secret Attic is a secret room accessible through the bathroom, it holds many rare items and other magical accessories. The turret on the house is reachable from the attic, it held a secret message from Patton Burgess. The attic has been a perfect place to use the Chronometer. ## Jack-O-Lanterns are pumpkin that fairies have filled with magic. These objects are among the surest protections from creatures with dubious intentions. With the fairy lanterns, the commotion of Midsummer's Eve stays further away from the house. Artificial light works as well, but light from the fairies works best as a repellent. ## Fairy Queen's Shrines are places on preserves where humans and creatures can worship or ask for help from the Fairy Queen. They are usually guarded by magical beings such as Naiads, or like the Living Mirage Preserve, a Sphinx. The Fairy Queen turns anyone whose need she deems unworthy into dandelion seeds. - The Fablehaven preserve's Shrine is protected by Naiads. The Shrine to the Fairy Queen at Fablehaven sits on a small island, not seventy paces in circumference, at the center of a sizable pond. Although the island lacks trees, it has many shrubs and a curious , small spring that bubbles from the ground near the center of the island. At the head of its stream sits a finely carved Fairy statue, no taller than two inches, which rests of a white pedestal. A small silver bowl sits in front of it. ## Fire-Resistance Potions are a dragon-thwarting liquid that comes in small plastic cylinders topped with rubber stoppers. Though not completely fireproof, the user of this potion becomes fire resistant, which is useful when confronting fire-breathing creatures. Sweet, spicy, cool, and tangy as it is swallowed, this concoction also provides some protection from electricity and includes a jolt of courage to help combat dragon terror. ## The fleet boots help the wearer when in motion, assisting with every step to make the wearer move and run faster, allows the wearer to keep a quick pace for longer than ordinary, and are unusually quiet. ## The Font of Immortality is one out of the five hidden artifacts in the Fablehaven series. The Font of Immortality consists of an alabaster goblet embellished with shimmering enamel. The straight, pearly spiral of a unicorn horn serves as its stem, and a sturdy base finishes it off. It was the final artifact to be revealed in the series, and the first known to have been successfully extracted from its vault. This gilded goblet grants immortality to the person who drinks from it at least once a week. There are side effects, however, if you were to go a single week without drinking from it, you would turn to dust. If the Font is ever broken, it will re-form and appear somewhere else. ## The Golden Glove has the power to turn anyone and almost anything into gold. ## Gravity Rods have the ability to alter gravity for the user. Made out of ivory and one tip is colored black. - Black tip up: gravity pulls down - Black tip down: gravity pulls up - Black tip up slightly: gravity pulls down slightly - Black tip down slightly: gravity pulls up slightly - Rod held horizontally: zero gravity ## Holly Wands are short, crooked sticks that, when held above the head, wards off phantoms. The inherent properties of holly are a natural repellent for phantoms and ghosts. \page

## Glove of Invisibility It is a small, fingerless, gray leather glove, with straps on it to adjust for the wearer. It fit the hands of a fully grown human, but had also been used by children. The glove can turn the wearer invisible if they are motionless. The person may breathe, blink, and talk without detection, but anymore movement will render the wearer visible. The glove is unable to mask the smell of the wearer, which means that some predators may not be fooled. ## The Key of Forgetting is a jade key. If it's used on a certain door, the person using it will lose their identity permanently, meaning a complete memory loss and all of their knowledge about themselves. ## The Knapsack is a magical knapsack that was given to Kendra mysteriously while she was held captive by Torina. It has an extra-dimensional storage compartment so that once you are inside, the knapsack can be flattened, jostled, or dropped and you will not feel anything. The art of making such things was lost long ago. ## Limberjax A featureless, primitive puppet about nine inches high and made entirely of dark wood. Its wrists, elbows, shoulders, neck, knees, hips, waist, and knuckles are connected by golden hooks. ## Magical Cocoon He says that there is a certain species of pixie in Norway that hibernate in these cocoons in the winter. These cocoons can become very valuable if properly treated. Biting on the cocoon instantly expends it, enveloping the biter. It becomes an impregnable shelter and has enough food in the walls to keep one fed for months. ## Magic Salt is a white powder that is used to form a barrier of protection against danger, especially during Midsummer's Eve . When placed in a thick line on the floor, a Goblin, for instance, will not cross it. When scattered in the air, it produces a twinkling cloud of dust particles filled with energy that repels any would-be attacker. ## Magical Knots are strong magical items used to confine a creature or person. The only way to untie them is for someone to say " I sever this knot of my own free will," and blow on it. Once the knot is undone, strong magical energy is released and can be used to accomplish a spell. If all the knots are undone, the captive is free. ## A Mental-Pain Potion does no actual physical damage, but this potent mixture administered by injection sends a message of extreme pain to the brain by "talking" to the nerves. The intense pain often causes the eyes to bulge, the salivary glands to become overactive, and the victim to lose consciousness. ## The Seeing Stone Given to him by the demon Graulas, the seeing stone allows the cliff troll Nero to see most areas of the Fablehaven preserve. By definition, it was patterned after the Oculus, but not nearly as powerful. ## Null Boxes are magical boxes that serves a similar function to a Quiet Box. However, instead of keeping a person in stasis, a Null Box keeps an object in stasis. ## The Oculus is one of the five hidden artifacts. Also known as the "Infinite Eye," the Oculus is the prototype after which all-seeing stones and scrying tools are patterned. ## Phantom Knives are a magical weapon, mentioned and explained by Grippa. It is a knife that can pass through solid matter though the blade tip can be made tangible at any moment. It is primarily used by skilled assassins to kill without an entry wound. ## Phoenix-Feathered Arrows are highly magical and have the ability to kill the Eternals. Phoenix Feathers are among the only things that can slay the Eternals, the other two being a Unicorn's Horn and Dragon Breath. ## The Platinum Glove has the power to turn anyone and almost anything into platinum. \page

## Potions are magical substances that are capable of several things, such as making you feel different emotions, shrinking or enlarging you, or keeping you energized. The most powerful Potions are made from the by-product of magical creatures, such as Milch Cows, who in particular is a potion master's dream because nearly every part of the animal- milk, blood, dung, saliva, tears, and sweat- has different magical properties. Magical ingredients could come from sources as diverse as Fairies, Wizards, Dragons, and Giant Walruses. Because these items are often difficult and dangerous to procure, the lives of many Potion Masters are cut short in their quest for ingredients. There are Potions that encourage love, bravery, good cheer, and a host of other emotions. Potions can also cure illness, increase energy and alertness, awaken lost memories, and augment skills like speaking different languages, picking locks, venturing under water, and climbing mountains. The Potions that enhance negative emotions such as fear, anger, embarrassment, and sorrow are strong but less addictive than those that enhance positive emotions such as courage, calm, confidence, and joy. Potions can throw off the natural balance of emotions if overused, and they become less potent over time, so it is important they be mixed and administered only be an expert. ## The Precious Figurines are a set of five figurines made from precious stones, originally kept inside the Dragon Temple at Wyrmroost. They were extracted by the Knights of the Dawn alongside the key to the Translocator and brought to Thronis the sky giant. - The Onyx Tower was found inside of the dragon temple at Wyrmroost, the onyx figurine becomes a large tower when placed on solid ground. - The Agate Leviathan was found in the Dragon Temple treasure room at Wyrmroost. It becomes a colossal leviathan when placed in the sea, if the activation spell is spoken. - The Jade Chimera was found inside of the Dragon Temple at Wyrmroost, the jade Figurine can become a Chimera that is perfectly obedient. - The Red dragon chased Seth and the griffins through the skies over Wyrmroost and was killed by the Sky Giant Thronis and his arrow. - The White Marble Snow Giant was found inside of the dragon temple at Wyrmroost, the white marble figurine becomes a snow giant when buried in snow. ## The Prism of Reflections is a magical item that allows a creature to split into four exact duplicates of themselves, for a total of five, then splitting up another time for a total of twenty-five copies. The duplicates are only illusions, but are strong enough that if you touched them, you would actually feel something, and it also replicates any item held by the user. ## The Proudhorn makes a long, low note when an unexpected Dragon approaches Blackwell Keep, the hollow sound gradually growing deeper before fading. The Proudhorn sounded when Raxtus came to Blackwell Keep with the invitation to the Feast of Welcome. ## Quiet Boxes are a simple and elegant, strange and glossy black cabinet with gold trim is a miniature prison for one. The only way to release a captive from its velvety purple interior is to put another prisoner inside. It is said that the quiet box causes its prisoners to lose their grip on reality. Those placed inside can neither see, hear, nor smell anything. after a prolonged imprisonment, a captive feels unnaturally relaxed, eventually loses all sensation, and is left unable to think clearly when released. ## The Rain stick is a magical staff with rattles can be shaken to conjure up stormy weather, including rain, hail, lightning, and wind. ## The Ring of Constraint is an incarceration and is as powerful as a Quiet Box. ## The Sack of Gales is a magical item kept by Grippa at Blackwell Keep. It is a literal bag of wind that can unleash a mighty wind by loosening the drawstring, useful against dragons in flight. When full, a fierce gale can be unleashed for a full minute. The time to refill the sack varies, as it is remotely fed by wind collectors around the globe. Under ideal conditions, the bag can refill in hours, or it can also take days. The bag is magically stabilized, otherwise the holder would blow around like an untied balloon. ## The Sands of Sanctity is one of the five hidden artifacts in the Fablehaven series. It was the first artifact revealed in the series, and the third or fourth (after the Font of Immortality, the Chronometer, and possibly the Oculus) to have been successfully extracted from its vault. It heals all physical ailments, but not mental. The pot itself is fairly small, but the sand contained inside comes in an unlimited supply; thus, it could be used to fix anything from small cuts to large life-threatening gashes without running out. ## Shrinking Potions are useful when the need for stealth is paramount, this potion allows the user to become eight times shorter that his or her normal hight. The transformation is almost instantaneous and causes an intense tingling sensation to being at the fingers and toes before traveling throughout the whole body. The effect lasts for about thirty minutes, but varies depending on potency. It is important to note that this potion does not always shrink clothes, so be prepared for that beforehand. \page

## The Silver Glove has the power to turn anyone and almost anything into silver. ## The Soul of Grunhold is the first horn that protected the Grunhold, the domain of the Centaurs of Fablehaven. It was hidden at the end of the Tauran Maze, inside the Heart of Grunhold. Like all unicorn horns, the protective spells on it emit such guilt that even the most notorious thief could not successfully steal it. ## The Soundproofed Tents are often colorful, unfurnished, and comes in various sizes and have a steep, curving roof that slopes up to a high central pole. Atop each is a banner. One may enter through a front flap, which can be propped on rods to form a good-sized awning. The tents are closed to the outside with a zipper. The best part of these Fablehaven tents is that their canvas walls are magically soundproof ## The Sunset Pearl is a magic pearl the size of a softball with a silky, variegated sheen, and if exposed to bright luminance, the pearl will reflect numerous little sunsets of its surface. ## The Sword of Tregain is a short magic sword that once belonged to Tregain, a prince of Stormguard Castle. The blade was crafted by master smiths with the help of a Wizard named Egar. It tends to push attention away from itself when it is unsheathed, and the effect increases with the size of the attacking creature. Additionally, in great need and at the price of the blade, with the phrase 'Sharpness begone', the blade will become a bolt of lightning, leaving only the hilt. ## The Totem Wall in British Columbia is an enormous wall of hundreds of different totems that together guard the Alder Door, which holds Vasilis, the sword of Light and Darkness. The sword is guarded by Morisant, one of the Wizards that helped with the building of Zzyzx. It is also protected by a legion of Corporeal Entities controlled by Morisant. The Totem Wall uses some form of Oracle power to gather or collect information like the Singing Sisters. ## Transdimensional Transporters are unique magical gateways. These items are used in pairs for traveling instantly from one place to another. Each pair of objects shares physical space. Both portals are separate manifestations of the same object, so the contents therein inhabit two spaces simultaneously. To use, the rider enters one portal, says the destination if necessary, and can then be assisted out of the other end. Without outside assistance, the occupant can only exit the portal he or she initially entered. ## Truth Chains are magical collars that can strangle a liar to death. It is never called this but rather called a magic or golden lasso. ## Vasilis is one of the most fabled of the six great swords from a past age of wonder, even with poems and songs about it. It is also known as the Sword of Light and Darkness and was located behind the Totem Wall in British Columbia, Canada and heavily shielded. The sword feels like an extension of the body instead of a weapon in the hand. When not in use, the blade was black and surrounded by a corona of bright white light. Vasilis is extremely powerful and magnified emotions. It also gave heightened abilities, such as greater strength and awareness and faster running. It can only be given voluntarily, and if the wielder died, only a friend could claim it. Its great power could corrupt the wielder's heart. It almost had a mind of its own, tugging the wielder towards his or her enemy and rejoicing in slaughter. ## The Vial of Horrors can only work once, but when it is unstopped, every being present will see some of their worst fears come to pass, including the one who opened it. The effect is all an illusion but incredibly vivid, and only lasts a few minutes. But that might allow the user time to make an escape if they keep their wits. ## White Mesh is a magical fabric that is eight feet in diameter and is used to catch elusive creatures like the Drumant, a tarantula-like arachnid that is virtually impossible to snag because it simply vanishes into thin air. When thrown over such a creature, the fabric reveals a lump and entangles the would-be escapee in the fabric. ## The Wizenstone is among the most powerful magical objects in the entire world, known to very few. It has the power to undo magic. It could erase the boundaries of a magical preserve, disenchant a magical item, or even strip a magical being of their powers, including Wizards and Dragons, turning the latter into normal human beings. \page

# The Inverted Tower Dungeon - a structure that serves as a vault for the hidden artifact at Fablehaven. Located in the Revenant's Grove, the entrance to the tower lies in the middle of a clearing where stands a sizable, raised platform of reddish stone flecked with black and gold. At the center of this spacious platform is a round socket surrounded by multiple circular grooves that radiate out like the rings around a bull's eye. To gain access, a key must be inserted into the socket. Once the key is in place, the outer rings drop away one at a time, until a conical stsircase is formed, which leads down to a chamber. - This first chamber of three is not much larger than the widest ring of stone, its floor a single slab of bedrock. There is nothing in the chamber except a pair of doors at opposite ends. One section of the chamber's wall is covered in writings in various languages, the plaques read: >

- Behind both doors are false staircases. Along the wall is an invisible entrance with a genuine set of stair leading to the next chamber, a DC 10 Investigation check is required to locate the door. - The second chamber is large and circular. White stones set in the domed ceiling provide illumination. Deep, golden sand-some of which is quicksand-covers the floor. Monsters are depicted on the walls of this chamber- a blue woman with six arms and the body of a serpent wielding 6 swords, a Minotaur wielding an axe, a huge Cyclops wielding a great mace, a dark man who appears human from the waist up but has the body and legs of a spider wielding a javelin and a whip, an armored snakelike man wearing an elaborate headdress wielding two axes, and a Dwarf in a hooded cloak. Each figure has a key around its neck. On the far side of the room is a door painted on the wall. When touched, the painting becomes an actual door, but it's locked. One of the monsters' keys will open the door, but all of the monsters also become real when touched. Defeat a monster to obtain a key. Once the correct key is used, the door will open to reveal another stairway that descends to the third chamber. - On the floor is a complex mosaic depicting primates engaged in an enormous battle in tall trees. The mosaic's perspective is from the ground looking up and creates a disorienting effect. The instant the chamber is entered, the primates come to life, frenzied beasts intent on killing. Each ape wields a weapon the characters were carrying that was not the weapons contained in the key. Once the apes are defeated, however, a passageway on the opposite side of the room opens to yet another stairway, which in turn opens to the fourth and final room - a glass, black cat guardian sits atop of a pedestal, a key hanging around the feline's neck. This feline has nine lives, each more fearsome than the last. All nine lives must be defeated in order to obtain the artifact. Once the guardian is defeated, the hidden artifact will be revealed. - The second life is just a larger version of the first incarnation. The third had tufted ears and was as large as a lynx with disproportionately large paws and claws. The fourth life was a larger, beefed up version of the lynx, quicker, nastier. For the fifth life the cat resembled a panther, more patient and deadly. The sixth life was as big as a tiger. During the seventh life things start to get weird. It was as tall as a horse with dagger claws and saber-tooth fangs. It also had four writhing serpents growing out of its shoulders. The eighth life was much larger than a horse, had no snakes, but two heads that spit a sludge like acid. For the ninth and final life, the cat was truly a monster. It was enormous, with large wings, and twelve serpents coming out of its back. It had three tails and three heads, that spit acid like the eighth, but lots more.
