# Magma Elementals The Para-Elemental Plane of Magma is even more inhospitable than its sister plane, with not only its heat but unbreathable atmosphere. Portals there are quite numerous on the prime material plane, but a cutter has to be very well prepared before even attempting to enter
one. In the heart of every volcano lies a portal to the plane of magma, but good luck there, and you'll need even better
luck to survive once you get there. The Fountains of Creation have a lot to offer should you be able to best them. A surprisingly beautiful landscape, cities made from obsidian and forges unrivalled by anywhere else in the multiverse, here is where artefacts of legend are born. ### Magma Elemental Lore **Arcana DC 10**: Magma Elementals are the fusion of elemental earth and elemental fire and can embody a wide range of attitudes. Some go with the flow; in fact, the flow is very important to them. Things should be in motion, subject to change, just like the magma that is constantly flowing on their home plane. They hate everything frozen, and are natural enemies to ice elementals. Others are more volatile in nature, embodying the violence that can be produced by an erupting volcano. **Nature DC 10**: Magma elementals are strong like their Earth counterparts, and hot like their Fire counterparts. Their tunnelling leaves behind superheated holes and like the plane they inhabit, their body contains toxic fumes. The power of a magma elemental is based upon its fluidity, and can be greatly diminished when one can chill or smother it. ### Slag-Kin Tactics Slag-kin laze about near the more viscous kind of magma, using hardened crusts, or floating obsidian as lily pads. In combat they rely on their slag spit to hit their target from range, slowing them just enough to keep their distance. When threatened in close quarters, they hop away without provoking opportunity attacks and use their Secrete Toxins at the first opportunity each round. ### Pyroclast Tactics Pyroclasts hover 30 ft. above their targets, flying around to cover as many creatures as possible in their Lava Drip ability, finishing their move directly above one target and using their Lava Bomb on it. While they do have big mouths, they only use their Searing Bite when strictly necessary, as they never willingly go below an elevation of 30 ft. relative to their target. ``` ```

### The Para-Elemental Plane of Magma The Fountains of Creation, as it is most often known outside the plane, is an Inner Plane formed at the intersection of the Planes of Earth and Fire. It is full of oceans of molten rock which spew acid and poison into the air. The air itself is toxic, with no oxygen to speak of, only volcanic fumes, with acid rain occasionally pouring down from the sky the seas of liquid flame, and jagged isles of basalt and obsidian sometimes bubble up from the molten depths dot the horizon, and huge volcanoes dot the landscape. Most notable is the vast range of volcanic mountains that mark the border between the Elemental Plane of Earth and the Elemental Plane of Fire. The Molten Sea is one of the largest features of the plane, covering thousands of miles with constantly shifting lava waves and firestorms. Unlike normal lava, this acts like a true ocean, with magma currents, fiery whirlpools, and unpredictable tidal surges. Ships of fire-resistant obsidian and charred iron can be found here, used by salamanders, fire giants, and other creatures that dare to sail the ever-burning waters. On the shores of this flowing sea rises the Infernal Crucible, A fortress-city of obsidian and iron, ruled by powerful fire giants and salamander warlords. Fire giants, efreeti, and salamander warlords use it as a trade hub and military outpost. \page ### Magma Elemental Tactics In combat, magma elementals are nearly unstoppable juggernauts as they possess the stalwart endurance of an earth elemental and the explosive power of a fire elemental. Despite their rather bulky appearance, magma elementals are surprisingly agile thanks to their ability to glide through solid stone striking their enemies from below. In combat, they will burrow underneath their targets and let them drop into the tunnel before dropping a magma wave, then engage their opponents in melee combat. ### Incandescent Oozer Lore **Arcana DC 15**: Born from the lava of the Molten Sea,
Incandescent Oozers are more fluid than other
magma elementals, with no crust hardening on
their bodies. They are able to flow much more
freely than their other counterparts, oozing over
and around their targets.
**Arcana DC 15**: The oozers body is so hot and
sticky that it can cause weapons that strike it to
burn red hot, testing the mettle of those who wield them. ### Incandescent Oozer Tactics Incandescent Oozers stalk their prey from underground, creating a network of tunnels and bursting up underneath a target from below ground, using their Erupting Surge.
They then Lava Whip a target and start to drag it with
them using its regular movement, forcing any allies to
pursue the oozer through its Magma Tubes, trying to
lose enemies in its tunnels. On the following turn, it uses its Pyroclastic Flow to get even further ahead of its enemies while still dragging its target with it. In the event that didn't manage to grapple a target, it will try again on its turn and t hen use Pyroclastic Flow to burrow underground. ### Cinderslime Slug Lore **Arcana DC 10**: Cinderslime Slugs are notorious for their slow, laborious movement and their tell tale molten trails. Like their common counterparts, the Cinderslimes can stick to walls and ceilings. These slugs are so big and ravenous that they swallow smaller prey whole, but they aren't defenceless against ranged or even flying targets, it can shoot jets of lava that can knock targets out of the sky and allow the slugs to catch up with them. They are found alone but can roam in groups of three. ``` ```

### Cinderslime Slug Tactics The Cinderslime Slug is forced to take its time getting to its target, and thus it makes copious use of its Lava Jet to both soften up its targets and to slow them down, allowing it to catch up. It prioritises flying targets, causing them to fall out of the sky on a failed save. If it restrains a creature with its Lava Jet and is not in melee range, it switches to a non-restrained target. When it enters melee range, it uses its Combust, followed by a Lava Jet and finally its Lava Maw. If it still grapples a target with a Lava Maw on the next turn, it will use it again and attempt to swallow the creature whole and then use Lava Jet on other targets if successful. It will use defensive cooling if it increases its AC by at least 5. ### Meteor Lore **Arcana DC 15**: Fast and furious, meteors are known for their high aerial speed and the craters they leave on impact. It is said if you look up into the sky you can tell the difference between a natural meteor and an elemental meteor zipping across the sky because a natural meteor comes and goes whereas the elemental version can turn in place. Cold damage is said to stop them in their place.
**Arcana DC 20**: Meteors are natural explorers. It is not uncommon for meteors to be found in the depths of space, whether that be from leaving a portal found in the material world, or from portals that open on stars. In fact, most meteors that reach prime material worlds do so from leaving portals generated on the surface of stars. In space, meteors are capable of constant acceleration, letting them reach incredible speeds. They are one of the few other elementals comfortable being in the Quasi-Elemental Plane of Vacuum if they can get there.

The save DC is 16. > > > > > Meteors can be found alone but they also like to travel in groups of four, known as Meteor Swarms ### Meteor Tactics Meteors like to start combat far away from their target(s), anywhere from 210 ft. to 500 ft. away and letting gravity take hold, taking advantage of falling up to 500 ft. per round, activating their Meteoric Impact upon landing and then using its Molten Flare twice. On its following turn, it will use Superheated Slam on all targets nearby it and then Lava Jet if it has any attacks left, and fly directly upwards. If its quench has been activated, it instead turns all of its attacks on the creature that caused it. Once it has flown upwards, it keeps going until it is 210 ft. high and then let gravity take its course again. If it is in combat with flying creatures, it will use its Molten Flare on a target before using its Superheated Slam.

They are massive creatures of molten rock and they hit hard and fast. They are extraordinarily resilient and react violently to damage inflicted upon them. Non-damaging spells seem to be shrugged off and cause just as violent a reaction. It is said by those that have managed to survive such a monstrosity that the best way to deal with them is to hit them just as hard and fast as they can hit you. ### Volcanic Ravager Tactics On its turn, the Ravagers tactics are straightforward. Attack foes in melee range with its Ultra-Plinian Blow, focusing on weaker foes first, or using Lob Molten Rock at targets that are out of range. During an opponent's turn is when the ravager can be most active. Anything that forces a save can trigger its Implacable trait, and every trigger of Implacable allows it to use its Violent Retaliation Trait. If subject to an effect that deals half damage on a saving throw and using Implacable would prevent more than 25 damage, it will do that and trigger an effect. If the creature damaging it is a heavy hitting melee combatant, it will use Smoldering Backhand to launch it away, otherwise it will use Seismic Shockwave to draw as many creatures as possible towards it and keep them in range of its other retaliations. \page

**Arcana DC 20**: The turtle does have one weakness, however. If one could somehow douse it with enough water, or chill it sufficiently, one could temporarily silence one, or more, of the craters. ### Volcano Turtle Tactics The Volcano Turtle starts combat by using its Toxic Fumes action to blind all in its area and give itself advantage on its attacks. If it has a recharge volcanic action available, it will use it with its legendary action, otherwise it will otherwise use its Tighten Grip every turn it can if it's grappling a target. During the next turn, if it can get four targets with its Volcanic Lightning, then it will use that, followed by Volcanic Thunderclap on its next turn, or vice versa if not. It will use its volcanic actions as appropriate if they recharge, otherwise it will use its Pyroclastic Flow or Molten Boulder, whichever will be more advantageous, prioritising flying enemies with its Molten Boulder.
