# Chocobo Caretaking 101
Dear customer, we thank you for your purchase of your very own Chocobo! These nifty little birds are man's greatest companion and will love you for all its life. In here you'll find a few guidelines and tips for properly raising your very own Chocobo.

### Life's Companion
A Chocobo is ment to accompany its partner and owner for its entire life. As such it is your responsibility to keep it safe and well fed at all times.

**Remember This! **This isn't a one-and-done riding horse you've just purchased. A mistreated Chocobo **WILL** revolt against its owner.

### Growth through experience
As you travel with your Chocobo it will grow alongside you. Be careful not to let this fluffy creature overtake you in reputation!

Any time you gain a level, so does your Chocobo. You increase its Maximum Health Points as you would for yourself. A Chocobo's Proficiency Bonus scales as if it were a player character.

Additionally, at 4th,8th and 10th level your Chocobo is granted an Ability Score Increase, which can be used to either assign a +1 bonus to any Stat twice.

At 10th level they also gain the benefits of the **Tough** Feat and stop gaining levels.

### Beyond the Barding
Barding an expensive endeavor to undertake; nevertheless it is the most important aspect of keeping your Chocobo safe.

Chocobo's are proficient with all Armor types and putting on or taking off Barding from a Chocobo requires a period of one hour.

Chocobo's are not proficient with any type of equipment beyond Armor. It is said, however, that equipping them with various forms of metal around the beak and feet will make their attacks more lethal.

Beak and Feet platings are a commodity as most people will not take their Chocobo directly into battle. Nevertheless it isn't the most intricate of craftsmanships and could problaly be commisioned by most blacksmiths.

When a Chocobo makes a **Peck** or **Stomp** attack with plating applied to its beak or feet, you can reroll any 1's made during the Damage Roll.

### Downtime Caretaking
Chocobos are some of the biggest birds you'll find. As such they require quite a bit of food to be kept happy at all times.

A Chocobo consumes **1d4** gold worth of food a day without any extensive travel or combat taking place. Add **1 gold** to this total for every combat encounter the Chocobo participated in.

Fat Chocobo are the exception to this rule; they consume **4d4** gold worth of food a day, increasing by **5 gold** for every combat encounter it participates in.

Additionally Chocobo require 8 continuous hours of sleep each day. Failing to do so will impose 1 point of Exhaustion upon the Chocobo.

>##### FFXIV Race and Cass Compendium
> This additional system for Chocobo raising works best in combination with [u/SilentSoren's FFXIV Compendium](https://www.reddit.com/r/FFXIVxDnD/new/)
>
> A few general notes about the system:
> * All variations of Chocobo were created using either the **Riding Horse** or **Warhorse** statblock.
> * As per DMG armor cost is multiplied by 4 for any mount, and weighs twice as much.
> * As to not make **Black Chocobos** the obviously superior choice in breed it only gains 15ft of flight speed.
> * All forms of Chocobo can only carry one person at a time. When carrying more than one person at once a Chocobo's speed is halved.
> * As an optional rule DMs can decide that Chocobos get to make Death Saving Throws.
> * It is generally assumed that any purchased Chocobo from a stall will have no significant experience, being a 1st level beast.
