 # Ratfolk
T*he guard stood over the corpses of the rest of his scouting party, shielded from view by linen sheets, as the chirurgeon gingerly removed crude and gnarled crossbow bolts from his back and his commanding officer pressed for details on the attack. "Strange noises were reported coming from the sewer," he wimpered, "and we thought it was just a few scurrying rats, so we went to inspect it to calm the citizens. We made it in about fifty feet when those... **things** attacked us. We didn't hear them coming, and by the time we realized we were under fire, Naivara was already dead." His eyes drifted to the veiled corpse of an elf woman, a veritable pincushion of crossbow bolts. "I had taken up the rear so I made it out alive, but Ander and Shautha weren't nearly as lucky... o-obviously..." He could barely bring himself to look at the corpses of his other party members, but his own guilt commanded him to witness their sacrifice. "They were rats alright... but I've never seen a rat take up the bow, or curse at me for tresspassing."*

Fetid sewers, dark alleyways, and long-forgotten dank basements may all be the nesting places of pests, but they may also be the metropolitan hearts of ratfolk societies. When seen as nothing more than vermin by the humanoid races which built these cities, ratfolk do whatever they must in the name of survival.

### Resourceful Vagabonds
There is scant known of the ratfolk, and this is not due to their natural elusivity. Society looks down on these people, with the sight of a ratfolk eliciting the same reaction to seeing a monster or common pest. As a result, they are forced to live below ground, off the dregs of society. In spite of this, ratfolk are able to perservere in the face of adversity, feeding off of food scraps and drinking filthy rain water that accumulates in gutters. Their overwhelming desire to survive has taught them to become sharp, quick, and cunning; a necessity when the town guards might kill you on sight.

Ratfolk resemble the rodents for which they are named, from their pointed snouts, to their twitchy ears, all the way down to their fuzzy pink tails. Their fur comes in as many varieties as rats possess, from any solid hue or mottled combinations of blacks, whites, browns, grays, and even red or blond. Their full height is no more than four feet, but their hunched postures give the impression of a smaller, less imposing creature. Witnesses have compared them in appearance to kobolds, others likening them to little gnolls. Unlike these creatures, ratfolk have a propensity to wear clothing, typically the discarded remnants of shirts, pants, or coats thrown away or forgotten.

### Editing and Sharing
When you create your own homebrew you will be given a *edit url* and a *share url*. Any changes you make will be automatically saved to the database within a few seconds. Anyone with the edit url will be able to make edits to your homebrew. So be careful about who you share it with.

Anyone with the *share url* will be able to access a read-only version of your homebrew.

## Big things coming in v3.0.0
With the next major release of Homebrewery, v3.0.0, this tool *will no longer support raw HTML input for brew code*. All brews made previous to the release of v3.0.0 will still render normally.

### Not quite Markdown
Although the Homebrewery uses Markdown, to get all the styling features from the PHB, we had to get a little creative. Some base HTML elements are not used as expected and I've had to include a few new keywords.

___
* **Horizontal Rules** are generally used to *modify* existing elements into a different style. For example, a horizontal rule before a blockquote will give it the style of a Monster Stat Block instead of a note.
* **New Pages** are controlled by the author. It's impossible for the site to detect when the end of a page is reached, so indicate you'd like to start a new page, use the new page snippet to get the syntax.
* **Code Blocks** are used only to indicate column breaks. Since they don't allow for styling within them, they weren't that useful to use.
* **HTML** can be used to get *just* the right look for your homebrew. I've included some examples in the snippet icons above the editor.

### Images
Images must be hosted online somewhere, like imgur. You use the address to that image to reference it in your brew. Images can be included 'inline' with the text using Markdown-style images. However for background images more control is needed.

Background images should be included as HTML-style img tags. Using inline CSS you can precisely position your image where you'd like it to be. I have added both a inflow image snippet and a background image snippet to give you exmaples of how to do it.

### Crediting Me
If you'd like to credit The Homebrewery in your brew, I'd be flattered! Just reference that you made it with The Homebrewery.
