When Ezmerelda was a little girl, her family kidnapped van Richten's teenage son, Erasmus, and delivered him into the clutches of a vampire. Even today, years later, she can still hear Erasmus's pleas for mercy. That event haunted her childhood.Van Richten tracked down Ezmerelda's family soon after the kidnapping, but not before the Vistani had sold the boy. Though van Richten could have done them harm, he instead interrogated Ezmerelda's mother and father on the whereabouts of his missing son. Satisfied with their answers, he spared their lives before departing with the information they had given him. Ezmerelda witnessed van Richten's act of mercy and was deeply moved by it.

At the age of fifteen, Ezmerelda, still troubled by what her family had done to van Richten, ran away from home. After many harrowing adventures, she tracked down van Richten two years later. Thinking she was a Vistana assassin, he put a sword to her throat and threatened to spill her blood. Ezmerelda convinced him that she genuinely wanted to help him find his missing son, whereupon van Richten told her the saddest of tales. He had found his son, who had been transformed into a vampire spawn. When Erasmus pleaded to his father for salvation, van Richten granted his request by ending his existence.

Ezmerelda remained by van Richten's side for two years, helping him track down and slay many creatures of the night. But because van Richten could never bring himself to fully trust a Vistana, he kept secrets from her. The two vampire hunters got on each other's nerves, and their arguments became more frequent. At last, Ezmerelda suggested that they part company with some shred of their friendship still intact, and van Richten agreed.

Since bidding farewell to van Richten, Ezmerelda has amassed a sizable personal fortune, some of which she used to buy a wagon to carry her vampire-slaying paraphernalia. On one of her less successful adventures, a werewolf bit off her right leg below the knee, and although she avoided being afflicted with lycanthropy, Ezmerelda was sidelined for months. She commissioned a master artisan to craft a prosthetic lower leg and foot. After several tries, he delivered a prosthesis that restored her mobility. She has since adapted well to the false appendage and takes care to hide it from view.

While in the company of a Vistani caravan, Ezmerelda heard a rumor that Rudolph van Richten had gone to Barovia to slay the most powerful vampire of them all. She decided that he might need help and traveled for months to reach Strahd's domain. She rode her wagon to Vallaki and learned about an old tower that seemed the sort of place van Richten would use as a base. When she arrived there, she found some of van Richten's belongings, but of the vampire hunter there was no sign. Although she is anxious to learn the whereabouts of her mentor, she is also eager to earn his trust and respect. To that end, she has been poring over van Richten's research and learning about Strahd and Castle Ravenloft, with every intention of dispatching the vampire herself.

The party then told her of all they had found out so far and she agreed to fight along side them to defeat Strahd. She suggested they go the town of Kresk after they told her of the old Vistani lady's card reading. She knows the lake they seek is in Krezk.

First they needed to gather the rest of their group at the farmhouse.
Once back at the farmhouse, the rest of the group was brought up to date on events. Flex, Flynn, Ivar and Ezmerelda then headed west toward Krezk. When they exited the farmhouse, they were approached by a large, black, shadowy dog with a envelope in it's mouth. The beast dropped the envelope in front of the party and backed up into the shadows only to vanish. The note in the envelope proved to be and invitation to dine at the castle from Strahd himself. Ezmerelda said they would not be wise to accept the offer at this time as they were not prepared for the horrors of the castle. The party agreed.

A few hours later, as they slowly made their way on the west road in the failing light, strange ghostly warriors drifted toward them out of the growing fog. Suddenly the ghosts attacked and the battle was on. Flynn became possesed by the spirits and began launching arrows into Ivar. Soon Ivar was also possessed and the battle became more intense. Ezmerelda and Flex, fighting back to back, dispatched a few of the ghosts and Ezmerelda managed to get a protective circle around the two. 

Ivar, being forced into the circle was then freed from the possession and Flynn was freed when he was knocked unconscious. Soon the ghosts were destroyed and the party made the gates of Krezk with no further incident. 

### Krezk
The air grew colder as they approached the walled settlement. Two square towers with peaked roofs flanked a stone archway into which is set a pair of twelve-foot-tall, ironbound wooden doors. Carved into the arch above the doors was a name: Krezk. The walls that extended from the gatehouse were twenty feet high. Atop the parapet they seen four figures wearing fur hats and clutching spears. They watched nervously.

Flex stepped forward and requested permission to enter. A guard denied entry but stated he would get the burgomaster and they could talk to him. 

They party waited for what seemed like hours before a stately looking man emerged atop the wall.

The man said he was Burgomaster Dmitri Krezkov and seemed he was distraught over something. Dimitri refused to let them in given his duty to protect his village but offered them sanctuary provided they do him a favor. His town has been without wine for some days and if the party were to bring a wagon load of wine from the Wizard of Wines winery they would be allowed entry. The party agreed and headed off to the winery in the south.

### The Winery
After a half mile, the road become a muddy trail that meandered through the woods, descending gradually until the trees parted, revealing a mist-shrouded meadow. The trail split. One branch headed west into the valley, and the other led south into dark woods. A wooden signpost at the intersection pointed west and read, "Vineyard."

Heading toward the vineyard, a light drizzle began to fall. Unpainted fences blindly followed the trail, which skirted north of a sprawling vineyard before bending south toward a stately building. The fog took on ghostly forms as it swirled between the neatly tended rows of grapevines. Here and there, they seen rope-handled half-barrels used for hauling grapes. North of the trail was a large stand of trees. A man wearing a dark cloak and cowl stood at the edge of the trees, beckoning them.

They party approached the man who was old and bent with age and was hiding in the woods with the remnants of his family. He said his name was Davian Mertikov and he was the owner of the winery. He tells them that evil druids and blights have been attacking the vineyard and have forced the family out, effectively stopping production. Davian's son Adrian confirmed that there are three barrels of wine in the loading dock, plus another three barrels and several wine bottles in the cellar. There is more wine still fermenting.

The party then agreed to drive off the evil druids and blights much to the relief of the Martikov family. They then prepared for battle and headed down to the main area of the vineyard.
