# The Heartless

The Heartless are beings that are born when a persons heart is completely swallowed by darkness. The stronger the heart, the more powerful the heartless. They are always searching for more hearts to consume to fill the void within them. While most Heartless are in fact manifest hearts, they behave entirely devoid of emotion, and were thus named "Heartless". Some Heartless are powerful enough to possess living organisms, corrupting their heart with the darkness that lies within all hearts and turning them into maniacal, evil shells of their former selves. Heartelss will either manifest themselves where they originally died or in the void between worlds. Being born from darkness, they are mindless and act on instinct. Their only goal is stealing more hearts to turn into Heartless. But what they desire above all are the hearts of worlds, and thus they enter worlds in search of the way into their hearts.

At the same time, Heartless seek out the users of the Keyblade, since the Keyblade holds the power to lock and unlock hearts. If a Heartless is slain by a Keyblade, it will reunite with the body and soul it left behind, if it isn't currently a Nobody. In order to stop the users of the Keyblades, the Heartless use the Keyblade itself as a homing beacon, but ultimately desire to take the heart that commands it. Because of this, Keyblade wielders are under constant attack.

The Heartless, being mindless, usually have no master to direct their actions and instead act on the instinct to consume more hearts. However, there are some higher beings who can command them. Heartless will obey those with an affinity for darkness and a strong will. If many people attempt to control them, the Heartless will side with whomever is most powerful. However, those with hearts endanger themselves, as the Heartless are attracted to their hearts and if they show weakness, the Heartless will not hesitate to consume their hearts.

The primary weapon for destroying the Heartless is the Keyblade, as it is both specially suited for manipulating the bonds between heart, body, and soul which create Heartless, and it is the only object able to thwart the Heartless in their goal of devouring a world's heart. However, in the absence of the Keyblade there are several other options. Magic is effective against the Heartless, as are magical weapons. In either situation, invading Heartless can be disorganized by defeating the major Heartless which leads them, or the dark heart which attracted them to that world. While this does not by any means purge the world of its Heartless, it gives no small respite from their threat. Emblem Heartless that are destroyed by a Keyblade release the heart within them, sending it to the shard of the realm of light where it waits for its body and soul to be freed, so that the person it once was can be woken once again.

```
```
<div class='descriptive'>
##### Heartless come in two different forms "Pureblood" and "Emblem".

### Pureblood
Pureblood Heartless are natural Heartless, born from the darkness in people's hearts. They are more common in places that are close to or saturated in darkness. Upon their destruction, if a keyblade has not been used, they simply disappear in puffs of darkness, without a heart leaving its body. While Purebloods have less variety, they are far more numerous in quantity and often attack in swarms.

### Emblem
Emblem Heartless were originally created from a machine designed to reproduce the process of a heart being consumed by darkness. Once that machine is activated, most stolen hearts become Emblems, provided they contain darkness. They are more common than purebloods and usually mimic the shape of creatures or objects in the environment they happen to inhabit.

## Universal Special Qualities

***Dark Rejuvination.*** When a Heartless is destroyed by non- radiant damage it reforms in the realm of darkness 1d4 days later. When a heartless is destroyed by radiant damage it does not reform. If it is an Emblem Heartless then it also releases all captured hearts.

***Darkvision Infinite.***
Heartless have no trouble seeing even in complete or magical darkness.

***Favored Enemy (Nobody).***
Heartless have advantage bonus on Deception, Intimidation, Perception, Persuasion, and survival checks when using these skills against Nobodies. Likewise, they get a +2 bonus on weapon damage rolls against Nobodies.

***Hearts To Heartless.*** When a heartless lowers a creature's HP to zero using necrotic damage as the last hit then that creature becomes a Heartless immediately. The DM decides the form of the Heartless. The size of the creature typically indicates the size of the Heartless.

***Natural Equipment (Ex).***
All weapons and armor that the base creature had when it became a heartless are considered to be natural weapons.

***Shadow Door (Ex)***
At will, as a full round action, a Heartless can travel between shadows, just as a Shadow Dancer may, at a maximum range of 10ft per HD.

# Shadow
The Shadow is a Pureblood Heartless and the most basic form of heartless. Although they are one of the weaker types of Heartless, they are still a threat when in large numbers. It has a vaguely humanoid body structure and a round, spherical head with circular, glowing yellow eyes. It also has two long, twisted antennae sprouting out of the top of its head. Each of its hands has three clawed fingers, and its feet are large and lack any discernible digits. With the exception of its eyes, this Heartless's body is completely black.

# Neoshadow
A Neoshadow has a more humanoid body structure than a normal Shadow, but shares the same pitch black skin and spherical, glowing yellow eyes. Its crooked antennae are quite long and fall back behind the Heartless. It seems to be rather muscular, and its hands are very large, each one sporting five clawed fingers. Its feet, like those of a normal Shadow, are long and lack digits, but a Neoshadow's feet more resemble boots. Its body is also lined by several faint, blue veins of color.

# Dark Hide
The Dark Hide is a massive creature that resembles the Dark Thorn. It has a dark purple and black body with dark magenta spikes running down its back, as well as a "mane" of dark magenta tentacles around its head. Its tail has a dark magenta tip, and the Heartless sports four purple claws on each of its four legs. The most distinctive feature of the Dark Hide is its yellow eyes, which occasionally glow red. The Heartless also sports a jagged mouth, blue markings on its face and body, and chains around its forelegs. Its body is rather long and thin and, despite its massive size, the Heartless moves quite quickly.
The Heartless is able to cloak itself in darkness, obscuring all of its features, save for its eyes, which glow bright red. It seems to be able to use its eyes to zoom in on the objects it looks at; from its perspective, everything has a very faint red tint. Glowing red veins are present around the sides of the Dark Hide's field of vision. The Heartless frequently creates disorienting after-images of itself as it moves, including red, green, and purple versions of itself.

# Nobodies

Nobodies are created when strong-willed individuals lose their hearts. The bodies that remain give Nobodies their form, while the abandoned souls give them life. People with the strongest wills are able to retain human form when they become Nobodies.
At birth, Nobodies are rejected by both light and darkness. Instead, they are made to walk the realm between and doomed to a state of non-existence.
Nobodies are said to be incapable of experiencing emotion. While they tend to retain the memories they made as humans, the feelings they display are merely an act. Memories alone enable Nobodies to correctly respond to the situations in which they find themselves. Despite this, Nobodies are able to think for themselves and are organized, whereas the Heartless are more instinctual enemies.

# Universal Traits

### Emotionless (Ex):
Nobodies are immune to fear and charm effects, including mood changes from Diplomacy or Wild Empathy.
### Favored Enemy (Heartless):
Nobodies gain a +2 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival checks when using these skills against Heartless. Likewise, they get a +2 bonus on weapon damage rolls against Heartless.
### Memories (Ex):
A Nobody has all the memories from it's previous life, and can use those to fake emotion, granting it a +10 to bluff checks when faking emotions.
### Shadow Door (Su):
Once per day, a Nobody can travel between shadows, just as a Shadow Dancer may, at a maximum range of 5ft per HD.
### Summon Ally (Su):
Once per day, a Nobody can summon another Nobody whose HD is half that of the casters, as the spell Summon Monster.
### Summon Weapon (Su):
As a move action, a Nobody may summon a weapon (or pair of weapons) to their hands. This weapon must be previously selected out of the weapons that the Nobody has or has had since being changed. The chosen weapon(s) may be changed, but the nobody may only select a maximum of two weapons (Ranged weapons and ammunition count as two. Ex: Bow and Arrow, Crossbow and Bolt, Sling and Bullet/Stone, etc.., as do two-handed weapons.), and the instant they're dropped or broken they vanish, but may be summoned again in perfect condition. If weapon is a ranged weapon, the projectile (ex: Dagger, Arrow, etc...) instantly returns to the Nobodies hand(s).

### Alignment: Always neutral
Being entirely devoid of emotions, a nobody can't be good or evil, lawful or chaotic. They simply desire to regain their lost heart.

# Dusk

The Dusk is a low-ranking Nobody. They are one of the very few types of Nobody known to be able to speak. A Dusk has a thin, sinuous body that is capable of dumbfounding feats of flexibility. It has a large, cylindrical head with a flat top that is emblazoned with the Nobody symbol. Its body seems to be covered in a light grey jumpsuit, and its "mouth" is actually a zipper that undoes itself to reveal its actual, grey, sharp-toothed mouth underneath. It appears to be fairly muscular, though its arms and legs are very thin. The sides of its body are lined by a black line, which pulses weakly with light. Its feet and hands are pointed and lack digits, and its hands each sport two black bands around them.

The Dusk's name refers to the period of time when the sun begins to set and twilight begins to set in. This emphasizes how Nobodies are beings of neither Light nor Darkness, but are closer to the Darkness.

# Grandiose Delusion
Some creatures are so stubborn that when they become a nobody, they simply refuse to accept it. The retain most of their old form and powers, and though they are still emotionless they have tricked themselves into believing otherwise.
