# DeathSpinner, the Longsword of Lolth

DeathSpinner is a deceptively simple silvered longsword. Ages ago, as a test of worthiness, Lolth unleashed a terrible Storm of Vengeance that encompassed the whole of the underdark, assaulting the subterrainian landscape with merciless abandon.

Vuz'nolu Orlyarn, an ambitious but tragically male Drow defied Lolth's destruction. Entering the shadowed gale, he battled the elements with skill and forbidden magics. Near death he emerged, cradling a treasure: a spool of mystic silver harvested from the lining of the storm.

Believing this to be the foundation for his own rise to power, Vuz'nolu forged the blade from the storm silver and abyssal steel. Unbeknownst to him, Lolth herself had taken an interest in this heretic, and began to enchant the weapon with her own potent magics.

DeathSpinner was still cooling from its temper when Vuz'nolu was slain by the hand of an assassin. Though Lolth revealed the secret of the sword's existance to her acolytes, no matriarch has ever held the sword for long. Some whisper that any house that posesses the sword can claim rightful dominance over the others, and rule as Lolth's Chosen.

### Deathspinner
*Weapon (Longsword), legendary (requires attunement by a Drow)*

*DeathSpinner* is a silvered longsword, so perfectly balanced and light it seems to dance with a supernatural grace. If you are proficient with a short sword, rapier or longsword, you are proficient with *DeathSpinner*. Unless the wielder is a Drow, he feels a harmless flash of pain whenever he uses it. When it is within 100 feet of a member of Lolth's priesthood the blade sparkles in the eyes of any who have darkvision.

During its creation, Lolth embued the blade with terrible demonic energies with which she allow for those who weild it greater power. If you use *DeathSpinner* to slay a drider, *DeathSpinner* becomes a +1 longsword in your hands after a short or long rest and adds 1d8 poison damage on a critical hit. If you are able to successfully defeat a Drow Elite Warrior and a Drow Mage in a single encounter, *DeathSpinner* becomes a +2 longsword for you and the poison damage increases to 2d8 on a critical, and bestows the *poisoned* condition (save 20 con). If you are able to slay a Priestess of Lolth and a Drow Matriarch, *DeathSpinner* gains the properties of a *Vorpal Sword*, and every strike made with it does an additional d8 in poison damage.

With Lolth's essence thundering through the weapon *DeathSpinner* offers the weilder tremendous power, but the steel is vulnerable to sunlight like many Drow artifacts. If the blade is exposed to natural sunlight for even a moment it loses its magial properties until dusk.
