# The Nightfallen
Originally referred to as **The Nightborn**. *The Nightfallen* are an ancient race of elves cut off from the rest of the world via an ancient arcane barrier, they are unique from other elves as they must continuously take in magical energy to sustain themselves, or risk **withering**. 

These particular elves are exiles from nightborn society, condemned to wither and die over time, some of these outcast elves have been lucky enough to find a source of magic with which to sustain themselves and have begun adventuring in the hopes of finding a more longterm form of arcane sustenance.

### Secretive and Mistrustful
Due to their exile, *The Nightfallen* are very mistrustful of other individuals, especially other elves, however if offerred aid, they will generally accept, due to their need to feed on the arcane. it should be noted, that when conversing with a starved *Nightfallen*, that great care should be taken in the event said *Nightfallen* appears to begin **withering**.

### Ancient Race
Due to their usage of magical energy, the Nightborn, and by extension, *The Nightfallen*, have the ability to live for thousands of years, allowing an individual to build up millenia of knowledge, about subjects, as such it should be known that some of the technology used by *The Nightborn* is incredibly advanced.

### The Withering
The withering is a process that all **starved Nightfallen** go through, should they go without any arcane sustenance within the last 24 hours, they will begin to go into withdrawal, and begin to shake, if they go too long without sustenance they will enter a state considered by both *The Nightborn* and *The Nightfallen* as a fate **worse than death**

### Nightfallen Names
*The Nightborn*, and by extension *The Nightfallen* share many of the naming traits as most elves, with some even having drow names. However some *Nightfallen* choose to go by a different name as their birth one, as they believe themselves to be **fallen from grace**.

>Unlike the their empowered brethen *The Nightborn*. *The Nightfallen* do not have access to much technology due to their banishment, as such much of the knowledge they may have had as a *Nightborn* is largely useless.

>Due to their general mistrust of strangers, *Nightfallen* tend to avoid the other races, they will often only approach others if they are in great need. However this does not apply to adventuring *Nightfallen* who will often approach others if they seem to be in need of help.

### Nightfallen Traits
* **Ability Score Increase.** Your Intellect score increases by 2, and your Dexterity Score increases by 1.
* **Age.** The Nightfallen, provided they have a source of magical energy can potentially live to be 1000 years old. However most die, or become fully *withered* before they reach this age.
* **Alignment.** The Nightfallen tend to be more on the *Chaotic* side of things, likely due to whatever it was that lead to their exile. They also tend to the more *Neutral*, often having neither good nor bad intentions. However that does not necesarrily mean that all Nightfallen are like this.
* **Size.** The Nightfallen tend to be roughly the same height, or slightly taller than most elves, and have similar builds to them, however if under the effects of *withering* they may appear to be quite gaunt in appearence. Your size is Medium.
* **Speed.** Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
* **Arcane Sight.** The Nightfallen have spent Centuries in almost perpetual Night, they have adapted to the near total darkness, and as much of those centuries have been in exsposure to intense magic, it has affected their vision improving their abilities. You can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light (**Superior Darkvision**). you cant discern colour in darkness, only shades of purple. You also gain proficiency in the Perception skill.
* **Trance.** Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

* **Languages.** You can speak, read, and write Elvish, you may also choose one other language that you may have learned in your travels.
* **Sunlight Sensitivity.** Because you have spent so much time in near perpetual darkness you are not very accustomed to brightly lit areas. You have disadvantage on attack rolls and on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight when you, the target of your attack, or whatever you are trying to perceive is in direct sunlight.
* **Drain Magic.** Nightfallen can siphon the magical energy from creatures and objects in order to restore their own energy and stave off the withering effect. As an action one creature within touch range makes a saving throw against you (8 + Int Modifier + Proficiency), on a fail the target lose one of its lowest level spell slots. You may also drain magical energy from objects as well, if you spend 10 minutes meditating with an object of uncommon or higher rarity, you can drain  it of all power.
* **Withering.** If magical energy has not been consumed in the last 24 hours, gain 1 level of *exhaustion*, this effect progresses by 1 level every 48 hours after the initial 24 hours, in the event that level 6 *exhaustion* is reached, the character is effectively dead and a *zombie* of equal level to the character with all its gear is revived in the characters place with all their gear. This *zombie* is immediately hostile to everything around it.
* **Nightfallen Magic.** You know the *Thaumaturgy* Cantrip. Upon reaching 3rd level you can cast the *detect magic* spell once a day. Upon reaching 5th Level you can cast *Magic Missiles* spell once a day. Intellect is your spellcasting ability for these spells
