## Kaern
Though similar to the fauns and satyrs of human folklore, the peaceful Kumadzu-native kaern couldn't be more different in demeanor. In fact, when referred to as a faun or satyr, most kaern take this as an offense, seeing their lustful mythological counterparts as the result of the ancient humans' ignorance regarding other cultures. Like the fauns and satyrs, however, the kaern sport cervoid horns and cloven hooves. Their legs are covered in a light, deer-like fur. Their ears are long and pointed, which gives scholars reason to believe they are also an inspiration of the mythological elven races. The kaern live in tight-knit clans and have a history of banding together in times of conflict. Formerly peaceful in nature, their wise men, priests, and village leaders have resorting to using their influence and power for battle in the two centuries, as the orcish armies to the south have begun to march against them, claiming the entirely of the continent is their 'sacred right'.
### Kaern Traits
___
- **Average Height:** 4'6" - 5'3"
- **Average Weight** 75lbs - 125lbs
- **Ability Scores:** +2 Dexterity, +1 Wisdom
- **Size:** Medium
- **Speed:** 30 feet
- **Languages:** Common, Kaerni
- **Darkvision:** A kaerni's blue, pupiless eyes mimic the skies, giving them an almost heavenly glow in the darkness. This enables you to see in dim light out to 60ft as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern colors in the darness, only shades of grey.
- **Cloven Hooves:** The cloven hooves of a kaern and mountainous homeland make them expert climbers. When climbing terrain, they retain full movement speed.
- **Antler Charge:** As an action, you may rush at an enemy or object within 30 feet. A targeted creature must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC: 8 + STR modifier + Proficiency) or take 1d4 damage + 1 bludgeoning damage per 10 feet you charged. On a successful save, you will miss the target and charge past them until you have moved 30 feet or reach an obstacle. After you use Antler Charge, you may not use it again until you have finished a short or long rest. Antler Charge's damage increases to 2d4+(2/ 10') at 6th level, 3d4+(3/ 10') at 12th level, 4d4+(4/ 10') at 18th, and 5d4+ (5/ 10') at 20th level.
### Orcish Opposition
The kaern have always been at odds with the orcs - from their warmongering dieties to their barbarian culture and aggressive demeanor - which are in stark contrast to the kaern's culture of medicene, tribal ties, and preference for peace. In recent centuries, however, the notion of expansion has risen in the heads of the orcish commanders, making the kaern their natural first targets. Due to this rise in the conflict, the kaern have been forced into a war they want no part of. Many kaern fled their homeland while others stayed to fight. Regardless of their choice, they blame the orcs for their plight.

### Wind Worshippers
Neo'gah, the kaerni goddess of the wind, stands at the center of their culture. Her affinity for the creatures of the wild and the swift winds that sweep across the Kearni Highlands are the inspiration for a culture of quick and efficient hunters who hold a reverence for what nature provides. The wind itself is used as a guide for many of the past kearni leaders, from wise, old medicene men to the stoic, stalwart hunter-chiefs. To curse the wind before a kaern is considered an offense and will bring only ill-will.
### Kaerni Names
The kearni language is made up of a simple vocabulary, combining multiple words for more specific meanings. The names are often shortened versions of these words - describing either the conditions of the birth, or based on the newborn's personality - and are given to the child nineteen days after birth at a Naming Ceremony by the child's maternal grandmother. There is no real variation between male and female names. While the child belongs to its mother's clan, it is named for the father's.
