# The Great Old One: Psion Version
Someone mentioned on r/KibblesTasty a Great Old One patron that had a psionic discipline as a concept for a subclass, so I decided to try my hand at it. The Psion was made by u/KibblesTasty and the original post about the GOOlock was made by u/apexapathy13. This also serves as a revision of the Great Old One, since I really love the concept but in the end it just falls on it face with the features.

### **Expanded Spell List**
The Great Old One lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

##### The Great Old One Expanded Spells
| Spell Level | Spells |
|:----:|:-------------|
| 1st | *dissonant whispers*, *Tasha's hideous laughter* |
| 2nd | *detect thoughts*, *mind spike* |
| 3rd | *delve mind*, *enemies abound* |
| 4th | *dominate beast*, *Evard's black tentacles* |
| 5th | *synaptic static*, *telekinesis* |

### **Awakened Mind**
Starting at 1st level, you gain the Telepathy Discipline; this can be found under the Disciplines list of the Psion class. You do not gain access to the Alternate Effects of this discipline. If your psionic power requires your target to make a saving throw, you use your warlock spell save DC.

When you cast a warlock spell of 1st-level or higher with a warlock spell slot, you gain an amount of psi points equal to the level of the spell you cast. You lose all remaining psi points you may have when you finish a short or long rest.

You can only gain a maximum amount of psi points equal to your warlock level with this feature. Once you do so, you cannot gain psi points again until you finish a short or long rest.

You have a psi limit of 1. This limit increases to 2 psi points at 5th level, 3 psi points at 9th level, 4 psi points at 14th level, and 5 psi points at 17th level.

### **Mirage Horror**
At 6th level, you can use your action to gain the ability to appear as an eldritch beast to those who harm you for 1 minute. During this time, if a creature within 30ft of you causes you to take damage, you can use your reaction and force the creature to make a Wisdom saving throw or be effected by Telepathic Intrusion with the **Terrifying** modifier. On a successful save, they still take the psychic damage.

Once you use this feature, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use it again.

### **Anomalous Mind**
At 10th level, your mind becomes infested with the inner machinations of the Far Realm. When under an effect that forces you to tell the truth against your will, you speak nothing but gibberish. Creatures that try to read your mind against your will also only hear this gibberish.

Additionally, you can use your action and spend 2 psi points to gain immunity to effects that would charm you and psychic damage for 1 minute.

### **Create Thrall**
At 14th level, you gain the ability to infect a humanoid's mind with the alien magic of your patron. You can use your action to touch an incapacitated humanoid. That creature is then charmed by you until a *remove curse* spell of 5th-level or higher, the charmed condition is removed from it, or you use this feature again.

The creature regards you as their closest ally and considers all actions you take to be in their best interest, besides directly or obviously hurting them.

You can communicate telepathically with the charmed creature as long as the two of you are on the same plane of existence.

## Eldritch Invocations
The following are new options granted to warlocks for the Eldritch Invocations feature. Prerequisites that have a level requirement refer to your level in the warlock class.

### **Anomaly Jump**
You discover the ability to use eldritch power to rip apart rifts in space. When you spend a warlock spell slot, you can use the Phase Rift feature from the Transposition Discipline as a bonus action before the end of your turn. You cannot add any modifiers to Phase Rift when used in this way.

### **Crystalline Familiar**
*Prerequisite: Pact of the Chain feature*
Your familiar has a Psi Crystal on their body, which has the **Courage**, **Cowardice**, **Cruelty** or **Sympathy** (your choice) property and is always considered summoned as long as it is not shattered. You do not gain psi points from shattering the Psi Crystal. When you shatter it, your familiar takes 1 point of psychic damage.

When you take a long rest, the Psi Crystal regenerates and becomes summoned again.

### **Gifted Psionics**
*Prerequisite: 11th level.*
Your patron bestows upon you powerful psionics, allowing you to gain alternative uses for your Mystic Arcanum feature. Choose a 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th level spell from the Psion spell list. Whenever you use your Mystic Arcanum feature, you can instead cast the Psion spell you chose, if the spell you would've casted from Mystic Arcanum is of the same level.

### **Mind Blade**
*Prerequisite: Pact of the Blade feature*
Your weapon becomes comprised of psionic energy. Whenever you hit a creature with your pact weapon, you can deal psychic damage instead of its original damage type.

### **Omen From The Future**
*Prerequisite: 5th level, Pact of the Tome feature*
You can cast *glimpse the future* once without expending a warlock spell slot. Once you do so, you must finish a short or long rest before you can use this feature again.

### **Psionic Invocation**
You gain a Psionic Talent of your choice. You cannot gain a Psionic Talent for which you do not meet the prerequisites, such as Psion class levels or a required Psionic Discipline. You gain 1 psi point, if you did not have psi points already.

You can select this invocation multiple times, choosing a new Psionic Talent each time. You do not gain additional psi points.

## Pact of the Inner Power

This is a new Pact Boon option available to warlocks at 3rd level. There are new invocations for only this Pact Boon.

Your patron does not give you an object for your devotion, but instead an awakening. Your latent psionic powers are manifested by your patron, allowing you to use your mental powers as you please.

When you gain this Pact Boon, you gain a Psionic Discipline of your choice and psi points equal to two-thirds of your warlock level (round down), if you didn't already have psi points (unless they were from the psionic invocation feature). You can use these psi points to power your Psionic Discipline, but you cannot use them for its Alternate Effects. If your psionic power requires your target to make a saving throw, you use your warlock spell save DC.

You regain all expended psi points when you take a short or long rest.

You have a psi limit of 1. This limit increases to 2 psi points at 5th level, 3 psi points at 9th level, 4 psi points at 14th level, and 5 psi points at 17th level.

Below are Eldritch Invocations you can gain if you have this Pact Boon.

### **Eldritch Recentering**
*Prerequisite: 9th level, Pact of Inner Power feature*
When you spend a warlock spell slot, you regain 1 psi point.

### **Psionic Blast**
*Prerequisite: eldritch blast cantrip, Pact of Inner Power feature*
You can choose if your eldritch blast deals force or psychic damage on a successful hit.

Once per turn, if your eldritch blast hits a creature, you can add modifiers to it as if you had used your Psionic Discipline's psionic power on the creature.

### **Psionic Magic**
*Prerequisite: Pact of Inner Power feature*
You discover a way to manipulate magical forces with psionics. You can use the Alternate Effects of your Psionic Discipline, but you must spend an amount of psi points equal to your psi limit whenever you cast a spell with this feature. If you have multiple Psionic Disciplines, you must choose which you gain the Alternate Effects of.

### **Refuge of the Mind**
*Prerequisite: 18th level, Pact of Inner Power feature*
As a reaction to being reduced to 0 hit points, you can put yourself into a psionic stasis. You ignore the damage that would've put you at 0 hit points and become unconscious, but immune to all damage.

You can still see and hear out to 60ft around you, but beyond this radius you are blinded and deafened. While in this state, you can commmunicate telepathically with creatures within 60ft of you and can cast *mage hand* at will, however the spectral hand created by this spell is invisible.

You can remain in this state for 1 hour before becoming fully conscious again and no longer being immune to all damage.

Once you use this feature, you must finish 1d4 long rests before doing so again.

##### Author's Notes
Hey! I'm u/CptnCopyright and I made this thing. I've been toying with attempting a revision of the Great Old One, so when I saw apexapathy's post, I figured I'd try my hand. If you don't know who Kibbles Tasty is, they make great homebrew (see the links I posted at the beginning of the doc) and have made psionics actually fun. I'm playing a Psion 3/Artificer 3, both are Kibbles' versions, and it's been balanced and fun. They have also made the Warlord and Occultist (not released yet), which are both equally good. Going back to the homebrew, I'm a bit worried about Gifted Psionics, since that just gives another spell for the warlock to use for Mystic Arcanum. Psionic Magic is also a point of concern for me, since it gives the warlock more spell slots. However, it might just be me since I'd imagine that the increased psi point usage and generally more useful psionic power modifiers would deter people from spamming fireballs with this feature. Refuge of the Mind is meant to be an invocation capstone, but it's still concerning. Although, the wizard can just cast *invulnerability* whenever he wants, so maybe this isn't so bad after all. Here's how many psi points you get from the Pact of Inner Power per level: 2 psi points at 3rd level, 4 points at 6th, 6 at 9th, 8 at 12th, 10 at 15th and 12 psi points at 18th level. Hopefully this is balanced. Also, here's a GOOlock revision by a more skilled homebrewer: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1T1xY4Vpc9VMglQhgX1QILPdMGbG1Q_XI/view
Oh god no the link.
