# The Pictsies
Pictsies, known to themselves as The Wee Free Men, are a clan of hard-drinking, sheep-stealing, sword-wielding, fey who are as fierce and proud as they are accidentally funny.
They are barely 3ft tall full grown and abnormally strong (one Pictsie can lift a grown man). Their tattoos are so dense as to give the appearance of blue skin, and with hair red like an orange gone nova. Not particularly handsome, they have a face like a hatful of knuckles, and every one of them could win a Worst Broken Nose contest.
Despite being fey, they have no wings, and calling a Pictsie a fairy to their face is the surest way to be fed your own teeth.

## History

The Pictsies are made up of various clans all with a shared taste for battle. While they do not make war in the sense the larger "Bigjob" races do, they get in many a scuffle with other clans, fellow clan members, even their own self so as to not go soft. When they deign to fight larger races, they try to give them a handicap- 1 Pictsie to a dozen Bigjobs, to make it fair.

Pictsies consider the realm of Discworld to be their afterlife; it is a placed filled with many fine warriors and beasties to fight, and plenty to steal. In their eyes, what else could such a place be but their final reward after a life well lived? When they die on Discworld, they believe themselves to be reincarnated, so that they may fight their way back into Heaven all over again.

Whether this is true or not is yet to be seen - a Pictsie character in other campaigns may also believe they are in their Heaven or Valhalla after a glorious end in battle, or perhaps they think themselves alive again and are working to make their way back in.

## Discworld's Most Wanted

In the towns of Discworld, there are few places who know the troubles brought by the Pictsies, and those that don't should count themselves lucky being able to believe them a fairy tale.

The towns that do, however, know exactly the sort of truble the Wee Free Men can get up to. Unlike the Fey encountered in children's stories, the Pictsies are *Not* Helpful. They never do chores. They don't drink milk. What they do is fight, drink to the point of stumbling and then some, and then steal whatever isn't nailed down, before stealing what is. In fact, many Pictsies have made claims they can break into and out of *anywhere* including other planes, but admit to having trouble finding their way out of a good bar.

However, the Wee Free Men are not truly heartless; they find no fun in fighting the weak, nor stealing from those with nothing to their name but a job and a shack to live in.

Traditional Pictsie weapons are made of thunderbolt iron, which is said to glow blue in the presence of lawyers- the natural enemy of the Pictsies. But other than lawyers and a superstitious fear of their names being writ down, they do not scare easy.

## Naming

The Pictsie clans don't have much in the way of names, going more by comparitive descriptors such as Big Angus, One-Eyed Archie, or Not-as-big-as-Medium-Sized-Jock-but-bigger-than-Wee-Jock Jock for male members of the clan.

Female names are comparitively much shorter, due to female Pictsies being less common - a good thing, as each clan can only be led by the Kelda who acts as their leader. A daughter is always cause for celebration, but one day she will eventually leave the burrow to find another clan in need of a Kelda. Female names tend to be Gaelic inspired, such as Fion, Aggie, and Jeannie.

Clan names are generally named after a famous ancestor, such as the Nac Mac Feegle clan, or the area nearby their clan burrow, like the Three Peaks or Windy River clans.
