## Tabaxi
The Tabaxi are a race of humanoid jaguars who, like the Coatzitzintin, were formerly human. Most have typical jaguar coloring, but many are dark gray or black, and a few appear marbled or even white.

### Lore
The tabaxi worship Tezcatlipoca (especially Tepeyollotl, the Mountainheart, aspect) as the Coatzitzintin worship Quetzalcoatl. They have a deep resentment towards the Coatzitzintin for the slights Quetzalcoatl has inflicted on Tezcatlipoca. Like the Coatzitzintin, they were once humans. After Quetzalcoatl blessed his followers and the religion split, Tezcatlipoca appeared and changed his as well. Unlike the Coatzitzintin, one cannot become a Tabaxi through worship. One must be born Tabaxi (though it is worth noting devoted human followers of Tezcatlipoca who live with and mate with Tabaxi will have Tabaxi children).

### Favored Habitat
Tabaxi favor rainforest, though any deeply forested area will do. They like warm and wet climates. Tabaxi farm livestock, but mainly import food when they need it in large quantities. They have several large cities in Tehuantepec, their home nation, but like to roam all over Craton II.

### Culture
Tabaxi culture is constantly collecting and shifting. They believe religion is a living, changing thing and staying stagnant is the mark of a failing society. Many leave their home villages and campaign around Craton II, seeking information and understanding while spreading devotion to Tezcatlipoca on the side. The tabaxi have several cities which are quite large, and import food, cloth, ore, and other resources from other territories. They have a pact of neutrality with humans, and the two groups share intangible resources as well, such as knowledge and technology.

Most groups have ritual freeze-branding (as tattoos wouldn’t show up under their fur). The white color is considered a mark of suffering and sacrifice. Tabaxi with disorders causing the fur to become white or be born white are given special treatment and are often trained to become religious figures from a young age, but are also subject to suspicion as they are thought to be more easily corrupted to the side of Quetzalcoatl. You can read more about these brandings and their effects in the Religions of Craton II section.

### Tabaxi Traits
Your tabaxi character has a variety of traits that they share with all other tabaxi.

***Ability Score Increase.*** Your Dexterity increases by 2, and your Charisma increases by 1.

***Age.*** Tabaxi mature and age at the same rate as regular humans.

***Alignment.*** Tabaxi society is very chaotic, with independence, knowledge and freedom highly valued. They also rarely commit acts that could be considered evil by Tezcatlipoca, as their blessing would be revoked.

***Size.*** Tabaxi are slightly shorter and bulkier than humans, on average. Your size is Medium.

***Speed.*** Your base walking speed is 9 meters (30 feet).

***Darkvision.*** Tezcatlipoca gifted your kind with the senses of the jaguar. You can see in dim light within 18 meters (60 feet) of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

***Feline Agility.*** Your reflexes and agility allow you to move with a burst of speed. When you move on your turn in combat, you can double your speed until the end of the turn. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you spend at least one turn standing still.

***Jaguar Claws.*** Because of your claws, you have a climbing speed of 20 feet. In addition, your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

***Tezcatlipoca’s Gift.*** You have proficiency in Wisdom (Perception) and Dexterity (Stealth).

***Languages.*** You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.

### Notes for Adventurers
The tabaxi are a very free people, wandering across Craton II in search of knowledge and secrets. Many tabaxi have intense fixations on a very narrow facet or area of study, such as butterflies of the Acatlan empire or every piece of jewelry posessed by ancient historical figures. Think about one your character might have. Also keep in mind that most tabaxi resent Coatzitzintin, so if there are Coatzitzintin in your party, think about how you’ll work through it while still keeping a functional party.

 ##### Variant: Nahual
The Nahual are tabaxi who are born albino. They have nearly invisible blonde markings on white fur, pink skin, and dazzling blue or lavender eyes with reddish pupils. They are almost totally blind and often raised in temples as future clerics.

***Light Sensitivity.*** Instead of darkvision, you have severe light sensitivity which renders you totally blind in sunlight, but able to see well enough to read extra large type in very dim light, and able to make out shapes in total darkness. Overexposure to sunlight will render you entirely blind, however, so take caution.

***Divine Sight.*** You can sense the life force of everything around you, and use this to orient yourself. You can sense living beings, undead beings, live plants, raw stone, fresh earth, community centers, and items with profound sentimental or religious value within 6 meters (20 feet). You cannot sense worked stone, metal, cut wood, dead beings, or anything manufactured.

***Tezcatlipoca’s Chosen Child.*** You know the cantrip *guidance*, and can cast it at will. At 3rd level, you are gifted with the spell *earth tremor*, which you can cast once per day. Additionally, at 5th level, you are gifted with *darkness*, which you can cast once per short rest. Use Charisma as your spellcasting modifier for these spells.
